Chapter 25: Best Interests
After a short nap, Silvy starts to move again some in the bed. "Juarez?" She says silently.
"Mmm?" He asks and looks at her, coming from his thoughts.
She blinks a little and looks around. "We're still not home?"
"No…" He says and shakes his head. "Your head still is in need of supervision of the doctors." He says that word with a slight shiver.
She nods a little silently. Juarez nods and pets her.
"What time is it?" She then asks silently.
Juarez takes out his phone and checks. "Ehm...Elevenish?" He says.
"Since when are elves time?" She asks silently.
"Not elves, eleven. Once. Undici." He says.
"Oh..." She says silently. "Then is it morning or evening?"
"Night time." He yawns.
"Oh..." She silently repeats herself again.
He nods and pets her. "So… You should probably go back to sleep…"
"Okay..." She says silently and tries to go to sleep. Juarez nods and watches her with a small smile. Silvy smiles a bit in her sleep.
Juarez takes out his diary and starts writing. 'So, I got arrested yesterday by the commander of the Lithuanian base. Silvy says her name is Grace Gray. The plane she was taking us back in crashed. It had double engine failure and was actually exciting and fun to land. Silvy, though, got a concussion from it which took much of the fun out of it. I'm worried about her. I know that once she is well and released, I will be going straight to a cell. I am not really looking forward to that, but I know it is for the best.' He looks over at Silvy for a moment with a sigh.
Silvy is silently snoring with her beak in her flippers.
'Bob keeps shoving his gun in my face everytime he comes and visits Silvy while she is here at the hospital. He genuinely hates me. I don't understand what I have ever done to him to deserve such hatred. I know I am a criminal and he hates those, also I am dating his daughter, which I know he could hate me for. But, despite that I still look up to him. Call me crazy, but I still respect him… Mostly. He has lost the majority of my respect from how hardheaded and close minded he is. I still think he should be better than this… I guess I just over romanticised him from Papá's stories. Maybe he is actually better than this on the norm. Maybe it is just because he seems to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Though, I am a hundred percent sure that he hates my guts and wants me dead. I guess that is fine, understandable even.' He finishes writing the entry and puts the little book away.
Silvy is sleeping silently there.
Juarez sighs and pets Silvy gently. She smiles a little and has his flipper in her sleep.
Bob sleeps a bit fitfully on the ground next to Grace the whole night.
Grace wakes up and slowly sits up with a small whimper. "Mmmmpf…"
Bob snores silently on the ground close to her. She looks over at him as she rubs her back. She thinks some pain medication would be wonderful right now. He smiles some in his sleep. Grace tries to stretch a little and pets his chest. He then starts to wake up a little. Grace really sorely and stiffly tries to get up off the floor. Bob watches her and then gets up and helps her up. She smiles some at him and rubs her back some. "Ummm… Something tells me sprained back and sleeping on the floor don't go well together…" She mumbles.
Bob looks at her worriedly and then lifts her up and brings her to the bedroom. Grace holds on to him. He softly sits her down on the bed and then starts massaging her back. She smiles some as he massages her. He softly massages her and softly smiles a little, though he still looks really tired.
"You feeling a little better?" She asks silently as he massages her. Bob nods a little and massages. "That's good…" She says.
Bob nods and yawns a little as he massages.
Grace whimpers a little as Bob massages on a certain place on her back. "Does it hurt?" He asks silently.
"A little…" She says silently.
He nods and hands her the painkillers. She takes a couple. He watches silently and rubs her back with one flipper and his head with the other. She looks at him after a moment. "You okay?"
Bob nods some. "Yeah, just have a small headache." He says.
Grace nods some. "Maybe you should take a painkiller, too…"
He shrugs a little. She shifts some and looks at him. Bob manages a tiny smile and rubs her back. She gives him still a worried look. He looks exhausted.
Grace looks at the pillow in front of her as she thinks. "After today, do I need to go back to my own house with how there is work and you having to tend to Silvia and everything?" She then asks.
Bob shrugs some silently. "You're welcome if you want to stay..." He says silently.
"I don't want to end up being a bother…" She says silently.
"You won't be a bother..." He says softly and looks at her. "You aren't and will never be one..."
Grace looks at him some. "Are you sure?" She says silently. "I'm pretty sure I am usually…"
Bob nods. "I'm sure..." He says slowly.
Grace nods some slowly. "But my car is at the base still either way…"
"I can slide today to the base and get it for you when my shift ends?" He thinks slowly and tiredly.
"I guess…" She says and thinks. "Or carpool tomorrow and I can drive it back myself?"
Bob shakes his head slowly. "You're not allowed yet to drive. Your pain medication is too heavy."
"Oh…" She says.
Bob nods some with a yawn and straightens his feathers. He then waddles for Grace's pain medication and ice pack. Grace waits for him. Bob then waddles back to the room and applies the ice pack. She lays still for him to do so. He applies it and lays the painkillers next to the bed. "Do you need anything else?" He asks.
"I don't know…" She replies and thinks some. Bob nods and waits. "I am kind of hungry…" She then says. He nods and goes downstairs and starts to cook for her. Grace lays there quietly. Bob cooks and then waddles with the food back to the bedroom. He yawns some. She looks at him. "You sure you don't want to go in a little later and sleep more?"
"Don't I have to work?" He asks a bit slowly. "And later on today I have to lock that criminal behind bars anyway..." He yawns.
"I suppose…" She sighs some, not really wanting to be left alone at his house again.
He nods some and kisses her cheek softly.
Grace kisses his cheek back. "Do I have to stay here all day?" She then silently asks.
Bob looks at her. "When your ice pack is warm, you could also go lay on the couch… I'll lay a pillow and sheet for you there." He says.
"Okay..." She says, "But I have to stay here all day alone?"
Bob shrugs some. "If you feel up to waddling all way to your own house go ahead." He says a bit shortly as he takes a little offence at her not wanting to be in his house. He feels as if she doesn't like it.
Grace looks at him. "I meant going with you..." She sighs. "I don't want to be all alone either place..." She adds silently.
Bob yawns some. "I'm not staying that long..." He says. "Just till five and then I
ll be back again. Maybe sooner if they call for me to get Silvy..."
"Fine..."
He nods some and kisses her cheek before half stumbling, half waddling out of the room. He then goes downstairs but misses his footing and ends up falling down the stairs.
Grace hears him and 'quickly' gets up and goes to the stairs. "Are you alright?!"
Bob is silently down the stairs and nods some. "I'm fine..." He says silently. She looks at him worriedly still. He gets up a bit slowly and rubs his left side with an exhausted and depressed look. She looks worriedly at him. He slowly waddles to get the pillow and blanket for Grace and lays them on the couch.
Grace returns to the bed and lays back down. She lays the ice pack on her back again with a sigh. "He said I'm not a bother… That sure as kipper wasn't what it sounded like he thought when we argued. It sounded like I was nothing but a bother…" She murmurs to herself. She then wonders if it is safe to take antidepressants with these painkillers.
"Bye..." Bob then says with a yawn and slides towards the base. Grace sighs as she hears him leave. She then begins on the breakfast he made her.
Bob slides quickly to the base and there starts working with an occasional yawn.
At the hospital, Silvy starts to wake up some slowly.
Juarez watches her with a yawn. He hadn't slept much at all that night before. He had spent most of it watching her sleep.
She silently props herself up some and rubs her eyes. "Hey..." She says silently.
"Hi..." He smiles a little at her.
She smiles at him and then bends over to kiss his cheek. She feels quite a lot better, though her head still pounds a little bit. He kisses her cheek back and then yawns again.
"You look tired…" She says silently.
Juarez shrugs a little. "Not much…" He says, though yawns again. "Maybe just a little…"
She nods some and rubs his flipper. Juarez smiles a little bit at her. She smiles a little. "Can we go home now?"
"I'm not sure if you are allowed to go home yet or not…" He says softly, thinking anxiously about how after this he will be going to his cell where he will most likely spend the rest of his life. It is not a pleasant thought.
She nods some silently again. "Where will we live next?"
Juarez looks at her for a moment as he feels a pang in his heart. "Silvy…" He says silently. "I'll be in my cell again… You'll be going home…"
"B-but..." Silvy says slowly with tears in her eyes.
"I… Señorita… It just will be better in the long run this way…" He sighs silently. "I wish there was another way, but if we just run off again, we won't ever have any paz*..."
She looks at him and then starts sobbing.
Juarez sighs and hugs her. "I'm sorry…" He says silently. She sobs and hug him back. He hugs her closely and sniffs a little. 'And this… This is why I should have not… I should never have let my heart wander about a life with anyone… I knew better...' She sobs and hugs him. He hugs her and softly kisses her cheek.
She smiles a little and sniffs. "I don't want to live without you..." She says silently.
"I know… I don't want to live without you either… But… You should…" He says silently and sniffs. "M-maybe you could come and visit on occasion?"
She nods some silently with a sniff.
He looks at her and softly wipes at her tears. "And… Maybe it would be best if you started looking around for another guy… I mean… I have three life sentences… I'm never going to be released…" He says silently. "You would do so much better if you just move on from me…"
"But I don't want to!" She starts to sob again.
Juarez nods and holds her to his chest. "I know…"
She sobs close to him.
A doctor waddles into the room.
Silvy is still sobbing to Juarez's chest.
"Miss. Garrison?" The doctor says, waddling over. She sobs still. The doctor comes over and taps her shoulder. She looks at him and sobs. "Miss. Garrison, I am running one final test to make sure you are ready to be released before I call your father to come and get you." Dr. Brad says.
Silvy nods some and tries to dry her eyes.
The doctor nods and watches as Juarez gets out of the bed and sits in the chair. He then gets the bed and wheels her out gently and slowly to the CT scan room.
She silently sniffs and tries to look as long as possible at Juarez.
Dr. Brad wheels her in. "Okay, miss, please be as still as possible as the last times." He says and hands her off to the radiologist.
She nods and is still.
The radiologist puts her into the machine and begins the test.
She is still and the test runs. The doctors look over the screen at her brain. She silently lays there. The test still runs. She is still. Soon, the test finally finishes and Dr. Brad comes and gets her from the CT scanner. She silently watches him.
"The swelling has gone down enough that it is safe for you to be released." He says. "I will take you back to your room and then call your father."
Silvy nods. "And then? Am I okay to go do stuff?" She asks silently.
"I would like for you then to rest at home still." He says as he rolls her. "You are not okay enough to be jumping and running about. Your brain still needs time to heal, but you are now okay enough to finish healing at home."
"Okay… But I can go out of my bed, right?" She asks.
Dr. Brad looks at her. "For very short amounts of time, I suppose… But you should try to be laying down as much as possible for the next few days."
"Okay..." She says with a silent nod. She thinks that she will most likely not do what he says and instead go sit in front of her boyfriend's cell.
The doctor nods. "Good." He says and stops her bed in her room. Juarez silently watches them. She manages a small smile at him and sits up some.
"And what did he say?" He asks silently with a small smile.
"I can go home." She says with a smile.
Juarez smiles at her. "That's great…" He says with faked positivity. He then slowly takes out a pair of flipper cuffs. "I suppose I should put these on then?"
Silvy shrugs. "Depends on when daddy's coming." She smiles some. "The doctor said that he would call him."
"I would guess he wouldn't take much time in coming… I'm pretty sure he is itching to get me in a cell already." He says with a small, unamused chuckle. He then looks at her. "Be a good girl for him though, for me? Or at least try?"
Silvy looks at him a bit confused. "Why would I? He brings harm to us."
"You're his daughter… And he is only trying to be a good father and do things in your best interests… He means well… He just doesn't understand." He says and looks at her. "It's not his fault he hates me."
Silvy shrugs and looks away a bit. "Well, his 'best interest' isn't that good now, is it?" She nearly growls.
Juarez chuckles some. "It's better than my madre's thoughts of her "best interest" for me." He says.
She nods some and then lays more back in the bed. "If only my head didn't hurt as much..."
Juarez looks at her softly and strokes her. "I'm sorry it does..."
She nods some and yawns a little.
Bob is working hard at the base, completely ignoring his tired feeling or his small pounding headache. His phone then rings.
"GLC Bob." Bob says as he takes his phone.
"Well, you got a new job quick… It is Dr. Brad anyhow." The doctor says.
"My old position was still open." Bob answers.
Brad shrugs. "Silvia is ready to be released, but bedrest is strongly advised for her." He says. "Also, it would be smart to keep her calm and happy I think."
Bob nods some. "So I should sedate her to keep her in bed?"
"No, but keep her in bed. I would not advise sedating her." He says.
"Alright." He nods. "Any other advices?"
"Not really, I don't suppose I have to tell you to make sure that sense is used when she is to have painkillers and the like?" He says.
"I doubt it." Bob answers with a nod. "Can you get the paperwork done already? Then I'll be there in half an hour to pick her up."
Brad nods. "Sure, and I will tell her that." He says and hangs up.
Bob nods and starts towards the hospital.
Silvy silently watches Juarez.
Brad waddles back into the room. "Your father is on the way." He says, holding a clipboard.
His patient looks up at him. "Okay." She says with a small nod.
"And I need you to fill this out, please." He continues. She nods and takes the clipboard. He gives her a pen. She takes it and rather slowly fills things out. He and Juarez watch her. She silently finishes writing. The doctor nods, takes the clipboard, and waddles out. She then looks at Juarez and leans over to hug him.
Juarez hugs her closely.
Then, Bob waddles in. He immediately moves towards Juarez, gets him in cuffs and forces him to waddle towards his car. Juarez mutely and numbly allows Bob to do this and doesn't give him any trouble. He gives a forlorn goodbye glance at Silvy before just looking at the ground as he is waddled to Bob's car. Bob pushes him in the front seat and locks the car then, before waddling towards the hospital again.
Juarez sighs and sits there, looking at his cuffs. "And so I will never have my dream come true..." He mumbles. "It was better to not have dreamed at all, I think..." He leans into the seat and looks sadly out his window.
Bob then is back by the car with his daughter in his flippers and lays her softly in the car on the back seat. "Honey, I'm first going to have that criminal locked away and then I bring you right home, okay?" He says softly with a smile. She just shrugs a little.
Juarez glances momentarily at them and then returns to sadly watching out his window.
Bob then silently starts driving towards the base. On the radio is some classical music.
Juarez listens a little to the song. "Tchaikovsky?" He silently asks.
Bob nods some. Juarez nods a little and returns to looking out his window. He sighs a little and feels as though he is watching his freedom and life flee back away from the car.
Silvy is silently on the back seat, trying not to throw up as Bob stops the car in front of the base.
The criminal looks at the base, which once again looks dark and foreboding to him. He then glances back at Silvy and sighs some before looking away. He can't bring himself to say goodbye.
Silvy feels sick, but still tries to get up and out of the car. She manages so and waddles to a couple of flowers.
Bob gets out of the car.
Juarez silently sits there, not really wanting to get out and meet his fate. Bob helps him out and glances at his daughter and the flowers. She then finishes picking them and waddles to Juarez. "For you..." She says silently.
Juarez gets them softly in one of his cuffed flippers with an invisible, tiny smile. "Be well, Señorita..." He then says, silently, though he tries to make it not quite so.
She nods some and kisses his cheek. "See you soon..." She says silently before Bob pushes Juarez towards the base.
Juarez looks at the flowers as he is pushed into the base. "I'm sorry..." He then silently says.
Silvy silently lays back down in the car and cries.
The criminal glances at Bob to see if he heard him.
Bob looks straight ahead as he pushes the criminal into the base. "I'm sorry..." The criminal repeats monotoned. He knows it won't do any good, but he just wants it to be known that he truly is.
"Yeah, yeah." Bob mutters. "That's what they all say."
"I know… Though I really mean it..." Juarez silently says and blinks away some tears.
Bob shrugs and pushes him in the cell. He locks the door and waddles away. The young criminal watches him go with tear filled eyes and lays down mutely on the bed. He looks at the flowers. He sniffs them some and then sneezes.
Bob brings Silvy home kind of quickly and carries her inside and to her bed. There he softly lays her down and kisses her cheek.
Grace hears them come in and slowly gets up from the bed.
Bob softly watches Silvy for a little as she is sniffing in her bed.
Grace waddles into Silvy's bedroom.
Bob softly strokes his daughter's back and watches her. He is glad the criminal is dealt away with.
"How is she?" Grace asks curiously.
Bob looks at Grace. "She seems to do better. She is kind of on bedrest, though." He says.
Grace nods and looks softly at her.
Silvy silently cries with her head in the pillow as her father rubs her back.
"Is she all upset over her criminal?" She asks.
Bob nods. "She is." Her father says, though he himself doesn't seem sad at all about it.
Grace looks at him. "Wouldn't hurt if you showed a little sympathy for her though...breakups aren't easy..."
"It is a criminal. I told her from the start that it wouldn't work out." Bob says.
"You took a while to get over Risette..." She says with a look. "I don't see much difference."
He snaps at that and turns around. "That is something very, very different." He growls and then slides out.
Grace watches him go. "I didnt mean to upset him… But..." She sighs and pets Silvy.
Silvy sobs with her head in the pillow. The commander pets her. "I want my Juarez..." Silvy sobs silently.
Grace nods some. "I know you do..." She says softly.
She cries more. "I don't want to live without him!"
"But, you need to." She pets her. "I doubt he would want you killing yourself over him. I'm sure he finds it better comfort that you are alive and well..."
She shrugs some and sobs. Grace softly pets the girl's back and wonders how Bob is now.
Silvy sniffs and then silently falls asleep.
Grace gets up and waddles slowly to see if she can find Bob.
He is silently sobbing in his garden with his head in his flippers.
"Bob?" Grace asks silently as she sees him.
He silently turns his back to her as he still sobs. She looks at him a bit sadly. "I-I didn't mean what I said earlier… I didn't mean to upset you… I'm sorry..." She says silently. He shrugs some and still looks away with a sniff. She looks at him and then quietly waddles back inside. She decides that it probably would be best if she just got her things and left before she messed anything else up.
Bob silently cries outside.
Grace gets her bag, her meds, and her keys quietly, feeling almost empty. "I really don't see why Bob wants me to be here… All I ever do is make things worse..." She says silently and wipes her eyes with the back of her flipper.
Bob silently dries his eyes outside with the back of his flipper and waddles a bit slowly back inside.
Grace slowly comes back down the stairs and doesn't notice Bob. He looks at her. "H-honey?" He says silently with a shiver in his voice as he sees her with her bag and keys.
"Hmm?" She says and looks at him sadly and stops for a moment.
Bob silently looks at the floor and fiddles a bit with a feather on his flipper. "I'm sorry if I made you mad..." He says silently, looking like a chick about to be put in time out.
Grace looks at him. "I'm not mad..." She says silently. "I just thought… Maybe it would be better if I left before I mess things up between us again… I'm sorry..." She looks at the floor. "It was wrong of me to bring up about what I did..."
"Don't leave, ple-please..." Bob says silently with a crack in his voice.
"Are you sure?" She asks silently.
He nods silently. She then nods some and puts her stuff back down and hugs him. He softly hugs her back. She hugs him and sniffs some. "I really can't see why you want me here..." She sniffs really silently. "Because I love you?" He says silently.
"I don't see why..." She sniffs and hugs him. "You should hate me..."
"But I don't..." He says and hugs her.
Grace nods with a sniff and hugs him. "You should..."
"But I won't..."
"How do you know?" She sniffs. "I'm sure one of these days I'll cross that line somehow and you will..."
"Because I love you..." He says tiredly and in a slight monotone voice as he hugs her.
Grace hugs him. "I love you, too..."
He still silently hugs her. She softly releases him after a little longer. He silently looks exhaustedly at the floor. She looks at him silently for a moment. "Bedtime, I guess?"
Bob shrugs some silently.
Grace looks at him. "Or is there anything else you want to do?"
He silently shakes his head. "You need to lay down..."
"Okay..." She says. "Maybe we could watch a movie?"
Bob nods some. "If you want to."
"I'd be fine with that." She smiles at him some. He smiles a little back and waddles with her inside. She waddles to the living room slowly. He silently looks at the DVDs he has and then puts an action movie in the player. Grace watches him and waits for him to get on the couch first. Bob sits on the couch next to her with a pale and tired expression. She lays down with her head on his lap. He silently strokes her and watches the movie. She watches the movie as well. Bob watches the movie before starting to sob.
Grace looks at him worriedly. "Honey?"
Bob sniffs and looks at her. "Yeah?"
"What's wrong?" She asks softly.
"Sad movie!" Bob sniffs and points at the screen.
Grace shakes her head. "You don't usually cry at the sad parts..."
Bob gets his head more in his flippers and sobs. From her weird position she kind of pets his chest. He sobs still. "Honey, calm down, it wasn't even an important character..." She says softly with a slightly weird look. He sobs still. "But now he is dead!"
Grace softly pets him. "He's not really dead, you know… Just the movie character. The actor should still be perfectly fine..." She says softly.
Bob sobs. "But now he never comes back!"
"It's only a movie, honey, shhh, calm down." She says. "It wasn't meant to be sad..."
"But it is!"
"Not really… It actually was kind of funny..." She sighs some and sits up and hugs him.
He silently sobs in her feathers. She softly rubs his back and wonders if he doesn't just need to go on to bed, even though it is still daytime.
He hugs her and sobs. "Everybody always dies or leaves me or goes crazy and leaves me and I end up all alone!" He sobs.
Grace softly hugs him. "I won't leave you unless you want me to…" She says softly.
He sobs and gets more in her feathers. Grace hugs him closely and strokes his back. He sniffs and hugs her. She softly hums a little as she rubs his back. He silently hugs her and falls asleep in her feathers. His girlfriend tries to softly lay him down on the couch.
He silently gets her flippers as he snores a little on the couch. Grace is awkwardly kind of laying on him now. She thinks this is actually pretty comfortable. He smiles and snores. She smiles and lays there wondering if she should get up. She decides that he probably wouldn't mind and lets herself go to sleep.
After a little while, Silvy wakes up sniffing in her bedroom. She silently sits up a little and looks around. "Jua-Jua?" Juarez is not there as he is laying silently and sadly in his cell at the base. She tries to look around some more, but fails to see Juarez. She turns over and silently goes back to sleep.
Meanwhile in his cell, Juarez takes out his cell phone with a sigh. "Now… How stupid was I to not have gotten her number?" He murmurs. "We could be texting now or something… But no…"
Guard Hank looks through the bars at Juarez. "What do you have there?"
"A rubix cube…" He lies and quickly switches objects. "Why? You want to try it?"
The guard looks some at him. "Nah, I'll pass."
"Sure." Juarez shrugs and solves Silvy's puzzle on it. He then sighs some and looks at the guard. "So… What's your nombre, guardy?" He asks.
"Hank." The guard growls back.
Juarez smirks a little. "Hank?" He tries to think of what fun he can have with the guard, but has trouble doing so as he can only think about Silvy. "Would you happen to know the number of a Miss. Silvia Garrison?" He then asks. "I don't have my phone, I was just wondering."
The guard seems to smirk a little. "Of that bitch? Huh. I guess half the base has her number… And her 'virginity' to call it that."
Juarez shifts a bit. "Well… What's her number then?" He asks and tries to push away the rest of what the guard says. "Or are you part of the half that hasn't been lucky enough to be with her?" He then adds as he wasn't able to press the statement away.
"Oh dear, lucky? You've got to hear Joris about her. No sir, the ones who weren't done by her are the luckiest men to walk around here." He smirks.
"You are mistaken." The criminal says. "She is the most wonderful woman I've ever met…"
"Just you wait. She is going to turn around and desert you. It's all an act with that woman. Always." The guard states.
"I know." Juarez nods. "She did do that to me. It hurt. A lot...But she came back…" He smiles.
Hank just grins some. "She'll leave you. Take my word, she will."
Juarez shrugs a little. "She may…" He says silently. "And I almost hope she does… I mean, since I have three life sentences… Wouldn't want her to try to wait up for me to be released…"
Hank snorts some.
"And you're just jealous." He glances at the guard.
"Jealous?! Of you and that bitch? Huh! Never." The guard snorts.
Juarez chuckles some. "Yes, you are. That's why you're putting it down so much and trying to discourage me."
"Choke on your spit." The guard growls and turns away.
"No thanks." He says. "Though, I was serious of that number though…"
"How am I supposed to know that?!" Hank growls.
The prisoner in the cell next to Juarez ticks some on the wall.
Juarez hears the sounds and ticks on his wall back.
"Psst." The prisoner says. "You need Silvia?"
"Yeah… I mean, I've got her padre's numero, but I don't really want to text him… You know?" He chuckles to the prisoner. "I mean… If I had a phone with me…."
The guy shrugs some. "Why would you need a number if you don't have a phone?"
"Maybe I want to save it for later when I have a phone?" Juarez shrugs. "Or pass it to an amigo?"
"Alright." The prisoner shrugs and hands him a paper with a number.
Juarez gets the scrap of paper with a smile. "Thanks." He says and slips it into his feathers to put into his phone and use a little later.
"No problemo, Mateo." The prisoner chuckles.
Juarez makes a small face and looks at the wall. "Who exactly is on the other side of this anyway?" He asks curiously, wondering how the other prisoner knows his name.
The guy chuckles and doesn't answer.
"Come on... A hint?" He requests. "I obviously must know you from somewhere if you know mi nombre…"
The guy chuckles again and is silent.
Juarez sighs some. "You must be someone from the Stanton Gang, verdad?" He says and lays on his back on the bed. "You're not Henry, Luke, or Roberto, that's for sure…" He says. "You can't be Sebastiano or Juliet since they are dead…"
The guy chuckles and has a clicking sound of a gun in his cell.
Juarez hears the gun and sits up some as he thinks through all the penguins he knows. "Ehm…"
The guy gets his gun away and leans back more with a sigh.
"Oh! Janno maybe?" He says, face-flippering and laying back down.
The prisoner snorts some.
"So yes, Janno?" Juarez asks.
"Yes, Mateo." Janno answers. "Now please shut up and go text your girlfriend."
Juarez grins some and sneaks his phone out and puts her number in the phone. 'Hey.' He texts her.
Silvy silently wakes up and looks at her phone. 'Who's this?' She texts back. The light of the phone screen is hurting her head a bit.
'Juarez.' He texts back. 'But, if this is a bad time maybe we can talk later?'
'Oh.' She texts back and tries to blink a bit to ease her headache. 'No, it's fine.'
Juarez nods some with a smile. 'Okay, and if the brightness hurts your head, you may think about dimming your phone screen some.'
'Okay.' She texts back and tries to dim the screen.
'So, how are you?' He asks with a smile.
'My head hurts.' She replies. 'How are you?'
'Awh.' He texts. 'I'm lonely, but fine I guess. By the way, do you know a guy named Janno?'
'Maybe?' She texts back.
'I was just wondering since he had your number and was able to give it to me...' Juarez sighs. 'After the guard talked about how half the base should have your number but wouldn't give me it...'
'When are you getting out of prison?' She sends back.
'After I have been here long enough to have died three times, I guess.' He texts and sighs again.
'So… We'll only be able to be together when we're dead?' She texts back.
'Well, that's one gruesome way of putting it.' He texts. 'But, it is why I tried to convince you that maybe you should see other penguins...'
'It is the truth, isn't it?' She texts. 'I don't want others. I want you.'
'It is the truth I think, yes... But that does not mean that you kill yourself.' Juarez frowns.
'I want you.' She repeats.
'I want you, too, but I want you to live even more.' He texts.
'I don't want to live without you.' She texts.
'But, I don't want you to die. You're too perfect and beautiful and mean too much to too many penguins for you to die because of me.' He sniffs a little.
'Then get free.' She texts back.
Juarez looks at his phone. 'But… How? And if I did, and you ran off with me, then we would both be wanted criminals on the run. You wouldn't be able to see your friends or family again… I can't take you from that...'
'I don't care about them. I want you.' She texts.
Juarez sighs. 'Then how do you suppose I break out, eh? This cell doesn't even have a visible lock. It's some new thing that I'm actually not sure how to break out of yet.'
Silvy silently leans over to throw up some. 'It's magnetic, right?'
Juarez gets up silently and inspects his cell. 'I guess?'
'Be smart and figure something out with that then.' She texts back as she feels sick and dizzy.
Juarez sighs. 'I doubt I'll be able to come up with something tonight… I might have to tunnel out.'
'I feel sick.' She texts back.
Juarez worriedly reads her text. 'Maybe you should lay down and sleep then?'
'Okay. Good night. Love you very much.' She texts and lays down.
'Love you, too.' He texts and lays down with a sigh.
'Kiss-kiss.' She sends as a last text before falling asleep. Juarez smiles and sends her the same text. He then looks up at the ceiling with a sad sigh. He knows that it would take a few days to tunnel out and he doubt that it would work also. He bets it is sat on solid concrete.
