I can't wait to show you guys what I have in store for the family, good and bad... obviously. But you guys have to stick around to find out. Hehe. Alright, let's get started! Emma's Pov
5 Months later
Rick, Carl, T-Dog and Daryl storm into the house, clearing it out for us. I stand watch with Ashley, Maggie and Glenn. Melanie, Carol and Hershel are looking after Lori. She is now 9 months pregnant, the baby is due any day now... and we still haven't found a place.
We haven't got much food left either, we haven't eat much. Mostly from tin cans and sometimes Daryl and Jamie would go hunting but we haven't had time recently. Due to the herd that has been following us 5 months before, just after Christmas. We have had some good moments but they always have found us. Especially when we lost Sophia, that hit us all hard.
After waiting for a while, the door opens and Rick waves us over. We quickly grab our stuff and walk in. We all sit in the living room in silence, Daryl is plucking an owl while T is taking watch.
I watch Carl put a can down and I read the label, dog food. We all watch him open the can, what have we come to that we are willing to let a child eat dog food to keep his strength up? This is literally our life of survival.
Rick walks past us and picks up the van, he studies it with a frown and throws it into the fireplace with a clang. I jump at the noise. T pists us and we know that's our queue.
We all hop in the vehicles and drive off, the walkers being left in the dust. Can't we catch a break?
We park up in the middle of the road, me and Daryl hop off the bike and meet at a vehicle where Maggie, T-Dog, Glenn, Hershel and Ashley are. Maggie lays a map on the hood of the car. Rick comes up to us after telling Beth and Carl to go on point.
"We've got no place left to go." T sighs frustratedly.
Maggie points to the map. "When this herd meets up with this one we'll be cut off, we'll never make it south."
"What do you say, it's about 150 head?" Daryl questions Glenn but he shrugs.
"That was last week, it could be twice that now." Glenn points out and I nod in agreement.
"He's right." I agree with Glenn's statement.
"This river could've delayed them. If we move fast, we might have a shot to tear right through this." Hershel explains.
"Yeah, but if this group joins with that one, they could spill out this way." T tells us.
"So we're blocked." Maggie utters.
"Yeah." I mutter slightly defeated.
"Only thing to do is double back at 27th, and swing around towards Greenville." Rick tells us.
"We picked through that already, it's like we've spent all winter going in circles." T reminds us.
"Yeah, I know. I know. At Newnan we'll push west. Haven't been through the area. We can't keep going house to house." Rick informs us and looks over to Lori, we all look there and back to to the map. Rick is right, we need a place. "We need to find some place to hold up for a few weeks."
"Alright. Is it cool if we get to the creek before we head out? It won't take long. We gotta fill up on water, we can boil it later." T asks Rick and he nods.
"Knock yourself out." Rick utters and everyone walks away except me, Hershel and Rick.
"She can't take much more of this moving about." Hershel tells him.
"Well, what else can we do, let her give birth on the run?" Rick says frustratedly.
Hershel puts a hand on his shoulder. "You see a way around that?" Before Rick could reply to him he walks away. Daryl comes up to us, taking the old man's place.
"Hey, while the others wash their panties, let's go hunt. That owl didn't exactly hit the spot." Daryl admits and I nod.
Rick looks to me. "I'll hold the fort here, you go with 'im." I say him and both of them walk off.
"Where are they going?" Jamie asks suddenly.
"Huntin'." I answer him and I look at Carl. "Take watch while they're getting water." I order him and he quickly goes with Ashley and T-Dog to the stream.
When the three return that is when rustling is heard. I unsheathe my machete but Rick and Daryl show up with grins.
"What're you guys smilin' about?" I ask them suspiciously, no one has really smiled since Christmas.
"We found a place." Rick announces and we all grab our things and follow them.
Once we see an opening through the trees I see where they think of staying. A prison. A smile plasters my face, this is gonna be good for us, we need this.
We all get to the fence and Rick cuts it open, we surround him, watching his back for any walkers.
"Watch the backside!" Rick orders us.
"Got it." Lori calls back. Maggie and Glenn kill a nearby walker.
We all go through the make shift opening.
"Hurry! Hurry!" Rick encourages T-Dog, who is the last one to cross through.
Glenn and Daryl close the wire up, just as they finish a walker pounces the fence from the outside, Glenn jumps back slightly. Walkers from inside the prison field pounce. We quickly run to a gate, where it is fenced off. The walkers trapped. We can take this place.
Rick looks out and then back to us. "It's perfect. If we can shut that gate, prevent more from filling the yard, we can pick off these walkers. We'll take the field by tonight." Rick announces to us and I nod in agreement.
"So how do we shut the gate?" Hershel questions him but before he can answer Glenn speaks up.
"I'll do it. You guys cover me." Glenn pitches in.
"No, it's a suicide run." Maggie rejects the offer.
"I'm the fastest." Glenn argues back.
"No. You, Maggie, Beth, T-Dog, Jamie and Ashley draw as many as you can over there." He tells them, pointing to an area. "Pop them through the fence. Daryl, Emma, go back to the other tower. Carol, you've become a pretty good shot, take your time, we don't have a lot of ammo to waste. Hershel, you, Melanie and Carl, take this tower."
"Alright." Carl agrees with him and we all get in our positions.
Glenn, T-Dog, Maggie, Beth, Jamie and Ashley draw the walkers to them by shouting and banging on the fence, they kill them by stabbing through the fence.
I see Rick run out into the field, he kills a couple of walkers and I cover him with the others who are in the watch towers. Carol almost shoots Rick by mistake.
"Sorry." Carol calls out and reloads, I have to hold in a snort. I notice the kickback hit my shoulder and I hiss slightly but decide to ignore it, no time to moan now.
The walkers are now drawn to Rick but he manages to shut the gate. He quickly goes into the tower and closes the door.
"He did it!" Carol breathes out shocked.
"Light it up!" Daryl calls out to everyone and we shoot the remaining walkers in the field.
Gunshots keep going off and the last walker falls to the floor. Signalling our victory. Yes! Finally things are turning good for us.
We all meet up in the yard.
"Fantastic!" Carol squeals out like a child.
"Nice shootng." Daryl praises everyone.
"Hell yeah." I agree with him, holding his hand.
"Yeah. You ok?" Carol asks Lori and she nods.
"I haven't felt this good in weeks." She tells her and Carol walks further in the yard. Daryl grabs Lori's arm and gives it an assuring squeeze. I squeeze her arm and smile brightly at her, she returns the smile.
"Oh! Oh, oh! We haven't had this much space since we left the farm!" Carol exclaims laughing.
Glenn puts down a walker who somehow managed to survive the shootout. T laughs too.
"Woooo!" T cheers and I laugh.
Once we get a fire started and food cooked, I take an extra plate with me to give to Daryl, who is currently on watch on top of the bus.
"Ya mind?" I ask him, holding the plates up and he shakes his head. He quickly helps me up, I give him a plate.
"That's not much. But if I don't bring ya somethin', you won't eat at all." I point out to him.
"Guess little Shane over there's got quite the appetite." Daryl mutters and I burst out laughing.
"Don't be mean. Even though it's true. Rick is a good leader. Shane would have been a shit leader." I tell him and he nods. I threw my last piece of meat in my mouth. I set my empty plate down and wince because my shoulder is still hurting from the kick back.
"What's wrong?" Daryl asks me.
"That damn rifle, the kickback. I'm not used to it. I prefer my glock." I inform him.
"Hold on." Daryl mutters before he massages my shoulder, I hum in pleasure.
"How long has it been? 5 months?" I ask him with a smirk and I could tell he's blushing, even in the night.
"Yeah... Better get back." He mutters, fighting off a smirk. He is trying to change the subject.
"Pretty romantic. How 'bout here?" I joke with him.
He bursts out laughing and I do, We're not gonna do it on a bus. "I'll go down first." He changes the subject. He crouches down when I go behind him.
"Even better." I jest.
"Stop." He scolds me playfully. I laugh at him.
We arrive at the fire.
"Daddy, not that one, please." Maggie tells her father with a look.
Hershel looks ashamed for a moment before it quickly goes, he looks at Beth. "How about uh... parting glass?"
"No one wants to hear." Beth shyly looks down. I notice Carl and Jamie look at her and Maggie and Ashley smiling.
"Why not?" Glenn asks her with a smile.
"Ok." She huffs, knowing she has lost. "Of all the money, e'er I had. I spent it in good company. And all the harm, e'er I've done, alas it was to none but me. And all I've done, for want of wit, to memeory now I can't recall. So fill to m the parting glass, good night and joy be with you all." Maggie joins her. "Oh, all the comrades, that e'er I had, were sorry for my going away. And all the sweethearts that e'er I had"
I look to see Rick joins us and Carl gives him some food, he gives some to Lori who takes some reluctantly. I hold Daryl's hand and he squeezes it.
"Would wish me one more day to stay. But since it falls unto my lot, that I should rise and you should not. I'll gently rise and I'll softly call, good night and joy be with you all. Good night and joy be with you all." The pair finish.
"Beautiful." Hershel praises his two daughters, Ashley doesn't sing.
"Why didn't you sing?" Glenn questions Ashley and me, Maggie and Beth burst out laughing.
"Shut up." She scolds us. "If I sang, I would attract all the walkers. Plus, I'm more of a dancer." She answers.
"That's true. I think we would all have bleedin' ears." I add and everyone laughs. Ashley pokes her tongue out and I return it, making the others laugh harder.
"Better all turn in. I'll take watch over there, we've got a big day tomorrow." Rick announces and we all look to him in confusion.
"What do you mean?" Glenn questions him.
Rick sighs. "Look, I know we're all exhausted. This was a great win. But we gotta push just a little bit more. Most of the walkers are dressed as guards or prisoners, looks like this place fell pretty early. Could mean the supplies may be intact. They have an infirmary, a commissary."
"An armory?" Daryl interrupts him.
"That would be outside the prison itself, but not too far away. Warden's office would have info on the location. Weapons, food, medicine, this place could be a gold mine!" Rick emphasises.
"We're dangerously low on ammo. We'll run out before we make a dent." Hershel informs him.
"That's why we gotta go in there. Hand to hand. After all we've been through, we can handle it, I know it. These assholes don't stand a chance." Rick expresses and we all nod in agreement.
Rick walks off and surprisingly Lori follows him. I guess she is now trying to put things right in their marriage. Carl knows about her relationship with Shane and he doesn't talk to his mom much now, he has either been hanging around his father; Jamie or the rest of us.
I guess tomorrow we will finally have a home. Even it is a prison.
Well, we should leave it there, I know it's a short chapter but I'll make it up to you guys, I promise! Anyways, I'm glad you guys like the pairing of Emma and Daryl, I thought Daryl needs someone when I watched the show and that's how my character was created.
