*Sighs* "Sadie, why? You just had to, didn't you? We are going to be in a lot of trouble thanks to you.
It all happened so fast. Percy, Annabeth and I heard footsteps and what sounded like strangled yelling. Naturally, we assumed that Sadie was under attack and yes, I know you don't need me to save you , sis but instincts are instincts and those big brother instincts don't turn off. We saw Sadie standing there looking confused but relieved to see us and then she lowered her staff. To her side, the wall just exploded with a harsh golden light. Out of it tumbled what I least expected to see, more teenagers; two blonde boys, two girls with dark hair, and our honored guest, Queen Hetepheres 2. They fell out of the hole in the wall like they had been trapped there. From experience, I knew they had opened a portal linked to this temple. Since only Egyptians can open portals, I must assume they hitched a ride with her highness.
The kids just kinda jumbled about until they realized Sadie was under the wall and then they clamored around to dig her out. Sadie, her ever grateful self, slugged one of the boys in the face with a brick as a way of saying thanks. Disclaimer: I am not responsible for my sister and she can be well, irrational and odd at times. It's best to give her a wide berth.
The boy she slugged went down pretty quick against the ground and the other winced heavily in sympathy like he knew what it felt like to kiss a brick. The boy Sadie hit popped back up like a punching bag. He looked pretty upset so I once again had to jump in to save Sadie's sorry hide.
He reared back to punch her and I jumped in between them, screaming. "Wait!"
"Too Late. The boy socked me straight into the right side of my head as Sadie lurched and swung, hitting her fist into my left. This was going to be a rotten day, little did I know just how rotten. Thanks, sis. I owe you one."
I stumbled backwards from the blows and landed my rump on the remnants of the brick wall. "Ouch!" I yelled in a very manly voice. …"Ok, it was very unmanly. I sounded like a wounded four year old."
Sadie ignored my wails and went back to the boy who had hit her. She jumped at him and he side jumped to move out of her way as she landed flat just behind his new position. He smirked when she landed on the rumble with a proud "umpf!"
He turned his gray eyes towards me for a moment and then back towards my sister. I tensed as he moved back in Sadie's direction. "Sadie can be a butt but nobody messes with my sister. Not ever. "
The boy went towards her and I jumped to my feet, he got to her about the time I jumped on his back and knocked him down. He came crashing down the same time that Annabeth yelled. "Stop!"
I admit it, we all froze. Annabeth I have learned is a lot like my girlfriend, Zia. You don't mess with Zia, she can be scary when she wants to be. Annabeth is like that too, Percy once told me. We all looked up at her from our various stages of combat. She sighed. "Guys, stop fighting, you are all here to work together. " She looked around the room to meet each of our eyes. " Everyone here is needed. The fighting is a misunderstanding now shake hands and act like heroes you are."
"I restrained the dork part of myself that screamed at her that Sadie and I were magicians, not demigods. We were not called heroes."
Sadie, the boy and myself stood up somewhat embarrassed by ourselves. I looked at the boy. "I'm sorry for my actions, I thought you were going to hurt my sister..I'm Carter Kane." I offered him my hand.
He looked at it for a moment like it was a poisonous snake before he shook it. "I was going to." He shrugged. " Magnus Chase. My fault, I suppose. I did partially drop a wall on her, though not on purpose." I nodded slowly before glaring at Sadie. She rolled her eyes and extended her hand. "I'm Sadie Kane." She grumbled. "And I'm sorry."
We all looked back at Annabeth as if waiting for her approval to which she nodded. "Good, now that that is settled, lets talk. We have a lot to catch up on and not much time left."
We sat for what felt like hours and I sweat my mind was blown. Percy and Annabeth went first, telling us the truth about their gods, camp half-blood and their adventures leading up to the wars with both titans and giants. They ended their discussion after their trip to Tartarus and the Argo 2. We all looked a bit terrified before proceeding. The other blonde boy, named Jason Grace, I learned and his friend, Reyna Avila Ramirez-Arellano. "Now, that name is a mouthful." .. Jason and Reyna belonged to the Roman camp, Camp Jupiter which was located somewhere near Oakland, California. They trained the children of the Roman Gods and their descendants for millennia. They went on many adventures and played a large part with the destruction of the titans before Jason joined with Percy and Annabeth in sailing the Argo 2 and fighting the giants. Like old times, their people were both friends and enemies. Jason, Reyna and a few others helped the Greeks fight while other Romans distrusted the Greeks and wanted to replay the past in fighting them.
Sadie and I went next in introducing ourselves and our gods and adventures. It sounds kinda crazy now to think that our life really is this… odd. I mentioned our parents' deaths the best I could and explain why Sadie and I had different accents and looks, then I moved on to our adventures with Set and his red pyramid, Ra and his Alzheimers fit that nearly let Apophis win. I finished with the last bit of us finding Apophis's shadow and us blasting his from this world. Sadie chimed on and added the "important" details like her cat knows how to wield knives and that the god Anubis is far more than just a colleague to her. "Seriously, sis. No one here is out to get your boyfriend." When we were through, we waited like a teacher after class to see if anyone had questions. Thankfully due to our time-constraint, they did not. I breathed a sigh of relief and sat down, eager to hear what Magnus and his buddy, Samariah Al Abbas had to say about their world.
I couldn't decide whether I wanted to laugh or cry. The Norse also had a problem with giant snakes and doomsday. I wanted to ask if Jormundgandr and Apophis might be brothers. They sound like brothers. The idea that another huge serpent was out there, threatening the universe with destruction made me want to climb into a hole and hide. I had taken down one big snake, that was enough. I have had enough snakes to last me a lifetime. Then there was the wolf. I couldn't help it. I immediately began whistling "Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?". Sam didn't seem to appreciate that. "My bad."
They told us of their god, Loki, who is Sam's dad breaking free from his bonds. Not Good. They told us they would have to travel to the ancient lands to defeat him and I was reminded of Annabeth and Percy telling me of their travels t the ancient lands of Greece and Rome. The trip nearly killed them all. I tried to understand their plight. To Sadie and I, we went to Egypt all the time. Instead of a long trip, we traveled there in minutes and instead of a dangerous place, the first nome of Egypt was usually the safest place for us. It was home and our home protected us like our ancestors once protected it.
Magnus rubbed his head where Sadie clubbed him. Jason smirked. "Wish I had an icepack for you. Bricks hurt when they kiss."
Magnus smirked back. "Done that a lot have you?"
Jason shrugged. "Couple times. Fight at camp, travels with the argo 2. Some kids even started to make artwork of me dating a brick named Phoebe. It was weird."
"It was funny." Percy piped up.
"Was not."
"Yes, it totally was, bro."
"Bro, please. " Jason continued.
"Boys…." Annabeth interrupted as Sadie snickered.
We sat quiet for a moment, not quite certain how to move forward when her royal highness stirred from her sitting position and began pacing around agitated. She was speaking too quickly to be understood. Jason and Magnus both looked at me expectantly. "What is she saying?"
Sadie answered for me. "She says she can sense that Setne is here."
We felt a cold chill invade the hot Egyptian afternoon, and looked up at the open air ceiling in surprise at the darkening skies. A storm had moved in in a matter of a few minutes.
It had begun.
