Chapter: New Home?
…..
…..
…..
Winter was gone and spring took over.
The air was warming up only a little, but there was a hint of chill licking the air once in a while. It was easier for the group to move frequently now.
The group came upon a two story rickety farmhouse that looked a good place to rest and stay a short time since it was out in the open. Rick, Carl, Daryl and T-Dog went into the house while Glenn and Maggie roamed around the outside to check for walkers.
The rest stayed hidden behind bushes until they heard a soft whistle to signal the coast was clear.
Nakkita held Xavier in one arm, carried the large bed roll in the other and a large backpack on her back that contained Daryl, Xavier and her items. The time spent surviving on their own since the outbreak, she gained a lot more muscle than she used to have due to all the running, lifting and using the compound bow.
No one spoke as they sat in the bland living room, thinking about where they will be heading to next. There was tension amongst the group that had been building up for the last couple of months, especially between Rick and Lori.
Eight months had passed since leaving the farm. In those eight months the group had not found a place to settle down the way they had at the farm. Always consistently moving was their motto for these past eight months.
Nakkita stared at Daryl as he was plucking feathers off an owl that he must had found inside the house and shot it for food. She glanced down at Xavier as he was sleeping in her arms, his legs or a part of his face will twitch as he slept. A small grin came onto her lips at the little one.
She assumed that Xavier was around one and a half years old now. He was walking on his own and babbling nonsense all the time. He said 'mama' first much to Daryl's dismay as Nakkita and he had a bet on who title Xavier will say first. Glenn told Daryl that their son will be a mama's boy, which Daryl gave a solid punch into Glenn's shoulder.
Nakkita was snapped out of her thoughts when she saw Carl come into the living room and sat down, using a can opener to try opening cans of dog food. Nakkita held back a twitch of uneasiness as she did not want to eat that and by the others faces, they did not want to either. Her eyes flickered to Lori who was cradling her round nine month belly. She was getting close to her due date and that made the group tensed as they did not have anywhere safe to deliver the baby.
Rick stood up and took the cans from Carl, staring at them before he whipped them into the fireplace. The group was startle at Rick's actions and jumped in their spots. They stared wide eyes at him as he huffed and sat himself back down, shaking his head. It was clear that he did not want to swoop down to the level of eating dog food.
"Psst."
The group looked up at T-Dog as he sat by the front windows, keeping a lookout. They saw walkers coming toward the home causing them to do their usual routine. Grabbing their things and going out the backdoor where their vehicles were parked.
Nakkita slid into the truck with Rick and Carl, holding Xavier on her lap. Her eyes watched as everyone pulled out ahead of Rick then he followed after them. The ride was silent, except when Xavier woke up to let out a few babbling words.
Carl gave a small grin and he reached out to tickle Xavier in the stomach causing Xavier to squeal and kicked his feet around. It brought a small smile on Nakkita's lips. If Xavier was happy, she was happy.
The truck soon came to a halt causing them to get out on a road that cut through a heavy dense woods. Nakkita walked toward the utility vehicle where Maggie laid out a map on the hood of the vehicle with her father Hershel standing beside her.
"We got no place left to go."
"When this herd meets up with this one, we'll be cut off. We'll never make it south." Maggie pointed down at the map.
The map was marked up with red markers on where they had traveled too, but also, marked up to show the herd of walkers that they came across two months ago. With winter gone, the herds were back to moving steadily, not frozen in their spots or sluggishly moving. Glenn and Maggie were the ones that came across the herd and warned the group about it.
"What would you say? That was about 150 heads?" Daryl asked, staring at Glenn.
The rest of the group came to stand around the car to listen in for new information or the new plan.
"That was last week. It could be twice that by now."
"This river could have delayed them. If we move fast, we might have a shot to tear right through there." Hershel pointed down at the map.
"Yeah, but if this group joins with that one, they could spill out this way." T-Dog rested his right index finger on the mark that signaled the group of walkers in another part of the map.
"So we're blocked." Maggie said.
"Only thing to do is double back at 27 and swing towards Greenville." Rick put in his input.
"Yeah, we picked through that already. It's like we spent the winter going in circles." T-Dog stood up tall and glanced at Rick.
"Yeah, I know. I know. At Newnan we'll push west. Haven't been through there yet. We can't keep going house to house. Need to find someplace to hole up for a few weeks." Rick explained, his eyes staring off toward the truck that held Lori in it.
"All right. It cool if we get to the creek before we head out? Won't take long. We got to fill up on water. We can boil it later." T-Dog told the group as they prepared to move again.
Nakkita set Xavier on the ground to give her arms a break. She smiled as Xavier immediately ran toward Daryl and ran into his legs.
"Oi, little man, careful." Daryl rested his hand on top of Xavier held while his other hand held his crossbow away from the little one.
She walked over to her two boys and smiled as Daryl knelt down to Xavier and smirked when Xavier patted his cheeks. He stood up tall and faced Rick who finished talking to Hershel and was walking in his directions.
Nakkita swooped down and scooped up Xavier causing him to let out a giggle as she swung him around then sat him in her arms. She put a raspberry on his cheeks causing him to laugh more and waved his hands around.
"Hey, while the others wash their panties, let's go hunt. That owl didn't exactly hit the spot." Daryl informed Rick.
She looked up from Xavier to stare at her husband that faced Rick. She knew that Daryl and Rick would go out on these hunting trips to hunt, but also, scavenge the area to see if they could find anything new.
"You be careful now, Dixon."
Daryl slung his crossbow over his right shoulder and stepped up to Xavier and her. He laid his lips against the top of Xavier's head and then he looked at her. She felt his hand rested on her hip, but it slid back to rest on the back of her behind.
"Don't you worry, I will be back." Daryl said and pecked her lips.
With Rick making signal to have them moving, Daryl was pulling away from her, but he did give her a quick pinch on her left butt cheek.
"Asshole." Nakkita tried to kick him, but he snickered and walked away after Rick.
The two vanished into the woods.
"You three are so cute. Even in all this hectic shit, you three are just cute." Maggie came to stand by Nakkita.
"Tell Daryl that one. I think he will enjoy being called cute." Nakkita said jokily causing the two women to laugh as they pictured Daryl's expression and reaction.

The group stood outside a section of a fence outside a prison.
When Rick and Daryl came back from hunting with nothing in hand caused the group to come around them. It was unusual for them, especially Daryl, to come back empty handed. Rick and Daryl informed the group of a prison that was fully fenced in. They wanted to make an attempt to take over the prison from the walkers and that could be their new home.
Any walkers that came close, they were taken care of while Rick cut a hole through the chain linked fence. They had to clean out the prison yard in order to be safe. They got through a section of the fence into the section where the guard towers were and the walkway where guards walked to survey the area.
They got to the entrance way and set their items down.
"If we can shut that gate, prevent more from filling the yard, we can pick off these walkers. We'll take the field by tonight." Rick told them, waving his machete at the walkers that were pushing against the fence and trying to get to them.
"So how do we shut the gate?" Hershel asked.
"I'll do it. You guys cover me." Glenn offered.
"No. It's a suicide run." Maggie shook her head.
"I'm the fastest."
"No, you, Maggie, and Beth draw as many as you can over there. Pop 'em through the fence. Daryl and Nakkita, go back to the other tower."
Once Rick said that, the Dixon couple jogged off in the direction of the tower that they passed when they came through the fence. The two got up into the tower, finding no walkers present and set up.
"Okay, honey, you sit right here." Nakkita set Xavier down in front of her and gave him one of his toys causing him to be distracted by it.
Nakkita set up an arrow into her high-tech compound bow and drew the string back until it was taut. Her head turned a little to stare at Daryl as he stood on the other corner of the balcony. He glanced at her and they gave a small nod to each other.
"There goes Rick." Nakkita pointed.
The Dixon couple aimed and released their arrows when they had a walker in their sight. Daryl's bolt got a walker that was coming up to Rick's backside causing Rick to look up in their direction. Nakkita aimed at a walker toward the gate as Rick got closer and she let go. Her arrow went through the lower part of the walker's head and it dropped in front of Rick.
"Good shot." Daryl grunted as he released another arrow and hit a walker near the gate too.
"You too." Nakkita said.
Rick got to the gate where he closed it and locked it shut. Now, he turned around to face walkers coming towards him, but he managed to go into the tower that was beside the gate into the main yard of the prison building.
"He's in." Nakkita said.
"Light it up." Daryl shouted across the field to the others.
Within a couple more minutes, they cleared out the large field of walkers.
"We did it." Nakkita whispered as she lowered her compound bow to stare around at the field.
Her attention turned to Daryl as he walked over and picked up Xavier, holding him close. He wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her against him, resting his forehead against her own. The two stared at one another as they felt this relief sensation come over them at the realization that they might have somewhere safe to stay awhile.
…..
The field was clear and they were staying on the field tonight. Tomorrow, Rick had told the group they will enter the gates to the prison to start clearing it out, slowly, but they will do so.
They set up a fire and cooked what Daryl and Rick hunted. Nakkita walked to the overturned bus that was in front of the gate where Daryl stood watch. Rick was walking the fence to the entrance of the main area of the prison where walkers were roaming.
With Xavier in Carl's arms, Nakkita carried a plate of small portion of meat to the bus. She slid the plate up onto the bus and then pulled herself up, but felt Daryl help her up.
"Here. A small portion, but it will do." Nakkita told her husband.
"I guess little Shane over there has got quite the appetite." Daryl mumbled as he picked up a piece of meat and shoved it into his mouth.
"Daryl." Nakkita mouth dropped a little, but she was trying not to grin. He winked at her and chewed his food.
The two turned to stare at the group that sat around the fire. Nakkita looked up at the night sky and stared at the stars before she looked at the prison. A small grin came onto her lips as she thought about once they clear the area out, they will have somewhere to stay.
"What are you smiling about?"
Nakkita pulled her eyes away from the prison and came to stare at her husband. Since everyone was in a good mood since they cleared out the field, she found it a good moment to mess with her husband.
"Oh, just thinking about how we will get a nice, cozy cell. Maybe away from others so we don't get disturbed." Nakkita stepped up to Daryl to run her hand down his chest and settle her hand on his belt.
"Nakkita." Daryl growled lowly.
"Won't it be romantic." Nakkita said dryly causing Daryl to snort and shake his head.
"Yeah, I always wanted to make love to my wife in a prison cell." Daryl replied with a roll of his eyes while she laughed.
"Come on, let's get down and head back to the others." Daryl told her.
The two dropped on the ground behind the bus and close to the fence. The others could not see them as the bus obstructed the view of them. Still playful, Nakkita slapped Daryl on the ass causing him to whirl around.
"That is for pinching my ass earlier."
The next moment happened fast. Nakkita found her back pressed against the underside of the bumper of the bus and Daryl body pressed against her own.
"You are asking for trouble, wife." Daryl said, pressing his lips against her own and pulled away as she spoke out.
"Do you think the others will mind us taking time to our selves?" Nakkita winked.
"You're too loud." Daryl scoffed and pulled away.
Daryl began walking toward the others causing Nakkita to jog up to walk alongside him.
"Loud? Loud? Have you heard yourself when you finish?" Nakkita pointed out playfully.
Daryl stopped walking and stared at her with wide eyes, but then he got a snarl on his face. It was a playful one that made Nakkita to smile, but let out a small yelp as he lunged at her. She dodged him and the two ran around in a small circle until Daryl latched his hand around her wrist, tugging her against him.
"I love you." Daryl whispered to her.
She smiled and reached up to rest her hands on either side of his face.
"I love you too."
The two pulled away, but Nakkita was not done with her fun. With another slap on his ass had Daryl to pause then lunged at her as she tried to run away. He managed to grab her and tossed her over his shoulder.
"Daryl! Put me down this instant." Nakkita shouted.
"You like my ass too much woman."
The group looked up as they heard and watched the Dixon couple coming toward them. They began to laugh at their comments back and forth at each other.
"You have a cute ass." Nakkita pointed out and poked at it.
"Cute? Cute? Dixon's aren't cute." Daryl snarled.
"I told you Maggie." Nakkita shouted as she tried to sit up on Daryl's shoulder, but failing to do so.
Laughter from Maggie got louder as she remembered the comment from Nakkita and her earlier that day. It made Daryl to stare at Maggie with a glare as he wonder what his wife and she talked about this morning.
"What did you two talk about?"
"Nothing." Maggie and Nakkita said at the same time.
"Nothing my ass and Dixon's aren't cute."
"Then what are you, adorable." Glenn muttered, but a bit too loudly.
"What was that?" Daryl asked.
"Nothing, nothing." Glenn replied quickly, but trying not to laugh with everyone else.
After another minute of laughter, Nakkita patted Daryl on his back.
"Daryl, I would like to be set down now even though I like looking at your adorable ass."
That brought another round of laughter to erupt from the group.
