The city, which I'm afraid haven't fully described, has two main sections: the outer city- which is where most of the city's inhabitants lived and where all of the markets and artisans operated- and the inner city, which housed the leafmen, myself, public officials, and all of the things needed to run the cities, like offices and such. In the very middle of the very bottom floor of the inner city, there was a room that no one ever went into or came out of except leafmen. Two of them always stood guard on either side of the only door into the room, which had no windows. Under the outer city was MoonHaven's prison, which was almost always near vacant, and I assumed that room was the only way in or out. Of course, I only knew this through Nod, and hadn't ever been down there myself.
It was to that room that the Leafmen were dragging me. The whole city was silent as they did. There weren't many people in the city, but everyone that was there had come out into the open, lining the halls, their hands clasped behind their backs as the looked on, some in pity, others in what appeared to be betrayal. No one said anything to the leafmen or to me, and no one tried to help me. They all just watched as I was pulled hopelessly to wherever they were taking me.
When we reached the room, one of the leafmen guardian the door opened it and the two holding me shoved me forward, slamming the door behind me.
"MK?!" I heard from across the room, causing me to look up. standing in front of me was Nod. His hands were tied behind his back, and his lower lip was busted and swollen, but he was grinning anyway.
"Hey, it's my baby girl!" I heard from the left. Mub? Grub? They were both here.
"Hey kid, sorry about all this," And Nim.
"Enough with the greetings, let's get down to business here," Ronin's voice called out as he stepped into the room.
"You!" I snarled, charging at him in anger. He stopped me easily, grabbing my wrists and turning me around, holding them behind me and making it impossible for me to move.
"I thought you were smart," Ronin chuckled.
"Well I thought you weren't an asshole. I guess we were both wrong," I replied.
Ronin grabbed a piece of rope from the table in the center of the room and tied my hands behind my back. "Look, kid. This isn't a time for this. You need to calm down and trust me."
"Trust you?" I scoffed.
"Well its not like you have another option anyway. Now, all of you, follow me," He stated, pulling open a panel in the floor that led to a well-lit stairway into the undercity. He ushered all of us through before closing the panel.
We followed him down 6 different staircases before he finally started leading us through the winding halls. The place was not, as I expected, a traditional prison, but instead was a separate part of the city. It housed separate suite-style apartments. One by one, he put all of us in different 'cells', except for me and Nod. He led us to the room at the very end of the hall and ushered us in.
As soon as we entered, he untied each of us, and, of course, Nod immediately went to punch him, but Ronin just grabbed his fist and shot him a glare, making him stop.
"Okay, I think it's only fair that I explain what's going on," He said. "like both of you know, if the queen dies, the forest dies, too, but since you've been so sick, we haven't been able to regrow anything the boggans have destroyed. The forest is gone, MK. And the outer city is getting more rotten by the day. Since you're alive, you've managed to keep MoonHaven up and running, but being as weak as you are, you can't keep the whole forest going from here like Tara could when she was alive. And there are boggans everywhere. That's why you can't leave. They will attack MoonHaven if they get the chance, and they'll kill you if they catch you outside the city. We can't let that happen, so you're staying here. We can't let you leave, at least not until you're stronger," Ronin explained. "And that's why you're here, to make sure you can't leave the city." After that, he walked out, locking the door behind him.
