Here's yet another chapter :) Been in a writing mood and I owe it to you guys. I hope you're still there and are reading the chapters. Reviews are a lot of encouragement for me. When you review, it let's me know that you read still and like what I'm putting out. Well anyways, enjoy the new chapter! xoxo
It was yet another day at the office. Anymore life was the exact same thing every day. Wake up, shower, get dressed, eat, rush to work. I followed this routine precisely as I do every morning. I told Vee goodbye on the way out the door and drove off to work.
~ Patch: Early Morning ~
I have changed my mind three times on if I would see Nora today or not. I really, really want to see her and explain everything. But then again the Archangels know that I would escape to see her. I don't want to put her in any danger. But she's still in danger regardless. They want to kill her and Vee. I do have to warn her about that.
"Good morning. Sleep well in your little cave?"
I looked over and the girl from last night was sitting next to me in the sand.
"Yes, actually. What about you? Where did you sleep?"
"I usually find something abandoned to sleep in. Like there's an abandoned RV down the beach."
"Sounds cozy."
"Totally," she half rolled her eyes.
"Better than an old cave," I laughed.
She smiled. "So, I can tell that you're thinking, the way you're looking at the water. What about, may I ask?"
"I want to go see my girlfriend, like I'd said last night. But it can cause a lot of problems and put her in danger. I don't know if I should go see her or not."
"Sounds intense. Well, which one screams out to you more?"
"Going to see her."
"Then do that. I'm sure you can protect her," she smiled.
I smiled back. "Thank you."
"No problem."
"Can I ask your name?"
"Liza, yours?"
"Patch."
She stuck her hand out. "Nice to meet you."
I shook her hand. "Nice to meet you too."
"Well, good luck with your girlfriend."
"Good luck to you too! I'll have to come back soon to visit and you can meet her."
"Sounds like a plan, farewell."
We both nodded and I got up, walking up the beach. It would probably take a bus to get to her office building and I don't have much money. I found the nearest pay phone and slid a few quarters in, calling the only person I knew would come.
"Hello?"
"Vee? I need you to come to the beach and pick me up."
"Who's this?"
"Patch."
"No it's not. Who is this?"
"It's me, Patch, I swear."
"How are you calling me?"
"I escaped. I need to talk to Nora."
"Oh, no you don't. You don't need to get near her."
"Vee, just PLEASE come get me so I can explain things to her!"
She huffed. "Fine. I'll be there soon."
"Thank you."
"Don't mention it." Then she hung up.
I walked along the beach until she got there. People came and went, some staring like I shouldn't be pacing the beach. Finally, she pulled up into the parking lot next to the beach and I jogged over to the car.
"So it really is you," she said as she got out of the car.
"Yes. I escaped last night."
"Why didn't you call last night then?"
"It was late and I felt that it was necessary for me to celebrate for a bit that I am free from them and can see Nora again."
She smiled. "And I guess it's better to surprise her at work."
"Yes. Well, let's go."
We got into the car and she drove us in the right direction. I looked out the window at all the buildings while some band was playing on the radio. Someone Vee must know, because she's tapping her fingers on the steering wheel.
"And here we are.."
I recognized the building and knew that we really were.
"Would you like me to go in with you?"
"No, no. I'll be fine. I need to do this alone."
"Alright. Well, good luck. Hopefully she doesn't kill you," she laughed.
"That mad?"
"Oh yeah."
I laughed and got out, heading up the sidewalk to the door. I walked up to the receptionist in the middle of the room. She looked up at me and smiled.
"Hello! How can I help you?"
"I'm looking for a Nora Grey. Would you be able to tell me what floor she's on?"
"Of course! Let me look."
She started typing away on her computer and I waited impatiently.
"Yes, here she is. She's on floor 7. And from there you can ask that receptionist what room she's in."
"Okay. Thank you."
"No problem!"
I pressed the button for the elevator then pressed 7 when it came down. The ride to floor 7 was quick. I stepped off and was immediately greeted by the receptionist.
"How may I help you?"
"Yes, I'm looking for a Nora Grey. Can you tell her that someone's here for her?"
"Of course."
She picked up her phone and dialed what I'm guessing is the number to Nora's office. She gave her the message and then smiled at me.
"She'll be here in a few. You can sit down on one of the couches behind you."
I nodded and sat down. It took a couple minutes before she finally came. You could here her voice coming down the hallway, asking the receptionist who was here to see her. Once she finally turned the corner, she saw me and the look on her face was disbelief. Her hand went to her mouth.
"How are you here?"
"It's a long story," I managed a smile. "Is there somewhere we can talk?"
"Yes," she said as she walked to a door with "Lounge" on it.
I followed her and we walked into it, her locking it behind me.
"Spill it. Why are you here?"
"I missed you, Nora. And there's things I need to tell you."
"What?"
"The Archangels are after you and Vee."
"What do you mean?"
"They were talking about the two of you and they want you both dead."
"Why?!"
"I have no idea. At first I thought they were doing it just to torment me but I think they're serious."
"They need to be stopped."
"I know. That's part of the reason why I came back."
"You have a lot of explaining to do, you know."
"I know. And I will. But first we need to tell Vee and find a way to protect the two of you."
"Do I need to leave work?"
"No, you'll be fine. But after today I don't know if you should."
She nodded. I opened up my arms and looked at her. She fell into my arms and we hugged each other tight.
"Please don't leave again," she said into my chest.
"I won't, I promise."
I lifted her chin up and we kissed.
"I love you, Patch."
"I love you too, Nora."
"Well I should probably get back to work before they start to wonder.."
"Good idea. Have a good day."
"I will. You do the same."
We kissed one last time then we walked out the lounge room. She walked back down to her office and I went back down the elevator to the lobby. I said goodbye to the receptionist and got back into Vee's car.
"How did it go?"
"Good. She wasn't too mad."
"I'm glad. So, what are we doing now?"
"Going back to the apartment. There's things I need to tell you."
"Like what?"
"I'll tell you when we get back to the apartment."
She nodded and started up the car. The trip to the apartment was short. We got in and sat down on the couch.
"So, what do you need to tell me?"
"Well, part of the reason I'd left was because the Archangels are talking about killing you and Nora."
Her eyes widened. "What? Why?"
"I can't answer that. At first I thought that they were just trying to torment me but now I know that they're being serious about it."
"What are we going to do?"
"I have no idea. All I know is that I need to make sure the two of you are safe. She won't be going back to work after today."
"I seriously hope this doesn't turn into a huge war.."
"So do I."
