Author's Note: Longer note at the bottom but sorry that it took so long for an update.
Derek's POV
The beeping that filled the air was deafening with the lack of any other sound in the room. Meredith and I were sitting next to Caitlyn's bed waiting for any change, any sign that it was getting better. Meredith looked at our daughter with tears in her eyes. I knew she was freaking out but trying to appear like she was staying calm. "Come here." I say softly and surprisingly Meredith sits in my lap without any fuss but keeps her eyes on Caitlyn. "She's going to be ok." I whisper into her ear.
"How could we have not seen the sings?" Meredith whispered and I knew a freak out was about to start whether she wanted it or not. "We are doctors, but we can't see the signs in our own daughter? What kind of mother-"
"Meredith stop." Her head turns to look at me and her eyes show the confusion that she was definitely feeling.
"What?"
"We helped Caitlyn because of you. You realized what was going on before I did. She could have gone under at home, but you thought of what it could be before it could get out of hand. That's what a mother does. She figures out what is wrong so she can help to fix it." She smiled weakly, knowing that we had done all that we could. Now all we can do is wait. I knew that Meredith was still not completely done freaking out, internally at least, and it wouldn't be good for the babies. "Calm down Mer. She's going to be fine, because she has the best care available, even better than normal since all the doctors know her personally."
"Also helps that she is the chief's daughter doesn't it?"
"Of course, it means she will be given the best doctors and the best treatment options available. Now can you try and relax a little bit?" I say softly.
"Right, I got to take care of all three of our kids." I smile at how she is already being motherly towards our new children.
"What happened?" We turn to see Lexie and Mark at the door. "Callie said that Caitlyn was here, like as a patient." Mark says with worry lacing every word.
"Is it her leg again?" Lexie asks slightly freaking out, which showed more similarities to Meredith through her actions.
"No, she's in a coma caused by HHNS." One of the few things about having close family that were also doctors meant I didn't have to do more explaining than that. My mom and sisters would probably need more information later in regards to what was going on but I had let them know briefly what was going on so they were aware but enough that they knew she was going to be ok and that they didn't need to all fly out here or anything drastic. "Arizona started her on an IV with insulin and potassium in order to bring it down but it's going to be a slow process."
"Do you want us to wait with you?" Lexie asks.
"No we will page you if anything changes." Mer says and I nod. Lexie and Mark say quick byes before leaving to go back to work since they both understood that we just wanted to be with our daughter.
Author's Note: I'm so sorry that it took so long for me to get this done. As I mentioned before, I lost all my prior work. It was in a journal and from moving from home to college it was lost somewhere along the 1500+ miles. So I lost all the work I had towards this story which was an additional 8 or so chapters and since I stopped watching Grey's Anatomy a couple seasons ago I am trying to find a way to get back in the swing of it. I managed to find some time to watch a little bit of Grey's Anatomy from the time and I think I figured out slightly where I was taking this. I managed to get four-ish chapters written so now I need to just edit them and write out two last chapters (since I think that is where this is going to end). Thank you all for being so patient with me about all of this and hopefully this will get into happier territory soon!
