"My wolf? You have to be joking," Dyson said.
"Does it look like I'm joking? I need it."
"You act like my wolf is something I can just give up."
"But that's the beauty of it, you can. I've spoken with the Norn..."
"Argh," Dyson growled, his wolf starting to show on his face. "You thinking for even one second that I will deal with that crone ever again proves you are just as ignorant as I thought you were."
"Like I said, Dyson, you will do what I ask if you want your friends to live. In the unlikely event that you choose not to do what I ask, I will make you the loneliest wolf on earth."
Before Dyson could reply, he saw Bo coming back in the restaurant.
"Dyson," she called from the door, looking at him. She wondered why he would still be talking to Mark.
"I'll be right out," he called back, never taking his eyes off of Mark.
"God, it's pathetic," Mark laughed from across a stern looking Dyson. "What a sucker. Looks like you'll seriously consider my offer. I will be in touch."
Dyson left the table and walked to the door without so much as a look back. He never faltered in his step once.
"Are you alright?" she asked when he stepped outside, noticing the look on his face. No matter how hard he tried, he was still Dyson; the tortured soul, the warrior.
"Yeah, let's get her home," he said, ignoring Bo, and getting back in his truck, her behind him, and Kia waiting in the truck.
Dyson dropped them off at the police station and went back to work, leaving Bo to take Kia home, make sure she was safe.
"Are you okay?" Bo asked on the seemingly silent drive home.
"You know, that's the one thing, I really wish no one would ask me right now. No offense, Bo, but i'm alive, so i'm good."
"You're right, I just needed to know I had you back," she smiled.
The environment was tense, and the girls were tenser, at least one of them anyway. Bo didn't know what to say. She had went to being Kia's almost killer, to her drinking buddy, to her protector and savior all in a matter of days. She felt as though Kia was Kenzi, someone so weak and feeble that needed her protection. She had lost her best friend, but gained another in her place, although, no one could really take the place of Kenzi.
"Look," Kia said once they were safe inside Bo's shabby shack. "You've done a lot for me, Bo, you really have, but you shouldn't have saved me. Mark, he's crazy, and I don't think you ever fully will understand just how insane he can be, how cold and cruel he can really be. He will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Everything he said he was going to do, I promise he will make good on. I mean, he fooled you and Dyson into thinking he was a good guy. I can't put you in danger, or your friends, not after all you have done to save my life."
"What else would you have us do?" Bo questioned. "We have to fight, we always fight, well I do anyway. No one is going to threaten me into doing what they want, it's just not in my blood."
"Bo," she paused, taking a deep breath, trying to find the words to voice what she wanted to say.
"Let him take me, far away from here, do whatever he wants with me. Make me his Jasmine."
"You can't be serious," Bo said, her anger flaring. "I didn't go through all of this, we didn't go through all of this just to give you over to him. We will fight for you."
"We?!" Kia shockingly enunciated. "Your friends hate me! They want to kill me! The only reason i'm here is because of you! If you didn't take responsibility for me, keep me safe, they would have beat me like a dog, killed me slowly and painfully. Rightfully so after all the pain I caused, all the families I've broken apart, all the lives I cost, all the souls I have destroyed. Bo, I can never be forgiven for all of that, not even by you. You have too good of a heart. Too big. But, I'm afraid now, that nothing can save me. You have to hand me over to him, and give him whatever he wants. I can't risk your life, and the lives of those you love."
"I'm not handing you over to anyone, especially not someone as sadistic as, Mark. I'm sorry I ever left you out of my sight, Kia. You're safe now, go take a shower, get something to eat, i'll be up in my room. Please, don't go anywhere," Bo almost begged.
With that, she left Kia in the living room and climbed the stairs to her room, afraid to leave Kia alone, out of fear now, that she might in fact run off.
"Bo?" Kia asked before Bo was to disappear up the stairs.
"Yeah," she stopped in her tracks.
"Can I – sleep with you tonight? I just don't wanna be alone right now."
"Yes, you can," Bo said relieved. She wanted Kia to feel safe with her. She wanted to protect her, because in most ways, Kia was Bo not that long ago. A rehabilitated killer, someone that needed guidance and protection, someone that needed to be taught compassion and caring all over again. Someone that needed love.
"Look," Bo added. "I'm supposed to be meeting Lauren tonight for drinks at the Dal, how about we rest up a little and head out after?"
"I don't know about that Bo," Kia said, as they resumed their stair climbing.
Bo waited until they were in her bedroom to respond.
"Look, I know that you think everyone wants to kill you, but maybe if you showed them just how different you are from what they think, then maybe they'll want to get in on helping you out. Oh and there's something else. Please, whatever you do, do not tell Lauren about any of this, I don't need her worrying."
"Of course, I won't tell, Lauren. But what does she have to worry about, you're the one dealing with all of this. Standing up to your friends, going to the ends of the earth to find me and save me, it looks to me like you're the one that deserves a night off."
"Well," Bo started. "I love, Lauren, Kia. She is everything to me-"
"But.."
"But, she is also human. Dyson and I, we used to have a thing, we used to be a thing. I loved him once as well. Wolfs mate for life, once he gave his love to me, he gave me everything. Long story short, he ended up going to the Norn, to try and give up his wolf for me, to save my life. But the Norn tricked him, and ended up taking that which was the most precious to him, his love for me. He can remember everything we had together, every touch, every kiss, every laugh, but never again will he ever feel love for me. It killed me for the longest time, to see the man I love resent me. I ended up getting away from my feelings, and Lauren was there, Lauren cared since day one. And I fell in love."
"That's so sad," was all Kia could say.
"Yeah. So Lauren doesn't exactly like it when I go on secret missions with Dyson behind her back, in fact, she hates it, despises it, but I need Dyson sometimes, he's a police officer in the human world, and sometimes I need information on a case we both happen to be working on, or I need his help with one of my victims, or with another Fae, he's my smarts, and he's my muscle. Lauren will never understand that. I never wanted to have to lie to her, it kills me to do it, but it is for her own good."
"Yeah, I understand where she is coming from as well as you. She loves you a lot, that's all. She doesn't wanna get hurt, and she doesn't wanna hurt you."
"Right, so let's get some rest, huh?" Bo said, not wanting to talk about it anymore.
Bo fell asleep slowly that afternoon, feeling awkward with the woman she just rescued next to her. She tried to pretend she was sleeping next to Lauren, smiling as she eased herself to sleep.
"Bo!" she heard someone call in her sleep. She jumped from her sleep to see Lauren standing at the end of her bed. Upon examining herself, she saw her arm around Kia, who rested peacefully in the succubus' arms.
"Lauren," she moved her arm quickly. "What are you doing here?"
Bo was groggy, embarrassed, and at a loss for words or an explanation.
