I don't want to let you go, but I can't be selfish.
Not with you.
So I stand there, at the station, waving goodbye with a smile on my face.
Who am I fooling? Not you. You blow me a kiss and send me a text.
'Forever' it says.
I'll hold you onto that.
The train engine starts. Tears sting my eyes. My heart twists painfully.
I'll miss you. But you promised to come back to me.
I think about the first day I met you. You helped me with my water bottle because I was carrying too many things. You didn't have to, but you did. Your heart is pure.
This, you have proven to me, over and over. You put your heart into everything that you do. Gymnastics, cheer-leading, tennis, book club...medicine. You can do anything and you picked the world's most selfless job. Knowing I can say this, you were born to save people. It's written in your fate.
That's why you're leaving me to pursue degree in medicine in the city. They have better equipment there anyway. That's my reason. I'm the one that pushed you to go. I will not hold you back from anything. I will not be the one to cage you, my Bird.
So I smile through my tears as I wave you goodbye. The train moves. I move with it. I walk alongside of it to see your pretty face for as long as I can. I won't give up on us. Neither will you, you said.
We'll Skype. We'll visit each other.
I have to stay here because of Grandpa, but I'll take every possible opportunity to see you. I clutch my phone tighter in my palm. Your text message on my screen.
