Chapter 24
Max and Ashley were walking to the dance arm in arm.
"You know I'm glad that you are going to the dance with me despite what day it is." Ashley said leaning against Max.
"And what day would that be?" Max asked curiously.
"The day we became parentless." Ashley said.
Max froze in place which caused Ashley to stop too. She pulled on his arm, which made him start walking again.
"How do you know what day it is?" Max said. "I thought I was the only one to know."
"It's true that you were the only one to actually check the date that day, but a few of us were able to tell the date since you sing "The Parting Glass". And you sand it on a date that none of us remembered for anything that would give reason for it." Ashley explained.
Max chuckled slightly and said. "Damn if you guys noticed that I wonder what else you guys noticed."
"You'll be amazed what we noticed and didn't tell you." Ashley said.
"I guess I should keep on my toes around the ones you want to kill me or else they might actually kill me." Max said with a proud smile, though not for himself but for others actually keeping him from finding out about it.
"Are you smiling because we hid something from you without you finding out?" Ashley asked.
"You just make me so proud." Max said and used his Shadow arm to wipe fake tears from his eyes.
Ashley playfully punched Max in the chest, which caused him to laugh.
They arrived at the dance and were greeted by Yin. "Hey Yin what are you doing greeting? I thought Yang was greeting." Max asked.
"I took over so she and Blake could get some time to talk before Sun showed up." Yin said.
"How are they doing?" Ashley asked.
"Pretty good last time I saw them." Yin said. "Speaking of which, where are they?"
Max's shadow arm raised up and pointed to the bumblebee couple.
"They're awfully close to each other." Ashley said.
"Yeah, but I think it's more of Yang teasing Blake." Yin said.
"Hey have Ruby and Weiss showed up yet?" Max asked.
"Yeah they arrived a few minutes ago." Yin said.
"Shadow search." Max commanded and his shadow hand turned into shadow's head and it went up like a para scope.
Shadow found them in a corner dancing, well Weiss was dancing and Ruby trying not to fall on her face because of the heels. Shadow pointed in the direction before returning to Max and remaking his shadow arm. "Well I'm going to go say hey then go to the terrace."
"Mix we need to talk to my parents too." Ashley said.
"But your father scares me." Max protested.
"You're scared of my father?" Ashley asked surprised.
"Hey I've seen your father angry and in unleashed mode in the battlefield, and I rather not go up against that thank you very much." Max said.
"Come one we're talking to them first." Ashley said taking Max's arm and dragging him away.
"Later Teddy Bear." Max said using his shadow arm to wave goodbye.
"Later Pepper Head." Yin replied with a wave.
Ashley quickly found her parents, since Yatsuhashi was tall and Velvet's rabbit ears stuck out. "Hey Velvet, Yatsuhashi." Velvet said when she reached them.
"Hey Ashley." Velvet said and hugged Ashley, They had been hanging out a lot since Velvet found out about their blood relationship. Velvet was wearing a coco powder brown dress what stopped at her knees.
"Hey Yatsuhashi." Max said and stuck out his hand.
"Hello Max." Yatsuhashi said and shook Max's hand. Yatsuhashi was in a black tux.
"Hey Yatsuhashi did you know Max is scared of you?" Ashley asked and Max's head snapped to her.
"Really? Why?" Yatsuhashi said.
"I've seen angry, unleashed version of you." Max said.
"I'm that scary?" Yatsuhashi asked.
"Hells ya motherfucker." Max said. "You scared the Grimm."
"I'm sorry." Yatsuhashi said.
"It's fine. We would have been screwed without a walking tank like you." Max said.
"Well as long as I was helpful." Yatsuhashi said.
"Gentle giant." Max said and looked at Velvet. "I can see why you like him."
Velvet and Yatsuhashi blushed. After a few minutes of small talk Max and Ashley went over to Ruby and Weiss.
"Hey you two how's it going?" Max asked.
"Awful. Weiss is being mean to me." Ruby said pouting.
"Weiss." Max said an accusing tone.
"It's not my fault she can't dance or walk in heels." Weiss retorted.
"Weiss everyone didn't grow up learning to properly dance and walking in high heels is a pain in the feet if you're not use to it." Max said.
"My feet do hurt." Ruby said looking down at her feet.
The others face palmed. "Weiss just keep it to the simple swaying of the hips and kissing." Max said smiling at the end.
Ruby blushed, Weiss grew red from anger and embarrassment, while Ashley giggled quietly at their faces.
Weiss raised her hand and a glyph appeared. Max's shadow hand appeared shot out and grabbed Weiss's hand that was casting the glyph, cancelling it out. "Now now now Weiss no casting glyphs at the dance." Max said.
"We just wanted to stop by and say hi." Max continued. "If you need me or Ash we'll be on the terrace."
Max then walked away. "You two make such a cute couple." Ashley said before following Max.
Max and Ashley got to the terrace and luckily they were alone.
"So you going to sing your song?" Ashley asked.
"I'm not the best singer you know." Max replied.
"It's true Summer beats you by leagues, but you've song the song enough that you are actually really good at it." Ashley said.
"Fine." Max sighed. He took in a deep breath and started to sing.
Of all the money that e'er I had

Max finished the song looking up at sky. Ashley had tears as at the sad, longing way he sang the song. Max opened his mouth to speak, but Shadow came out and pointed to some buildings off in the distance. Max and Ashley looked in the direction and saw some figure running across the roof tops of some distant buildings.
"Who is that?" Ashley asked.
Max closed his left eyes and said. "Cinder Fall."
Ashley looked at Max in surprise. "How the hell can you tell who that is when I can't? Seriously I have night vision and you don't."
Max pointed to his right silver eye. "The eye of Ruby Rose."
Ashley flipped him off, to which Max laughed at. "Go enjoy the dance I'll handle Cinder." Max said and walked off.
Ashley smiled at Max's back. "You always have to do everything yourself don't you?"
Max turned his head back to Ashley and his hood disappeared. He smiled widely back at Ashley, the moon light illuminating his eyes and the white of his hair giving him a magically vibe. "I'm never by myself, because no matter what I got you guys right here." He touched his thumb to his heart. "In my heart."
Ashley smiled and said. "Of course you do."
Max then walked down the stairs and left without anyone noticing.
Cinder made her way to the top of commination tower. When she arrived at the top she was shocked to see Max waiting for her. She made her weapons and got into a fighting stance. Max held up his hand and said. "Relax I'm not here to stop you or to fight you, I just want to talk, Cinder Fall."
Max saw the shock shoot across Cinder's face even if it was only for a second. "I'm going to keep this brief is General Ironwood is going to be here soon. I know who you are and you know who I am. If you go through with this plan of yours you will be starting a second human faunus war. Now I don't really know if that is your plan or not, but what I do know is there is a secret underground group who will use that war to summon the king of all Grimm Grimmwal. Yes I know this sounds crazy, but I am telling the truth. If you ever want to talk more find me, my wife Ashley, or Yin. Anyways Ironwood will be here soon so I suggest we leave." Max said and fell backwards behind a desk, vanishing into thin air.
Cinder run over to where Max vanished only to find nothing. She heard the elevator door ring and decided to vanish herself, pissed she was unable to do what she wanted to do.
