Hey y'all. Thanks for the reviews. I was thinking about ideas for a Vergil fic, again it would be about Classic Vergil and not DmC Vergil. Where did it say that Nero was Vergil's son and that his mother was a prostitute? I know there were hints about Nero being Vergil's son in DMC4 but I'm not really sure if official and where the prostitute came from.

Anyway, thanks for clicking on the next chapter. It's a chapter before I take a break for Christmas so please enjoy. Have a happy Christmas and if I don't update then best wishes for 2015 xxx

THE EVIL WITHIN

"Been a long time since we did this." Dante murmured with a grin on his face; he was rubbing the soap all over her body as they stood under the spray of water.

The tiny bathroom was steamy and hot; it was morning and they both had decided to take a shower together, therefore they stood in the tiny cubicle under the shower's spray. "I'm starting to prune." Trixie said with a pout, glancing at her fingertips which were beginning to become slightly bumpy, "We've been showering for at least half an hour now."

"Yep." He agreed, "Isn't it great?"

Trixie let out a hum under her breath and grabbed a bottle of cheap-looking shower gel from the rack, "Can you stand still for a moment?"

"Why?"

"Just stand still."

He watched her bemusedly as she started squeezing a dollop of the gel all over his shoulders and down his chest. "I can do that myself." He said as he reached over and began caressing the sides of her body, his hands soapy and bubbly, she raised an eyebrow as his hands went lower and lower purposefully.

"...I can do all that myself too."

He merely grinned and continued to lather her up before playfully dabbing at her nose with one bubbly hand. "Admit it. This is much better." He uttered, as she wiped at her nose.

She chuckled in response. The gel foamed up and after a few good minutes of scrubbing, she grabbed the shower head off from the clip on the wall and rinsed him off; Dante wiped excess water from his eyes and as she replaced the shower to its normal position, he reached forwards and with one hand cupping her cheek and his arm draped around her waist, pressed her tightly against him. "Dante - " She began, only to get cut off when he crushed his lips against hers. He kissed her hungrily as she lowered her hands to rest on his broad shoulders, massaging him tentatively, and when they pulled away, he licked his lips, grinning again. She smiled at him in response. "By the way...When we go back, what will we say to Vergil?"

He shrugged. "I dunno. I'll handle it."

She nodded. "You know...I don't really remember much after Shen attacked me."

"That bastard Sullivan sent him after you. I should've known." Clenching his fist, he slammed it against the tiles of the bathroom.

"Why did he want to kill me?"

"Because you were a distraction."

"...Mr Sullivan really said that?"

He nodded in response. "Yeah. Trix. I'm sorry. I couldn't protect you, even though I kept saying all those things."

She placed her hand on his cheek. "Dante, it wasn't your fault."

His fist clenching again, he could only grind his teeth together in fury. "That fuck got away with it."

Trixie didn't want to say it and bit on her lip, chewing nervously. He got away with it and separated me from Dante for three years...

"You left a note." He uttered; he threw his glance down to his feet a little dejectedly.

"What note?"

"Sayin' that you were gonna leave me."

Her eyes widened. "Oh." She squeaked, "Oh, Dante. No...I wasn't – Ohhh no, of course not."

"Then what happened?"

Trixie pondered for a while, then glanced up to meet his gaze. "...My mother."

"What?"

"She came to see me. But I...I turned her away. And then, the next day, I felt like I shouldn't have and I regretted it... so I wanted to go find her. To find my family. I wasn't going to leave you. Just get a bus outta town for a while and come back. Do some soul-searching, I guess." She explained. That cleared things up a great deal. "But it doesn't matter...because my father found me, and he...he was horrible. He hurt me and he tried to hurt Vergil too."

"...He killed him." He murmured, "You're... okay with that?"

It was then Trixie shook her head, but she looked lost, defeated. "I...I don't really know." She admitted quietly.

Dante muttered under his breath, "I didn't think Verge could do such a thing."

"Your brother is very powerful, Dante." She said, and he nodded, remembering his mock battle with his twin which didn't really end well. She added, "You fought him?"

"Wasn't really a fight. He kicked my ass."

She let out a sigh. "...It's been a long time, Dante. I can't help but feel like...so much time has been wasted."

"Yeah, no kidding." He drew her into his embrace again and held her firmly in his arms, nuzzling her affectionately, "This time I won't lose sight of you, okay? You're not going anywhere. You're not leaving my sight ever again."

"Okay." She said, clutching onto him tightly, squeezing her eyes shut.

LATER

"Master Vergil, your brother and Miss Beatrice have returned."

At the butler's announcement, Vergil put down his glass and moved to stand. "...I see."

They'd been away for one night. After he left them at the pier, he didn't wonder what they might had gotten up to since he had a rough idea, especially judging by Dante's character. He strode out of the lounge and into the hall where they stood and immediately he noticed they were standing very close to each other and that they were holding hands. He raised an eyebrow at their close proximity and she looked remorseful when she met his gaze.

At first, no-one said a word and the tension was dreadful. Finally, to alleviate the awkwardness, he said, "You've returned. Beatrice, do you want to go back to your own room to rest?"

It didn't surprise anyone that Dante was the one to speak first. "No-one's going anywhere, Verge. We need to talk."

Vergil averted his gaze from Trixie to his twin. "Fine, we'll speak in the trophy room." He led them into the room, shut the door behind them once they entered; Vergil sat down on one of his couches whilst Dante sat opposite him, clutching Trixie's hand so she sat beside him. "I'm listening. Talk."

"She remembers, Vergil."

"Yes, I am aware of that."

"I was with her first – "

"Dante... " Trixie started, but Vergil held up his hand, silencing her effectively.

"Beatrice, it's alright. I've already called off the engagement."

Her eyes went wide as she turned to the older twin in shock. "What?"

Vergil said, "You and I both know the engagement was a mutual agreement. Your father entrusted you to me and it had always been that way. You have no relation to me; we were not blood related at all, so the best way for you in order to remain by my side under my protection and care...was to get engaged, to get married. You would live under my shelter and guardianship for the rest of your life; that was our agreement."

"Vergil..."

"I proposed it first, so I bear full responsibility. As of today, I have decided to call it off. You may return to live with Dante if you wish." Turning to Dante, Vergil added, "Brother. You have my blessing."

Now it was Dante whose eyes went wide. "...Uh..."

"I understand how important Beatrice is to you, Dante." Vergil said as he got off his seat. "We can have our petty squabbles now and then, but my main priority continues to be our mission which is to defeat Mundus and to get our vengeance. Beatrice should not be a reason for us to clash, especially during this crucial moment in time; it's not fair to her either. I didn't want this to hinder our goal but we're already a few days late behind our next mission."

Without another word, he sauntered towards the exit and Trixie got up to stand next. "Vergil, wait – " She said, trailing after him, moving to stand in front of him. He gazed down at her, expressionless and Beatrice gazed at him with a saddened expression before she briefly wrapped her arms around him. Vergil did not respond, opting to remain still. However, he let out a quiet sigh and gently placed a hand over the small of her back. "...Vergil...Thank you."

"No, there is no need to thank me, Beatrice," He replied, "Three years ago, I found you; you had been attacked by a demon and your father, Barachiel, insisted I take you home and he erased your memories. We lied to you. We knew that upon your awakening you would question your identity and who we were, so Barachiel created the perfect fabrication – that you were my lover who had suffered a fatal attack, and that you were unable to recall anything prior to it." Vergil muttered, "It took you more than half a year until you finally trusted me. If I was aware that you had been with Dante, I would have returned you to him. For that, I have done you wrong and I am sorry."

Dante promptly stood up in his seat. Despite Vergil's apology, he considered the three years that no matter what, would never be returned to him. Those three years of torture and agony, of never fully knowing or realizing Trixie's fate and his three years of solitary life. "Verge," He snarled, marching over to them before he pulled Trixie off him and stood in front of her, facing Vergil directly, "How could you?"

Turning to his younger twin, he exclaimed, "For her own protection, Dante! Why can't you see that? Or is that damned temper of yours that prevents you from doing so?"

"Dante, please... calm down." Trixie grabbed his hand, but he pulled away.

"Don't tell me to calm down when you were taken away from me for all that time – "

"Yes, and I apologize, Dante. I apologize for all the unimaginable pain I inflicted unto you and Beatrice. I am sorry." Vergil said sternly, "What else do you want me to do? She was attacked that day and no-one would have been able to help her except from Barachiel and myself. Should I have left her to perish at the hands of a demon?" And Dante opened his mouth to protest but when Trixie grabbed his arm, he said nothing. Vergil continued, "Our main priority is this mission, so can we put this aside until Mundus has been defeated?"

"You and your fucking mission." Dante spat; he wondered if this was truly what he wanted now. "From what I've heard so far it's all about you – "

"Dante!" Trixie spun him round to face her, cupping the sides of his face. "The mission, Dante. You're doing this for yourself, for Vergil and your parents, remember? Your family."

But you're my family too, he thought, as he gazed at her. Earnestly, he could just forfeit his involvement in this mission right now. However, when he searched her face, he couldn't seem to. "...Fine." He uttered under his breath.

"Thank you, Dante." Vergil replied. He looked somewhat relieved at his reply.

"Vergil?" She began, sidestepping from Dante and over to the older twin. "...Vergil, you took care of me too. You looked after me, you cared for me. You did what you had to do."

He smiled and placed his hand on her cheek. "Yes, I did, and I shall continue to care for you always, as a brother." When her lips curled into a small smile in response, he removed his hand from her cheek and politely excused himself.

And when he left the room, he dropped his smile.

...

She was sitting on her swing outside when she heard someone approaching her; turning round, she saw that it was Dante, who grinned once he stopped behind her.

"Hey." He said.

"Hey." She replied.

"That went well."

"...Really? You think so?"

He shrugged. "Could've been worse. Got enough space for two?"

"Sure." She muttered. He took the thick ropes in hand and then lifted himself up to stand on the swing behind her. She sat up slightly to allow him some more leg room until he eased himself down on the swing, lifting Trixie up in his arms before placing her into his lap. Nudging his foot against the ground, the swing went rocking back and forth and she smiled when he bundled her up into his arms, kissing her on the cheek. "Something's bugging me." She murmured, "I don't know what it is."

"What?"

"...After you defeat Mundus, what will you do?"

"I dunno, what do you want to do?"

"Me? Oh. Um... Move away from Limbo City, I guess. Go to a new city, a new town."

"Then I'll move with you."

She grinned. "Really?"

"Yep."

"Remember I once said to you that you should get your own business? Did you ever think about it?"

He rubbed at his chin. "Now that you mention it, it's startin' to sound like a good idea."

Trixie laughed. "Oh, and the mission's today, right? Raptor News Network. Shouldn't you be going? Kat's waiting."

"Wanted to see you first." He murmured, and she chuckled as he squeezed her affectionately in his arms; she leaned over and kissed him tenderly on the lips.

"Be careful. Stay safe."

"Mm, I will. Don't want to leave you widowed at this age."

Trixie's eyes widened slightly but then her cheeks went red. "...Huh? W-what?" As she stammered and stuttered, her face went ten shades of red and Dante fumbled in his pockets and presented a blue box to her. She stared at it hard. "That's..."

"Open it."

Nodding, she fumbled with the box and opened it, eyes widening thoroughly. "Oh..."

Grinning, he said, "Like it?"

Her mouth opened, jaw going slack, then she turned to him in shock. "Dante..."

He laughed as she went flustered in his arms, glancing from the jewel to him and back again. "Alright, alright... you don't have to answer me right now." He gave her a tight squeeze, then promptly got off the swing to stand and Trixie was left gawping at him from her seat. "...But think about it, 'kay? See ya."

She stared at his retreating back silently until he turned to flash her a cheeky grin from over his shoulder. Her cheeks went even warmer than usual as she contemplated what he had just said. Did Dante just unofficially propose to me there? "Dante, wait!" She found herself crying out, pushing herself off the swing abruptly.

Dante halted in his tracks and turned round promptly.

"...Yes." Trixie blurted out, "The answer is yes."

...

Vergil was furious.

In his room, he let out a roar and swiped the contents of his desk off the surface and onto the floor. The only object remaining that had been conveniently been spared from his wrath was the silver locket he took from Beatrice that day and never gave back. The locket taunted him, mocked him, sneered at him.

"You..." He snarled, his hair had lost its place, flopping over his eyes messily as he panted heavily. "You knew all along, didn't you?! Damn you, Barachiel!"

She had been with Dante before I found her...

How could I have been such a fool?

Have I been played?

The entire time...?

His eyes went wide.

What is...what is this feeling?

A dark voice sneered at him from the corners of his mind.

It's defeat.

No, I can't lose. I never lose. I have never lost to anyone or anything once in my entire life.

But you've lost to Dante again.

First your mother, now Beatrice.

Is there anyone in this world who would prefer you over Dante?

Kat.

There's still Kat.

Are you sure?

Don't you think she's becoming quite close to Dante, too?

They go on missions together. I instructed her to.

You know that sooner or later, she'll like Dante more than you too.

It doesn't matter, Kat is just a human. Her opinions don't concern me.

That's not true.

Deep inside, you keep asking yourself: "Why am I so unlikable? What have I done to deserve this? What made Eva cherish Dante over me?"

What is it about him that make people flock to him and not me?

I have it all.

Fortune.

Power...

But still...

No! I cannot afford to lose to Dante! I am the eldest, the most powerful. Dante is a fool. He is immature, he is still a child. He doesn't understand!

But you lost.

You lost her.

She's returned to him.

She doesn't want anything to do with you anymore.

Your plans are ruined.

You didn't tell them, that the only reason you wanted Beatrice was to rebuild the Nephilim race.

But Beatrice would rather have offspring with Dante than you.

He's better than you.

He's better than you in every way...
