I do not own Doctor Who, Reba or Bones.
"Help! Help please!"
The woman's voice kept getting louder as they got closer. At last they saw what looked to a net up in the trees. A human-sized figure was struggling to get out of it.
Kyra was about to run up to the scene when the Doctor, hearing something coming up the trail, grabbed her and pulled her to the ground saying, "Get down."
Kyra was about to protest when she saw five figures step out. They were about as tall as the average human, but that's where the similarities ended. They were hairless with skin that looked like brown leather. Their heads were reminiscent to the cone heads, there almond-shaped eyes were completely black. No white, no iris, no pupil, all black.
"Cut it down," The leader of the group, who had a male voice, although they were all identical from where the spies were crouching.
One of them stepped forward and pulled out a small sliver device. A red laser beam came out of it, and the net fell to the ground, the woman inside screaming in surprise. She lifted her head up at her captors, but the Doctor and Kyra could only see her slight form and her brown hair, since they could only see her from the back. Two of the creatures pulled her out of the net. One of them kept hold of her wrists.
"Letta-" The leader began.
"It know, I know," The one that was apparently Letta said, pulling out a small buddle of black cord. She wrapped the cord around the woman's wrist.
"What are you?" The terrified woman asked, "What's going on?"
"What do you think she's saying?" Letta wondered aloud.
"Who cares?" The leader replied, "Just get the muzzle on it before someone hears it."
"What do they mean 'what do you think she's saying'?" Kyra asked in a whisper, watching them put a thick sliver device around the woman's head, covering her mouth, "They're speaking the same language."
"Uh, not really," The Doctor say, "They're speaking Bicorne, she's speaking plain English."
"Uh, no they're not," Kyra whispered, "I can hear them, they're speaking English."
"Oh," The Doctor, "That's the TARDIS' translation unit, it telepathically translates languages in your head. They're speaking in Bicorne."'
"Okay," Kyra said, somewhat unnerved by the news, "I'll ignore that for now."
"Hey, did you hear something?" Letta said, turning her head in the direction of their hiding spot.
"No," The leader snapped, losing all semblance of patience, "Just get it packaged an let's go."
One of them took more of the black cord from Letta and put it around the woman's ankles. It then picked her up and set her inside a cage made of white metal mess that had been hidden until now. Two of them picked it up by wooden poles that were attached to it and the group started off, with the captive woman trashing in the cage, trying to get out.
"Come on," The Doctor said grabbing Kyra's wrist and they rushed through the trees, following the group. "What do they want with her?" Kyra asked in a barely audible whisper.
"They're probably pet hopping," The Doctor said.
"What?" Kyra asked.
"Pet hopping," The Doctor repeated, "It's something Bicorne teenagers do when they're board. They nick a ship capable of space travel, go to the first planet they find, catch themselves an exotic pet, then sneak back onto the planet with it. The problem is, there's a big risk of them carrying exotic disease, or getting out and taking out the natural resources and species, or in this case, that their intelligent, sentient beings that you can't keep as pets, that's why it's illegal. It's basically their eqvuleint of taking out a mailbox with a baseball bat from a moving vehicle. They view it as harmless fun, but really is catastrophic and very harmful."
"Yeah, but a mailbox can be replaced, people can't," Kyra said, "That's lady probably got a family out there looking for her."
"Why do you think we're going to rescue her?" The Doctor said turning around to look at Kyra, "Come on, let's get going."
They crept through the forest, hidden by the trees and bushes, following the precession of junivnile delinquents and their helpless victim. It occurred to Kyra that if it weren't for the fact that the woman was tied up in a cage it would look like one of those queens being carried on a raised chair by her subjects. at last they came to a small clearing where a triangle shaped ship was waiting for them. The leader stepped forward then raised a small black remote and a hit a button on it. A ramp came down and they all walked up it, then the ramp closed behind them.
Kyra and the Doctor stepped out from their hiding spot. "Great," Kyra said, "Now what are we gonna do?"
"Don't worry," The Doctor said, taking out his sonic screwdriver and physic paper, "I have an idea."
Since so far the Doctor's ideas had worked out, Kyra decided to just go with it. Just then the engines started to rev up. "Okay, new, but slightly similar idea." The Doctor said then started running into the other direction. "Where are you going?!" Kyra demanded, running after him.
"Back to the TARDIS!" The Doctor said, "We'll get on the ship that way."
"That thing can't even get us back to Huston!" Kyra argued. She turned around and saw that engines had suddenly stopped.
"Don't worry," The Doctor said , stopping, "She'll get it right this time. Now, come on, time's of the essence."
Realizing the Doctor was right, Kyra renewed her pace. Soon they were back at the TARDIS. They ran inside and the Doctor started running around the TARDIS pulling levels, and pushing buttons and turning knobs. "Do me a favor," He said to Kyra, "Pull down on that lever, would ya?"
Kyra pulled a lever with a green knob on it. "Like this?"
"Yeah, just like that," The Doctor said, "Don't let up until I tell you to."
The Doctor pushed a few more buttons and said, "Now!"
Kyra let go and suddenly the whole place was shaking like an earthquake. It lasted for about two minutes then stopped. The Doctor pulled a thin piece of leather that looked like some kind of wallet and said, "Stay here, I'll be right back."
With that Doctor ran down the ramp and bushed through the door into the main control room of the ship, where, three of the teens were at the control panels, one was acting as a lookout to make sure no other ships saw them, and one more watching their acquired pet, although the cage she was in had been clamped to the floor. Now all eyes were on the Doctor.
With a very stern look on his face, the Doctor unclipped the physic paper, saying, "John Smith, Space Patrol. I traced a ship not typical of any planet in the area and traced it here."
They were silent for a moment then the leader sputtered out, "W-We didn't do anything wrong."
"Didn't do anything wrong?" The Doctor repeated in the form of a question, "The what is that there?" He pointed to the cage. "You kidnapped this woman, that doesn't seem wrong to you?" He then used the sonic screwdriver to lock the top of the cage. He then marched over to the cage with an air of authority that stopped the teens from interfering, picked the woman up and carried her back to the TARDIS doorway. Kyra ran down the ramp and took the woman from him. "Try to get the rope off her," The Doctor instructed, "I'll get muzzle off after I get finished giving these kids an earful."
The Doctor turned around and stared very sternly and intently at the group as he began, "I would like you to know, that you all are extremely lucky that I'm the one who caught you. If it was anyone else they would've arrested you on the spot, but I-am going to let you off with a warning, a very, very serious warning. That woman in there-is not a pet. She is sentient being with rights, and a family, and you had not right to take her against her will. Now, of you ever do anything like this again, me, or someone else will throw you into the deepest pit we can find and you will never see the light of day again, so you will not do it again, do I make myself clear?"
They group nodded, terrified.
"Good," The Doctor said, "Now, if you excuse me, I have to get that woman back home." And with that the Doctor turned around and marched back into the TARDIS.
The Doctor locked the door behind him in case they didn't learn their lesson and tried to follow then turned his attention to the woman. Kyra hand got the cord off of the woman's wrists and ankles, but the muzzle was still on her mouth.
"Right, let me get that off of you," The Doctor held the sonic up to the muzzle and it feel to the ground. The woman looked as if she was about to overload from the ordeal.
"That's better," The Doctor said, "Did they hurt you?"
The woman didn't say a word.
"I mean, other than kidnapping you, of course." The Doctor elaborated.
"Oh, no, I'm fine," The woman said, finding her voice at last "Am I hallucinating?"
"No," The Doctor said, "Sorry."
"This... this all impossible," The woman said, "There's, there's nothing that backs space travel like this even existing."
"Really?" Kyra said, "You were just abducted by aliens and nearly carried off to a far off planet and that's your issue?"
"I'm sure she was getting to all of that," The Doctor told Kyra then turned his attention back to the woman, "I'm sorry, now, this is Kyra, I'm the Doctor, and you are-"
"Temperance, Temperance Brenan," The woman said.
"Like the writer?" The Doctor asked.
"Yes," Temperance said, "Yes, that's-me. Although I didn't know I had fans in space."
"Can you blame me?" The Doctor replied, "Your books are brilliant! You get me every time! Well, most of time...well once, but it was very good once."
"Hey, Doc," Kyra said, "How about we take her home before we ask her for an autograph?" Though honestly Kyra was tempted to ask for one.
"Right," The Doctor said, coming back to the matter at hand, "Now, where exactly where you when this happened?"
"Wait, we were there and you don't know?!" Kyra exclaimed.
"Well, we got a little busy, didn't we?" The Doctor responded, "Now, Temperance, it's okay, if I call you Temperance, right?"
"Sure," Temperance said, thought now that she came to think of it hardly anyone called her Temperance.
"Can you tell me where you were?" The Doctor asked again, "So we can take you back."
"We at a wildlife park in Huston," Temperance said, "There was a dead body, the man had been only missing from two days but it was completely stripped of flesh, just bones."
The Doctor Kyra gave each other knowing but also disbelieving looks.
"What?" Temperance said, noticing something was up, "What's happening? What's important about that?"
"I was actually trying to get Kyra back to Huston," The Doctor said, "But when we wound up in the woods I thought I had missed the mark. Turns out I was pretty close. So, I get both of you home, in one ride, well more or less." He then pulled a lever and they started to move again.
"You would think space travel would be less bumpy!" Temperance shouted as she fell back on the pilot's bench.
"I know, right?!" Kyra called out, holding onto the console.
Once again, as suddenly as it started it stopped. "Just let me check to make sure we're at the right place this time," The Doctor said. He walked down the ramp and peaked through the door. A group of four people, two men and two women, staring at the TARDIS in various states of shock and surprise. "Temperance," The Doctor said, "Do me a favor and see if you know this lot out here."
Temperance walked over to the door and peaked out. Her face lit up and her bolted out the door. Instantly, the group ran up to her.
"Bones," A man with dark brown hair and matching eyes said, "Are you alright?"
"Where were you?" A woman with dark hair and high cheekbones asked.
"We've been looking all over," A darker-skin woman said.
"I'm fine," Temperance said, "Apparently I was abducted by aliens and then rescued by those two." She pointed over to the TARDIS where Kyra and the Doctor was standing in the doorway. They waved awkwardly.
The group waved back sheepishly, then turned back to Temperance. "Seriously, Bones, aliens?" The brown-eyed man said, "Since when do you believe in little green men?"
"Well, they weren't really little and green," Temperance said, "They were gangly and brown with cone-shaped heads. "
"Are they invading the planet?!" The other man, who had blue eyes and curly hair, exclaimed.
"I don't think so," Temperance said, "But remember when I theorized that aliens were friendly anthropologist?"
"Ah, Bones, I was the only one there for that," The brown-eyed man reminded her.
"Well, it turns out I was wrong, Booth, very, very wrong," Temperance said, "They are by no means friendly anthropologist."
"Well," The Doctor piped up, "Some of them are. And some of them are just juivnile delinquents. You just had the misfortune of meeting the latter."
Temperance turned around to look at the Doctor and Kyra, then looking between them and her friends said, "Guys, these are the Doctor and Kyra. Doctor, Kyra, this is my husband, Booth, and these are Angela, Cam, and Hoggins. We all work together."
"Nice to meet you all," The Doctor said.
"Wow," Kyra said, pointing at something on the grown," What the heck is that?!"
What Kyra was pointing at a skeleton on the ground. Temperance hasn't been kidding when she had the body had been stripped of flesh. The bones were completely bare, clean and white, like a one you'd seen in an anatomy class, except for the fact that its clothes were untouched, oddly enough.
"That," Booth explained, "Is Alexander Perkins. Or what's left o him at least. He was found by a couple of hikers."
"The really weird thing is, he only went missing two days ago," Hoggins said, "Not nearly enough time for the body to decompose like this."
"And the clothes should not be intact," Temperance added, the a thought occurred to her, "This doesn't have anything to do with the aliens, did it?"
"No," The Doctor said, "The Bicorne didn't do this. " Then he noticed something nearby on the ground. "Wait a second," He said, and walked over to a nearby tree. It was a small but thick leather book. The Doctor picked it up, and saw that writing was in fact, Bicorne. "What the-" He began when he saw a shadow move nearby. "Alright, we need to get out of here, now."
"Why?" Angela asked.
"Because I think I know what did this." The Doctor answered.
