Eyes were wide with awe and wonder. Sahara nor Hellboy nor Abe have ever seen such a thing as this. Within, there were hundreds of creatures roaming around, browsing, building, selling, demonstrating, and working with one another and to one another. Hidden faced cloaked creatures sulked by in a line, beasts and surly entities carried alien glowing objects on their shoulders. Skulls, foods, and weird underworld merchandise were strung up and displayed for selling. It much resembled flea markets and the black markets the human world had. And to her amazement, Sahara's mouth dropped open with a gasp as she saw Tooth Fairies flying free and peacefully in the open public. Smoke and the beautiful off reddish lighting and fuzzed out TV screens gave the atmosphere to what is the Troll Market.
The crew filed in, blending in easily and silently. Sahara felt a strong sense of belonging here; a peace and freedom that she never thought existed, a hope. The team walked along in pursuit to find any helpful information on the royal seal. Abe had approached a rather fat fish creature who was blindly slapping a fish onto the slab to chop it's head off. His face was disgusted and Sahara had to laugh at that.
Following along on her own merry way a swarm of tooth fairies and faes circled around her. She felt her stomach drop and the fear of the pain of dying surrounded her much as they did. However their intentions were much more lighthearted: the music began to pick up and they started to dance around her, prompting her to dance along with them. Laughing with glee she joined right in and did a few jigs and wild moves.
Coming from scolding Hellboy in talking with Liz over the communications, Johann approached Sahara as she danced; well unaware to who stood watching.
Johann, "Agent Savannah!"
She abruptly froze in place and looked to him with a startled look on her face. The fairies and faes stopped as well, angered at who interrupted their fun.
Johann, "Need I remind you that you're working and zat zere's no time to fool off!"
Sahara, "I'm s-sorry Dr. Krauss."
The tooth fairies and faes whizzed by his head sticking their tongues out and swearing at him in their own language. She giggled at this, trying to contain her amusement in front of her boss. He waved them away, swearing a bit in German and said,
Johann, "Apology accepted, just be more alert my dame."
He gave a slight bow and left her to continue the search.
She was on her own now, exploring and quite lost in this wondrous new world that was hidden within the world she was currently hid within.
Walking by, a furry looking shop owner grabbed hold of her and began speaking to her in a language she had no clue in how to comprehend.
Sahara, "I'm very sorry, I'm not from around here. I can't understand you."
He turned her to the table he had and made gestures that showed off his merchandise.
Sahara, "Uh…well these look all so very nice….ah!"
Severed eyeballs and fresh bones had caught her eye causing her to gasp. Though upon further searching the table a glittering fish scale caught her eye. It glowed a bright blue and shined with a rainbow sheen.
Sahara, "What is this?"
The seller began to explain but she couldn't understand so she stopped him and asked,
"How much?"
Walking away gleefully, she cradled the prized scale in her hand. It gave off a strong vibe that kept her thoughts on Abe. Deciding that she'll look up the backstory on it later, she packed it away into her pocket. Sighing dreamily and gazing around she smiled and thought that it be best that she at least tried to get some information.
…
During this space of time Abe had located the princess and Hellboy was getting in a rumble with Mr. Wink. Meanwhile Sahara was busy, chatting with her new friend, a tooth fairy.
Sahara, "Yeah so I had this friend once and he would not take care of his teeth! And after awhile I noticed his smile and it was so foul, I mean yellow and green colored, rotten foul! Like every single tooth was cavity riddled."
She was leaned up against the end of a wall with a stack of cases and cages to her right. She was fiddling with some type of candy that she had bought. The stack came up to her upper arm and the tooth fairy was standing on top of them, listening intently to her story. It made little sounds here and there as she went along, thoroughly engaged.
Sahara, "So one day I said to him 'C'mon buddy, get your teeth fixed!'. And do you know what happened the next day? All of his teeth fell out of his head."
The Tooth fairy made a low sound as if he sympathized with the guy.
Sahara, "Sad for him but it works out well for you, ay my friend?"
She gave him a little smack with the back of her hand on his shoulder but it turned out to be his whole body, causing him to stumble back a bit.
Suddenly Hellboy came crashing through a stone arch way that was in front of her and landed into a pile of bones right behind her.
Sahara, "Well that's my cue, nice talking with ya!"
At that the fairy flew off and she came off the wall and around to take a good look at Hellboy and ongoing the fight.
Hellboy, "Now stay down!"
He got off of him and walked off.
Sahara, "Red are you ok?"
Moving his in pain jaw he reaching in an pulled out a tooth,
"Damn."
Turning around at Mr. Wink who was now standing he said,
"A tooth, happy?" He pitched it at Wink's face.
Mr. Wink was talking aloud in an inaudible language, as if pondering to himself whether or not to smash Hellboy in the face and send him into the metal spiked rock grinder behind him.
Hellboy chewing on a cuban replied, "Give it up pal, it's over."
Wink pulled his fist back still babbling, ready to strike.
He lit his cigar, "I wouldn't do that if I were you."
He pondered again and said what sounded like a 'no' and thrust his retractible iron fist at Hellboy. Stepping aside swiftly, he moved so Wink's hand got caught within the metal grinder. Sahara gasped in the rush of things.
Being pulled forward by the attachment, Hellboy pressed on the chain and taunted,
"Wow, told ya!" Giving a stagnant shrug with his arms.
Being flown forward Wink went head long into the grinder, Hellboy just winced and turned away nonchalantly. Looking to Sahara her mouth was gaping and her eyes were tearing up at the horror she just witnessed. Johann then stepped up with Abe and a white haired woman.
"My-, what have you done Agent Hellboy? Look at this, now we have to leave!"
Abe stepped forward introducing the woman, "Red, this is Princess Nuala."
Hellboy, "Lady."
Johann, "We should leave now, now!"
Hellboy, "Let's go."
The crew turned and left; Abe turning around fixated with the princess, completely forgetting about Sahara. Her face was amazed, the pain playing clearly in her eyes as she watched what might be her whole world come crashing down. She saw it, something was there, that something she so desperately desired to see in his eyes was there, but not for her.
Coming back Johann came to her side, "Did you hear Agent Savannah? We must leave now!"
The sense of urgency was highly evident in his voice. She only nodded at his order.
He put his hand on her shoulder, "Are you alright Ms. Savannah?"
Sahara, "Yeah."
With that she walked out trailed by Johann.
Exiting out of the Market to be brought back into the cow butchery they had no idea that word spread throughout the Market that Wink was dead to have it reach the ears of his partner; such a ruthless foe that even his own sister is so desperate to evade him.
Nuala removed a piece of gold from her dress, "To wage his war my brother needs this." She showed it to Hellboy, "The final piece to the crown of Bethmoora. And this map to the location of the Golden Army chamber."
She indicated the cylinder that housed the map in which Abe was holding, looking down on it as she spoke.
Johann touched the end and said, "The Golden Army! The harbingers of death! The unstoppable tide."
Sahara would normally be intent and enthralled by this entire ordeal but her heart was already at bust.
Johann, "You're highness if you hand ze crown piece over to us-"
Nuala, "No, where it goes, I go. My father died to uphold the truce with your world, you must honor his noble intentions."
Abe, "The lady is in dire danger."
Johann, "I take it zat you're vouching for her Agent Sapien?"
Abe, "Most emphatically, yes, I am."
Johann, "Even so I am sorry but we simply can not assume such responsibility on our own!" He began to walk away.
Sahara's disbelief instantly grew at the sound of Abe blindly taking the side of a woman he just met. Though she even disagreed with Johann's cold protest in abandoning her.
She shouted after him, "Johann really?"
Hellboy followed, "The lady just lost her father what more do you want?"
Johann stopped, "Ugh! You may not care but there are procedures, rules and little hand books zat-"
Hellboy blew smoke in his face, "She's coming with us, you got that Gasbag?"
Johann, "What did you call me?"
"You! You will pay for what happened to my friend down there."
Princess Nuala's twin brother appeared behind the group.
"Yeah right." Hellboy took out his gun, "You take checks?"
"Demon, born from a womb of shadows sent to destroy their world and you still believe you belong?"
"Are we gonna talk all night because I'm really sleepy."
"Heh." The prince reached into his pocket and pulled out a golden egg.
Nuala, "No brother no!"
The top portion opened up in a lateral unhinging. Exposed within was a green glowing bean.
Nuada put the bean to his lips and whispered, "Kill him."
He then threw it forward and it fell to the ground past Hellboy. It began jumping around crazily.
Hellboy, "It's just a jumping bean!"
Nuala, "It's going for water!" She turned to Abe, "Hurry!"
Like dog on a command Abe stumbled after it, clumsily trying to grab at the object. However the unfortunate part was that it reached a grate in the ground and fell through it into a well of water.
Abe, "No no, no no no no no!"
'Never send a fish to do a cat's job', Sahara thought as she crossed her arms.
Suddenly, underground, an earthquake sounded shaking the entire city stopping cars and causing everyone to come out of buildings. Hellboy wandered into the middle of the street, trying to make sense of it…And like, that it stopped; but never turn your back on something so mysterious as that! For right behind Hellboy giant tentacles burst through the asphalt from underneath. A Small mountain of cars and road were brought upward and thrust away, landing onto other cars and possibly people. Turning around he saw a giant and still growing green tentacled creature. Unfurling itself the body had green, leafy shrubbery on its chest and arms with roots at the end of its tentacles.
Nuala, "It's an Elemental, a giver of life and the destroyer."
Hellboy, "Huh?"
Nuala, "A forest god."
Hellboy, "A forest god eh? I'ma gonna get me Big Baby."
He walked to the station and loaded his 'Big Baby', as written in white paint on the side.
Sahara, "Can ya handle this Ruby Monkey? Do you want some assistance?"
He gave her a look and a laugh, "I love ya Kitten. In the most dramatic situations you still know how to make me laugh. Go and stay with Abe, keep the princess safe."
Breaking in was a desperate cry of a woman screaming about her baby. Approaching her he saw that she was panicking over the locked car she stood in front of with her baby trapped inside. As he asked what was wrong her face was horrified at the sight of him and Johann didn't make it any better nor did Abe and Sahara. It seemed to have made her feel trapped; surrounded by a carny act gone wrong. With a look Liz stepped forward to comfort her.
Hellboy had wrenched the door from the car and gently grabbed the baby, completely unfazed by the slamming down of a large rooted arm that would've killed the baby within second of being broken free.
Now everyone was running, screaming and panicking. Hellboy took pursuit in trying to escaped the murderous intentions of the forest god, running alongside everyone else.
Running along the sidelines were the rest of the team. Johann still finding it appropriate to shout out orders.
"Agent Hellboy! Reach higher ground and shoot ze weapon! Shoot ze weapon!"
With that the green tentacle came crashing down on the car he was stopped on and sent him flying with the baby still within his arms.
Watching on in horror Sahara was crouched down behind Johann off to the right shoulder of Liz and Abe and Nuala. She gazed at Hellboy pulling an 'Indiana Jones' as he landed atop a letter block sign. Though completely enthralled at Hellboy, a chunk of metal came thundering toward her before she could make a move. She braced herself for sudden death, however Johann, with the help of his metal tipped fingers, touched the bottom of the projectile and sent it higher above them all; causing it to crash just beyond them, all in one swift, continuous motion. It much resembled the act of throwing a piazza into the air.
Johann, "Are you alright Agent Savannah?" He said turning to her momentarily concerned.
All she could do was nod, but then,
"Look out!"
A compact SUV rolled toward them.
Sahara took Johann with both hands and spun him around and out of the away along with herself. Liz had used fire to deflect the oncoming car away from their proximity as Abe made sure that the princess was safely guarded behind him. Grasping onto her forearms Johann had the pantomime look of slight disorientation, though, the sight of Hellboy's form as he hurriedly climbed the sign that said 'HOTEL' jutting out vertically from a building brought him out of it and he stepped forward to yell,
"You must shoot it in ze energy ganglion."
He had a confused look, "What?".
"Ze energy ganglion!"
He still wore a dumb look.
"Go for ze head! Shoot it in ze head!"
Then horrifically the 'H' he was perched on began to come loose, shaking Hellboy, threatening to submit to gravity.
Alone in the middle of a cornered square of battered cars stood Johann. The creature turned his attention to him momentarily, throwing the cars near his body, threatening to kill him.
Sahara was deathly frightened for him. He could get himself killed!…Wait a minute he's completely made out of ectoplasm, he'll be fine!
A swipe was made at Hellboy and he jumped over it landing back down on the dangling sign. Then in frozen terror they saw him throw the baby in the air so he could reload his gun. Yet in the nick of time he outstretched his rock arm and opened his palm to catch the baby. He then made a shot at the right side of the monster's chest, causing it to bleed green blood. Wrinkling her nose in disgust at the flying blood, it quickly turned into moss upon contact causing her disgust to change into wonder. The creature began to move back and fall against a building on the other side of the street; having roots and vines attach themselves to the face of it.
Johann, "Agent Hellboy, take ze shot! Right now! Take it, that's an order! Take ze shot that's an order Agent Hellboy! Shoot it! Shoot ze gun! Shoot ze gun!"
Amidst his desperate cries Hellboy was still, having the gun raised to fire but never firing. He looked to be talking with someone, fighting something that resonated within him.
"Why doesn't he do it?" Sahara said.
The creature began to disentangle itself from the building. Johann still was clearly heard screaming in the background.
"Shoot it, it's getting loose!"
More hesitation.
"Zat's an order Agent Hellboy!"
Suddenly the 'H' gave way again causing him to jolt out of his stupor.
Johann, "Shoot it!"
The creature came forward with a scream causing Hellboy to fire and shoot it directly through the glowing orb that served as its brain.
The green blood flew everywhere, gushing out and pouring out as if there was no tomorrow; and frankly there wasn't for this dying forest god. As it spilled the blood created a mossy look upon this entire section of the city. It lay there dying, oozing out green life. As the moss fell flowers and plant-life began to grow. The head began to unfold to reveal a transformed, beautiful green flower. White fluffy seeds were then released into the air, floating down like snow.
Abe, "It's, beautiful."
Nuala caught one within her fingers. Liz and Sahara shared a look of awe on their faces. She prowled on all fours taking in the soft feel the moss gave. Looking over to Abe her face fell as she saw his eyes too were alight with awe and desire but his gaze was at the princess. Looking downward tears were beginning to form.
The crowds were taking shape, cautiously approaching the scene. Police and officials were inspecting the area, doing their best to keep the people back. Hellboy made his way down and walked through the public, baby still safe in his arms. The mother ran to him and said,
"What have you done to my baby?" As she takes him.
Hellboy, "Baby's fine."
The crowds were becoming angry and hateful. Shouting out 'freak!', holding bats and weapons in threat to bash Hellboy.
"The baby's fine."
The police trained their guns on him having multiple of them scream orders at him,
"Don't move!"
"Hands in the air!"
Flashes from the paparazzi were everywhere, blinding everyone in their wake.
"He's got a weapon in his hand."
Liz, "That is his hand!"
She stepped forward to reach her lover.
"Miss, stay away from him, for your own safety!"
Liz, "He was trying to help don't you see? He was just trying to help! That's all we do that's all we've done all these years, we're just trying to help you. You!"
She had turned to him and slid her hand into his rock one. Then amidst the rising hate someone threw a rock at his face slicing his cheek open. This then made liz to rage within, causing her body to go up in flames. She gazed dangerously at them all, forcing everyone to hush and step back in fear.
He put his rock hand on her shoulder, "Liz, let's go home."
He turned his back and left.
