Jack POV
I looked over at Shine, just inches away from me. Her hair whipped around her head from the wind caused by the golden tornado. She let out a ringing laugh, reaching out. Her fingers brushed against the golden sand and some burst away from the tornado, swirling around her head.
I couldn't stop the tiny smile that pulled on my lips. She giggled as the rope of sand twirled around her, running through her hair and between her fingers. She spun in a circle, the sand trail winding around her body, then around her head. I could see its swirling reflection in her giant red eyes.
And there was that feeling again! My stomach clenched, my cheeks heated up, I smiled so hard it hurt. What is happening to me?
"You have to try this, Frosty!" she gasped between laughs.
I reached out into the tornado as well. Once again a trail of sand escaped the swirling mass of gold and started to swirl around me. Tension left my shoulders and I couldn't help but laugh. Not the painful, psychotic laughing from Fear. Real, genuine laughs. As the trail swirled around me, all my cares went away, leaving nothing but happiness.
The wind started to pick up inside the tornado, and both Shine and I's trails of sand burst apart, being sucked back into the tornado.
"AHHHH!" I yelled as the wind suddenly broke free and I fell to the ground. I gasped in pain. A crash from behind me told me that Shine had fallen as well. I sat up and rubbed my stinging lower back.
"Jack, Shine! Are you alright?" Jamie rushed over to me worriedly. I grinned and nodded.
"I'm fine."
"As I'm I," Shine's British, hoarse, muffled, strained, and slightly pained voice came from inside the bush she fell inside. Her head popped out, leaves and twigs poking out of her big blonde curls. I covered my mouth and snorted at the sight. She bared her teeth and growled, the leaves and twigs in her hair falling to the ground as ashes. She stepped out of the bush, the bottom of it starting to smoke. "Whatever, Frostbite," she hissed as the golden sand swirled around her again, before flying away and swirling around me.
I batted it away and it flew to the middle of the clearing, swirling into a tornado again. Shine crawled towards it, and it suddenly exploded, revealing a person.
Shine and I gasped in unison. Caught by surprise, I stumbled around, losing my balance and falling to my knees.
"It's...not possible..." Shine muttered, her fingers running through her hair.
"I thought...I thought..." I could barely speak. The kids slowly moved towards the man.
Slowly, grins spread across Shine and I's faces.
"No WAY!" Jamie yelled. "The SANDMAN!"
The Guardians soon realized that it was a lot easier to fight of the Nightmares. In fact...a little TOO easier.
North took a few steps back to study the area. "Where's Jack? And Shine?"
"And the ankle-biters?" Bunny added on.
"And...PITCH?" Tooth's voice was filled with worry.
"How could we 'ave let them get AWAY!" North threw his hands up and groaned.
"We were too focused on the Nightmares, mate," Bunny shrugged, leaning back on his haunches.
"W-We need to find them! W-What if they're d-dead? Or WORSE?!" Tooth flitted around. "Do you think Pitch got them?"
"Or they got Pitch," North contradicted, trying to stay positive. "This is Jack and Shine we're talking about! They can handle themselves."
"And the kids?" Bunny questioned.
"Jamie's a tough little boy, but I doubt he can stand up to Pitch," Tooth said. "Oh, I hope they're with Jack and Shine. They'd at least be some protection for them."
"We should go and look for them," North said, shoving his two swords back into their sheaths.
"Look for their dead bodies..." Tooth whispered.
"Jeez, Negative Nancy, lighten up," Bunny scoffed. "I'm sure they're fine."
"Yeah. Yeah," Tooth wrung her hands together with worry. "I-I'm sure they're perfectly okay." Baby Teeth flit around her head, squeaking with worry.
"Where could they 'ave gone?" Bunny asked North, who was staring at the sky above the forest. Bunny followed his gaze. There was an explosion of golden sand and two figures fell out of the sky.
"Probably...there," North pointed at where they once were.
Pitch stood in the emptiness that was Fear, snarling. "Those...those...BRATS!" he yelled, his voice echoed throughout the empty land. Scattered across his perfect ground were grains of golden dream sand. He crouched down and lifted some into the palm of his hand.
He hissed at the sand and let it fall back to the ground. "How...how could they have escaped?!" He let out an earth-shaking roar, and Fear dissolved. He was back on top of a building, back on Earth. His Nightmares, along with the Guardians, were gone. He panted, glaring around at the town. Then, he looked up at the moon and growled.
"YOU!" he screamed, thrusting his finger into the air, angrily pointing at the moon. "THIS IS YOUR FAULT! I GAVE YOU A CHANCE, ALL THOSE YEARS AGO, TO JOIN ME IN A WORLD OF ETERNAL DARKNESS! BUT YOU HAD TO GO AND PROTECT YOUR BROTHER! YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT YOUR PRECIOUS SUN! YOU DISGUST ME! A BEING OF THE NIGHT, YOU'RE A TRAITOR!"
Pitch stumbled backwards, gasping for breath. He let his hand fall back to his side. "But I'll show you," he whispered. "If it's the sun that's getting in my way, I suppose I'll just have to get rid of him, eh?"
He chuckled breathlessly, lifting his hand and clenched his fist in front of the moon, as if holding it in his own hand. "Then you'll be mine. My one true goal, my wish, my desire. The whole reason for this. We'll rule this world with Jack Frost at our side. The Guardians will be dead, Shine will be sobbing for her fallen father, and the three Beings of Darkness with take what is rightfully ours." An evil grin spread across his face.
"Let the reign of the Beings of Darkness begin."
What are the Beings of Darkness? What is Pitch's plan? WHAT WILL HAPPEN?!
