Rewriting the Scrolls

Epilogue

By Jinxie

"Moms! Wait up!" I yell as I try desperately to catch up to my parents. They don't ever seem to remember that I'm still quite small.

"Hurry up, kiddo!" my mom hollers back to me from higher on the mountain trail.

I struggle over a few rocks, but I'm just like both of my parents. I have strong legs and steady feet. I also have their spirit for adventure.

"When are we going to be there? I want to see Grandma."

My mother chimes in this time, "When you catch up to us." She always teases me like that. Everyone says I look just like her; blue eyes, brown hair, and long legs. However, she says I look like my mom. But she only says that when I laugh.

"Gabrielle, are you going to carry him now?"

My mom laughs, "No! He's too big to carry. Aren't ya?" She looks down at me once I finally reach them.

"I'm big, yes. But I need a horse."

They both laugh at this. My parents think I'm funny, for some reason. I can't fathom why. None of the kids my age that I've met think I'm funny. Maybe it's because they are scared of my parents.

We've been traveling since I can remember. Mother said she use to carry me on a backpack that she made. Once I could sit up and stay up, they put me on Argo. Sadly, Argo died last winter, so I have been walking everywhere since then.

We really don't have a home, like most people. It doesn't bother me though; I love to meet new people all the time. Mom says I'm lucky to see all the things that I've seen; which is pretty much all of Greece and Rome.

We are just returning from Rome, actually. Because of my begging, our first stop is going to be Amphipolis, where my parents grew up. I can't wait to see my grandma and uncle Toris.

Most of all, I can't wait to see my best friend, Io. She is awesome.

"Solan, hurry up!" They yell in unison.

"I'm coming!" Crap, mother caught me daydreaming again.
