Hola! I'm back! Thanks for the reviews! I hope you enjoy this chapter after such a long wait :)
"You did great!"
"But I lost…"
"So?" Zoey flashed Antonio her usual soft smile. The other samurai simply shrugged. "No guy has ever went through such lengths to impress me. It's rather…cute."
"Watch out for the squirrel over there." Antonio told her as she drove onto the dirt road that lead to the Shiba House. He sighed. "I have a confession to make."
"You just learned how to swim in a week?" Zoey parked her car and looked at Antonio, whose eyes were wide open in shock.
"What…how…?
"I go to the same gym." Zoey leaned into her seat and crossed her arms. She kept her eyes focused on her stripping toenail polish. "And…don't tell him I told you…but Kevin also ratted you out. I saw you two by the pool just a few days ago when I walked in for my usual workout. I was going to say hi but you left before I could… Yeah, Kevin's a horrible liar."
Antonio nodded. "I'm sorry…"
"Don't be sorry. What you did was so, so sweet. There's no need to be ashamed of yourself…well, maybe for the lying part."
"Speaking of lying and secrets… we need to talk." Antonio gave her a serious look. "Do you mind going for a walk?"
Zoey shook her head and followed her date down the path to the lake. They were quiet at first, walking aimlessly until they found a nearby bench with the Shiba emblem on it. Zoey sat down a little shakily. She had no idea what Antonio would want to talk about that seemed so serious. Antonio wasn't a serious guy. Maybe he wanted to stay friends? Was that it? Zoey couldn't bear to think of it. She really liked him and they have only just started, especially since they both admitted to not dating in years.
"Remember that day you asked me to fix a bug on your website?"
"Yeah?" Zoey arched her eyebrows at the random question. That was weeks ago. She didn't even remember until he asked.
"I did some quick browsing on it and ended up on your autobiography."
"Oh…OH…Uh, did you like what you read?"
The gold samurai chuckled. "You're a very interesting person. I read how you were born in California and traveled to Japan a lot as a child. You went to Stanford University, great school by the way. I never went to college. I also read how you and Jenni moved here and built your own little modern cottage."
"Are you mad I never told you those things? I'm sorry! I'm such an antisocial, reserved…"
"Zoey, calm down. Don't be ridiculous." Antonio placed a strong hand on her shoulder. "We just started. I haven't even told you how I met Jayden."
"Sorry…"
"Don't be sorry." He winked at her. "What I'm about to tell you is my fault. I don't need an explanation. I just really need to get this off my chest."
"Okay."
"I know about your ex-boyfriend and how he treated you." Antonio looked at Zoey. Her facial expression showed no change in emotion. She just listened. "Normally, I would be jealous. But I'm not. I hear about domestic violence in relationships all the time. I just never knew I would know…"
"A victim."
"No… I mean…"
"Call me a victim or not, it happened. The man I loved slapped me." Zoey's voice cracked as she played with a loose tread on her sweater. "He opened wounds I never knew I had."
"You don't need to tell me."
"And I'm not." Zoey looked in his eyes. "Not yet. It's none of your business. Though, to be honest, I'm kind of glad you know."
"If I ever do anything to make you feel uncomfortable, please tell me. I want this relationship to work. I mean, our friends are getting married and having kids. Where the hell has time gone?"
Zoey giggled. "I hope we're together forever. If we aren't, then I hope you find another special girl and we stay friends."
Before they realized it, they were kissing like there was no tomorrow.
"Okay, enough of the sentimental crap." Antonio grinned and stood up. "Hungry? Race you to the lake!"
"Hey! That's no fair! You know you're faster than me!"
"So… you want to be a crazy people doctor?" Mike asked Emily on the phone.
He was at work, but not at his usual work station. He was at Mr. Thompson's theatre with Chad and their dance students. If there was one thing Mike could say about Evany's father, it would be that he knows what he wants. He just called at last minute and expected him, his son, and their students at the theatre on time without a complaint.
Right now, Chad was getting everyone in a random position that Mike was pretty certain wouldn't work. Everything today was just dysfunctional. They didn't even have a routine ready.
"They just have problems, honey." Mike mocked his wife in a high-pitched voice. "Okay, I'm done. You know I support you, babe. Whatever you want, I'll help you… no need to make fun of my grades…"
"Chaddy!"
Mike's eyes nearly popped out of his head when he saw who the voice belonged too. It was Jenni... and she was asking for Chad. He watched as Jenni wrapped her arms around him and kiss his lips. Obviously, this shocked him. Small world?
"Emily? Can I call you back?" He got up from the theatre chair and made his way over to them. He trusted Jenni enough to not cheat on Jayden but he couldn't be too safe. Jayden has been his friend for years, he just met Jenni last month.
"Mike, I can't see from here!" Evany whined. The samurai laughed at Evany poking her head behind a six feet boy in front.
"Then, move down stage."
"But my moron brother put me here."
"So? This is my concert too. Switch places with Jack."
"This is irritating." Evany moped her feet to the very top of the stage.
"Don't be annoying, Evany. I don't want to be here either." When Mike was satisfied with Evany's new position, he smirked Jenni's way when she saw him. Her mouth dropped.
"Oh… hi, Mike." Jenni faked a smile. Her cheek were slowly turning red. "I didn't know you worked with Chad now. How are you?"
"Okay." Mike nodded. "You guys friends?"
"Yeah, really close friends from college."
"That's nice. I haven't seen Jay in a while. How is he? Still worrying about Lauren?"
"He's, um, okay. Well, I see you boys are busy. I'll see you later Chad."
"Bye sweetie." Chad gave Jenni another hug. Over his shoulder, Jenni mouthed, "Shut up!" at Mike. The ranger just simply shrugged. His expression showed no emotion, but Jenni could tell he was serious.
"Bye, Mike." She said aggravated. She silently prayed he wouldn't tell Jayden and left.
Mike watched her leave. He's never been in this type of situation. What was he going to tell Jayden? No. How was he going to tell Jayden someone he had feelings for was already cheating? And not just with any guy, but with his coworker. Would Jayden believe him? Mike isn't exactly the type for such drama. He dated a couple girls in high school and well, cheated. But he's a married man now and very sincere about it. He would never cheat on Emily. He shook his head and looked back at is bored dancers.
"Hey man, who's Jay?" Chad asked him.
"A really close friend."
Oh snap! Jenni is going to get it! Or is she not? What do you think is going to happen? Hm… I hoped you enjoyed this short chapter. I posted a one-shot called Scars to Protect You. Please check it out. There has been a request for a Memily one-shot. I have an idea so we'll see.
