Kurt felt himself wake up slowly, the amount of light making him wonder if he'd left his curtains open before going to bed. He shifted, sighing. He didn't want to get up and close them. But slowly he realized the pillow he was cuddled with was really warm...and breathing. Confused, he cracked one eye open to see a mop of curls and a sleeping face that made him smile, remembering last night.
He'd stayed at Dalton when his car didn't start. He'd slept cuddled in Blaine's arms. He felt his face heating up at that, hiding his face for a moment as he let it settle over him. This was the last thing he'd expected when he agreed over the phone to work with Nick to surprise Blaine. But he couldn't say he was complaining. It was warm and comfortable, even if he was sure his hair was probably a mess and his mouth still tasted faintly of cheese pizza.
Part of him contemplated getting up and freshening up in the bathroom a little, but that seemed so corny he couldn't bring himself to move right away. When he finally did though, Blaine shifted, giving a sleepy mumble and rolling until he was half pinning Kurt under him who let out an amused giggle. Blaine slowly cracked one eye open at the sound, seeing Kurt's face.
"Hi." he murmured, voice heavy with sleep.
"Hi." Kurt swallowed.
It took him a few seconds, but Blaine seemed to realize why Kurt looked so amused and looked apologetic as he shifted, freeing him from being under him. Kurt chuckled and shifted, laying on his side facing Blaine who mimicked him.
"Sorry." he cleared his throat.
"It's okay." Kurt snickered.
"What time is it?" Blaine asked.
Kurt shifted, looking at the clock on the dresser. "Almost eight thirty."
"Mm, coffee." Blaine mumbled.
"Agreed." Kurt said, sitting up. "I'm just going to use your bathroom real quick."
Blaine nodded, rubbing his eyes, trying to wake himself up as Kurt climbed out of bed and padded into the bathroom. He looked over at his roommate's bed, seeing Nick and Jeff still fast asleep. On the weekends it wasn't uncommon for most of the people Blaine knew to sleep in. Normally he was rewarded by waking up at least an hour before them and getting a little bit of quiet time in.
He ran a hand through his hair, feeling the mess with a sigh. When Kurt was done in the bathroom they traded places, Blaine promising to lead him to the kitchen to make them both coffee once he was out. Kurt sat on the edge of the bed quietly, not trying to wake Jeff or Nick. He looked at his clothes, wondering if he should ask his dad to bring a change of clothes. Then he thought of what his dad might pick and shuddered. He'd figure something out.
True to his word, once Blaine came back out of the bathroom, hair re-tamed much to Kurt's amusement, he picked up his ID and phone and lead the way back down to the first floor where along with a little more than a dozen dorm rooms there was a large lobby, a kitchen, and a small library. Kurt sat down on one of the stools and watched at Blaine coaxed the coffee machine to life and looked around for some kind of breakfast.
"How does fruit and yogurt sound?" Blaine offered.
"Sounds good after all that pizza yesterday." Kurt grinned, making Blaine chuckle.
He found two bowls and scooped out some yogurt in both while Kurt rinsed off some strawberries and grapes. Blaine found a couple of still good bananas and chopped them up, putting them in a small bowl to add to the yogurt if they wanted.
It was nice, comfortable even. They didn't talk much as they ate and drank their coffee, letting the caffeine perk them up. Kurt looked around. Just like everywhere else, things were sophisticated. The appliances in the kitchen were as nice as one could get without going to an upscale restaurant. Blaine watched Kurt in amusement as he seemed to survey and make notes of the place. It was interesting seeing him acquaint himself with a new space.
"What time is your dad supposed to be here?" Blaine finally asked.
"He said he'd aim to be here about noon, and that he'd call when he was almost here." Kurt said.
Blaine nodded, so they had a few hours to kill, that seemed nice. He didn't know how to feel about meeting Kurt's dad. He was sure the man was kind, and he clearly put a lot of trust in Kurt. But it was still his dad, and he was always a little nervous meeting people's parents. He wanted Mr. Hummel to approve of him, at least as a friend.
"We should probably wake them up. I know Nick has an essay he hasn't finished and if he sleeps in too late, he doesn't like to be productive the rest of the day." Blaine suggested.
"Okay." Kurt chuckled, gathering his dishes and rinsed them off before sticking them in the dishwasher.
He was half curious to know how the system of cleaning and everything worked, but he didn't ask out loud. It seemed like a silly thing to wonder about, following Blaine back upstairs to his room. Maybe they had a chore system, or someone who came in.
"I can see why you like this place." Kurt mused a loud.
"Yeah?" Blaine looked over at him.
"Yeah." Kurt said. "It feels...safe."
Blaine looked sympathetic at his words, giving a small nod. He remembered the first time he realized that feeling about this place. In comparison to his public school days, this place had opened up under him like a haven. He was sorry that Kurt could feel it to, but not have the luxury of staying.
"You're welcome to visit, whenever. I mean, it's not a short trek, but you know we'll always make a space in movie night for you." Blaine said, earning a shy but grateful smile from Kurt.
"I know." Kurt nodded.
Nick and Jeff were still asleep as they walked in, making Blaine smile and shake his head. He walked over to the side of the bed Nick was on, gently shaking his shoulder.
"Come on and wake up." he said.
Nick groaned and stirred, letting out a deep sigh.
"Time is it?" he asked.
"A little after nine." Blaine said.
"Ugh." Nick groaned, turning back to cuddle Jeff who stirred slightly.
"If you sleep in, Kurt will be gone before you spend any real time with him." Blaine said, grinning at Kurt.
"Kurt?" Jeff cracked his eyes open, making Kurt chuckle.
"Morning, Jeff." he said.
"Good morning, Kurt." Jeff gave him a sleepy smile. "What time is your dad coming?"
"Noon." Kurt said.
"Mmk. Nicky, we should wake up." Jeff mumbled, nuzzling his boyfriend.
"Traitor." Nick sighed, but smiled, opening his eyes.
"The kitchen downstairs has been restocked, and there's coffee. Wake up and go get something to eat before everyone else is up and about." Blaine suggested.
Kurt watched in amusement as the two boys staggered out of bed, taking turns into the bathroom before slipping downstairs. He sat on Blaine's bed, turning his attention to the other boy.
"So what should we do for three hours?" he asked.
"Well, we could watch a movie or something. We could walk around if you want to see more of Dalton. There isn't a whole lot to do on a Saturday morning if it's not laundry or errands, and I don't know if you want to be out and about in sweatpants." Blaine grinned at the last part.
"Definitely not." Kurt said, pulling a face that made Blaine laugh.
"You can borrow them, if you want. So you don't have to pull a morning after and leave in a tux." Blaine teased, winking.
Kurt laughed, fiddling with the fabric of the pants. "The girls are going to give me so much trouble for this. They'll say it was a sign."
"That's probably what Jeff would say too." Blaine chuckled.
"It was fun. I'm glad I got to hang out with you guys. The dance, the pizza, movie night. It was kind of perfect." Kurt said.
"Yeah, it was." Blaine smiled, nodding.
Blaine's phone buzzed and he pulled it out of his pocket, curious.
Wes: Some of us are chilling in the common lobby. You and Kurt should come down.
"Wes wants us to come down to the lobby and hang out in the common area." Blaine said.
"Sure." Kurt shrugged.
"I promise everyone else will be in lazy clothes. You'll fit right in." Blaine smiled, offering his hand which Kurt took with a grin and a shake of his head.
They held hands all the way down to the first floor, feeling completely natural. When they made it to the common lobby Wes and David were there, curled into a large armchair together, chatting. Nick and Jeff were sitting, cuddled on the couch with bowls of cereal. There were two others in the lobby that Kurt didn't know the names of, all relaxed and in 'lazy clothes' as Blaine had said. Kurt was amused by how cuddly everyone seemed in the morning. Blaine hadn't been kidding when he said he was swimming in touchy feely.
"Kurt!" Wes smiled brightly. "Good morning."
"Morning, Wes." Kurt smiled.
"Did you have fun at the dance?" Wes asked.
"Yeah, actually. It was great." Kurt brightened, nodding.
"Wes is always a little paranoid that things aren't going to go well, but they always end up going perfectly." Blaine said, grinning as he sat on the other end of the couch, Kurt sitting next to him.
They weren't as tightly cuddled as the others, but they made Kurt feel safe enough to lean until their shoulders were touching.
"I had a lot of fun, Wes. Thanks for helping in the surprise." Kurt said.
"No problem." Wes shrugged with a happy smile. "You're like an honorary Warbler."
"Really?" Kurt looked at him in disbelief.
"After tonight, totally. Jeff, Nick, and Blaine are basically in love with you. David and I really like you. Tabi couldn't stop gushing about how sweet you were." Wes said. "Overall you're liked in the Warblers."
"Marcy approves of you." David grinned.
"Oh...I...thanks." Kurt stumbled, surprised by it all.
"You do fit with us really well." Nick said.
"It's a sign!" Jeff chimed.
Blaine and Kurt laughed, sharing a look, both thinking about their earlier conversation. A silent exchange that wasn't missed by any of the other boys who all shared an amused look. They talked a little bit more about the dance, and the Warbler performance. Eventually talking about classes, which lead to Nick groaning about the essay he had to spend the rest of the day working on. It was nice to just sit back and talk about anything and everything.
Kurt was surprised to find that David and Wes both watched America's Top Model, for their girlfriends they claimed. They weren't really into fashion, but they both admitted it was an interesting world. Blaine could tell they scored points with Kurt for at least understanding the different terminology, and asked him questions about it that they were too embarrassed to ask their girlfriends about.
At some point the TV was turned on and they settled for some Saturday morning cartoons. Kurt relaxed against Blaine, not noticing the time that was passing until his phone started ringing and he jumped, answering it without looking at the screen. He knew that ring tone.
"Hello." he said.
"Hey bud, it's me. I'm about ten minutes out. Which parking lot is your car in?" Burt said.
"The West lot, in front of the big red and white building. I'll get my stuff and meet you there, okay?" Kurt suggested.
"Sounds good. See you then." Burt said.
"Ok. Bye." Kurt hung up, looking at the group. "My dad will be here soon."
"Let's get your stuff and I can walk you to your car." Blaine offered.
"It was cool hanging out with you Kurt. Don't be a stranger." Wes smiled.
"Thanks, Wes. I'll try." Kurt grinned.
"Drive safe." David waved.
"I'm gonna miss you." Jeff pouted, standing up to hug Kurt.
"You'll see me before you know it. Nationals is right around the corner, if you don't see me before that." Kurt chuckled, hugging him.
"Glad you got to make it." Nick said, hugging him next.
"Thanks. I'm glad I did too." Kurt smiled, returning the hug.
After he gathered his tux and put his shoes back on, he followed Blaine out, waving one last time to the guys in the lobby before making his way back to the parking lot. They didn't say much as they walked. Burt was pulling into the lot about the same time they arrived.
"Hey, kiddo." Burt said as he got out of his truck.
"Hey, dad." Kurt smiled. "Dad, this is Blaine. Blaine, this is my dad, Burt."
"Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Hummel." Blaine smiled, holding out his hand.
"Nice to meet you, Blaine. And it's Burt. Kurt seems to think pretty highly of you." Burt said, shaking his hand.
"Dad." Kurt flushed.
"It's okay." Blaine chuckled. "I think pretty highly of your son too. He's a really great person to have around."
Burt seemed to evaluate his words, nodding in agreement before gesturing for Kurt to pop his hood to the Navigator. He looked it over, not seeing anything outwardly wrong with it.
"Must be the battery. We can jump it and drive it to the shop. I can work on it Sunday and have it ready for school Monday." Burt said.
Kurt nodded, figuring that would be the plan. He didn't really have any other major plans this weekend, so he could go a day and a half without his car. Burt went and got his cables from the back of his truck and hooked everything up. It wasn't long before Kurt's car was purring again and Kurt knew it was finally time to say goodbye to Blaine who had been watching everything with a polite distance as to not get in the way.
"I'll see you around." Blaine smiled.
"I'll write and let you know I got home safe." Kurt joked, making Blaine laugh.
"I look forward to it." Blaine said.
Kurt grinned, shaking his head as he stepped forward, hugging Blaine who wrapped his arms around him, returning the hug warmly.
"Thank you for being my Valentine. It meant a lot to me." he murmured in Kurt's ear.
"Mine too." Kurt murmured.
Blaine smiled, letting go of Kurt so he could get back in his car. He waved to Burt who nodded from his truck. He stepped back onto the walkway, watching until the two vehicles pulled out of the parking lot and drove out of sight.
