It was rare for Kenshin to feel so guarded around a woman. Cat. However, the unusual tingle of her power made him itch. Her magic was rare, unlike any he met before. Around others, magic always diffused like a puff of smoke or scattered out like dust. His second gaze allowed him to see these things, something not everyone could do. It was a gift from his father's line.
None the less, when his golden eyes studied Kaoru's form he didn't find any smoke or dust. The magic seemed to be centered on her womb or heart. It shone from the inside giving her a soft glow of something ethereal, otherworldly.
If this was not enough to make him twitch nervously the strange song she was humming only served to remind him of something tragic and dangerous. Perhaps it was her voice or the experiences she had in life…but he knew, by the way she moved and glanced around that she was so very different.
"Do you want some?" Kaoru suddenly asked with a chirp on her voice but as soon as she noticed his golden eyes she scowled, "No, no, no, Kenshin. It's been enough of your curiosity for one day. If I didn't know better…I would think you are using x-rays to see through my clothes." At his blush she chuckled, he was so easily flustered, "Now, now…let's get you something to eat," she said with a wide smile as she walked to the table where he was sitting and put some kind of soup in front of him.
"You did this?" the red head asked watching the food dubiously. Uncaring if it was bad manners he moved closer to sniff the food.
"Mou!" whined Kaoru with a pathetic mewl at the end, "My previous ally liked my food."
If he thought about refusing her food after feeling the intensity of her glare he thought it over. He brought the soup up to his mouth and sipped a little before choking and hurriedly placed the bowl down on the table again, "Ugh….this was…horrible."
"Mou!" and with a huff Kaoru moved away from him and back to the kitchen. Mid-way she stopped and then looked up as an idea struck her, "Oh…perhaps that's why he always smiled funny when he ate." After thinking about that her shoulders sagged pitifully.
