Chapter 24 : Lightning Orbs
Cavern of the Path to the Top of Thunder Mountain
Storm and Thunderbolt had now entered a small cave on the way to the top of Thunder Mountain . James had dismounted to lead Thunderbolt through the cave . It was a little dark inside and what seemed like a misty fog was all around them .
" Fog inside of a cave is kind of strange don ' t you think Thunderbolt ? " James questioned as they entered a large room with different textures and geographical features along the structure of the room .
Thunderbolt looked at Storm almost in a questioning manner as if he was confused as to what this large room was for .
" I have no idea either , but lets be cautious as we look for a way out of here . " James said pulling out one of his pistols just in case something attacked them .
Thunderbolt nodded and looked like he agreed with the Cowboy on being cautious .
James glanced around the cave until he saw the only door leading to the other side of the cavern they were in . Storm advanced to it , but as he moved the wall moved to block the door both in front of him and the one he and Thunderbolt had come from closing them in the room .
" Uh oh , " Storm said as Thunderbolt pulled the Cowboy back towards him by the collar on Storm ' s shirt .
The Cowboy was just about to say something to the stallion , but just then a lightning bolt came down on where James had been standing , the same spot that Thunderbolt had pulled him back from .
" I owe you a thank you , partner . You just saved my neck from getting zapped . " James said cringing at what could have happened to him .
But , before the Cowboy had to much time to catch his breath he saw that the lightning was charging up again .
" Run , Thunderbolt keep away from the lightning . " Storm said as both of them moved and dodged streaks of lightning until they were behind one of the geographical structures on the ground blocking them both from the lightning .
" Man that was close , this dark room and fog makes it difficult to see anything . If only we had a light we could figure out what the deal is with this place . " James thought just as Thunderbolt whinnied .
Storm looked at the wood in the middle of the room that Thunderbolt had pointed out .
" I wonder if I could use my lightning to light it . " James said focusing on his powers of thunder sending a streak of lightning from his hands right at the wood causing it to catch fire and light up the room .
Storm saw the whole room and realized what he must do . There were targets high up around the room that he obviously would need to shoot with his rifle , maybe they opened the door to the caverns. But at the same time he would have to avoid getting hit by the lightning .
" Thunderbolt , I don ' t want you to move until I give you the signal buddy , you are to stay here avoiding the lightning understood ? " James looked at Thunderbolt who nodded his head like he understood what Storm had told him .
James looked around noticing that the targets also had numbers on going from one to twelve .
" I guess I have to hit them in order , " Storm thought as he put the pistol back in its holster on his belt and pulled the rifle out of its holster on his back .
" Time for target practice . " James said making Thunderbolt snort .
" Look , I am trying to lighten the mood some partner . " Storm said and then look at the target with the number one on it , he could actually shoot it from where he was at .
Storm layed down on his stomach moving a little ways to the side of the structure he and Thunderbolt were behind just enough to see the target , but not to be in the sight of the orbs sending out the lightning at them . James then took his rifle looking through the scope and lining up the sights with the bull's-eye of the target with the number one . He used his powers to charge his own lightning into the rifle and then took his shot making the lightning bullet go straight through the target shattering the target .
Thunderbolt snorted .
" Yeah , it was a nice shot buddy . Now for the others " Storm said .
Soon Storm had shattered the rest of the targets in numerical order . Once the twelfth target was hit lightning began shooting from twelve orbs that came from with the shattered targets . All of the lightning joined together hitting the orb in the center of the room , the same one that had targeted James and Thunderbolt , which shot out a large lightning bolt right at a yellow orb at the top of the door that lead up the mountain shattering the blocked door and opening both doors of the cavern .
" Wow , that was incredible . " James said as Thunderbolt whinnied in awe .
Just then light appeared in the center of the ground where the burning wood piece laid , Storm cautiously moved towards looking in a sphere with lightning swirling inside and a book .
" These are probably important . " James said picking them both up and putting them in a safe place with in his bag .
Thunderbolt whinnied looking at the open door .
" You ' re right partner , we need to move on towards the top of Thunder Mountain where the rest of our powers rest . " James said mounting Thunderbolt .
Storm rode out of the cave up the mountain and back out into the opening . Soon , he began moving faster again lifting the fog in places that it settled and clearing the path of branches that would trip up Thunderbolt for the trees had grown thick and tall up in the higher parts of Thunder Mountain .
" This place is very dense Thunderbolt , even the path is overgrown so be careful as we ride up to the top . " Storm said .
Thunderbolt whinnied to show he was listening to the Cowboy .
" We should be there soon , just as long as nothing else stops us on our way . " James said .
The fog was getting lighter as he went higher up the mountain , but the clouds were now getting close especially the ones the surrounded the peak . But , Storm rode on with not a second thought as to what awaited him at the top . All he knew was that he would have to face it and take it head on to complete his task . It was his duty and purpose to protect what he loves most in this world and those who would become prey to the evil demons being unlocked from the Pit as the Twelve Gates are opened .
