What Happens Now?
A.N. Even though there were no reviews for my last chapter ( I made a lot of mistakes, sorry ) I intend to finish this story while working on ADB, also I apologize for any mistakes going forward. I have never had a beta, which I wish I did. I am going to try and wrap this up soon. I just posted a chapter of ADB a couple of days ago. Thank you
Chapter 25
Adama House
The next morning Kara had breakfast with Caroline, Star, Adama and Commander Longstreet. They ate in silence after greeting each other, Kara supposed it was because of all they had learned the night before. Until Adama brought the missions back up.
Adama sighed " Kara I don't think Lee will back out of the mission, as much as we both want him to " he took a sip of coffee " What will you do then? "
Kara who was holding Star in her lap looked at him " You're right he probably won't, but if Uncle Max is able to get Kate she will be on the Atlantia for a few days. After that hopefully he will let me train her to fly the stealth viper, then she can cross over the red line and meet up with Peter, her brother " she got up because Star was getting fussy " If he does I will go back to Pegagus and do what I can to make sure Lee survives the mission or die trying, I won't let anything happen to him "
Jackson stated " Then the both of you will be by the cylon armistice line "
Kara shrugged.
Caroline looked at Kara and Star " I want you to be there for Lee also, but for Star's sake one of you needs to stay far away from the Space Station "
Kara put the struggling Star down " I know Caroline, but I have to be there for Lee, I won't be able to do anything else while I am worrying about him, either we survive together or die together "
Adama wanted Kara and Lee together himself " I'm sure between the two of you that you can come up with a plan so that you both make it through alive "
Kara had sat back down and smiled at him " You know us well sir " she turned and saw Star sitting down playing with a toy " We did come up with the plan that won us the War Games "
Adama grunted " I was informed of that "
Kara got up " I need to tell Star goodbye and meet with Mike and Captain Davis, I will see you later sirs " she looked at Caroline " I'll try to get back tonight, if things go right. Either way I will see you and Star before I leave "
They watched as Kara told Star goodbye then she went out the front door.
Caprica
Kara met with Mike and their Captain at the outdoor shooting range she could only tell them they were ordered to take out a terrorist and they had to take him alive.
After shooting from various angles they set up on top of the building across from Castillo's alley.
Earlier that morning Admiral Zakhar ordered the Pegagus, Ajax, and the NYX to start jumping towards the Space Station and to stay at least one jump away until they received further orders.
He then got into one of the two vans along with Captain Irish.
Zakhar had told everyone they were capturing a violent terrorist. He spoke to Captain Irish " I will need you inside to let us know when he heads out into the alley, nothing else understood Captain? "
Even though she knew it was about a lot more she nodded " Yes sir "
Kara knew Zakhar had chose two marines, but she had Captain Davis choose another marine he could trust. That would be the four of them and Zakhar's two, plus Adama and the two from their house, Commander Longstreet and Zakhar going to Greystone Manor. Kara didn't want to take any chances when it came to security.
Kara had Captain Davis's marine and himself join those in the van when she saw it pull up.
It was lunchtime and Leobon had a strange feeling all day. As soon as he got a chance he went into the alley to call Cavil to see if the plans remained the same. Just as he pulled his phone out he got shot in one leg dropping the phone. As he tried to stand up he was shot again in his other leg, then two marines grabbed him and drug him into a van. Then they gagged him and covered his head. He was worried they had found out what he was, he also knew he would kill himself as soon he got the chance.
After picking up Starbuck and her spotter they left for Greystone Manor. Admiral Zakhar had called Adama and Longstreet and told them to meet him along with the two men Adama had brought with him, then he called Captain Irish and told her to go back to the office.
Kara was in a van with Captain Davis, Mike and one of Zakhar's marines, Zakhar had his and their marine with him. Kara was guessing it was because his marine knew where they were going.
Greystone Manor
After pulling up to a huge house that was surrounded by an even larger compound they got out.
Zakhar motioned his marine over and ordered them to take the prisoner inside after speaking to an older man. He then showed the rest where they could wait inside.
After they left Mike and Captain Davis started asking her questions.
Captain Davis was looking around the large room they had been placed in " Alright Starbuck, what is going on? "
Mike knew strange things had been happening for a while.
Kara looked at her Captain " Sir I can't tell you, but it is very important and highly classified "
Mike asked " Does this have anything to do with Admiral's Zakhar and Nagalia coming to the Pegagus? "
Kara nodded " Yep, but I still can't tell you anything "
Kara didn't know that Adama, his two men and Commander Longstreet had showed up and was now with Admiral Zakhar.
They had Leobon shackled and Cottle was tending to his legs. Zakhar, Adama and Longstreet were talking to Max and explaining everything to him.
Max who was Greystone's assistant knew what his employers had done all those years ago. He looked at Zakhar " It has been almost seven years since you have been here, a lot has happened. I know how the centurions created the first cylon, because I have created a body for Zoe and placed her chip inside of her. I used the computer and a lot of technical babble to do it, I made a body as close to Zoe's as possible " Max paused " I could have done it sooner by using a body from the morgue, but Zoe wanted to wait until I could make one that was similar to hers. The difference between her and the cylons is that she has her humanity "
Zakhar asked " Why didn't you tell anyone? "
Max shrugged " Who was I going to tell and up until today I didn't know there were human looking cylons " he looked at Adama " Commander I don't need your technician, but I can show your Doctor how to screen people " he looked back at Zakhar " How did you find out about them? "
Zakhar explained it to him and their theory about when the cylons would attack.
Max asked " Is your pilot here? "
Zakhar nodded " Yes and she is Commander Adama's daughter-in-law "
Max nodded " Then bring her in and send the technician away, I will get Zoe and meet you in the lab, this is going to be easier than you think " he walked away.
Adama got Lt. Gaeta and took him to the room where Starbuck had been placed. He was glad he hadn't gave Gaeta any details.
When they reached the room he opened the door " Lt. Gaeta you stay here " he looked at Kara " Starbuck you come with me "
As they were walking Kara asked " Did you get anything out of it yet? "
Adama shook his head " Not yet, but soon. The man that takes care of this place was the Greystone's research assistant, he said it would be easy "
They all met in the lab, Kara glanced at the cylon she had shot and the three marines with it.
They all walked away from the cylon.
Introductions were made and Max told Doctor Cottle what was going on.
Zoe stood there while they looked at her as Max explained about her and how she came to be.
Cottle gasped " So the cylons came to be human looking because of what the Greystone's did? "
Max sighed " Yes, but that was not their intentions which is why Daniel Greystone and Admiral Middleton came up with the plan. I am sorry that everyone can't be saved "
Zoe who was pretty with long dark hair and hazel eyes asked " What about us Max, what are we going to do? " she also looked to be in her early twenties.
Zakhar answered for Max, he pointed at Jackson " Commander Longstreet is leaving for the planet the day before the attacks and there is a place for the two of you aboard the Litae "
Kara added " I've been told it is beautiful and Max I'm sure they could use someone with your abilities, also my daughter and mother-in-law will be on the Litae "
Max nodded " We will talk about it. Now let's see what the cylon can tell us "
As they were walking away Kara whispered to Zoe " Max won't live forever and you could start over on the planet "
Zoe asked " Where will you be? "
Kara looked away then back at her " My husband and I are viper pilots we will be fighting the cylons "
When they got back to the cylon he yelled " I'm not telling you anything "
Max looked at Cottle " Draw a blood sample before we get started " he looked at Admiral Zakhar " What do you want to do about the marines? "
Zakhar looked at them " Wait until the Doctor draws his blood then make sure he is shackled good, after that guard the door outside "
As Cottle did that Max began setting the computer up " Zoe get me the computer port "
Leobon kept looking around he knew he was in for trouble when they placed him in a containment room and he saw an old centurion model come in.
Zoe explained " This is Buddy we shared my chip while I was an avatar and once Max created my body we split and Buddy got to be himself again "
Max added " These new cylons should be mostly synthetic, so Buddy will connect the port to him and we will be able to see what it knows on the computer, it won't be able to hide anything from us "
Jackson asked " How do you know since you have never seen one? "
Max shrugged " They come from centurions and while Zoe was in Buddy I ran diagnostics, except back then it was just code. Zoe and I had a lot of time on our hands so we kept upgrading the system, which basically means if it is a computer we can see what it thinks "
Leobon and Buddy were looking at each other. Leobon hoped the centurion would help him, but the more it looked at him the less he thought it would. He also wondered how they had found out about him.
Max had finished and went to Buddy " It is time, have you figured out where to place the port? "
Everyone jumped when Buddy spoke except for Zoe and Max " Yes Max "
Max handed him the port and went back to the computer " Don't worry Buddy can handle him "
They gathered around the wall monitor Max had hooked up, so he could stay by the computer and make sure it downloaded what the port showed.
Buddy starting asking questions as soon as he placed the port in. Leobon struggled against it but Buddy easily over powered him.
" How many of you are there? "
As Max predicted images showed up with several gasps coming from them. Adama gasped " That one is a raptor pilot on the Galactica "
Kara gagged " That one is my spotters girlfriend "
Zakhar added " That one is a reporter on Caprica, she always interviews President Adar "
Cottle shivered " I have seen him he is a doctor and a friend of mine, at least I thought he was "
Buddy waited until they finished, Zoe had told him what was happening " How many of you are there? "
The screen lit up there were thousands of them if not more.
Kara went into the room " How many ships do you have and what kinds? " she had seen several different ships.
Leobon tried to fight it, but the ships showed up.
After looking at them she went back into the room " What is so important about the ship you all protect? "
A word showed up ' Resurrection Hub '
Max suddenly had a thought and went to the prisoner " Does that mean you don't die? "
Leobon dropped his head, they were in trouble.
Max went to the monitor and pointed at the ship " I think when they die they resurrect, which means as long as they have those ships we can never get rid of them "
Kara went back in " Show us how many basestars and resurrection ships you have "
The monitor lit up again showing about thirty basestars and a resurrection ship for each, except the main one Kara had seen.
They all gasped again, it was overkill.
Adama asked " What are we going to do? "
Zakhar whispered " For one we can't let him die or we lose our advantage "
Max stated in a whisper " Buddy will keep him alive, anymore questions we should ask? "
They all looked at each other.
Adama went and asked " How many colonial ships are the cylons on? "
The monitor lit up showing all the battlestars, gun stars, vacation ships, basically every ship in the fleet.
Zakhar hung his head " There are to many of them, we can't possibly round them all up and keep from tipping our hand at the same time "
Jackson asked " Did anyone see the Litae? "
Kara shook her head " No, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't check, your battlestar needs to be clear cause we can't chance you taking even one of them with you "
Adama asked " Should we just leave them alone until after the battle? "
Zakhar nodded " We have to, but they need to be watched "
Kara had been thinking about Carter " I don't think all of them want to go to war "
Max asked " You think some of them have come to like humans? "
Kara shrugged " Maybe " she looked at Adama " What do you think about Boomer? "
Adama sighed " She acts like a human, but that could be what they are programmed to do "
Jackson looked around " There is no way you all can save all of the twelve worlds. We probably have room for what battlestars and other ships survive, but how are the military people going to feel when their loved ones die, and they find out some of us knew about the cylons? "
Zakhar looked at him " We knew this was going to happen. All we can do is make plans and try to win the war, as for everyone who doesn't know it will look like a random attack. The ones who do know can't ever tell anyone, are we clear? "
Kara didn't like it because Helo had family and Mike would figure it out, also there was Captain Davis, but she nodded in agreement. " I think we should have the gun stars target the resurrection ships, they must stay close to their basestars "
Max handed out copies of the different cylons and their ships. " For Zoe's sake I think we will go with the Litae, but not right now, we may learn more about the cylons. What world is the Litae on? "
Jackson answered " Picon, but it will take you a day to travel there "
Cottle asked " Do I still need to check blood or do you think he showed us everyone? "
Max went and asked Buddy then came back " Buddy says we got all of them, everyone needs to keep an eye out, they could be placed in key positions, I would keep the sample with you just in case we need it "
Kara had a thought " What if that cylon is supposed to check in or something? "
Zakhar shook his head " Doesn't matter now we can't let him go, but we need to be ready in case they move their attack up "
After they talked some more they left. Kara rode with Adama and Jackson back to the Adama house, she would have to check in with her Uncle Max in the morning. She just wanted to see Star, it might be the last time for a while, because she intended on making sure her and Lee made it to Safe Haven. Kara also avoided Mike because of Carter.
After eating dinner in which she didn't talk about what they learned, she took Star and went to bed. She left that to the Commanders to tell Caroline who was as shocked as they had been.
Kara showered with Star who made her laugh as she tried to mock her at trying to shampoo her hair by herself. It didn't turn out well, Kara ended up having to get soap out of her eyes. Later they were in the bed snuggled up and Kara thought about Lee, she had thought about him most of the day. She had to see him soon and let him know what she had learned. Kara said her usual prayer to keep him safe.
After getting herself and Star dressed they went down for breakfast. Kara held Star as much as she would let her, but when they made it downstairs Star wanted her Gammy. Kara handed her over and and fixed herself a plate then joined Adama and Jackson.
When they were all seated Bill showed Caroline the cylons again " Remember what they look like Caroline, and after what we learned yesterday Kara and I agree that the two of you need to board the Litae as soon as possible. You need to pack for the both of you starting today "
Kara added " I am going by our house to pack a few things and then I have to leave. I probably won't see you until after the war, but don't worry we will join you both as soon as we can "
After breakfast she called her uncle who told her to meet him at noon and that Kate was joining them.
Adama and Jackson left before her in order to pick up Cottle and Gaeta and head back to Picon. Kara watched as Adama hugged and kissed both Star and Caroline. He looked at them like he thought he would never see them again. He also hugged her and said for her and Lee to keep each other safe. They were all worried about Zak because he had no clue what was coming and they didn't know where he was.
When it came time for Kara to leave she started sobbing as she held Star close to her chest. She couldn't even say anything coherent for the sobbing. Star reached up and placed her hand on her cheek " Mama hurt? "
Kara shook her head " No babygirl just sad about leaving. I'm gonna miss you, Mama and Dada love you so much "
Caroline wrapped her arms around them both " Kara we are going to be okay don't worry just keep your head in the game, you and Lee can't worry about us and fight the cylons, okay? "
All Kara could do was nod. She made herself walk out the door after that.
Atlantia
Kara took Kate to her bunk room and helped her get settled in, after looking around she looked at Kate " I need to talk to you about something, but first I need to speak with Uncle Max. I will find you later "
Kate who liked Kara right away asked " Shouldn't I be in the junior pilots room? "
Kara shrugged " Usually, but if anyone asks tell them that I put you in here, not your dad anyway it's just til we meet up with the Pegagus "
Crash walked in and Kara introduced them " Keep an eye on her Crash, I don't want the pilots giving her a hard time "
Kate chuckled " I can take care of myself Starbuck, but I wouldn't mind Crash giving me a tour, it's been years since I have been on the Atlantia " she looked at Crash " Call me Huntress "
Kara left after finding out the Admiral was in his office, she hoped he agreed with her. There was a marine standing at the hatch who knocked and announced her. Kara went in to find him sitting on his sofa having a drink.
After coming to attention and being told to stand down she sat in the chair across from her Uncle Max " I take it Admiral Zakhar filled you in on what happened at Greystone Manor "
Max nodded " Pour yourself a drink Kara, I need to tell you something "
Kara poured her drink and chuckled " That's funny because I need to ask you something "
Max sipped his drink " First we are headed close to the Space Station to meet with the Pegagus, the NYX and the Ajax who are also in the area. Second we found a cylon who is one of our doctors, I was told to leave it alone "
Kara thought back on the pilots she had see " Let me guess the dark skinned one, Doc Cottle said he had met him. Is there any chance he reported the War Games to his fellow cylons? "
Max nodded " Probably, but luckily we kept them in the dark, so I don't think he knows what's going on. Now what do you have to ask me? "
Kara finished her drink off before asking " I know you want someone familiar to meet with the Elphis and Peter, so I was hoping you would let me train Kate on the stealth viper, it isn't a dangerous mission. I need to be with Lee and the Pegagus at the Space Station, I also need to tell him Star and his mom are leaving on the Litae " Kara paused " How much did you tell Kate? "
Max sighed " I don't think Kate will be ready for the mission and I told her and Major Grey that is was critical that Kate be on the Pegagus, that's all. I have no idea if I should tell her anything. " Max stood up " Kara Admiral Zakhar wants you to meet the Elphis "
Kara stood to face him " I know, but I won't leave Lee especially after sending our daughter and his mom away. If Kate isn't ready then Showboat can meet the Elphis "
Max knew Kara was going to do what she wanted orders or not and this way he would be able to keep Kate with him. He knew they were reaching the point where they all had jobs to do anyway they could do them. We will see, but every chance you get I want you flying with her in the Mark VI, she has trained in it and they also can switch from electronic to manual. " Max thoughts veered to the captured cylon " Did anyone ask the cylon how they planned on taking our ships out? "
Kara sighed " No, I have a feeling we didn't ask it a lot of things, but I assume the non networked ships will stand a better chance "
Max shook his head at the enormity of the situation, things were worse than they imagined even with the information they had gotten, " We jump in an hour take Kate out flying before we do "
Kara saluted her Admiral " Yes Sir "
She thought as she was leaving that at least he was considering her request.
