So this chapter is considerably shorter than the others only because I had to split it into two parts, otherwise it would've been extremely long. I'm super excited for y'all to read this, like I've had this chapter planned out from the start. I'm gonna try to post part two before Saturday but no promises.
For the next few days Emma and Hook kept their distance. It wasn't out of anger, but only because both of them had something on their minds. While Hook was busy trying to think of something he could do to really show Emma he was sorry, Emma was thinking about solving something of her own. A riddle.
The price of True Love is big and great
It's magic comes with loss and hate.
But it's not always the lovers that pay the price...
There's three ways to pay, I'll give you two:
The first says no one will ever love you,
The second, sadly, is just as nice
There is a curse that might help you
But how do you know the happiness is true?
Now here's a little hint for the thrice:
True Love's magic is great, this is true
But a greater power may lie in you.
Even after all these years she still didn't know what any of that nonsense meant. During the nights, when all the men slept Emma pulled out her little journal and would rewrite the riddle word for word, over and over, trying to see if one of these times it would make sense. The first part was easy, but those last two lines... What did they mean? What was he talking about.
Emma sighed loudly, after reading the riddle backwards for the tenth time. It was only a couple hours after everyone had gone to sleep, but to her it felt like years. Emma looked up at the sky then closed the journal and hid it away in her bag. 'Better get some sleep this week' She thought as she lied down and quickly drifted off.
...
Hook had a plan, at last he had a plan. It took him days to come up with but then he saw it. And now he had a plan. He could barely fall asleep, he was so happy. Hopefully Emma would accept his apology after this. Hook decided, however, to wait until night fall to put this new plan into motion. Mostly because it was probably the only time when they might have done privacy, but he also had... other motives.
...
"Emma...come on love, get up." Hook said in a whisper as he gently nudged Emma's shoulder. Emma grumbled then turned over. He pushed her again, this time earning a little grunt and one eye opening.
"Come on, lass." He said again as she looked at him with half closed eyes.
"What?" Emma asked in a sleepy voice.
"Get up, I want to show you something."
"But... I'm tired." Hook chuckled a little at this before helping her sit up.
"You can sleep later. Now come on, we haven't got all day."
"It's night time."
"Right, then, we haven't got all night."
...
It was hard for Emma to see where they were walking due to the fact that it was midnight and therefore pitch black. She was somewhat able to make out Hooks silhouette but it got harder as they went deeper into the forest. Emma mostly relied on her sense of sound to figure out where Hook was and which direction to go in. She listened carefully and followed the sound of his feet.
"How can you even tell where we're going?" Emma asked in a very disgruntled tone as she pushed aside a branch that was in her way.
"Pirates are used to working in the dark, love. It's the best time to get treasure." He didn't sound the slightest bit tired when he said this, which only made Emma more upset.
"You mean to steal treasure." Emma corrected.
"Of course, how else would we get it?" He said, not at all offended by Emma's statement. "You sound awfully upset love, what's the matter?"
"The matter is that I'm tired, and you felt the need to wake me up and walk me into the woods for some unknown reason!" Her voice carried a lot farther than she had expected, but Emma didn't care.
"Ssh... look, I know it's a bit... inconvenient. But, it'll be worth it trust me." Hook said just as Emma tripped over a branch and fell over.
"Sorry, love." He said as he helped her up. "Here just take my hand, it'll probably be easier... for you anyway."
Emma grabbed his hand and felt the odd sensation of deja vous. She thought back and then remembered, instantly pulling her hand away. Hook stopped and looked at her, probably confused, not that Emma could tell in the dark.
"Something wrong?" He asked, definitely confused by the sound of his voice.
"This is... oddly familiar." Emma said as she crossed her arms.
"Is it?" He asked, still confused. 'Damn it!' Emma thought, 'I can't tell if he's faking because I can't see him!'
"So what? You're gonna cuff me to a tree or something?" She asked.
"I'm not locking you up, Swan. It was a one time thing and that was before I knew I could trust you." He explained then grabbed her hand again. "Now come on, I don't want to miss it."
"Miss what?" She asked.
"You'll see."
