"Hold still would you?"
"I don't want to get jabbed in the eye again!"
"If you weren't moving I wouldn't jab you."
"But I need to blink."
"Chloe Saunders don't you dare blink. Your mascara is not dry yet!"
I couldn't help but shake my head, they already sounded like sisters. Chloe really brings this family together. She gave dad another child to love and protect. She became best friend to trust and laugh with. She gave Tori a dress up doll and a much needed best friend. She gave my family a new Derek, a happier one that smiles on occasion. She gave Derek happiness because he deserves it and he has finally found the right girl for him. I wish I was there the other night, I would have talked him out of leaving. He's running away because he is afraid of losing everything he cares most for, but in the process he is risking losing it all.
Tori's hooker heels clicking down the steps interrupted my thoughts.
"Presenting the new, and much improved, Chloe!" She flung her arms out like a model on a game show.
Chloe walked around the corner to the top of the stairs. She gripped the railing tight.
"Tori I can hardly stand in these. How will I walk in them all day?" She asked.
I looked away from her face which Tori had somehow managed to make look even more beautiful if possible. Her fair skin looked perfect and her eyes were bluer than I have ever seen them before. Her strawberry blond hair looked soft and thick in lose curls that hung around her shoulders and framed her face like a pretty picture. Her soft blue shirt was tighter than I had ever seen her wear, but it showed how tiny she actually was. Her dark wash skinny jeans hugged her hips and stayed tight all the way down to her black gladiator strap heels.
"You will just have to learn. It was your choice not to wear the skirt` so you'll have to wear the heels." Tori said holding her weight all on one hip.
"You look very nice Chloe, but please be very careful," Dad said laughing.
Chloe gripped the railing until her knuckles turned white. She slowly crept down the stairs but tripped on the last step. I caught her just in time.
"Oh my gosh thank you so much Simon!" She gushed.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"I think so. Tori I cannot wear these. Give me a second I'm goanna go change into flats." She said and she took off the heels. Her bare feet padded up the steps.
Once Chloe came back down stairs we headed off to school.
Chloe's PROV
I was trying to be happy. I was trying to smile, but I feel as if a part of me was missing. My day was empty and I was broken without my Derek. I needed him to hold me. I needed my mate.
School passed in a blur. I sat with Liz and Nate again. Nate's girlfriend Amber was distraction enough that no one noticed that I was even there. Thankfully I didn't have art with Simon so I didn't have to pretend to be happy, I could just be alone.
The end of the day was like an unspoken prayer. Kit picked us up, today was the last night I would spend with the Bea family. Aunt Lauren has dinner plans made for us tomorrow night.
Once we got back to the house I went straight to Derek's room.
The dark colors and simplicity reminded me of him. I put on one of his oversized shirts and I walked back out to the clearing. I had decided that would be our place. I sat in the same spot as the other night and I pretended to fade away from the world.

I missed her so much. I can feel the hole in my chest where she is missing. I have been worried about her all morning training.
"You won't last long at this rate, man." I looked over my shoulder to see the Pack's alpha, Jeremy.
"I know. Will it always be like this?" I asked him.
"Always." He said simply.
"How can I keep her from getting hurt?" I sounded hopeless.
"You have to be there with her so you can protect her. She is in more danger right now that she ever was during your change. She is alone and you're not there to protect her. She feels this pain too, before too long you will both become depressed. I would say at this rate you already are depressed." Jeremy said.
"Thanks man, but I need hold off a few more days to make sure my head is clear."
"Take all the time you need you are my nephew after all!" Jeremy said ruffling my bangs just like he did when I was a child.
When I was a child my mother died during my birth. My father, Zackery Cain, was a werewolf who had just lost his lifelong mate. He blamed me for her death. Zackery became abusive. When I was eight Jeremy, my mother's brother, came and found me. He saved me from my abusive father and took me to Kit, one of his trusted friends. I was raised by Kit and he treated me like a son. Zackery died months after due to his depression. I started going to the Pack every summer once I started my change. Having two parents with the werewolf gene guaranteed my fate to be a werewolf. Because my mother was of Alpha blood I changed sooner than I should ever had. But Jeremy knew what would happen, and he was there for me. Jeremy is like the older brother I never had, he looks out for me. I owe him a lot.

I watched Chloe stumble out the door and into the woods. I know this won't end well. I follow the little blond into the woods.
I use to hate her, she was weak in my eyes, but she was also a danger to my family. My real family not my bitch of a mother and her clone, my litter sister. Chloe being the little blond that she is reminds me a lot of Brit, but getting to know her better they are nothing alike. Chloe is caring and companionate, while Brittney is self-absorbed and not very bright. Chloe is more my little sister than Brit has been her entire life.
So that is why I even considered following after the idiot into the woods… at night. I know right now for her is hard. I can see the pain in her eyes that she tries to hide. Before Derek left I caught up to him. He asked me to watch after her and for me to tell Simon to keep her smiling. I can see the darkness inside her seeping through. I tried to cheer her up with a makeover, but that is not her thing. Simon was supposed to watch terrible horror movies with her, but now she is running off.
I followed her into a clearing just deep enough that I could no longer see the house. I waited as she sat down on a discussing log that was half covered in moss.
"What in the hell are you doing?" I asked scaring her.
"Nothing, why are you here Tori?"
"Trying to make sure you don't get yourself killed!"
"I'm capable of looking after myself, thank you."
"Like hell you are! You're depressed without Derek!"
"No! Don't say his name! Please." She started to cry.
I walked over to her and sat beside her on that discussing half rotten log. I held her as she cried, because I knew she didn't need to hear inspirational words of encouragement, but she needed someone to let her know she wasn't alone.
"I miss him too. He will be back soon. He won't leave us forever."
"I'm the reason he left! He didn't want me. I was too much." She was becoming hysteric. Her breath was quick and her heart pounded against me.
"No Chloe! He loves you." I had to snap her out of it or she would pass out.
"No he doesn't. It was all a lie!" She stood up and kicked a tree. She cried out and crumpled to the grown. I had to protect her from hurting herself.
I whispered underneath my breath as a purple smoke surrounded Chloe. She became still and her breath even. I used my magic to lift her. I walked her back to the house. I took time to clean the dirt and makeup from her skin. I washed the mud and product from her hair. I put her in one of Derek's shirts and put her to sleep in his bed. I finished off my night by going down stairs to watch movies with Simon.
