Changes

It was after midnight when she woke up hearing the front door shut and the usual sound of keys being tossed on the table top as he walked in.

Silently she lay there awaiting for her agent to come walking in. In the darkness she watched him kick off his shoes and discard his clothing while he got comfortable in his night clothes. She was happy that he didn't bother to put on his t-shirt instead he crawled in next to her. Instantly the warmth from his body was too much to be without so instinctively she scooted back as he draped his arm around her pulling her closer to him. Her back pressed against his bare chest was enough to make feel complete.

"What time did you get home?" He mumbled behind her.

She smiled hearing him call this house their home, now there was a phrase she never thought he would ever hear him say.

"I got home around seven." She replied shutting her eyes again.

Kissing the tattoo on her neck he whispered. "Good night"

"Good night" She replied covering his hand with hers.

They both drifted off to sleep after a long day of working on a case that they had solved hours ago but he had stayed late to help DiNozzo and McGee securely transport the suspect. He had fallen asleep quickly and she was just about to go to sleep when the sound of his cell phone ringing woke both of them up.

Groaning he buried his face into the crook of her neck. "Just let it ring." He mumbled sleepily.

Shutting her eyes again she tried to go back to sleep but right after his cell stopped ringing hers started to ring on the night stand beside them.

"Someone must really want to talk to you." She said reaching for her phone.

"It better be important." He muttered behind her.

Seeing the name on the phone she answered it. "Here it's Fornell." She said passing the phone behind her.

"Ugh, great another case the FBI can't solve needs my help." He said taking the phone from her as she smiled.

"I heard that." Fornell said on the line.

"What do you want Tobias, I was sleeping." He said rolling onto his back.

"It's barely 12:23 a.m. I knew Abby was too much for you to keep up with her." The FBI agent teased.

"You think you can handle her be my guess." Gibbs replied half asleep.

Abby nudged him hearing what they were talking about.

Fornell chuckled. "Hey, FBI agents leave women saying NCI – what?"

Gibbs huffed. "Sorry, Tobias this girl has a thing for sawdust and gummy bears."

Abby smiled.

"Uh-huh and what happens when there isn't any of that around?" Tobias asked.

"I usually give her a few shots of bourbon." Gibbs replied.

Abby blindly punched behind her unaware that she had punched him where she thought she would never hit her gunny.

Groaning he rolled over not feeling sleepy anymore.

"That didn't sound good." Fornell said hearing his friend groan.

"Ugh" Gibbs responded.

"She hit ya?" He asked.

"Mmm – hmm" Was all he could say, given the circumstances.

Still unaware of what she had done Abby tried to go back to sleep.

"Below the belt?" Tobias asked slightly amused.

"Ugh – yeah" The gunny breathed.

Fornell chuckled. "Sorry, hey Jethro you shouldn't say things about your girl like that." He told his friend.

"Shut up, Tobias. What… do you want?" He asked finally being able to speak again.

"I was calling to ask if you were working on a case." He said.

Taking a deep breath Gibbs cleared his throat. "We just closed one tonight why?"

"What was it?" Tobias asked.

"Naval officer involved in gang activity got his friend killed." He explained.

"Oh… okay, I was just checking." Fornell replied.

"What for?"

"Nothing, it's probably nothing. It will probably just stay here with us."

"What will?" Gibbs asked.

"Eh- nothing. Don't worry about it if you don't know about it now maybe I shouldn't be saying anything." Tobias said trying to end the conversation.

"So, why the hell are you calling?"

"Good question… uh – sweet dreams." Fornell said as she hung up before the gunny pressed him for more information.

He was left confused but he was too tired to try to figure out why Fornell called so he handed the cell phone back to Abby.

"Here" He said keeping his distance from her.

Taking her cell she put it back on the night stand. "Don't offer me up to Fornell again." She mumbled.

He chuckled as he turned away from her. "I was joking, plus you didn't have to hit me."

Turning around she saw him lying away from her. "So, what if I hit you in your gut."

"I kind of wish that you had." He mumbled as he shut his eyes again.

Wrapping her arm around her gunny she kissed his shoulder. "Why where did I-" She began to laugh as she connected the dots.

"That's not funny." He said smiling.

Still laughing she pulled him closer to her. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hit you there."

"Remind me never to piss you off when you have your huge boots on." He replied.

Kissing his shoulder one more time she got up and went over to the window.

"What are you doing?" He asked watching her peer through their bedroom window.

"Did you hear something?" She asked.

"No, did you?" He asked getting up and meeting her at the window.

"No, I just saw headlights." She said looking down the street.

"A car probably just went by… come on." He said taking her hand and tugging her back to bed.

Crawling back into bed they laid down her head resting on his arm while being held by the other and as usual her hand resting upon his. Falling to sleep they shared lazy kisses and whispered good night followed by an 'I love you'.

MORNING

The smell of freshly brewed coffee filled the kitchen as she walked down the stairs pulling his hoodie over her body. The smell of him on his clothing just did things to her as she sniffed the red hoodie one more time before entering the kitchen.

Walking over to the table she picked up her cup that was sitting on the counter next to the coffee maker. Pouring her cup he walked in the back door with a hand full of woods for the fire that he built early this morning.

"Coffee's done." She told him as she sipped on their shared addiction.

"Great" He replied setting the woods down and dusting off his hoodie.

She waited next to the coffee pot watching him pour his own cup of coffee.

"Should we be worried that this is our second pot of coffee?" She asked looking at the now half empty pot.

Taking a drink he shook his head. "No, I think we should start worrying when it's our last pot of coffee."

Giggling she took another drink of her coffee. "One of these days we are both going to end up in rehab for this." She said pointing at her coffee.

"I think we'll need medical attention the day we stop our caffeine intake." He replied taking another drink.

"We should try decaf one day to see what happens." She smiled.

Chuckling he shook his head. "That's just too scary to think about."

"Why is that?"

"That means we would be 'normal' just like everyone else." He smiled.

Smiling she took another drink. "So, you're going to go see your dad today?" She asked as she walked off.

"Yeah, I should be back tonight." He told her setting his cup down.

"Just don't shot the sheriff when you're there." She replied while taking a seat on the couch.

"As long as you stay out of trouble with Carol today." He said walking up the stairs.

"That's going to be hard because Carol is trouble!" She yelled.

"Yeah, will so are you!" He yelled back.

Smiling she sipped on her coffee while he got ready to go see his father.

AFTERNOON

Abby stood in her apartment as she looked around at all her possessions.

"Something wrong?" Carol asked while taking a beer from the fridge.

Taking a deep breath she shook her head and walked over to her friend who was handing her a bottle.

"I just don't know what to do." She replied as she took a seat to the table.

"About moving in with him?" Carol asked taking a seat across her.

"Yeah" She breathed as she took another drink.

"What's to think about? I mean if hotness asked me to move in with him I'll just bring myself because all he needs is me and all I need is him." She replied while taking a drink of her beer.

Abby laughed. "I wish it was that simple. I mean does he mean bring some things over so I can stay there or everything because he wants me to live with him there?"

Carol took a deep breath. "He's not as complicated as that and I've noticed that since you hooked up with him months ago. If he says move in then move in what's to read into? The guy wants you there in his life 24/7 so pack up all your crap and move in."

Smiling Abby looked down at the bottle in her hand. "Carol, this is really serious isn't it?"

"Well duh!" Carol replied. "I think it got serious the night you made love with him all night and the next morning when you were both wicked tired. Yeah, I can say this is serious. Just don't let that scare you, I mean how many women out there do you think would not think twice if he asked them to move in with him. Abby he's asking you." She pointed out.

Smiling she looked at her friend. "You know what he said last night when he came back from work?"

"Let's make babies?" Carol jabbed.

"NO! Oh my god could you get off that subject! No, that's not what he said." Abby laughed.

"Hey, I'm just staying hopeful." She replied.

"You know what I think we'll just adopt you how about that?" Abby said smiling.

"I don't mind calling him 'daddy' anytime." Carol replied as she took a drink of her beer.

Abby burst into laughter. "Carol I hate you!" She laughed.

Swallowing her drink she looked at her friend. "No, seriously what did he say?" She asked.

Still laughing Abby looked back at her. "He said…" Suddenly her laughter started up again. "I can't believe you just said that." She laughed.

"What? He can be my daddy anytime anywhere." Carol said as she winked at her blushing friend.

Shaking her head Abby picked up her beer. "Forget the beer I think I have vodka somewhere in here." She said taking a drink.

"Usually, I'm up for that but I don't trust myself I might make you call him just so that I can call him daddy." Carol giggled.

Smiling Abby set down her drink. "Anyway, when he came back last night he crawled into bed with me and-"

"Oh, I'm loving this story already." Carol said as she set her beer down and brought her full attention to Abby.

"Shut up, nothing happened. Back to what I was saying… he asked me when did I get home." She smiled.

Carol smiled. "Really?"

"Yeah" She breathed.

"Aww who would have guessed you would end up with hotness and that one night he would be coming back from work and calling the house you both are in … home." Carol said happily.

"I know right. I just can't believe things are changing and now I'm moving in with him. Me, Carol no one else but me. I'm moving in with Gibbs who could have imagined that because I never did. I never got pass wondering how his lips would feel when I only dared to think about his kiss. I only imagined how it would feel to wake up in his arms but never this. Not moving in and making it officially official you know?" Abby said looking up at Carol.

"I'm just so happy for you, Abby. I really am because from college until now I never saw you so in love like the way you are with him. He's the one Abby I just know it in my gut… I know it." Carol replied.

"I think I'll take a few things at a time. You know have us both get use to the fact that I'm moving in." Abby said looking around.

"I'm okay with that and I'm sure he will be too because the only thing that matters is that he comes home to you." She smiled at her friend.

"Times are changing." Abby replied while taking a drink of her beer.

"Yeah, look at you all grown up. Moving in with Gibbs and sleeping with him and shit." Carol replied winking at her.

STILLWATER

Sitting across the table from his father he sat quiet as he was relieved that she had decided to stay even though he would have loved to spend time with her but today he needed to do something that she couldn't know about.

Their relationship had changed over the past few months since that day they all went out to the bar. There were things he never thought he would ever do like know what it felt like to come home to her every night or have the pleasure of kissing her good morning at the beginning of every day. It wasn't hard to love her because he had been doing it for so long it just came naturally to him. He didn't have to do anything over the top to get the girl that he loved. He didn't need to shower her in expensive gifts, take her to romantic dinners at the finest restaurants and he didn't even have to drive an Aston Martin to get a girl like that.

All he needed was to wear a hoodie covered in sawdust to make her go crazy, black roses and gummy bear kisses would make her his and who would have guess she would love sitting passenger in his car or truck.

Smiling at the thought about the girl back in DC he failed to notice that his father was watching him.

"I use to smile to myself like that when I thought about your mother… still do." Jack told his son.

Looking up at his father all he could do was smile.

"She's beautiful, smart and makes you happy what more can you ask for?" He said to his son.

"More." He replied.

Jack chuckled as looked up at the picture that hung on the wall. "You know your mother could make me feel loved just by giving me a cup of coffee in the morning."

He smiled thinking about the countless morning he had shared with her that also involved coffee.

"So, she's moving in?" Jack asked.

"Yeah" Gibbs breathed.

"Can I ask what made you want her to live with you?" His father asked.

Looking at his father he shrugged. "Just couldn't be without her. Found myself at night wondering if she was awake and what was she thinking about and if she was sleeping then I end up thinking about what she could be dreaming about. Being apart from her was just getting hard that's when I decided to ask her."

Jack nodded. "Son, I think you're in love."

With a hint of a smile he looked away from his father. "Dad, I feel like I just took a shot of very good bourbon." He smiled. "The kind with every sip leaves you wanting more and more until it feels like your floating then you go after one more drink, that leaves you drunk." He looked at his father. "I'm completely drunk on her and I never want to know what it feels like to be hung over."

"When you called me the other day I figured as such." Jack said taking the item from his shirt pocket. Giving it one more look he smiled at the memory this item had brought as he examined it for a moment. Setting it down on the table he slid it across to his son. "I always wondered when you would ask for that." He said pointing at it.

Gibbs sat quietly looking at the item on the table as he took a deep breath knowing that this would only bring more…

changes.
