Author note: So far I'm getting three chapters out every time, I can't promise I'll be able to keep this up. But this is the last chapter for today. I'll upload the next chapters coming week, I hope next thursday.

The waiting continues

The next morning Julia woke in the guest bedroom. The house was silent. After she had dressed she knocked on Kyle's door and woke him: "I'm going to make breakfast, why don't you get dressed, wake Celesta and then we can go to the hospital." Julia said to her still half asleep son, who just grunted but did open the covers of his bed.

Downstairs he found his mother frying some eggs: "Morning."

"Good morning son. Is Celesta coming down?" Julia couldn't turn around just yet. "No, she went back to the hospital. She wanted to stay close to Horatio." Kyle replied, while he opened the fridge, to get some orange juice and milk.

"She really does love him, doesn't she? I saw a few pictures in the sitting room. They seem happy." Julia turned to deposit the eggs on two of the three plates. She saw Kyle pour the juice in the glasses. Then he looked at her: "They are. I've never seen Horatio happier then when he is with Celesta." Kyle didn't want to spoil the good mood so he didn't stir up the argument they had yesterday. After breakfast they set of for the hospital. They found both Celesta and Yelina asleep in the relatives room. When they entered both woke up. There had been no changes to Horatio's condition. Later today he would have another surgery. The entire day was spent together either in the relatives room or in and directly outside of Horatio's room. The end of the day brought another scare: during the surgery Horatio had had another cardiac arrest. The shock from the shot so near to the heart had stressed the heart to a higher degree than was previously anticipated. Because of this development the medical team assigned to Horatio had decided to keep him in a deep sleep longer, so the heart could in that peace recuperate more.

Yelina had been sent home midday to rest. Julia would remain during the night. Kyla had tried to persuade Celesta to come home with him, but she wouldn't have any of it, she wanted to stay with Horatio.

During the third day Yelina heard through some of her contacts in the police station that the group responsible for the shooting where probably friends of Cyndi's brothers. After hearing the whole tale of Silma's death and Celesta's minimal connection in it, she had been more adamant that Celesta would not e allowed near Horatio. Calleigh and Eric who had heard this tried to reason with her, but to no avail. Calleigh had remained behind in the hospital as moral support to Celesta. Kyle was very happy that she had stayed, because he was greatly worried about Celesta. He could see she was tired, even though she slept fitfully, but she slept short amounts on the seats of the relatives room or on a seat outside Horatio's room. She barely ate and she didn't talk, not much anyway. She didn't want to go home and she didn't take care of herself. She wouldn't allow herself to cry, stating every time that Horatio was still alive and thus there was no reason to cry, but he could see she was hurting. Kyle spoke to Calleigh about all of this. Between the two of them they managed to persuade Celesta to go to the canteen with them to have a good hearty mail. After that Calleigh got her to wash her face and brush her teeth. But however long they reasoned they couldn't get her home to rest. Marge, the nurse who had felt for Celesta earlier was an unexpected witness to their latest attempt. "Celesta, why don't you sleep on the bed we have in the nurses' station? It's at the endt of the hall way. You'll still be near lt. Caine and you'll be able to get a good night sleep. You cnat do anything for lt Caine when you're tired." This alternative was the perfect solution.

In the meantime Horatio wasn't getting better. This only added to the strain those closest to them were feeling. Julie and Yelina made sure there was always one of them with Horatio. Julia kept informing Celesta about what the doctors told them. Celesta was very grateful to her, especially after she heard Yelina expressively asking Julia to stop repeating everything the doctors said to Celesta. Julia however didn't stop. Because of their frequent talks Julia and Celesta started to get to know each other better. The same could not be said for Yelina and Celesta. Yelina seemed to do her best to avoid her. Though Celesta regretted this a little, she didn't want to force Yelina so she let it be.
