Martin Davis sighed for the tenth time. His wife was being overly dramatic. While it was a trait he found endearing, like all of Luella's antics, he had failed to talk her out of booking tickets to Japan on the next available flight.
Yes Martin worried, because he last remaining son had returned to Japan and was living at a woman's house because someone had broken into Japans SPR. She was a cop, Madoka had told them. Lin had made it clear that they had this under control, and that Naru was not even the target of the break in, but Luella insisted on showing up without notice. Martin didn't blame her, he did worry, but it was too short notice. Martin barely managed to find a replacement to cover his lectures.
"Martin, what if he needs us?" Luella repeated, for what must have been the 10th time in so many days. That hurt look she sent him is why he halted his complaint.
"While I trust Madoka and Lin's ability to handle this, I will not deprive my wife from the chance to see our son" Martin smiled, joining his wife in the taxi to Miss Taniyama's home.
"Come on, lets get you dressed" Naru suggested, knowing that clothes would make her look less venerable. He would respect her wishes, but clothes would help. Naru gave Mai his dry towel, and walked her to her room. Inside Mai's room, Madoka would not intrude at least. When the door shut, Naru kissed her lightly on the forehead. "I love you Mai"
Mai blushed, but smiled none the less. She pushed onto her toes, and kissed Naru again, filled with joy at the words Mai never thought she would hear him say. Naru made no attempt to fight her, and the two where soon tangled in an embrace. Naru pulled away, fighting intense lust, and bit his lip. "I love you too"
"You should put on clothes, you will catch a cold" Naru suggested, walking to the door. "You haven't eaten, I will make you something if you meet me downstairs in about ten minutes"
Mai nodded obediently. Naru smiled, and Mai blushed again. She was completely sucked into Naru's charm, and if this was a dream, she would never want to wake up. Mai smiled back and Naru left her to change. Mai ran to her bathroom, having hid a lot of nightwear in there. Mai picked out a pink, cotton button up shirt, and a matching pair of shorts. Mai felt very childish, but she felt more at ease in them, and her pink dressing gown and fluffy socks.
It was only about 8pm, but Naru sported a pair of dark blue pyjamas too. Mai smiled at him as she walked into the kitchen, and Naru smiled back. "What are you in the mood for?" Naru asked.
"I'm not that picky, chefs choice" Mai assured, going to the kettle to make tea. Naru looked at the choices available to him, and just as he was deciding on a stir fry, the door bell rang. Mai and Naru looked at each other, wondering if it was the stalker suddenly being upfront. They dropped what they were doing and met with Madoka and Lin in the main hall. Mai moved the curtains out the way, and the four of them let out a breath. Mai quickly pressed the buzzer that deactivated the alarms, and unlocked the door.
Martin wondered what his wife planned to do once they arrived. She seemed dead set on seeing her son, but she was about to intrude on a women's home without warning. What where they going to say?
"Martin, my son is in some girls home and I have every right to see him" Luella argued, paying the cab and muttering a 'thank you' in Japanese. Martin hadn't quite mastered the language like she did.
"Please be polite, Lin spoke well of her" Martin reminded. "She may be a very honourable person, just keeping our son safe"
"Madoka spoke very cryptically, they are hiding something" Luella argued, walking to the house and ringing the door bell.
"This house is rather magnificent" Martin comments, before there was movement on the inside of the house. The next thing they knew, there was a beautiful women opening the door. Their son was to the side of her, and Lin and Madoka stood behind her.
"Mrs Davis, Mr Davis?" Mai asked in English, quickly opening the door all the way and inviting the pair in. "I wasn't expecting you"
"Mother, father, shouldn't you have called in advance?" Naru asked, excepting his mothers hug.
"Sorry for the intrusion, but do you know of us?" Martin asked, turning to the girl he had never seen in his life.
"Yes sir, although your reputation precedes you, I actually met you about five years ago when I was working as Oliver's assistant" Mai smiled, bowing. "Its good to see you both again"
"I guess I worried for nothing" Luella admitted shamefully. "I'm sorry for the intrusion, Miss Taniyama"
"You could never intrude, please come in, I was just making tea" Mai smiled.
"We would, but we still have to go to our hotel before we can no longer check in" Luella smiled, wondering if the hotel around the corner would have rooms, they left so last minute that a room was not pre-booked.
"No, I insist you stay here" Mai waved her off. "there is a spare room for you to stay in and it would be absolutely no trouble"
"Are you sure, you hardly know us?" Luella questioned. Mai nodded.
"Very sure, I wouldn't have it any other way" Mai promised. "The only room I have is a single room, so you can stay in my room"
"Mai, they can stay in my room and I will take the single. You are going to take in me and my parents, you could at least stay in your own room" Naru argued, taking his mothers bag.
"Thank you son" Luella thanked, turning to Mai. "Thank you so much for your hospitality Miss Taniyama"
"Please call me Mai" Mai insisted, going to take Martins suitcase, only to have Lin beat her to it. "Sorry for the trouble, my staff work till 8pm so I will change your sheets after some tea"
Mai lead Martin and Luella to the table and sat them down, before turning on the kettle. "Naru was about to make food, have you eaten, did you want anything in particular?"
"Naru?" Martin asked, taking a seat at the table next to his wife.
"Oh sorry, its just a nickname that stuck" Mai blushed, pulling out six cups. "Is earl grey agreeable?"
"Perfect, dear" Luella nodded, smiling shyly. "What does Naru stand for?"
"Narcissist" Madoka answered, and both Luella and Martin smiled. "Mai's idea"
"It was a long time ago" Mai defended, her face flushing. Was Madoka trying to embarrass her? Naru and her could end up being an item, and so Mai needed them to like her.
"Fitting, I'm sure" Martin chuckled, smiling reassuringly. "What did he do to earn such a name?"
"He kept saying his brain worked differently from mine, and kept saying that anyone who thought he was handsome had 'very good taste'" Mai mocked, putting on her best, Naru voice.
"That sounds like our son" Luella sighed. "Has he been a little more grateful since moving in at least?"
Mai blushed, unable to stop her mind from replaying his intrusions and the outcome of such intrusions. Mai brought over the tea, and joined everyone at the table. "We have been getting along fine I guess"
"I would say better then fine" Madoka teased, making Mai send her a weak glare.
"Madoka, stop being so secretive, is Mai dating my son or not" Luella demanded. Mai blanched, wishing she could sink into her chair.
"No!" Mai tried, blushing worse. "Miss Davis, its not like that"
"Call me Luella dear" Luella smiled, drinking the tea. "I was worried at first but our son knows what he is doing, and you seem like a perfectly lovely girl"
"Thank you Luella" Mai thanked shyly, bowing her head.
"So you are with our son?" Martin asked, noticing how Mai did not rebut Luella's compatibility review.
"Huh?" Mai froze, watching as Naru walked in behind her.
"Nothing has been discussed" Naru shrugged.
"But they were making out in the hot tube" Madoka whispered, so everyone could hear.
"You saw that?!" Mai cried, turning beat red.
"Mai we walked in, what do you mean did we see that, of course we did" Madoka spoke, a little confused. Lin choked, trying to cover his laugh with a cough.
"Madoka, I think Miss Taniyama was talking about a different time" Lin explained, to which both of them laughed. Mai blushed harder, hiding her face in her hand. Naru looked rather comfortable considering. Luella and Martin smiled warmly. Martin was quick to the rescue.
"This is a beautiful home you have, did you inherit it?" Martin asked, rather impressed by the sheer size and style of it.
"No, I only moved in after saving from two jobs" Mai answered, grateful for the distraction. "I got it cheap because of the homicide that left people believing it was haunted" Mai saw the slight spark in Martins eyes. "I couldn't sense anything, so I moved in"
"You work two jobs?" Luella asked, narrowly beating Martin asking about what Mai meant by 'sensing anything'. She knew he would ask, but was a little more interested in the more human side of Mai.
"I am an investigator, and highly regarded for my 'animal instincts'" Mai explained, shooting Naru a look. "And I sometimes do modelling, not full time, but whenever I'm needed"
"Thought you could be a model, you are a very beautiful girl" Luella complimented.
"Thank you very much" Mai blushed. "Please, let me give you a tour. You are my guests so, please feel free to make yourself at home"
Mai started with the rooms on the floor, including the pool, the lounge, the hall and the dining room. Mai then showed them the security room, the winery and the steam room. Mai had expressed that they should feel free to use the faculties, and to help themselves to the wine. Mai then showed them the rooms upstairs. Mai was not completely willing to open the door to the hot tube, because of the pictures hidden behind the curtains and the massage tables. Best not. Madoka however, had no such qualms.
"This is an interesting room" Luella commented, trying to see something behind the curtain, but being unable to.
"It came with the house" Mai defended quickly.
"It's ok dear" Luella assured, taking a peak behind the curtain. "Wow"
"Mother, Mai looks rather uncomfortable" Naru pointed out, as Mai covered her mouth from screaming in embarrassment.
"Please let me show you another room" Mai pleaded, and Luella smiled, muttered a 'sorry' and followed Mai to her room. Mai opened the door, and allowed both Luella and Martin to enter. Her room was pristine, and nothing would embarrass her in here. "Luella, I get gifted a lot of clothes and many are still new, I am sure I could find a swimsuit you could have, should you want to use the pool"
"Are you sure?" Luella asked, following Mai as she led her to her walk in closet. "Oh wow, these clothes are so glamorous" Luella gushed, looking at some of the silk dressing, dress suits, swim suits, skirts, blouses, hats, jeans, and so many pairs of shoes. At the back of the wardrobe was Mai's work clothes, all black, and behind that, all of Mai's preferred clothing.
"I have these ones that I have never worn" Mai said, picking out three different swimsuits, hung up and looking new. One red bikini, a one piece black swimsuit that just joined the top to the bottom but was not anymore covering, and a blue skirted one that was as modest as it was stylish.
"Pick the red one!" Madoka called, to which both Lin and Naru looked away awkwardly.
"They all look lovely dear, I like the blue one" Martin smiled, watching as Naru sighed in relief.
"I agree" Luella smiled. "Thank you Mai sweetie"
"Sorry Doctor Davis, I don't have anything that would fit you, but I could order you something for tomorrow morning" Mai encouraged.
"No need, I brought swimwear just in case I was dragged to a bathhouse" Martin smiled. Mai smiled back, and Naru found it endearing.
Mai lead them to Naru's old room, and upon opening the door, Mai noticed the sheets had been changed and the room had been cleaned. "Me and Lin got the room ready" Naru shrugged.
"Thank you, you didn't have to do that" Mai bowed.
"Raised my son well" Luella smiled, patting Lin on the shoulder. It was a bit of a feet since Lin was a lot taller then her. "Lin was always wonderful"
"That he is" Mai agreed, to which Madoka gave Mai a fake protective look. Mai rolled her eyes, and Madoka laughed good-heartedly.
Mai then lead her guests to the last room, the library. Martin found himself quickly in his element. Mai had a desk in the middle of the room, with a computer set up, and a dozen books that looked new. "I have new books ordered every two weeks, I haven't had a chance to put them away. Excuse the mess"
"Look Oliver, those are your books" Madoka pointed out, picking up the top three books in the pile.
"I read a lot of books on parapsychology, including all of Doc Davis papers" Mai gushed, trying not to be embarrassed.
"I approve of this one Oliver" Martin smiled, puffing up his chest in pride. "We have much to discuss Mai"
"Maybe we should wait till everyone has eaten" Mai suggested, leading the way back to the kitchen.
"What is everyone in the mood for, I will order something in?" Mai suggested.
"Mai, you are the host, maybe you should pick" Naru suggested, to which everyone nodded in agreement.
"I really like the little English café down the street... 'The rose' something or other" Mai found the menu in one of the draws. "It doesn't deliver but I will go pick some food up if you all tell me what you want"
"Sounds perfect" Madoka cheered, giving the menu and once over and started to write down her order, then everyone else's.
"I will go with you" Naru decided, grabbing his coat.
"If you trust my driving skills" Mai jested, waving off everyone as they reached into their bags. "It's on me"
"Mai let me" Martin tried, handing his son his card. "You are saving us more on a hotel room"
Naru took the card, knowing that both his father and Mai would be stubborn on the issue. Naru quickly took Mai's hand and pulled her out the kitchen. "Thanks"
"N-Naru!" Mai scolded, blushing as she was pulled to the hall. "Hey!" Mai went to pull away when Naru silenced her by kissing her. Mai blushed, but knew no one else could see them.
"Come on" Naru coaxed, not letting go of Mai's hand. "I think I should drive-"
