"Goddamit Skarlet, what did you do?" Kenshi muttered in grief.
He was at the top of the pyramid, after it started raining blood and his wound began healing at an incredible pace. He found Skarlet's dead, kneeling body and could hardly believe it. Suddenly, he heard crying, the crying of a child. Kenshi looked past Skarlet's body, and found a naked crying baby. He cradled it in his arms protectively.
"Its a girl…."
8 years later, Earthrealm
"Don't cross yet Uncle Kenshi, hold my hand."
"Alright Ruby, I'm trusting you."
Of course Kenshi could hear the cars driving on the street, but he let Ruby play guardian angel.
"Okay, lets go!"
Ruby tugged his hand and they crossed. More children ran past them to rush into the school.
"Alright kiddo, hold up."
Kenshi knelt down and asked her if she had pencils and markers and rulers, all the while getting the chance to see her. She was tall and athletic for her age, with sharp features. He was told she had brilliant red hair and striking green eyes.
"You're gonna have a good day right."
"Like always Uncle, can I go now? I'm gonna be late!"
"Alright Ruby, get going."
Ruby ran into the school to find that she was evidently late, because no one was in the halls. She found the bulletin board that had students assigned to homerooms.
"So many names!" Ruby said with frustration.
"I know right!" A woman said, coming to her.
Ruby thought she was very pretty. She wore track pants and a tank top, with her hair tied in a pony tail with two locks hanging in front of her eyes.
"You're eyes are red!" Ruby gasped.
"I'm wearing contacts, I think they're cool. I'm the gym teacher here, Scarlet. Whats your name hun?"
"I'm Ruby, I'm trying to find my home room."
Scarlet looked through the list.
"Only one Ruby here, you're definitely special. You're class is with Mr. E.R. Mac."
Scarlet walked Ruby to her class. After knocking, a man opened the door dressed in a suit and tie. He had a stern look about him.
"You are Ruby, I presume?" He asked.
"Um, yes."
He knelt down and Ruby shied away. Then he smiled, and it was warm and unexpected.
"I'm excited to meet you Ruby, you're the only girl in the whole school with that name. I'm lucky to have you. Why don't you go find a seat and we'll get started?"
"Okay, bye Scarlet!"
"See you in gym class huh!"
Ruby left the two adults in awkward silence.
"You know, I had a bad feeling when you dropped that 'I presume' line on her, but you recovered pretty well I think."
"I like to pleasantly surprise people, especially co workers Scarlet."
"Speaking of co workers, what do I call you? Whats with all the letters?"
"…..Edgar, Richie, Macdonald." Edgar replied with embarrassment.
"Oh, I'm definitely going with Edgar. Anyway, Edgar I'm happy to share a coffee with you in the lounge any time."
"In the lounge? Not outside after work?"
"Are you asking me out already?"
"Um…."
"Say yes." Scarlet said, smiling.
"Hah. Yes, yes I am."
