So just knowing Gandalfs character I dont think he'd explain to the others how he survived so I'm just going to say that my explanation of it was that before hitting the ground he used magic to teleport himself a short distance and land safely but not without injury where he was rescued by the eagles and clothed in white etc just like in the original story.

The army was huge, the biggest Kili had ever seen, but a sinking feeling in his chest told the prince that they would still be outnumbered.

"How will we find our friends?" He asked Thorin as they looked down at the camp in the valley below.

There were thousands of people, Elves and even Dwarves milling about, there was no telling one from another at the distance. That is until, Kili spotted something, or more correctly, some one, all dressed in white.

"Saruman!" He hissed, "Look, there on the white horse!"

Kili could see his uncle cursing internally, they'd wandered right into enemy hands! But then Kili remembered this army was made of humans and their comrades, not orcs like Saruman would have. He couldn't possibly have turned all these people to the side of Mordor could he?

Suddenly there was a shout, a man next to Saruman had spotted them and was running their way. Without thinking both Thorin and Kili drew their swords, but their attacker did not. It was only when they got closer that Kili realized they weren't being attacked at all.

"Thorin! Kili!" Aragorn smiled, "Where have you been all this time!?"

"Aragorn!" Kili was so happy to their human friend he didn't notice the figure in white approaching too.

"Gandalf said we'd see you both again!" Aragorn continued, "We've been worried, where is Fili and Bilbo? They're not..."

"Gandalf?" Thorin coughed, "But Gandalf-"

"Is here." The wizard interjected, Kili almost swallowed his tongue in shock.

"Gandalf..." he breathed, indeed, what he'd mistaken for Saruman was their friend, his beard was shorter and his hair much neater and of course his grey robes were gone and replaced with white ones. He looked very different but it was Gandalf without a doubt.

"But how is this possible?" Thorin asked his voice barely above a whisper, "We saw you fall..."

"Yes I'm sure you did, but eyes are tricky things." Gandalf smiled, Kili saw his uncle frown with annoyance. Some how Kili didn't think they'd ever get the full story out of him, when did they ever?

Gandalf's face began to mirror Thorin's when he noticed the absence of two Durins.

"Fili went with Bilbo into Mordor." Thorin replied, "We need to force the armies out here to fight us, give them a chance, even if it is a slim one."

"What do you think we bought the army for?" Aragorn grinned.

-oOo-

Bilbo and Fili held their breath as they dressed themselves in the orc armor. It stank of the dead bodies they'd taken it from but at least their smell would mask their natural, not orc, scent from others.

Bilbo had wanted to stay and look through the masses of dead flesh to look for his crystal ball but Fili had just shaken his head. His belongings had been dispersed in the fight and his precious gift was probably under some orc. His rabbit had indeed been smashed into pieces which made his heart ache but Fili assured him that he'd carve another for him.

"When?" Bilbo whispered feeling dejected.

"When we get home to Erebor of course." Fili replied, Bilbo just looked up at his brother sadly and didn't say a word.

The weight of the armor was almost too much for the Hobbit when added to the already excruciating weight of the Ring around his neck. He was glad for Fili's leadership, he could focus on keeping one foot in front of the other rather than on his path.

"Come it is time for battle!"

The great war cries echoed into the black sky as legions of orcs began to appear, marching for the Black Gate and sweeping the two much smaller beings with them.

"Keep a hold of me." Fili whispered, grabbing Bilbo's hand, "We can't risk loosing each other."

Bilbo nodded, they did their best to march in time with the army, for a while Bilbo was concerned they would realize they were much too short to be orcs. After a few moment though it became apparent that Mordor's army was much to excited about the prospect of battle to notice them, not even when they inched their way to the edge of the group and separated themselves at the foot of the mountain.

"We just need to reach the summit now." Bilbo breathed, he could hardly believe that after all this time he was finally here, at the edge of Mount Doom.

The two brothers looked up at the blackened mountain, lit only by the red light of the great Eye of Sauron and it's own fire.

"Well, how hard can that be?" Fili breathed, Bilbo couldn't bring himself to laugh.

Hey Guys! I am so sorry this chapter is late and that it's so short. I've just been so busy lately.

There was meant to be another scene in this chapter but I just don't have the time to write it right now. I figured I'd upload this chapter a little bit shorter just to make up for the wait, I promise the next chapters will be longer and hopefully uploaded faster!
