I hope you enjoy the chapter! Happy fourth of July to my fellow Americans! And oh my gosh! I can't believe its already chapter 25! I am also sorry for the super long over due update, thanks for being patient with me.

Percy's POV:

It has been several since I returned home and Zoe's first birthday was tomorrow. I stared at the canine companions paperwork, the idea of being able to be completely independent again made me excited. Annabeth was sipping on her coffee while typing away on her computer, both of us wanting to stay together as much as possible. I was still getting used to the prosthetics, but I am finally able to walk around when I want. Though it is tiring and I choose my chair when I know, I'll have to walk a lot.

Zoe was trying to start walking and was growing up so fast. I signed the rest of the papers, "okay, I feel like I was productive today."

Annabeth raised an eyebrow, "by signing papers after waking up at ten; we still have to go shopping for Zoe's birthday party tomorrow. So hurry up and get ready."

I smiled at her but wheeled myself to our bedroom, "yeah, yeah, I'm going." Thank the gods that we had a one story house and my dad and Paul built a ramp, so Annabeth didn't have to carry me up the stairs to get me inside. I was getting a driving evaluation and hopefully will drive again. We renovated the bathroom by adding a shower chair and bars so I could do it on my own. I quickly dressed and made my way to the kitchen.

"Are we ready to go?"

"Dada!" I looked down at Zoe who was trying to stand to her feet. I pulled her into my lap; she was giggling as she played with my shirt. Annabeth put Zoe in the car as I climbed into my seat, it was still a struggle, but I didn't want the help. When we pulled into the parking lot, an elderly woman frowned at the car when Annabeth stepped out first. It was always like that until they noticed I was there. You would think with having the disabled vet plates people wouldn't do that, but people can be ignorant. I smiled at the woman as I climbed into my chair when Annabeth placed it by the car. Zoe giggling as if being outside was the most amazing thing in the world.

"Okay, so we need hamburger meat, buns, drinks, and different kinds of sides," Annabeth said as her eyebrows furrowed. I smiled at her, gods I will never leave her. Annabeth and Zoe were both my world. Missing Zoe's birth would be something that I will never forgive myself for.

People kept staring, and that was something that was starting to get on my nerves. Especially the adults who should know better, kids I understand they are just curious. The one thing I have noticed is people to don't address me but talk to Annabeth as if she will speak for me. I just don't understand how putting me in a wheelchair makes me incapable of talking for myself. Annabeth pushed the cart while I wheeled beside her, putting things in that I could reach while she got the stuff off the upper shelves.

"Momma, what happened to that guy's legs?" A child who was walking by asked. Her eyes were wide as she stared at me. She was quickly pulled away by her mother, "I am so sorry she-"

I shook my head, "It's fine."

Annabeth smiled at the mother, "maybe try teaching how it isn't polite to stare." I smirked at Annabeth's saltiness. I knew she was tired of the stares and whispers too. It seemed to follow us everywhere.

I laughed when she was out of our sight, "you didn't have to be rude."

Annabeth smiled, "I did too, she could have made it a teaching moment but instead pulled her daughter away as if being curious is the worst thing ever." We continued shopping, and Annabeth would glare at anyone who would keep looking at us.

"Happy birthday dear Zoe, happy birthday to you!" Everyone finished and laughed when Zoe started to eat the birthday cake. It was all over her face and shirt. My mom was taking pictures like crazy along with Helen. Both were making kissing noises to get Zoe to look at the camera.

Annabeth sat on my lap as we ate and talked to everyone, Jonas and Naomi walked in, "Sorry that we are late the twins were having a bad morning." They each held a baby and the two girls by their side.

I smiled, "excuses Jonas."

He sat next to me, "you calling me a liar?"

Annabeth rolled her eyes and stood, "I'm going to talk to Naomi while you two be idiots."

"See what you did Jonas?"

"What I did? You started it!"

I leaned over making sure Annabeth couldn't hear me, "shut the fuck up Jonas."

He undid my breaks and pushed me away with his foot, "Hey!" I said as I rolled back over and shoved his shoulder both of us laughing. I missed this; everyone is finally treating me normally.

"Hey, we should get the guys together!"

Will smiled, "I haven't seen any of them in a while, that'll be fun."

I nodded, "yeah, we should." I was a little nervous, many men were hurt that day, and their lives were my responsibility.

I felt Annabeth press a kiss to my cheek, "it's present time."

I tilted my head back to look at her, "I think you missed."

Rolling her eyes, she pressed her lips on mine before straightening back up, "come one. Jonas Naomi wants you to change Alex's diaper."

Jonas sighed, "Of course, I'm on poop duty."

By the time everyone left, and Zoe was put down for the night Annabeth and I were exhausted. We laid in our bed staring at the ceiling. "I can't believe she's one already."

"Me neither. It feels like yesterday when I woke up." I rolled over to look at her. Her grey eyes met mine.

"Yeah, it feels the same way to me especially when I got that call. I can remember everything that was going on, how Reyna was so excited, and you could hear it in her tone." I pulled her closer, and she rested her head on my shoulder.

"When are you going to go back the office to work?"

"I think when you can get your car. The evaluation is next week, and it shouldn't be long by then."

I nodded, "that's a good plan. And then maybe if I get the service dog I'll get a job."

She smiled, "you'll get accepted and receive the service dog. I'm sure it will help a lot since you can't really bend over to pick things up when you are using your prosthetics."

"I can't wait to start feeling like my self," I said as my eyes drooped, fluttering closed.

(1 year later)

"Annabeth, do you have our bags in the car already?" We were driving an hour and a half to start the two-week training for canine companions. I was driving which felt nice. My car was a Honda Odessy with a ramp for when I'm in my chair or am having a bad day of not being able to transfer. Then hand controls and a normal seat to just transfer into. Zoe was in my lap as I rolled into the car, I put her in the car seat.

"Okay, I think I have everything. Did you pack all your meds?"

I rolled my eyes, "yes, I did. You even tripled checked last night when we packed."

Annabeth smiled, "I just want to make sure we are prepared."

After the first week of team training, we were finally being paired up with our dogs. In our team training class, there were three others. A young boy who had autism was getting a facility dog, a man who lost his leg to cancer, a girl who was parallelized. Everyone was excited and Zoe kept babbling about a puppy. "And Percy Jackson is matched with Yoshi!"

"Puppy!" Zoe yelled and everyone laughed.

Annabeth laughed, "yes, it is a puppy!" Yoshi was one of the larger dogs since I was so tall, she was a black lab.

The last week went by so fast, and we were finally going home. Team training was exhausting, it felt like the commands were mashed in my brain and there was a lot of "field trips" to have practice with going in public. Things were finally feeling like they were back to normal. When we were home ,there was definitely an adjustment period with Yoshi. She was like a completely different dog when she was on duty and off duty. Although her and Zoe were getting along great, the "oh look it's a puppy!" in public was something that I had to get used to.

Annabeth and I decided we needed a much-needed date night. I was strapping both of my prosthetics on and getting Yoshi ready, "Yoshi, dress!" I held her vest open and she ran to me her tail wagging as she stuck her head into the vest. I buttoned my grey dress shirt and walked into the dining room, "ready to go?" I asked.

Annabeth turned around, "well don't you clean up good."

I smiled, "so do you." I kissed her and when we pulled away she was smiling, a blush dusting her cheeks.

We pulled into the parking lot of a new fancy restaurant, Zoe was with Jonas and Naomi. We walked in and the waitress welcomed us until she spotted Yoshi, "I'm sorry but we don't allow pets here.

I shook my head, "she's a service dog." She scoffed and I decided to raise both pant legs, "as you can see I'm disabled." Annabeth snorted.

"Oh, I'm so sorry sir. I'll show you to your table."

"I do want to say something though, next time don't scoff, some disabilities are invisible." Although she should have noticed since apparently to Annabeth and Thalia ,I walk weird with the prosthetics.

"Yes sir, I'm so sorry. Right, this way."

She led us to a booth, "Yoshi under." Yoshi slid underneath the table half of her body was slightly sticking out from the table. Well, she was a large dog and did the best she could with the space she had.

This night was a night that I never want to forget. It was also the first night since two years Annabeth and I were finally alone. A two-year-old was definitely time-consuming. But I enjoy every second of it, and wouldn't trade anything in the world over having a family.
