A Leap of Faith
Chapter 25
Kurt walked down the mall corridor seeing store after store. But none seemed quite right.
Find a present for Blaine. Find a present for Blaine.
That was the only thing on his mind. Find the store for the perfect present for Blaine. But no store seemed right for a gift. He saw shoppers here and there, who had obviously been shopping at clothing departments. But for Blaine, he didn't want to get clothes. He wanted something else. That much he knew.
Kurt walked for a few minutes and a store finally caught his eye. It caught his attention mainly because of the way it was decorated.
It was decorated to look just like a small cabin; it felt welcoming inside. The walls were done to look like actual logs and the lights inside were dimmed to give off a faded, orange color to the atmosphere. The store was small and Kurt could see a fireplace towards the back. The place was lonely. No one was there, just the cashier who was reading a magazine on the counter in the front. Kurt figured the store was lonely because everyone else was at the bigshot stores getting electronics and outfits.
Kurt walked into the store and looked at the stands around him.
"Hello," the cashier welcomed as she saw Kurt.
"Hello," Kurt smiled back.
"If you need any help, I'll be right here."
"Thank you, but I'm just looking."
Kurt realized it was a merchandise store. A souvenir shop. The store had items of all shapes and themes. Items you would usually see on a bookcase or on top of a fireplace.
He loved everything here. He saw snow globes, miniature statues of animals, tea sets and so much more. He was pretty sure he was not going to find anything worthy of a Christmas present for Blaine here but he liked what this store was selling. Maybe he'll buy something for himself instead.
Kurt looked at a shelf in front of him and picked up a small cylinder that caught his eye. It was light brown and had a small hole in one end. Kurt looked into the hole and saw a picture of the stars up in space.
"That's really cool," he commented with a smile.
He put the cylinder down and looked at the aisle across from him and saw the word SPORTS hanging above. Interesting. He walked over and saw all kinds of sports related collectibles. Every major sport was here: basketball, football, soccer, hockey and his favorite, lacrosse. Kurt looked towards the bottom of the shelf and saw a row of cubes made entirely of glass.
He looked closely at the cubes and noticed they all had a white design in the center based on a sport. Kurt looked for the lacrosse cube and found one, just towards the end. The design on the center was a lacrosse stick, the stick that players used to catch and throw the ball back and forth between each other. Kurt carefully picked up the glass cube and looked at it. Right under the lacrosse stick were the words 'My Number One Player.'
He smiled.
Blaine.
Blaine was his number one. He could give him this as a gift! How perfect!
Kurt stepped back and looked around. Okay, he might be onto something. He looked to his right and saw a large basket with a bunch of stuffed animals inside. Each animal had a sports related outfit on. Kurt dug through the basket and was hoping to find one lacrosse related. And then he found it.
In his hand was a light brown, almost tan colored, teddy bear who was wearing a red shirt with the word LACROSSE on it. The teddy bear had on a lacrosse helmet and had a lacrosse stick around his arm. This was the perfect second part gift for Blaine. Kurt could get the glass cube and the teddy bear. Plus he could get a picture frame of his favorite photo of them and write Blaine a really cute letter about how much he means to him. This was perfect!
Kurt walked up to the cashier and placed the gifts on the counter.
"Did you find everything okay?" the cashier asked with a warm smile.
"Yeah, I did," Kurt answered.
The cashier was a young, college aged girl. Someone you would not expect to be here on Black Friday and would be the one doing the shopping and not the other way around.
Kurt looked at the price of the glass cube and the bear all together. It was originally thirty dollars but because of the Black Friday sales it came to thirteen dollars. While Kurt got out his wallet, the girl wrapped the glass cube in bubble wrap.
"This is very cute," the girl said. "Are you getting it for someone?"
Kurt nodded. "Yeah… it's for someone special." Kurt didn't realize it but he was blushing just thinking about Blaine.
The girl looked at him and noticed. "I can see you blushing."
Kurt chuckled. "Thinking of him makes me do that."
"What's his name?" the girl asked with a smile.
"His name's Blaine," Kurt said. "He's my boyfriend."
"I figured," the girl smiled. "I'm assuming Blaine plays lacrosse?"
"Yeah, he's actually the best player our school has ever had."
"Wow, so you got him a really good gift here. I don't know Blaine much but I'm pretty sure he's going to love this gift."
"Thank you," Kurt smiled. He knew Blaine would like it. It was a perfect gift. It had Blaine's favorite sport, the words inside the cube were true and the teddy bear added a whole level of cuteness. And Kurt could not wait to give it to him.
… … …
Blaine looked at the time on his phone.
1:45 AM
It had been an hour and 45 minutes since they all arrived to the mall. By now he assumed all his friends and Kurt had done some shopping. He put his phone away and left the fifth store of the night.
Tonight had been very busy. It was the perfect night to get Christmas presents for almost everyone. He had gifts for his two best friends, Ethan and Scott, and he even got something for Lucy and Kira. He got his parents gifts and got his grandmother three things. He thought about his other family members a gift but he'll have to come another time. And of course, he got gifts for the most special person he knew. The one person that always made him smile…
Suddenly his phone started to ring. He looked at the caller ID and saw it was Ethan.
"Hey, what's up?" Blaine answered the phone.
"Are you done shopping yet?" Ethan asked.
"I am for tonight. I'm gonna continue shopping for more stuff probably next week." Blaine sat down close to the mall indoor fountain which was next to the restaurant hall. He should wait here, just like they all agreed. Blaine looked up and saw the spraying water of the fountain as it rose up to the second floor, almost reaching the glass ceiling above.
"Well you're done for the night, right?" Ethan asked.
"Yeah, I am. Did you want something?" Blaine asked with a smile. He knew his friend when he wanted something.
"Yeah, I need a big favor."
"I am not spying on Lucy and following her around the mall and tell you what she likes at what store," Blaine told him.
"Why not?"
"Because what if she catches me? Then what will I say?" Blaine looked up at glass ceiling and saw the crescent moon in the dark sky.
"You come up with a lie. Tell her you're shopping for your mom. Anyway, that's not the favor I was going to ask you for."
"Okay then, what were you going to ask me?" Blaine asked.
"I was going to ask you, what is Kurt's favorite color?" Ethan asked.
"It's blue. Why and how is that a big favor?" Blaine asked.
"Well because I'm at Macy's right now and I found this really great shirt that I know Kurt will like. But it comes in red or blue. So I was just wondering which he would like better."
"Aww, you're getting Kurt a gift?" Blaine asked with a smile.
"Well yeah, he's my friend too. I'm getting all my friends something," Ethan said. "Except you. I'm not getting you anything."
"Ha, ha. You're funny," Blane sarcastically laughed.
"And my favor is, you can't tell Kurt I'm getting him a gift. Keep it to yourself," Ethan said.
"I promise I won't tell him." Blaine looked to his right and saw Kurt walking towards him. "Hey, I'll talk you later," Blaine said into the phone as he hanged up.
"Hey," Kurt went up and sat right next to Blaine.
"Did you get some shopping done?" Blaine asked, looking at the three shopping bags in Kurt's hand.
"I did," Kurt answered. "I got some Christmas presents for my parents and Finn."
"That's good," Blaine said. "I did too. My whole family. But I might come back later another time when the stores get more stuff."
Kurt looked up from where he was sitting and saw both Kira and Lucy walking towards them. Kira had in her hand a long, black, hard-plastic bag the size of her body. Kurt could easily assume what was in there. "I'm going to assume you found a dress?" he asked.
"Yeah, I found one. Look." Kira unzipped the bag and inside was her dress for the formal. It was a long, dark purple, strapless dress. At the bottom of the dress, a lighter lavender color was present. The two colors mixed in the middle and combined to give the dress a nice winter feel
"The dress is beautiful," Kurt told her.
"It will match great with Scott's suit," Blaine told her.
Kira zipped up the bag and smiled. "That's my favorite part. It matches well with Scott's outfit and it looks stunning."
"Good thing you found a dress," Blaine commented.
"The day before the formal," Kurt pointed out. "You got lucky."
"Speaking of the devil," Blaine said, looking behind the girls.
Both Kira and Lucy turned around and saw Scott, a bunch of bags in his arms. He ran up to the group of friends and hugged his girlfriend. "Is everyone done?" he asked.
"We are. And Scott, guess what?" Kira said holding up the black, hard-plastic bag. "I found the perfect dress."
Kira unzipped the bag and showed Scott the dark purple, lavender dress. They both smiled. "That's great!" Scott exclaimed. "We'll be matching."
Blaine turned to look at Kurt. "You have your suit, right? For the formal?"
"I do," Kurt answered. "And I can't wait for you to see me in it."
Blaine exhaled. "Hey, I know we never talked about it, but you're excited about the formal, right?"
Kurt nodded. "Yeah, I'm so stoked. Why wouldn't I be excited?"
"Well because you told me you hardly wen to these dances. You said you usually liked staying home in your pajamas, watching TV."
Kurt chuckled. "I do like doing that stuff. But that's because I never had a date to take to these dances. And now, I do."
Blaine looked into Kurt's eyes and smiled. "You sure do." He smiled into Kurt's eyes and knew. He knew he would have the best night with him.
… … …
A light blue buttoned shirt and a black tie that matched his dark dress pants and shoes.
Kurt was ready for tonight.
He looked at his bedroom mirror and adjusted his tie. Tonight was the night of the Winter Formal and he couldn't be any more excited. For the very first time he had a boyfriend, someone he can take to these kind of things. Usually he would go as a third wheel with Finn and Rachel but today he would be going with Blaine.
He was nervous but happy at the same time.
He stepped back a few feet away from the mirror to see his entire full body in his nice suit. Now for the finishing touch. He went to his closet and grabbed the suit's jacket that went along with it. The kind of jacket tuxedos had. He put it on and looked at the mirror.
He was ready.
"You look great," a voice behind him said.
Kurt turned around and saw his mom, Carol, standing by the bedroom door.
"Thanks," Kurt smiled. "I decided to go with a light blue vest considering it's a winter formal. Are you sure I look great?"
Carol walked up to Kurt and stood right next to him. "You look extremely handsome. Blaine is going to love how dashing you look," Carol told him.
They both looked at their reflections in the mirror and smiled.
"I'm honestly a little nervous about tonight," Kurt told her.
"Nervous? Why's that?" Carol asked.
Kurt let out a deep breath. "Because… this is my first dance I'm going to… with Blaine. With a boyfriend. I've never had a date to these things. I've always been single."
"That's what's you're thinking about?" Carol asked chuckling.
"Well I don't know what to expect."
Carol looked at her son in the eyes. "Just have fun. Things are going to go great. You and Blaine will have a great night. If it helps you, just remember that Blaine is the star lacrosse player at your school. So no one will be hating on you. Just breathe and relax."
Kurt smiled. "You're right."
"A mom always is."
Just then Burt showed up at the door, a camera in his hand. "Hey guys, Blaine is here."
Kurt noticed the camera his father had. "Dad, please tell me you are not gonna be one of those parents that takes a lot of pictures."
"Maybe. Kurt this is your first and last high school Winter Formal. I want to remember this day. And I guarantee you will too," Burt said.
His dad knew him so well. The three of them walked downstairs to the front door and when Kurt walked down the stairs, he caught sight of the most beautiful man he knew.
Blaine.
Blaine was wearing a white and black tuxedo. He looked gorgeous. Stunning. Beautiful. No words to describe how extraordinary he looked. With his beautiful, curly hair and strong posture, Blaine was what people described as Prince Charming.
Kurt walked up to him and smiled. "You look beautiful," Kurt told him, a big smile on his face.
"Not as beautiful as you" Blaine smiled back.
Both of them stared at each other, admiring and loving the beautiful man standing in front of them.
"Okay, let's get some pictures," Burt interrupted.
Blaine and Kurt stood right next to each other and smiled for the camera, making different poses to the camera. They took serious, romantic pictures such as arms around each other, Blaine's arms around Kurt, Kurt's around Blaine, the two holding hands. They also took silly pictures, making funny faces, sticking out tongues and Burt's favorite, Kurt and Blaine laughing as they looked at each other.
Burt took many pictures they actually lost track of how many he took. Towards the end, Kurt turned to Blaine and realized something. He had forgotten to kiss Blaine hello. When he saw Blaine he had been so struck by how beautiful he looked, he forgot to kiss him.
"Okay," Burt said putting down the camera. "I think I got enough pictures."
"Wait, Dad," Kurt said. "One more picture?"
"Yeah, sure." Burt held up the camera. "Okay, ready?"
Blaine smiled and stood up straight and Kurt put his arm around Blaine's waist.
"Okay guys," Burt said. "On three. One… two… three…"
When Burt said three, Kurt turned to Blaine and kissed him gently on the lips, keeping his lips on his for a few seconds.
Click. Burt took the picture.
When they parted away, Blaine opened his eyes and smiled at Kurt.
"I forgot to kiss you hello," Kurt told him.
Blaine was left speechless and smiling at Kurt's surprise.
Burt put down the camera. "I'm gonna get these uploaded as soon as possible." Burt set the camera down on the table just as Carol gave both Blaine and Kurt a goodbye hug.
"Okay, remember to have a great time," Carol told them.
"No problem, Carol," Blaine assured her.
Kurt opened the door and waved goodbye to both his parents. He couldn't wait for the night to begin.
… … …
The two boys arrived to the hotel parking lot and could see the entrance lighted up with winter colors. They saw hundreds of cars and tons of students all arriving for the night.
Kurt took a deep breath.
"Are you nervous?" Blaine asked.
"Kinda," Kurt confessed. "It's like I told you, it's my first dance with a date and what if – what if no one likes what I'm wearing." Kurt looked at his vest. "Maybe I should have worn a different kind of blue. Maybe light blue is not for this occasion. Or what if everyone is lying and secretly doesn't like that I'm dating you!?" What if…"
Blaine leaned closer and kissed Kurt's lips to stop him from talking. Blaine's lips made him forget things easily. These lips… these lips that made him feel so happy and smile and feel loved.
They broke away and Kurt chuckled. "That was – a very romantic way of telling me to shut up."
Blaine chuckled back and grabbed Kurt's hand. "Let's go show everyone in that ballroom who the cutest couple is."
"You and me?" Kurt asked smiling.
"You and me," Blaine clarified.
The two got out of the car and walked hand in hand to the ballroom entrance, already hearing the loud music playing inside. When they entered the ballroom, they saw white and silver balloons everywhere. Snowflake ornaments hanged from the ceiling and beautiful yellow, glowing, Christmas lights covered the walls. The boys looked at the dancefloor and saw a large group of people dancing close to where the DJ was.
"Do you see anyone we talk to?" Blaine asked, over the loud music.
"Umm…" Kurt looked at the dancing crowd and spotted Ethan, Scott and the girls. "I see your friends."
Ethan looked at the entrance and spotted the two. He waved 'hello' as a fast, upbeat song continued playing.
"Let's go say hi," Blaine suggested. "Do you see any of your friends?"
Kurt looked around the room and saw no one from his group of friends. Not many of his friends came to these things. A lot of them preferred to stay at home and watch a movie like him.
The guys arrived to the dance floor and greeted Ethan, Lucy, Scott and Kira.
Hey, guys! How are you!? They all exchanged their usual hellos with hugs and handshakes.
"So glad you guys could make it," Ethan yelled over the loud music.
"Of course! It's our first dance as boyfriends!" Blaine yelled back.
Kurt looked around the room to see if anyone of his friends was here. But no one. He knew Finn and Rachel were coming, but when he and Blaine left the house, Finn was still getting ready.
Lucy leaned closer to Blaine so he could hear her. "We saved you and Kurt both seats! We're sitting at a table over there." Lucy pointed to a table which neither Kurt nor Blaine could see where.
Blaine looked at the direction. "Where!?"
"Here, I'll go with you!" Lucy told them. She turned to Ethan. "I'm gonna take Kurt and Blaine to our table. I'll be right back!"
"Okay!" Ethan said back as he continued dancing.
Lucy led Blaine and Kurt to a table not too far from where they were. The three of them sat down and looked at the dancefloor, immediately catching a glimpse of Ethan who was moving his head and arms in all directions.
"You look amazing, Lucy!" Kurt said, loving Lucy's long, lavender, dazzling dress.
"Thank you, Kurt. You look amazing as well!" she smiled.
Blaine leaned closer. "Have you, Ethan and the others been here for a long time!?"
"Kinda. We've been here for about an hour. So not too long," she answered.
Blaine turned to look at the buffet that was on the other side of the room. "Have you guys eaten yet?" he asked.
Lucy shook her head. "We haven't. We were waiting for you and Kurt to arrive."
"That was very nice of you all," Blaine responded.
While Blaine and Lucy talked, Kurt kept his eye out for any of his friends. He looked at the front doors and then he saw them. Finn and Rachel.
The two had just arrived and were hooked by the arms. Finn had on a nice tuxedo while Rachel had on a white, sparkly dress. Kurt waved hello and Rachel saw him. She started walking towards him but Finn gently pulled her back, shaking his head. Kurt could easily assume what they were saying.
Let's go over there and say hello, Rachel would suggest.
No, I'm not going over there. Anderson is there, Finn would reply.
After a few seconds, Finn walked away to another table and left Rachel alone. She waved hello to Kurt and started walking towards him. When Kurt saw this, he only hoped that Finn wasn't angry.
"Hello," Rachel said as she arrived.
Blaine smile. "Hey, Rachel, how are you?"
"I'm good." Rachel smiled and looked at Lucy. "Hey Luz, I haven't seen you in a while," she said sarcastically.
"I know right," Lucy answered back with a sarcastic tone. "How long has it been since we saw each other? Three hours ago?"
Rachel agreed and nodded her head. "Yeah, it was three hours ago."
Kurt looked at the girls confused. "Three hours ago?" he asked.
"We saw each other at the Whole Foods Market today," Lucy told him. "I was there with Ethan getting some groceries for his family."
"And I was there shopping for flowers for my home," Rachel told them.
"Rachel, you should sit down," Blaine insisted. "Talk with us."
Rachel shook her head. "Sorry but I should go over and sit with Finn," she apologized. "But I'll catch up with you guys later."
"No worries. Talk to you later," Blaine told her.
Rachel bid her farewell and started walking away. Kurt stood up from his seat and leaned closer to Blaine. "I'll be right back."
"Okay."
Kurt followed Rachel and caught up to her. "Hey."
"Hey. Are you gonna grab some food?" she asked.
"Not yet," Kurt answered.
Both Kurt and Rachel arrived to the table where Finn was at and Kurt saw he was talking to a few of his friends on the football team. At the table were also Quinn and Puck who had just arrived.
Quinn looked at Rachel. "Berry, I really like your dress."
"Thanks," Rachel appreciated the lovely comment. "I like yours as well," she said, looking at Quinn's long, smooth, pink dress.
Quinn stood up from her seat and looked back at Puck. "I'm going to get some food. I'm hungry."
"I'll go with you," Puck responded, also standing up.
Before walking away, Quinn looked at Kurt. "Hummel, before the dance is over we need to have at least one dance together."
Kurt nodded. "I agree."
Quinn and Puck walked away towards the buffet and Finn came over and nodded hello to Kurt. "Hey Kurt." Finn put his hand on Rachel. "Hey, want to grab some food?"
"Yeah, I'm pretty hungry," Rachel answered.
Kurt and Finn made eye contact and nodded. Kurt turned back around and started walking back to his seat where Ethan and Scott were now at.
"Hey Kurt," both Ethan and Scott greeted him.
"Hey guys." Kurt sat down and looked out into the dancefloor, seeing Blaine, Lucy and Kira dancing in a mob, clearly having a great time.
"Well…" Ethan stood up. "I'm hungry. I'm gonna go get some food. Lucy already told me what she wants."
Ethan walked away to the buffet and Scott shrugged. "I'm hungry too. But I don't know what Kira wants."
"You should be a good boyfriend and wait for her," Kurt said, leaning closer to Scott.
"Of course," Scott smiled.
Kurt looked out into the dancefloor and saw Blaine dancing in a circle.
"So…" Scott said, leaning closer to Kurt. "Kira told me you went shopping for Blaine's Christmas present. What'd you get him?"
"What?" Kurt looked at Scott shocked. Oh no! He knew he got Blaine a Christmas present. That was okay, but he just didn't want Blaine finding out because he wanted it to be a surprise.
"Don't be mad at Kira," Scott said. "She tells me everything."
Kurt chuckled. "I'm not mad at her. Its okay if the whole world knows I got Blaine a present, I just don't want Blaine himself to find out."
Scott smiled. "Don't worry. I won't tell Blaine you got him a present. It's his first Christmas present from a boyfriend. I want it to be special."
Kurt smiled back and thanked him. Suddenly the song that was playing came to an end and the DJ spoke into a microphone.
"Thank you McKinley. Hope you are all having a great night…!"
During the DJ's speech, Blaine, Lucy and Kira returned to the table, panting for breaths since they had clearly been moving in a wild dance.
"Sorry," Blaine apologized. "I had to go up there and dance. My favorite song started playing and I couldn't miss it."
Kurt chuckled. "It's okay. How about we get some food?"
"I agree, we should." Both boys stood up and headed for the buffet tables that were across the room, holding hands all the way.
… … …
The night was turning into a great success. The food was outstanding. Chicken and ham, and on the side, mashed potatoes. There was also a salad bar for people who wanted salads. And for dessert, cookies, cupcakes and three large cakes, put out and all cut into equal small pieces with the words "William McKinley Winter Formal."
The music was also great. It was music that made anyone want to just get up and dance. Even the shyest person in the room would want to get up and have a great time with their friends.
Kurt and Blaine danced a few times in a group with all their friends in the lacrosse team. And since Kurt was boyfriend of the lacrosse captain, everyone liked him. He spoke and bonded with everyone. While Kurt was dancing with Kira and Lucy, he looked up and saw Rachel sitting alone at a table, watching everyone else dance.
"I'll be right back!" Kurt told the girls over the music.
He walked over to Rachel and saw a bored expression on her face.
"Hey," she said, looking up at him.
"Hey, why are you here alone and not dancing?" he asked.
"Well, I don't want to just leave Finn," Rachel said.
Kurt looked at the empty table and saw no Finn. "Well I don't see any Finn right now."
"He went to go get more food with Puck," she said, resting her head on her arm that was on the table.
"Come on, you look bored. Let's go up and dance." He suggested.
"I don't know," Rachel said.
"You just said, I don't know. Which means there's at least a part of you that does want to go up and dance," he smiled. "Come on, please?"
Rachel tried looking away but couldn't. She looked up at him and smiled. "Okay."
"Really? Okay, let's go!" Kurt grabbed Rachel's hand and took her to the dancefloor where Blaine and the others were. Rachel waved hello to Blaine and the rest of the lacrosse players and their girlfriends and they all continued dancing.
After a while, Kurt got thirsty. It was thanks to all the moving and jumping around. He walked to where the snacks and food were and grabbed a water bottle from the coolers. He opened it and clenched his thirst. He looked around the dancefloor and saw everyone having a great time.
The water was good but he was still very hot. He was sweating from his forehead and needed some fresh, cool air from outside. He walked to the front doors and left the ballroom, feeling the cool air of the night.
That hit the spot.
Kurt walked over to the large fountain that was outside the patio and sat on the edge, feeling the nice cool water with the tip of his fingers. He looked down and noticed there were lots of coins in the water, all from people who had thrown them in there to make a wish.
He reached into his pocket, searching for a coin. He knew he had change. He bought a pack of gum and mints before coming to the dance and he got change in return from the cashier. There! He got one. It was a quarter. He thought carefully of his wish.
Okay! He thought of one. On three…
One… Two… Three…
He closed his eyes and let go of the coin as he threw it into the fountain.
"You're very superstitious," a familiar, soothing voice said.
Kurt looked up and saw Blaine sitting right next to him on the edge.
"You've made two wishes in the same week. You must be really superstitious," Blaine said.
"I'm not superstitious," Kurt told him. "This is just a wishing fountain and I'm participating in the fun. Here." Kurt reached into his pocket and got out a coin, handing it to his boyfriend. "Make a wish."
"Kurt, you're so silly." Blaine looked at Kurt and saw him do a pouting face. "But okay, I'll make a wish." Blaine closed his eyes and thought about what he was going to wish for. He played with the coin in his hand and finally let go of the coin, throwing it in the water.
"What'd you wish for?" Kurt asked, a smirk on his face.
"I'm not supposed to say," Blaine responded.
"Well you're not superstitious, so it doesn't matter," Kurt told him
Blaine chuckled and looked at Kurt. "I wished for tonight to never be over," he said, looking deep into Kurt's blue eyes. "I am having such a great time with the love of my life."
"I love you," Kurt smiled, getting lost in Blaine's words.
Blaine smirked back. "I love you too."
It was almost as if they had the same thought. They both leaned closer and shared a soft kiss, loving the touch of the lips of the other. After they parted away the crowd inside the ballroom cheered loudly and clapped.
"Let's go back inside and dance," Blaine said, standing up and pulling Kurt up.
"Okay."
When they went inside the music had stop and the DJ was speaking into the microphone.
Blaine looked at Kurt. "I'm gonna get a snack, I'll meet you at the table."
"Sure, I'll wait for you there." Kurt went over and sat at the table where Ethan and Scott were and paid attention to what the DJ was saying.
"Thank you William McKinley! I just wanted to let you all know that I've been having a great night! I've been DJ for many schools already and I have to admit… you guys are my favorite."
Everyone in the crowd cheered and 'wooed.'
The DJ continued speaking. "We're going to slow things down a bit tonight. Enjoy these next songs with your special someone."
Kurt realized that the DJ started playing a slow song. It was Taylor Swift's "Crazier." Kurt sighed and looked in front of him at Ethan and Scott, who were already standing up and heading to the dancefloor to slow dance with their girlfriends. Kurt sank down in his seat and looked at all the happy couples, dancing in each other's arms. Suddenly he heard a voice behind him.
"Excuse me."
Kurt turned around and saw Blaine.
"Would you like to dance?" Blaine asked, reaching out his hand for Kurt's.
"I do," Kurt smiled. He took Blaine's hand and the two began walking to the dancefloor.
This was it. This was Kurt's very first slow dance with a boyfriend. No wonder when the DJ started playing the slow song, he just sank into his chair and looked at all the couples. That's all Kurt has ever done. For the past seven years that he's been in school and he went to a dance, he's sat down in his seat and looked at all the couples slow dance.
But not tonight.
When he and Blaine arrived to the dancefloor, they both turned to look at each other and smiled. Blaine put one hand around Kurt's waist and with the other the two held hands as they swayed. Kurt put his free hand on Blaine's shoulder.
The two swayed left and right to the gentle melody of the song. This was perfect. Kurt was slow dancing to his first slow song with the person he loved the most. Even though they were in a room with a hundreds of other people, to them, they felt like they were the only ones in the room… in the whole world. Just the two of them, no one else to bother them and interfere with their love.
Blaine leaned closer to Kurt and rested his head on his shoulder. His head fit so perfectly there. Kurt looked up and saw Rachel and Finn dancing together a couple feet away. He met Rachel's eyes and both smiled at each other.
As the song was coming to an end, Blaine looked at Kurt. "I love you."
"I love you too," Kurt said back.
The two kissed as the song ended. All Kurt could think was that tonight could not have ended so perfectly well.
