Chapter 25: It's Not a Game Anymore – Part 2

Hayato and Hiro looked around the old man's dojo, it... well let's just say it didn't meet up with their expectations.

While the outside of the dojo was in reasonable condition, the inside was terrible. Especially the condition of the training room; weeds grew through the floorboards; paint was peeling off the walls revealing the rotten wooden panels behind; the roof sagged down in the centre of the room, due to a large amount of water damage from a leaking roof.

"This place is… horrible," Hayato whined.

"There really is a hell on earth," Hiro added.

"Take your shoes off boys!" The old man ordered, as he dropped his sandals to the floor, "Show some respect!"

"Do we really have to?" Hayato asked, glancing at the floor. "It's really dirty in here."

"You disrespectful little…" the old man grumped as he poked Hayato in the stomach with cane.

"Ooohh…" Haytao cringed as he clutched his stomach before falling backwards.

Hiro's eyes opened wide as he hurriedly took off his shoes, as did Hayato.

"So what exactly are we touring?" Hayato asked as he stood up.

"This," the old man replied, "Tour's over. You don't have go home, but you can't stay here!"

"Wait! What?" Hayato replied, "What about the rare cards?"

"Oh so that's, what kids these days are into." The old man mused, "I thought it was heroin or porn stars or something like that."

"What is wrong with this guy?" Hayato thought.

"Well fine I'll let you look at my cards," the old man replied as he fished through his robe pocket, eventually taking out two strips of black cloth. "But you have to wear these blindfolds."

"That defeats the entire purpose of looking you senile old man!" Hayato screamed, as fire burned in his eyes and devil horns appeared on his head.

Meanwhile outside, the two fathers were outside the dojo, waiting for the other group to return.

"What am I going to do?" Mr Wanson panicked, as he paced back and forth. "If we can't get the armour fixed, the owner's going to be pissed."

"Don't you have insurance or something?" Kazaki asked.

"The insurance didn't cover the armour," Mr Wanson replied, "And beside this is the only repairman the owner trust."

"Then they're both insane…" Kazaki muttered, before stopping and thinking, "What is the old man's name anyway?"

"Does it really matter?"

"What if it's like that old fairytale? Where the maiden had to guess the name of a troll or lose her newborn child."

"Rumplestiltskin?" Mr Wanson replied, "That old German fairytale. You're really comparing this situation to a fairytale?"

"You got any better ideas?"

"Well… no…" Mr Wanson replied, "His name was… um…ahh… Shuriko! But don't ask me for his other names; I'm as clueless as you for that matter."

Just then two figures emerged from the track, immediately after reaching the flat that the dojo stood on the boys stopped in their tracks.

One of the boy's, the one with crimson hair and golden eyes, collapsed to the ground, seemingly swearing under his breath between gasps for air.

The other boy, with icy blue hair and large white bangs covering the right half of his face, remained standing, as if trying to look distant – despite the fact he was clearly exhausted.

Back inside the dojo, Shuriko led the two boys into a room. Both Hiro and Hayato wore blindfolds over their eyes.

"Again, are the blindfolds really necessary?" Hayato complained.

"My dojo, my rules!" Shuriko snapped, and then continued without missing a beat, "Now. Take off your blindfolds. Behind this door are the rarest cards you've ever seen! If you don't have eBay that is."

"Finally," Hayato sighed, as he and Hiro took off their blindfolds. Only to find a dark, dreary, near empty room. In the middle of the room sat a closed silver briefcase.

"Today is going downhill fast," Hiro sighed, "even though we spent most of it going uphill."

"So I'm guessing the cards are in the suitcase?" Hayato asked.

"Ding. Ding. Ding!" Shuriko sarcastically replied. "We have a winner!"

"Hey… wait a second," Hiro wondered, "Where's…"

"That's enough waiting," Shuriko snapped, as he headed to the briefcase and kneeling down in front of it. "Now what was the combination again… hmmm… let's try 0-0-0."

Both Hiro and Hayato both groaned.

"Hey," Hiro whispered to Hayato, "Do you know what happened to that… erm… Youkai guy?"

"Wouldn't have a clue," Hayato whispered back, "Maybe he went to the bathroom."

"Strange, I never heard any footsteps."

"Okay," Shuriko loudly grumbled, "let's try 0-0-1."

Hayato and Hiro groaned once again.

Meanwhile, back outside the dojo. Kazaki and Mr Wanson confronted the two boys.

"Hello," Mr Wanson greeted the two boys, "I am Clark Wanson, and this is Kazaki Kudo."

"If you're looking for old man Shuriko, you'll find that's he out of his mind and very senile." Kazkai bitterly added.

"Have you seen a boy, with long white hair and…" the red haired boy asked.

"He went inside with our sons," Kazaki answered.

"Sons eh?" the red haired boy smirked, shifting glances between Kazkai and Clark. "Adopted I assume..." he sniggered.

"Sorry for my friends behaviour," the light blue haired boy apologised, but with a cold, unapologetic tone of voice. "He can be… immature at times."

"Oi, what's that supposed to mean?" the red haired boy shot back.

"My name is Yukio Yamada, the blue haired boy continued, "and this is Ryokai Misawa, they boy you met before was his cousin, Nowaki Misawa."

"What the hell is he doing, telling them our names? The dumb bastard will get us all arrested." Ryokai thought.

"We've come to collect some cards the old man promised us," Yukio explained, "Youkai, ran ahead in excitement and we could keep up."

"Strange," Kazaki mused, "that 'Youkai' kid didn't seem too excited. He was very quiet and soft spoken."

"He is a shy person," Yukio replied, "he was practically bouncing all around the place when he was with us."

"He's lying through his teeth," Ryokai thought, "and he's still calm."

"Well your white haired friend is inside with the old man and our sons, they went to look at some rare cards."

"Crap," Ryokai swore under his breath, "that careless idiot will ruin everything."

"What was that?" Kazaki asked.

"Nothing…" Ryokai replied, as he approached the dojo doors. "Yukio, you coming in."

"Yes," Yukio simply replied, as he followed Ryokai toward the door.

"Just a warning," Kazaki said to the two boys as they walked past. "Old man Shuriko, isn't in the right state of mind at the moment, do be careful."

"We will be," Yukio nodded, as Ryokai flung the door open and the two boys walked inside.

"0-0-9, nope. 0-1-0, nope. 0-1-1, nope. Okay boys," Shuriko said somewhat too enthusiastically, "pick a number between one and one thousand."

"You've got to be joking," Hayato mumbled.

"Twelve," Hiro suggested.

"Okay." Shuriko relied, fiddling with the suitcase. "0-1-2."

The suitcase popped open.

"You've got to be kidding me," muttered Hayato.

"Well kiddo's," Shuriko smirked, about to open the briefcase. "Get ready to see some…"

But Shuriko was cut off by a large gust of wind blowing him, Hiro and Hayato across the room, knocking them to the ground. Amusingly the half open briefcase fell straight to the ground, its contents staying perfectly in place.

"What the hell was that?" Hayato grunted, "A typhoon? Inside?" He looked up to see Youkai, bending down and closing the suitcase. "What's your name?" Hayato called out.

Youkai glanced at Hayato, "I'm sorry, but we have to do this," the white haired boy turned around and with suitcase in hand, ran out of the room.

"Wait?" Hayato yelled, as he climbed to his feet and followed Youkai full sprint. "What are you doing?"

"Hayato!" Hiro yelled, also standing up and following Hayato.

Hayato stood in the doorway, with Youkai not too far away.

"What are you doing?" Hayato asked, as Youkai turned around to face him.

Youkai looked at Hayato with his bright red eyes, which seemed to glow in the dim hallway. "I'm sorry, but we had no choice."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Hayato asked, "We? Who are you with?"

Hayato's question was answered by two more figures stepping into view. From what Hayato could see, they were both tall males, their eyes also seemed to glow in the dim hallway.

Hayato stood still in the doorway as Hiro stopped behind him. "C… crap that's terrifying…" Hayato stammered.

"It's like one of those scenes in a monster movie," Hiro added.

"As I said," Youkai apologised, "We are very sorry about this." Youkai then let one go of the suitcase, and extended it out in front of him.

The next thing Hiro and Hayato knew they were being flung back into Shuriko's 'duel monsters room' by a strong wind. Youkai turned and walked off with the other figures.

"Damn it," Hayato groaned, as he slowly pushed himself off the floor. "What is that guy?"

"You mean, what are those guys?" Hiro corrected, as he pulled himself up onto his knees.

Hayato glanced around the room. "Wait a second, where's the old man?"

Hiro began to panic, "I didn't land on him did I? That guy makes Tamaki look like Godzilla, I'd crush him flat!"

Back outside the dojo. Both Clark and Kazaki were still musing over the situation.

"I have a bad feeling," said Kazaki, "as soon as the boys come back out, we should cut our losses and leave."

"That's easy for you to say," Clark angrily replied, "your losses aren't twenty million yen!"

Just then the dojo door flung open, catching Clark and Kazaki's attention.

However, it was Hiro and Hayato, or Shuriko for that matter. It was Youkai, Ryokai and Yukio.

"Hello boys," Clark greeted, "did you get what you came for?"

"Yes we did," Yukio quickly replied, as the trio quickly made their way toward the trail, avoiding eye contact with the adults.

But just as the three boys neared the trail, a voice echoed throughout the area.

"Stop right there!"

The source of the voice was on the dojo roof, Shuriko, who somehow managed to climb up in there in a short amount of time. Shuriko held a large brown sack over his shoulder.

Everyone turned their attention to the old man on the roof. "Listen up you little thieves!" Shuriko yelled.

"Thieves!" Kazaki thought, his teeth gritted and his eyes opened wide.

"I have a proposition for you three!" Shuriko offered, as he opened the sack he was holding.

"We decline," Yukio scowled, as he turned away.

"Well, I decline your decline!" Shuriko replied, as he pulled an old, battle-city era duel disk from the sack. He then threw the duel disk to the ground, so it landed in front of the boys. The arm of the disk sticking firmly in the ground, so that the disk stood up vertically. This was followed by another duel disk landing in the same fashion.

"I'll duel the three of you, Shuriko proposed, "And if I win you hand over my good suitcase, but if you win you can keep it."

"Look," Yukio snapped, glaring Shuriko down, "We don't have time for your little game."

"And what makes you think we'll even duel you old man?" Ryokai added.

"Life's a game! So either play, or lose!" Shuriko shot back, taking a third duel disk from the sack. "And you three are about to lose!"

However it was Shuriko who lost, his balance that was. The old man tumbled over the edge, landing on the ground with a thud and bone-cracking sound.

Everyone stood silent as they stared at the motionless old man. The silence was only broken by Youkai.

"He's not dead is he?"

"I'm not dead!" Shuriko yelled, as he slowly tried to push himself off the ground. "Now back to what's important."

"You really are senile aren't you?" Kazaki yelled, "Don't you realise how injured you are?"

"Well why don't you do something? Mr Healthy-middle-aged-man." Shuriko shot back.

Kazaki had no reply; he bit his lip as he stared at Shuriko then turned his gaze toward the three boys.

"Hold it!" yelled Hayato, as he and Hiro ran out of the open dojo door. "Just what the hell is going on here?"

"Stay out of this!" Shuriko yelled, clutching his chest as he struggled to his feet. "These thieving bastards will pay!"

"Thieves!" Hayato parroted, as he ran toward Shuriko, "And they beat you up! How dare they!"

"No," Ryokai argued, "The idiot fell off the roof."

"Shut up!" Shuriko ordered, finally having stood up. He held the sack out and pulled two more duel disks out. "I'd rather die before I let those cards be stolen." He then attempted to strap one onto his arm.

"You're going to die if you duel." Yukio noted.

"No, I…" Shuriko replied, but was cut off by Hayato pulling the duel disk off his arm, then pushing him to ground.

"That's why I'm duelling for him!" Hayato added, as he attached the duel disk to his arm.

Kazaki narrowed his eyes.

"What are ya doing ya snot nosed brat!" Shuriko roared.

"Yeah, and I'm going to duel with him." Hiro added, as he walked up behind Hayato and picked up the sack Shuriko had dropped and pulled the last duel disk out of it.

"Hiro, what are you doing?" asked Clark.

"The right thing!" Hiro replied, as he strapped his duel disk to his arm, "I'm with Hayato all the way! Except for the pushing the old man thing."

"Yeah!" Hayato agreed, "we can't let these guys just steal those cards."

"Listen here!" Yukio scowled, "We need these cards. Trust me, if we didn't need these cards then we wouldn't be anywhere near them."

"Liars!" Hayato replied.

"Don't call us liars!" Ryokai snapped, stepping forward and pulling one of the duel disks out of the ground.

"Bahaha!" Shuriko laughed, as he sat up. "It seems as if I have an idea." He then looked at Hayato and Hiro, "You want me to fix that armour," he then turned toward Yukio, Ryokai and Youkai, "and you three want my cards. Then I offer a proposition, whoever wins this duel, can have whatever they want without consequence!"

"Agreed," Yukio nodded, as he pulled the other duel disk from the ground.

"So if our boys win this duel, Shuriko will fix the armour, for free. Am I dreaming?" Clark mused.

Kazaki grumbled incomprehensibly under his breath.

"So whoever is left standing gets the reward of their choice," Hiro stated, as he took his deck out of his pocket and placed it in the deck slot.

"Very well," Yukio frowned, "if it must be done for our sake, I will participate in this little game. Youkai, hold onto the cards." Yukio then took a deck of cards from his pocket and placed it into the duel disk.

"I will," Youkai nodded, as he tightened the grip on the handle.

"Do you two even think you stand a chance?" Ryokai smirked, as he too took a deck from his pocket and placed it into the duel disk.

"I know we stand more than a chance!" Hayato replied, pulling a toothbrush out a pocket. After glancing at for a second he threw the toothbrush aside, and reached into his pocket again, this time removing a deck of cards and placing it into the duel disk as well.

"Let's duel!" Hayato, Hiro, Ryokai and Yukio declared, activating their duel disks, then drawing five cards.

"Duel link… established," all four duel disks buzzed.

(Hayato: 4000/ Hiro: 4000/ Ryokai: 4000/ Yukio: 4000)

Meanwhile, back in the Kudo household. Sora walked in the front door, throwing her bag to the floor as she did. She looked up to see her mother sitting at the kitchen table, she held an envelope in her hand.

"Hello… dear…" Madoka Kudo asked, "How… how was school today?"

"It was… alright… I guess," Sora answered, not even trying to mention the Haruhi transvestite incident.

Sora looked at her mother, her hand was quivering. "Is everything okay mother?" she asked.

"Actually, no." Madoka answered her daughter, "I found this in the mail today. It was addressed to your father anonymously, I haven't opened it yet but I know exactly what they are. But I don't know how your father will react to his old boys."

"What are you talking about?" Sora asked.

"There's only one way to be sure," Madoka said to herself as she gripped the top of the envelope on one hand, and firmly held the bottom with her other hand. In one quick motion the woman tore the top off the envelope, the twisted her hand over so the contents of the envelope fell onto the table.

It was two cards; specifically they were two Duel Monster cards; Lightpulsar Dragon and Darkflare Dragon.

"It really is them!" Madoka cried, smiling as tears gathered in her eyes. "He-heh, it really has been a long time…"

There was no answer.

"Are you there?" Madoka desperately asked.

There was still no answer, the kitchen went silent.

"Please answer me!" Madoka screamed.

Sora was disturbed by her mother's behaviour, "I'm… I'm… going outside," she said, as she slowly opened the door. "Call me back in when you're ready." Sora stepped outside quickly slamming the door behind her. "My mother's lost her mind," she mumbled.

"Are you there?" Madoka asked, getting more and more desperate with each word. "Please don't leave me, not again. Please be alive."

"Oh relax," a deep voice replied, "we're fine."

"It has been a long time," another voice added, "where's the boss."

Madoka sighed with relief, "he'll be home soon," she smiled.

"I'll start things off!" Hiro declared, as he drew a card. "I'll start by summoning Heroic Challenger – Spartan! (1600/1000)"

A Spartan warrior, covered in golden and white armour, with a red cape draped over his shoulder's. The warrior wielded a long, narrow spear and a large oval shield.

"A boy named Hiro, using Heroic monster's," Shuriko smirked, "Sometimes life is funny."

"Next I'll set two cards face down and end my turn." Hiro added, as two face down cards appeared behind Spartan.

"Then that means it's my turn!" Ryokai announced, as he eagerly drew a card from his deck. "I discard Destiny Hero – Dasher from my hand to special summon Dark Grepher (1700/1600)."

A pillar of black energy erupted from the ground in front of Ryokai, and demonic warrior with pitch black skin stepped out of it. The warrior had blood red eyes, and wore spiky armour that resembled a demonic slasher smile.

"Next," Ryokai continued, as he slipped one card from his hand into the graveyard, "By discarding a dark monster, like Necro Gardna, from my hand, I'm allowed to send one from deck to the graveyard."

A card poked out of Ryokai's deck, the red haired boy then took the card and slid it into the graveyard only to take it back out seconds later.

"By banishing Destiny Hero – Malicious (800/800) from my graveyard, I can special summon another copy from my deck."

A black portal opened on the ground, and another demonic warrior rose out of it. The demon had bat-like wings and two tails, black fur covered the demon's arms and legs, and a black 'D' could be seen in the centre of its chest.

"Next I'll summon to the field Krebons (1200/400)."

A mechanical juggler appeared next to Dark Grepher, the juggler's face showed a wide grin as it began to juggle a bunch of small cubes.

"Are we supposed to be scared of that?" Hayato asked, "not one of those monster has more than two thousand attack."

"No," Ryokai replied, "You should be scared of this! I tune my level two Krebons with my level six Malicious."

Krebons transformed into green synchro rings which then surrounded Malicious, the demonic warrior then faded away in an orange light leaving six small orbs. A large pillar of light shot through the rings and quickly expanded to cover over half of Ryokai's field.

"I synchro summon Colossal Fighter (2800/1000)!" Ryokai announced.

A large white leg stepped out the pillar of light, followed by the rest of Colossal Fighter's massive white body, which resembled a large mecha-suit with blue orbs built into it shoulders, wrists and chest. The top half of the warrior's face was obscured by a green visor.

"Oh crap!" swore a stunned Hiro, "If I remember right, Colossal Fighter gains one hundred extra attack for every warrior in any graveyard."

"That's bad," Hayato agreed.

"Oh but it get worse!" Ryokai added, "Since I have three warriors; Malicious, Dasher and Necro Gardna, my Fighter gains three hundred extra attack!" (2800-3100) "But that's not the end of it, because if you destroy my Fighter by battle I can revive any warrior in any graveyard…"

"Including itself…" Hiro added.

"That's right!" Ryokai laughed, "I'll set one card face down and end my turn."

A single facedown card appeared behind Ryokai's monsters.

"Well this went downhill fast," commented Kazaki.

"Don't make such negative comments," scolded Clark, "I have at least twenty million yen riding on this."

"My turn!" Hayato announced, as he drew. "I'll start by activating the field spell Dragon Ravine." Hayato inserted the card into the field card slot at the end of the duel disk.

Instantly the forest clearing that the dojo sat in instantly transformed in a red-cliff canyon, with the four duellists, and Youkai, standing on ledges that stuck out from the canyon wall. Shuriko, Clark, Kazaki and the monsters stood atop rock pillars just off to the side of the field.

"Now I can activate the effect of field spell," Hayato continued, as he sent one card in his hand to the graveyard, "By discarding one card, like Dragunity Javelin…"

"Trap activate," Ryokai cut in, "Eradicator Epidemic Virus, by tributing one dark attribute monster with more than two thousand five hundred attack. I can destroy any spell or trap cards you control or draw for your next three turns. And I'm choosing spells."

Colossal Fighter was absorbed by Ryokai's trap, which then released black skulls with small tentacles that attached themselves to the canyon walls.

"So what?" Hayato replied, "You just got rid of your most powerful monster, and I still get to use my field spell's effect."

"Actually," Yukio corrected, "You won't, you may have paid the cost for your card, but if it isn't face up on the field when the effect resolves, you can't resolve the effect and you don't get the cost you paid refunded."

"And since I chained my trap to the activation of the your spell, when you paid the cost, my trap resolves before your spell card, meaning that it destroyed as well as any other spells you have before the effect resolves. So you just wasted two cards for nothing."

"And Dragunity monsters are almost completely reliant on the Dragon Ravine field spell," Youkai added.

"Oh crap!" Hayato swore, steam pouring out his ears. "I'm screwed!"

"No your not!" Hiro smirked, as one of his face down cards flipped up, "I activate Seven Tools of the Bandit. By paying one thousand life points, I can negate any trap I feel like negating."

(Hiro: 4000 – 3000)

Ryokai glared at Hiro as a pocket flung out of Hiro's trap and spinning through the air sliced Ryokai's trap in half, causing all the floating viruses to shatter.

"Bahaha!" Shuriko laughed, clutching his ribs. "Irony, got to love it."

"Yeah!" Hayato agreed, "Since your trap's effect was negated, my spells are safe, your Colossal Fighter is gone, and I can add my Dragunity Legionnaire (1200/800) from my deck to my hand. And I'm going to summon it."

A card popped out of Hayato's deck which he immediately yanked out and slapped it on the duel disk.

The shadow of a short, but muscled man dressed in a light blue tunic, with large golden gauntlets and green wings and beak shaped helmet, appeared over the field. Everybody looked up to see the birdman leap down from the top of the canyon, landing in front of Hayato.

"And since Legionnaire was summoned I can equip a level three or lower Dragunity dragon from my graveyard, like my Javelin."

A narrow dragon covered in heavy yellow armour flew over the canyon wall, the dragon dove down, landing next to Legionnaire. The birdman the climbed onto the dragon's back.

"Now I activate the effect of my Legionnaire," Hayato announced, as Javelin took to the air. "By sending Javelin to the graveyard, I can destroy a monster on the field, like Dark Grepher!"

Javelin charged through the air toward Dark Grepher, just before the dragon and dark warrior collided, Legionnaire jumped off the dragons back. Both Javelin and Dark Grepher exploded into thousands of pixels on contact, as Hayato's bird warrior landed safely back on his side of the field.

"Now he's defenceless," Hayato smirked.

"Not a single card on his field," Hiro added.

"Really," Ryokai smirked, "I'm not afraid of a bunch of amateurs like you."

"We're not amateurs!" Hayato shot back, as he slipped a face down card into his duel disk. "I'll set one card face down and end my turn."

A face down card appeared behind Legionnaire.

"My turn," Yukio announced, as he drew his card.

"I shall begin by special summoning Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit (2100/1400) as I control no monsters."

A white, ghostly dragon, with golden armour over its chest, joints and tail, appeared in front of Yukio.

"Next I activate the spell card Hieratic Seal of Convocation, which allows me to add a Hieratic monster from deck to my hand."

A card slid out of Yukio's deck, the light blue haired boy the immediately played it.

"By tributing Tefnuit, I can special summon Hieratic Dragon of Su (2200/1000) from my hand."

Tefnuit disappeared in a trail of golden and white sparkles, as a larger, blue ghostly dragon in golden armour took its place.

Then another dragon, which appeared to be made out of minerals that had been bound together. The dragon growled at Hayato and Hiro as it curled into a defensive stance.

"Where did that come from?" Hayato asked.

"As Tefnuit was tributed, its effect special summons a normal dragon from my deck, such as Labradorite Dragon (0/2400)," explained Yukio, "However in exchange both the attack and defense power of the summoned monster are reduced to zero." (0-0/2400-0)

"I supposed to be scared of a monster with zero attack and defense?" teased Hayato.

"Uh… Hayato," Hiro whispered, "Both his monsters are level six, and Labradorite Dragon is a tuner."

"Uh… oh…" Hayato moaned in realization.

"I overlay my two level six monsters," Yukio announced, as both Su and Labradorite Dragon turned into swirling balls of yellow and purple energy. "To Xyz summon Hieratic Dragon King of Atum (2400/2100)!"

Both swirling balls of energy shot into a spiral portal that appeared on the canyon wall, and out of the portal clawed a large black, ghostly dragon covered in golden armour similar to Tefnuit and Su. The dragon roared, as two small orbs floated around it.

"I detach an overlay unit from my Atum," Yukio declared, as one of the orbs was absorbed into Atum's ches plate. "To special summon one dragon monster from my deck, however once again its attack and defense are reduce to zero."

Another copy of Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit (2100-0/1400-0) appeared next to Atum, the new dragon crossed its arms and kneeled down.

"I think we're in trouble now…" Hayato squeaked.

"I set a monster and a card face down and end my turn," Yukio declared as a face down monster and card appeared with his monsters.

"Bahaha. And so the real battle begins…" Shuriko quietly laughed.

Back in the Spirit World, Regulus, Luna and Life Stream Dragon were walking, much to Life Stream's annoyance, down a dirt road that paved its way through the forest thicket. The sun was setting over the horizon.

"This is taking longer than I thought," Life Stream mumbled, "maybe if someone would let me fly you two there."

"No!" Regulus stubbornly replied, "I don't do flying."

"Stubborn cat."

"Overgrown lizard."

"Stop it! Stop it right now!" demanded Luna, as she stepped between the bickering creatures. "We have more important things to worry about."

"Like what?" Life Stream asked.

"Like where we are." Luna answered.

"I know exactly where we are," Life Stream replied. "We're almost to Schwank. It's just… just… over these hills…"

"Actually," Regulus added, "I don't recognise any of this landscape. Schwank is a mountainous area, and I can't see any over the trees."

"Hold on a second, shorty," Life Stream smirked, as he fully stood up stretched out to his full height, just propping his head over the trees. There were a few mountains far off on the horizon, but between them and the group stood thousands, if not more, of trees.

After a short silence, Life Stream hunched back down and spoke, "I have no idea where we are."

"So where lost," Luna sighed, "Brilliant…"

"This is all your fault dragon," Regulus growled.

"Well, if someone had let me fly them," Life Stream hissed.

"My personal fears are not to blame!" Regulus roared.

"Oh really!" Life Stream snapped, as e carefully pushed Luna to the side, then grabbed Regulus with both his hand.

"What are you doing?" Regulus demanded.

"Making you face your fears," Life Stream smirked, as the dragon held Regulus up to its chest and spread its wings.

"Oh you wouldn't…" Regulus gulped, struggling to free himself from the dragons grip.

But it was too late; Life Stream Dragon took off from the ground, flying high above the tree tops. Hovering in one spot.

"What the hell are you guys doing?" Luna yelled. Staring up at the airborne dragon and lion.

"Put me down, reptile!" Regulus demanded, struggling against Life Streams tight grip. "Or… or… I'll bite you." Regulus opened his mouth, ready to clamp down on Life Stream's arm.

"You're not thinking this through," Life Stream Dragon calmly laughed, "you bite me, I drop you, you fall, you die, simple."

"Words cannot express my hatred, reptile."

"Funny. You don't seem scared."

"Well… we're not… moving. That's it, we're stationary, there's nothing to be afraid of if we're still."

"Is that so…" Life Stream smirked.

"Do not…" Regulus pleaded, but to no avail. As Life Stream Dragon began to move forwards, then into a rapid dive toward the ground.

"You stupid lizard!" Regulus loudly roared, echoing throughout the area.

Just as the dragon neared the ground, he pulled up so that the two flew just above the ground, before flying back up to their original pre-dive height.

"I… hate… you…" Regulus gasped; pale as a white lion could possibly be.

"That's better," Life Stream laughed.

"Guys!" Luna yelled from the ground, "We've got more important things to worry about!"

"She's right," Life Stream Dragon smirked, "Can you see Schwank from here lion, or do we have to go higher?"

"H… higher?" Regulus stammered.

"That's right," Life Stream smirked, "We can go higher than anything you can imagine." The dragon prepared to fly higher, bracing its flapping wings.

"Wait! Wait!" Regulus cried, pointing with his paw, "What's that? Off in the distance!"

Life Stream Dragon squinted as he looked in the direction Regulus had pointed, surely enough among the thousands of trees stood about a half a dozen large, white tents.

"What do you think it is?" asked Life Stream.

"It's definitely some sort of encampment," Regulus answered.

"Hold on, let's go in for a closer look." Life Stream Dragon suggested as he readied himself to fly toward

"No. No. No!" Regulus growled, "I refuse to fly. And we can't leave Miss Luna alone."

"Fine we shall take her with us."

"Straight into danger! What if they are hostile?"

"Fine." Life Stream hissed, as it began to drop down, once again scaring Regulus. Using his wings to slow the fall and land safely on the ground.

"I… hate… you… with… every… hair… on… my body…" Regulus panted, as he hopped out of the dragon's arms.

"Yeah, and I hate you with every bolt that hold my armour together," Life Stream Dragon replied, as he prepared to take off once more.

However, the second Life Stream Dragon left the ground; a large orange dragon flew out of the trees, slashing Life Stream across his narrow stomach with its large, sharp blood covered sword.

Life Stream Dragon collapsed onto the ground clutching his wound, dark red blood gushing between his claws.

The attacker looked to its next two targets, as Regulus jumped in front of Luna.

"Stay behind me," Regulus ordered, Luna nodded, half in agreement, half in terror.

The attacking dragon stood tall on its black, birdlike legs. A large set of feathered orange wings were folded behind the dragons' back and a second smaller pair of wings – bat like as opposed to feather, further down. A long orange tail ran behind the dragon, with a bird-like crest attached to the end.

The dragon smirked, showing a full set of sharp teeth. "Looks like another three kills today," it laughed.
