Mulan/Lily (Main Pairing)
Dorothy/Ruby
Maleficent/Belle
Past Emma/Lily
Storybrooke was hammered by a furious downpour of rain. Lily pulled her jacket tighter around her as she crossed the street and quickly went into the diner. It was mostly empty, but she spotted her friends sitting in a booth with Ruby leaning on the table. It brought a smile to her lips. Friends. It was something she'd never had growing up and she still found it strange. She walked over and pulled up a chair. "Hey guys."
"Hey Lily." Ruby smiled. Her girlfriend, Dorothy was sitting in the booth next to Merida and on the other side was Mulan. It was strange seeing the fierce woman without her full battle armor. She was wearing a simple white shirt and jeans and Lily had to admit she looked good in it.
"We still on for tonight?"
"Tink pulled out at the last second. We need another player." Ruby said.
"What about Emma?" Mulan suggested.
"Yeah, she doesn't usually have plans." Dorothy added.
Lily fought the urge to roll her eyes. "The Savior. Really?" She and Emma had had numerous talks in the past year trying to form some sort of relationship, but it was just awkward now and Lily still hated her parents with a passion. Once, they had been young lovers and since that was never happening again, they'd tried for friendship, but it was a work in progress. Work that she hated, and progress that didn't seem to be going anywhere.
"Come on, Lily." Ruby said with a reassuring smile. "If we don't find another player, your mom is gonna have to be on the other team which we all know is an unfair advantage."
Lily sighed. "Fine."
"Great, I'll go call her." The werewolf sauntered off to do so.
"You and Emma still mad at each other?" Dorothy asked.
Lily made a so so motion with her hand. "Anyways, what time are we meeting? The usual?"
"Yeah, at 6. Mal said it's gonna be a three day adventure this time." Merida bounced excitedly.
Lily smiled. It had been a couple months ago when her mother had suggested for them to play a favorite game of hers. Since she was the mistress of dreams, Maleficent could construct a specially made dream down to the last detail and allow them to have any sort of adventure they wanted. Lily ended up inviting her friends and they all made it a regular thing to play once a month. Last time had been trying to reach an island and rescue the princess from inside a tower. The hard thing was making the raft and trying not to get eaten by the sharks. Then, once on the island they had to fight their way past a shit ton of guards and a minotaur, only to find out that the princess they were supposed to be rescuing was actually a master assassin waiting to kill them. It was like a real live video game and a thousand times cooler. "I'll meet you guys at the house later then, I have to go get ready."
"See you, Lily." Mulan smiled.
"See you." She smiled back and made her way home, finding her mother stretched out on the couch napping while Belle sat on the floor in front of the coffee table, making plans for their game time. "She left you to do all the work?" Lily asked, shrugging off her wet coat and shoes at the door.
Belle glanced back at Mal. "I think the poor thing was tired out last night." She smirked. "That's what she gets for underestimating the little librarian." Mal smacked her in the back of the head as she turned over. Belle laughed. "Anyways, the game's already made for tonight. I was just adding in some enemies."
"Oh joy." Lily smirked as she dove onto the couch, effectively shocking her mother awake. "Hey Mom."
"I'm going to kill you, Lilith. Don't you know not to wake a sleeping dragon?" Mal asked.
Lily only grinned and flipped over the back of the couch. "What are you doing asleep anyway? Was little Belle correct?"
Mal snorted, blasting smoke out of her nose. "Just go get ready. I think you'll like this adventure."
"I'm already rethinking this." Lily went into the bathroom for a shower and got dressed in her most badass outfit: Black boots, black jeans, a white tanktop and a fitted black leather jacket. She didn't bother with makeup. She went into the bedroom and went under the bed to pull out a large, long box and hefted it onto the bed. Inside was a bolt action rifle, a katana, two machete-like broadswords, a sawn off shotgun and two pistols.
"Yo, Lil!" Ruby called from the living room. "We're here."
"Be out in a second!" Lily called as she equipped her weapons. She grabbed the rifle and walked back into the living room. Ruby and Dorothy were already there, dressed and ready for war. Emma was standing by the door, looking a bit uncomfortable. At least Ruby had told her about the weapons.
"What kind of game is this again?" The blonde asked.
"Mom plans an adventure. We go into the dream and do what we have to to win. Simple." Lily said.
"Which is gonna be me." Merida smirked, bursting into the house, followed silently by Mulan in full battle armor and a dragon headed cannon on her shoulder.
"We're ready Mom."
Maleficent came into the room, looking like a complete badass in her leather and dominatrix heels. Belle came after her in an Enchanted Forest-like outfit made for traveling.
"Oh come on!" Dorothy threw up her hands. "Don't tell me you guys are playing too."
"We are." Belle said. "And before you get upset, please know Mal and I are not completely at an advantage. We both added some stuff to the adventure without telling each other, although we're mostly there to keep score. And there will be no shifting from anyone. Magic is allowed but no teleporting. This adventure will take place for 3 days and 2 nights. Kills earn you points as well. But not each other and no one from your own team. So, everyone ready?"
"What about teams?" Ruby asked.
"I have taken the liberty of choosing them at random." Mal said. "Ruby, Do and Merida will be team 1. Lily, Mulan and Emma will be team 2." Lily glared at her mother. "Me and Belle, team 3. Let's get into place." Everyone filed down down into the basement but Lily stopped her mother.
"What the hell, Mom?"
"What?"
"Why is Emma on my team? We could've done teams of two."
"Because I'm your mother and your suffering is very important to me." Maleficent smirked. "You're going to have to get over your feud with Emma and besides, you invited her."
"Mom." Lily whined.
Mal kissed her forehead. "Come on."
Lily rolled her eyes as she followed her mother into the basement. There were chambers set up around the room with everyone climbing into one. Mal went over to her extra large one that she shared with Belle. Lily noticed Mulan struggling to fit her cannon in with hers so she helped her.
"Thanks." Mulan said, climbing in next to it.
Lily nodded as she walked over to the last one and climbed in. She closed her eyes, waiting for the spell to take over her. A moment later, she opened them again and found herself laying in the middle of a desert. The others were waking up and collecting their weapons. Next to them were 3 extra long uncovered jeeps.
"Step 1: Get across the desert. Step 2: Get through the forest. Step 3: get into the castle and get the crown." Mal said, climbing into one of the jeeps. Belle tossed each team a map and they quickly split up, getting into their own cars. Lily got behind the wheel and Mulan climbed in the passenger seat, laying her cannon in the last seat while Emma got into the seat behind them.
The teams roared off with Mal in the lead. Ruby zipped from side to side, annoying Lily.
"So we're just gonna drive across this desert?" Emma asked. "That's it?"
"Of course not. Those evil little minds have some sort of plan." Mulan said. "One time we had to cross an ocean and they put Moby Dick and a megalodon in the water and they nearly killed us."
"If we die, we're still alive in the real world, right?"
"Yeah." Lily rolled her eyes, magically removing her coat. "It's only a dream, Emma."
"How long you guys been doing this?"
"A few months." Lily shrugged. She glanced over at Mulan, who was examining the car with interest, having never been in one before. Her look of confusion was too cute, and she looked so sexy with her hair blowing back behind her like that. Mulan turned her head and she got a glimpse of her neck. Her eyes glowed involuntarily and her teeth sharpened, nearly overwhelming her with the desire to bite the warrior's neck, to mark her.
"So we're just driving across a desert." Emma commented.
"Obviously."
"That's it?"
"Of course not." She gestured to her mother's car. "They have something planned." As if on cue, the ground started shaking and suddenly a giant sandworm burst out of the sand. "Holy shit!" Lily swerved to avoid crashing. Ruby screamed from her car and nearly crashed as well. Mal expertly maneuvered through the danger.
"This is too easy." Mulan climbed into the back and Emma got into the front. "Get in front of it." Lily nodded and steered the vehicle in front of the raging beast. It opened its mouth as though to swallow them whole, but Mulan was prepared. She fired the dragon headed cannon right into its mouth, blasting a hole all the way through it and killing it, earning them the first points of the game.
"Go Mulan!" Merida called.
Mulan looked back with a smile and Lily smiled in return. The desert ended shortly after at the edge of a great forest. The three teams disembarked and headed in. The first day was coming to an end and using the supplies that were in the jeeps, they set up camp. While Mulan went to collect firewood, Lily and Emma set up the tents.
"This game is interesting." Emma commented.
Lily sighed. "You don't have to fill the silence, Emma. The quiet is perfectly comfortable."
"Well it's not like you were going to talk to me without me starting it off. I'm not exactly sure what I have to do to get you to just talk to me for once. We used to be good friends."
"Key word: used." Lily replied, taking a seat after finishing her tent.
"Yeah well, I'm trying here, damn it." Emma sat next to her. "Just give me a chance."
Lily sighed. She really didn't want to do this right now. The game was supposed to be fun, not having heart to hearts. She stood up. "I'm gonna see what's taking Mulan." She followed the warrior's scent and found her standing next to a lake, looking out over the water. A pile of dry kindling lay at her side. "You okay?"
Mulan quickly turned around. "Yes, I'm fine. I was just…" She flustered for some kind of lie, but none came apparently. "I was just thinking about my happy ending."
"What about it?"
"If and when I'll ever get it. Everyone has one but me."
Lily scoffed. "I'm sure you will. Maybe that someone is right in front of you."
Mulan held out her hand to shake. "I'm sorry, have we met? I'm Mulan, the eternal third wheel." She threw down her hand with a sigh. "First with Aurora and Philip, then Ruby and Dorothy and now you and Emma."
"Wait, you think Emma and I are together? Definitely not." She amended quickly. "Never."
"Really?" came the shocked question.
"Yes. I thought you knew."
"No. I assumed you were just fighting."
Lily smirked. "You assumed. Well, there's the problem right there."
Mulan smiled. "I suppose you're right."
"Mulan, if there's anyone I'm attracted to, it's you." Lily said, deciding to just put everything out there. "From the moment I saw you. You looked so beautiful...and badass." The warrior chuckled. "Maybe we could have a try?" Lily tilted her head.
"Maybe. It isn't weird that you're my friend? If things don't work out, it'd mess up our friendship."
"Don't think of it that way then. Stay positive."
Mulan nodded. "We'll see."
Lily grinned, feeling her heart flutter. "Great." Nothing could erase her smile as they headed back to the camp site. Emma had gotten the tents down and was checking her pistol when the pair returned with firewood.
"If we're already in a dream, do we go to sleep?" Emma asked.
"No, we don't have to, but you can." Lily shrugged. "Morning comes in the blink of an eye anyway. The camps are usually to rest and eventually we'll get attacked."
"By what?"
"It's different every time." Lily shrugged, igniting the campfire.
Mulan pulled out their map. "Step 1: Cross the desert."
"Check." Lily said.
"Step 2: Get through the forest. Step 3: Get into the castle and get the crown."
"Our next obstacle is the forest then." Emma voiced. "It must be big they gave us 3 days."
"The last day is usually reserved for the final assault. Either way, we have to win." Lily stood up. "You guys get ready. We'll leave just before dawn to try and get ahead. Knowing Mom she wouldn't've stopped at all and she'll be tired tomorrow."
Mulan and Emma nodded and grabbed their weapons. Lily pulled out her rifle, just in case. It was a good decision because barely a minute later, she heard gunshots in the distance. The sky began to shift before their very eyes, the moon falling in one direction and the sun rising in the other.
"Let's go." Mulan said. Just as she said those words, the bushes around them parted and a flurry of dark shapes came shooting through the opening. "Dark fairies!" Emma and Lily opened fire and Mulan drew her sword, slashing down any that managed to get behind them. "There's too many."
"Shit." She threw her gun to the ground and took a deep breath. Fire sprang to life along her arms and shoulders and she let loose a torrent of fire at the fairies, setting dozens alight. The rest started to retreat and she extinguished the flames on her body. "We need to get moving."
"Agreed." Mulan said. They scrambled to get ready and just as she had finished reloading her gun, Lily noticed the leaves raining down from above. She looked up and froze.
"Guys, stop moving. Look up, slowly." Her teammates obeyed, both gasping at the sight of the perhaps hundreds of monkeys sitting in the trees overhead, all of them staring down at them. "Just back away slowly." One of the monkeys screeched and all of them started diving down, screeching at the top of their lungs. Lily's heart nearly stopped at the sight of the flood of monkeys barrelling towards her. She pulled out a grenade and threw it before turning on her heels and following after Emma and Mulan. The explosion scared them, but not for long. She could hear them cutting through the undergrowth behind them and put on an extra burst of speed. She saw Emma disappear up ahead and the ground suddenly gave way and she found herself flying over a waterfall.
/
"Well, I just lost half my fucking arsenal." Lily sighed, throwing any guns to the side that were waterlogged. Those in her bag were safe at least, but the rest were useless now.
"Your mom has too much imagination for this." Mulan said with a smirk. She'd had to have her armor magically dried after their swim downriver. Emma tossed her gun over her shoulder and threw her magazines to the side in favor of her sword.
"Now what?" The blonde asked.
"We just need to get our bearings." Lily said. "Any suggestions, Savior?" She looked around at the dense forest around them.
"Me? No." Emma replied.
"I was actually talking to the Savior of China."
Mulan rolled her eyes as she started to remove her armor. "Turn around." Lily frowned, considering that she knew that Mulan wore a suit of leather under her armor, but she obeyed nonetheless. Emma automatically did the same.
"What are you doing?"
"I can't climb a tree in a suit of armor, now can I?"
"You could. It might be funny." Lily shrugged. She received a stick thrown at her back for the remark.
"You guys want some privacy?" Emma crossed her arms, coming to her side.
"I would prefer it."
"You didn't want me to play this game with you guys, did you?"
"Of course not. Why would I want to stare at my ex all night? Why would I want to have any conversation with you?"
"Because we should try to move past this. We live in the same, tiny town. We're going to see each other and we can't keep ignoring each other."
"Says you." Lily scoffed. "I don't need to talk to you about anything and most likely never will have to talk to you."
"Lily!" Ruby called, walking into the clearing, with Dorothy and Merida trudging behind her. "Your mom's a bitch!" She yelled. Lily laughed, turning when she heard a soft thud. Mulan came to her side, looking confused at Ruby's outburst. As the werewolf got closer they could see she was covered in scratch marks. "We've been here a day and I've been attacked by, no shit, a dozen fucking cats!"
"Cats?" Emma frowned.
"Yeah! Cats. Like 3 panthers, a jaguar, a cougar, maybe some fucking lions, I don't know, but fuck your mom, Lily!" Ruby snapped.
Lily only laughed. "You guys seen them?"
"No and I don't want to."
"We're not far from the edge of the forest actually." Mulan supplied.
"Really, that was way too quick. They must've beefed up the final assault. We should get going." Lily said to her team.
"Why don't we go together?" Emma suggested. "We all go and defeat the big bad at the end and then fight for the crown ourselves."
"I like that plan." Dorothy said.
Mulan suddenly grabbed Lily's shoulder and she pointed up at the trees. "Shit, the monkeys are back. Run!"
"Monkeys?" Ruby growled. "Are you fucking serious?" She turned around and cursed again, running after the others. The werewolf shifted forms and Merida and Dorothy climbed onto her back. She left Lily and her team in the dust. Lily attempted to fire some fireballs to get the monkeys off their back, but as soon as she managed to do so, they were attacked by Dark Fairies and had no choice but to turn and fight. She used fire spells to funnel the fairies down to Mulan and Emma, who sliced through them with their swords. Watching Mulan fight was like a work of art, the way she flowed through every attack and wielded her powerful blade with such ease. Lily felt her teeth almost ache to bite her, to mark her, to claim her. It was unbearable and she couldn't control herself. Just as they cleared out the monkeys and fairies, she tackled Mulan to the ground, all four of her canines growing into large fangs. She was fully prepared to sink her them into the warrior's neck, but Mulan moved at the last second and Lily's teeth connected with the cold metal of a small dagger. Mulan pressed a button and it sent a shock through the steel making Lily reel back in pain.
"What was that?" Emma asked.
Lily put a hand over her mouth. "Sorry. I swear that was unintentional."
Mulan smirked, holding up the dagger. "You think we don't have dragons in China?"
"I'm glad you do." She said, paling at the thought of what might've happened if Mulan wasn't prepared. She was already mortified that she wasn't able to control herself.
"This your first time?" Mulan asked. Lily nodded. "Honestly, it's a bit flattering. But we should get a move on before something else decides to try and kill us."
Lily nodded again. Mulan took the lead and Emma followed, while she brought up the rear. They had to cover a lot of ground before they reached the edge of the forest. When they did, they couldn't believe it. The way out of the forest was a rickety bridge over a giant chasm. On the other side, Lily could see the castle they needed to attack. They were set to cross when the sun started moving across the sky, the clouds flowing around it like water. The sky turned dark and the stars sparkled into view. The moon took its place, throwing them into night.
"Damn it. I can't see 2 feet in front of me." Emma commented.
Mulan moved off, collecting a couple sticks, which Lily set alight. "I'll go last, my armor might be a little heavy."
Lily tapped her jacket, setting it on fire as well, giving them a little more light but kept it from burning her. Emma went first and Lily walked behind her. Mulan came last, walking gingerly. Lily could almost hear her holding her breath. She reached behind her, taking the torch from her and taking her hand. It was true that they couldn't technically die, but the situation still felt real and elicited very real emotions. The dragon just knew one of the wooden boards would break and one of them would fall and be eliminated, but thankfully, they didn't. All three made it safely and let out sighs of relief as soon as they were on solid ground. This marked the end of the forest and they found a camp waiting for them. Mal and Belle were already there, drinking coffee and eating when they walked up. Ruby was laid out nearby and Merida and Dorothy were eating as well.
"Welcome to the calm before the storm!" Maleficent called to her daughter with a grin. "Coffee? Crepes? Bacon?"
Lily glared at her as they came to take a seat, finally relaxing after their stressful day. Mulan removed her armor, taking a seat next to her and Lily passed her a plate of food.
"So, how was it?" Mal asked.
"Hell. I thought you two said you would play fair."
"We did." Belle smirked. "Your mother was attacked-"
"By giants and ogres!" Mal snapped, making the librarian laugh out loud. "Truly, the most disgusting beasts you could think of. I'll be cleaning my scales for weeks."
"They weren't real-"
"So?!" Belle burst into laughter when Mal glared at her. Lily ignored that and grabbed her mother's hand, pulling her away from the others. "What is it, Lily?"
"I tried to bite Mulan!" Lily snapped. "My teeth sharpened and everything!"
"Because you have a crush on her."
"Mom, I couldn't control myself. I'm lucky she knew what to do or else I don't know what would've happened."
Mal's eyebrows rose. "You guys had sex?"
"What?! No!" Lily felt her cheeks burn at the mere thought.
"That's usually how one would solve the problem of being in heat."
"What?"
Mal slowly nodded. "I didn't think you would enter heat in winter or else I would've explained it. You're in heat. You want to mate. It's when you're most fertile. When this happens, you just need to have sex. Your desire for Mulan causes you to fixate on her, but you won't need to have sex with her if you just ask her out. You and her just need to talk or spend time together and it will sate you."
"I can't do that."
"Yes, you can. You can do anything, Lilith. Right now, we have a castle to storm. You can worry about your relationship in a little bit. Everything will be fine. How do you know Mulan doesn't feel the same way about you?"
Lily sighed, biting her lip. Mal gave her a pat on the shoulder and returned to her own mate. She remained where she was until she felt another hand on her shoulder and turned to face Mulan.
"You okay?"
"No. She just explained to me about the being in heat thing. I can't do this." Every moment she was in the warrior's presence made her desperately want to be close to her. It was unbearable.
"Do you want to quit now?" Mulan asked. "We can. Talk this out."
Lily shrugged. "I don't know how much good talking will do right now."
"Alright then, win."
"What?"
"Win." Mulan leaned and kissed her cheek, sending warmth throughout her body. "Win."

20 minutes later…
Lily walked out the castle carrying the head of the minotaur and its battleaxe. The creature ended up being the final boss and while her team and the rest of the players of their little game took the long way around, she scaled up the castle walls and killed the beast early. She dropped her prizes in front of Mulan and waited to see what the warrior would do. Mulan looked at Mal, who smirked and ended the dream sequence, forcing them to wake up in the pods in the basement once again. Mulan jumped out of hers and Lily followed on her heels. They were already removing their clothes when they burst into the room. Lily slammed the door and locked it. She turned around just as Mulan removed the last of her armor. "Oh, fuck."
Mulan grinned and motioned to the rest of her clothes. "Chop chop, Dragon."
Lily hurried out of the restricting garments and tackled her onto the bed. "Are you sure about this? We're not rushing anything, are we?"
"Who cares if we are? We have all the time in the world to figure out everything else. Right now, I think you need this pretty bad. Me too, for that matter."
Lily smirked and kissed her, a purr bubbling out of her throat. Mulan was probably the baddest warrior on the planet, but she was so soft to the touch, so sweet to the taste. Lily took her time, showing Mulan how much she appreciated tonight. A few hours later had the warrior relaxing in her arms, both of them spent and content.
"Thank you."
"It's no problem. Although, I wish you would've told me about your little crush sooner." Mulan chuckled softly.
"I was nervous." Lily smirked. "You're one of the greatest warriors ever, the fucking Savior of China and I'm just…"
"The daughter of a dragon queen?"
"I guess."
Mulan turned her head to look up at her. "I know your mom is probably working on that confidence thing with you, but let's try something right now." She sat up and moved to straddle Lily's stomach. "Tonight was one of the most incredible nights of my life. I got to blow up things, kill stuff and to top it off I got to have sex with you, daughter of a dragon, and you still seem to think there's something wrong with you."
Lily smirked. "Well, when you put it like that, I guess I can't argue."
"Then don't."
Lily rested her hands on Mulan's thighs. "May I take you on a date?"
"Sure, but-"
A knock on the door had Mulan diving under the sheets and both of them attempting to cover up before Lily remembered she locked the door last night.
"Um, I hope you two are up. Mal said breakfast is ready." Belle called through the door.
Lily slid out of bed and helped Mulan up. They took a quick shower and she let Mulan borrow some of her clothes so she wouldn't have to wear her armor again. They went into the kitchen, finding Maleficent laying out the food on the table. She gave Lily a proud smile as she came to hug Mulan before turning to her daughter. "Excellent choice, Lilith. Always pick a mate who can fight."
"Belle can fight?" Lily replied.
"I'm guessing you haven't seen her with a crossbow."
"I'll remember that." Belle said, already fixing herself a plate.
Mulan threw her a smirk as she sat down. Lily sat as well and the family got ready to enjoy breakfast. However, Lily paused when Mulan brushed her hair behind her ear and she spotted the mark on the side of her neck. She wanted to purr her head off just looking at it, just looking at this gorgeous woman.
"Stop staring." Mulan whispered.
"Sorry. Can't help it."
"Aw," Mal purred. "So cute. Not as cute as me and Belle, but cute nonetheless." Belle elbowed her in the side, but she hardly even flinched. "They slept together before they went on a date. We should've done that, Belle." Belle covered her mouth when she started laughing and Mulan snorted at her mother's comments.
"Okay, Mom, you have sufficiently embarrassed me enough." Lily said.
"Okay, good, just making sure." Maleficent returned to her food like nothing happened and Lily facepalmed herself while Mulan and Belle laughed again. Mulan leaned over to kiss her cheek and smiled, lighting up her world once again.
