Chapter 25
Dinner couldn't get over quick enough! Apparently when my brothers asked my dad why I wasn't home all weekend, he somehow let it slip that Ashley had taken me on a romantic getaway. Well it doesn't exactly take a rocket scientist to know what that actually meant. All through dinner, they kept making comments and faces. Glen even went as far as asking questions on lesbian sex! I mean like seriously! I would have thought that Ashley would have been more embarrassed then I was about all of this but she was just laughing right along with them and even answering some of Glen's questions. My father just sat there smiling and putting his 2 sense in every once in a while. Whenever Glen would ask a completely inappropriate questions, dad would cover his ears and just start humming. Me? Well I just sat there with my face getting redder and redder by the minute. I am even sure if it was embarrassment or anger that was making my face so red.
"Babe, are you ok?"
"Just peachy!"
"Awe come on babe even your dad is laughing."
"Yeah well maybe if he hadn't informed my brothers of our weekend then I wouldn't be sitting here trying to keep my dinner down."
"Oh so am I that bad that you can't even keep your dinner down? Gee, thanks! And to think, I actually had an amazing weekend and was hoping we would be able to do it again soon!"
"Excuse me children but I think that is my que to start cleaning up."
Dad left the table and went into the kitchen to start putting all of the left overs away.
"Did you need some help dad?"
"Sure honey. You know I really am sorry that I let it slip about your weekend. I do have to ask you one question though. I am pretty sure I already know the answer but I just have to ask."
"Ok, what is it dad?"
"Ashley did respect you right? She didn't force anything on you and she treated you like a queen?"
"Dad, Ashley was absolutely and completely amazing! She made sure we went at my pace and asked me, multiple times I might add, if I was sure I was ready. She is so sweet and caring. You really don't ever have to worry about anything with her. I know I am in good hands."
"I believe you are too sweetie. I really believe you two will be something more than just high school sweet hearts."
"You know if you had told a year ago that I meet the person I am supposed to be with for the rest of my life in high school, I would have looked at you like you were stupid. If you had told me that moving to Florida would introduce me to the love of my life, I would have told you that you were insane. There is something about Ashley and I don't even know how to describe it but I can myself with her for the rest of my life."
"Just promise me one thing Spence, don't ever take each other for granted. Don't ever stop telling each other that you love each other, don't stop believing in each other, don't stop doing the little things because at the end of the day that's what matters most. Not the money, not the social life, not the materialistic things."
"Dad is everything ok with you and mom?"
"Sweetie, I am not going to lie to you or your brothers anymore. One night this week, I promise I will sit down with 4 of my kids and talk to you."
"Four?"
"Ashley is a part of this family and I consider her my daughter just as much as you. I might as well get used to it because I know she is going to be my daughter-in-law one day."
"Funny, her dad says the same things about me haha"
"When am I going to get to meet him? I think we should arrange a get together."
"I think that would be great. It is about time you guys meet. I will talk to Ashley tonight about it and see if she knows when he is going to be home again."
"Sounds great." I couldn't help but walk over and give him a big hug.
"Everything ok? I'm sorry babe if I upset you."
"No your fine, I promise. I was just chatting with my dad."
"I will head back out finish cleaning off the table then." She smiled, squeezed my hand and walked back out.
"You ok in here dad or did you need more help?"
"You are fine honey. Why don't you help Ashley bring the dishes in here and then you guys can go watch a movie or something. I will have your brothers do the dishes."
"Are you sure?"
"Positive."
"Thanks dad, I love you so much!"
"I love you too sweetie."
I went into the dining room and helped Ashley finish collecting all the dirty dishes. Once they were all in the kitchen, we went up to my bedroom to watch a movie.
"Is everything ok?"
"Of course, why wouldn't it be?"
"I don't know, it seemed like you and your dad were having a very intense conversation. Just wanted to make sure you were ok."
"I won't lie; some things are not ok in my family but they will be. By the way, dad told that things are not good between him and mom. He wants to sit down one night this week and talk with all four of his kids."
"Four?"
"Yeah he said that you are a part of this family and you're going to be his daughter-in-law one day so might as well start now."
"What is it with our dads and thinking we are going to be together forever?" Ashley said laughing and walking into the bathroom. I thought she said that she saw us together in 50 years, was she lying?
I just sat on the edge of the bed playing with my fingers waiting for her to come out of the bathroom so I could go in. I must of zoned out because she is kneeling in front of me.
"Babe are you ok? You kind of spaced on me."
"Ash do you not want to be with forever?"
"What do you mean baby?"
"Well when I told you what my dad said, the way you made it sound was like it was an absurd thought for us to actually make it and be together forever."
"Oh my god, babe, I hope and pray we make it. Every Sunday when we are sitting in Church, that is what I pray for. I thank God for bringing you into myself and ask him to make sure I don't do anything stupid to lose you."
"Awe really?"
"Yes!"
"I love you Ashley Davies!"
"I love you Spencer Carlin!"
With that, I kissed her. Is it really crazy to think that even though we have only known each other for 2 months, that she is the one for me?
