…for all of you, being by my side.
*12 Days Later, Kumawaka Residence*
(Third-Person View)
"WHAT?! IT IS?!"
"Yup. Today is Wyvern's Birthday."
"Schnell, you could've told us more earlier! Like when we arrived here on Friday night."
Schnell giggled. "Sorry, Weiss. It's a disorder."
Weiss sighed and facepalmed. "Nevermind. But most importantly, why didn't he tell us about it?"
"He thinks it's not necessary for him." Schnell answered.
Nora jumped up. "EHH?! I object! It is so one of the most important things in life for a human, faunus, zhulong, or any other living thing, besides the Grimm! For a birthday for someone, it's mandatory!" She crossed her arms and smiled enthusiastically.
Inside Wyvern's Folly, everybody except Wyvern was inside the living room. He was told to help his parents inside the main palace by organizing the entire house, which was part of the plan. Xavior and Charlotte just love making surprises for their son. Wyvern didn't mind the work, considering he's a bit of a workaholic, so it will might as well keep him busy as the others were working on plan. Ruby and Schnell were in charge of everything. For a surprise party for Wyvern. He knew it was his birthday, but he was not going to expect a surprise from his friends from Beacon, and in The Drahen Empire. They didn't invite a huge load of guests, but only another Zhulong. Not counting Schnell, Gyo will be joining in as well. It was mentioned by Schnell that Gyo loves baking as much as Wyvern.
Ruby was sitting down on the couch, next to her entire team, while thinking about what to get for Wyvern today. Jaune and his team were still looking for an idea on a gift as well. Schnell was with Awaiash, just thinking about the same thing that the hunters-in-training. Except Awaiashi was kept being teased by Schnell, causing a struggle to concentrate and puzzle in her ideas.
"Man!" Jaune groaned. "I can't even think of anything!"
"Is there literally nothing in your head?" Nora tilted her head.
"What? No! I meant: I don't have any ideas on what to give for Wyvern on his special day."
"Is it a boy or a girl?"
"Schnell!" Awaiashi nudged her, hard.
"Kidding. Kidding." She giggled immaturely.
Weiss shuttered in disturbance. "I can't imagine that joke, Ms. Gozen."
"Hmph…" Schnell smirked and looked at everyone else. "But hey, that doesn't mean we don't have enough time to go to Diayamondo City to get him some presents."
"Still should've told us this earlier than today…" Weiss mumbled.
Ren rested his head on his hand. "We don't have, and know the currency of The Drahen Empire." He told her. "Back in Vale, we have Liens instead of… what is the currency called in this place?"
"Xens." Schnell answered him. "But don't worry about it. Look who you're talking to."
"A dirty Ice Dragon?" Awaiashi spoke, while looking down at her book.
"Nuu~! I'm the daughter of the governor of the north. I have a lot of Xens, to pay for your presents!" Schnell winked.
Ruby gave a light smile and shook her head. "Please. You don't really have to treat us for buying gifts for Wyvern."
"But, I just can't let you be empty handed on his birthday! I made my decision, I'm bringing you all to Diayamondo City to find your gifts for him." She stood and gave a smile.
"Do we have to?" Yang raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, Yang. I can help you on finding a gift, for your boyfriend." Ruby nudged.
She sighed loudly, as her face turned to a shade of pink. "We're not like that. And that's not going to happen."
"Somebody is denying her love. It's so cute." Schnell giggled.
"Look, can we just focus on Wyvern's party?" Yang tried to change the subject.
Schnell sat back down and looked at all of them, again. "Alright. I would like to hear each of your ideas on what you will buy. Any volunteers to go first?"
Pyrrha was the first one to raise her hand. "I'm probably going to look for some sort of talisman for Wyvern. Everyone needs one for the best of luck against danger, don't you agree?"
She nodded by her idea. "I agree." Her eyes dialed at Ruby and asked her. "Ms. Rose? What about you? Anything?"
"An antique?" Ruby asked.
Yang chuckled. "In his own country?"
"No, no. He already has enough." Schnell pointed her finger at a shelf of souvenirs that Wyvern already had. "Anything else?"
"How about a a new pair of beats for his music?" She asked again.
"That sounds more better." She smiled.
"I'll might as well find him a cool looking jacket." Jaune shrugged.
"I'm going to buy him Megami Chocolate. I heard Wyvern loves those as much as drawing and writing dōujinshi!" Nora smiled happily.
"Dōujinshi? What dōujinshi?" Schnell's eyes widened in surprise.
"Oopsie… nevermind what I said." She laughed nervously.
"A neckless for him would be nice enough from me." Weiss said.
"I'll get him a new watch." Ren told her.
"A new scarf might help, considering it gets chilly up here." Blake said.
"My gift to him will be a stereo system for his music." Yang smiled.
Schnell looked at Awaiashi and patted her head. "What about Cutey Scwatchy Fur Ball here?"
Awaiashi pouted and made an annoyed expression. "I'll buy that jerk a gum ball."
"How crude. Come now, he saved your life back at Diayamondo City. Be thankful that you're still here." Schnell patted her head more.
Her cat ears twitched and blushed. "Hmph."
"Ms. Shizuka, are you denying your care to him?"
"Denying my care for him? How absurd!" She blushed even more, making her look like a doll. Schnell knew she was lying. Because her voice and expression didn't seem believable.
"Aww~!" Schnell pinched her cheek. "She really does care."
"Urusai!" She yelled.
"What are you buying him?" Jaune asked.
"Me?" Schnell smiled. "I'm buying Wyvern a new phone."
Awaiashi sighed loudly and looked down. "I'm just getting him a plushie."
"That's better!" Schnell patted her head softly.
Yang got off the couch and stretched. "So, we going to head off now?"
"If you eight are ready, that is."
"We're all dressed already. Let's get going." Ruby stood up, as everyone else did the same.
Schnell stood up and walked towards the front door, but stopped herself for a second and looked through the peephole. She was making sure Wyvern was nowhere to be found outside. She slowly creaked the door open and went outside, as the rest followed her. Looking at the upper floor window, Charlotte, Wyvern's mother was seen giving Schnell a thumbs up saying she is clear to go. They wanted Wyvern to think they were still in his folly house. Not in Diayamondo City, buying him gifts.
"Oh my gosh! This is like being ninja!" Nora gleed.
"Nora, keep it down." Ren said.
Under Charlotte's go, Schnell led the group around the palace to the front. Checking if the front was clear of Wyvern, it was obviously good to move. Her Bullhead escort craft was right there, parked in the edge in the front of the palace. Since Wyvern was in a room facing the backyard, he was unable to see, or hear it. Upon reaching Schnell's Bullhead, they each hoped onboard and took their seats. The interior was a little similar to Wyvern's Bullhead, which was piloted by Sciathan.
"Does every Zhulong have this kind of Bullhead?" Blake asked.
Schnell nodded. "Yup. If you were one, you were to be in charge of either a state, city, industry, or something. All who was part of the Zhulong Order, was put in charged of something, something important to let The Drahen Empire grow. My kind is pretty much the highest class in the empire."
"Oh, okay." Blake learned something new.
"Come on. We really should be going." Weiss said.
"No problem. Sherry, prep for lift off!"
"Roger that!" The pilot gave a thumbs up.
"Oh yeah." Schnell looked at Yang and walked towards her. "Yang?"
"Need something?" She smiled.
"Stand still please."
Schnell walked towards Yang closely, who was confused by her interactions with her. When she was close enough to her body, both of their chests were against each other. Yang's eyes widened about what was going on. Schnell took out her phone and snapped a picture down at both of their chests. Ruby was confused, wondering what was that about. Well… she was about to find out when Schnell stepped back away from Yang.
"What was that for?" Yang blushed.
"A little 'Happy Birthday' tease." Schnell sent it to Wyvern.
Inside the palace, Wyvern was in his desk, writing on a few papers that his parents wanted him to do. He was finishing them quickly, knowing his first set of his job was about to be finished. Suddenly, his phone on his desk vibrated from an incoming message. He put his pen down and took his phone. A new message from Schnell…
He sighed and opened it, revealing the picture of Schnell and Yang's… chests against each other.
Outside the palace… his voice was heard.
"OH DEAR GOD! SCHNELL!" Wyvern yelled in annoyance.
"Hahaha! Priceless!" Schnell laughed.
"How lewd of you …" Ruby chuckled.
*Diayamondo City, Doragon*
The Zhulong's Nest, one of the largest malls in all of Remnant.
Today, the mall is what it usually is on Saturdays. It was packed. That, and because Saturday Sales are pretty common in almost all malls. But the horde of shoppers didn't stop Schnell and her group from finding their gifts for a certain Prince's birthday. Ruby's and Jaune's Team stayed close to Schnell, since she already knows this place more than them. She most likely memorized the directory. Awaiashi on the other hand, was holding onto her hand like a little girl, afraid of getting lost from her mother. Considering Schnell and Awaiashi are like sisters, Yang found it cute and wrapped her arm around Ruby. Little did she know, it was embarrassing Ruby, as her face was… 'Red like Roses'.
"There it is! We're here!" Schnell said happily, pointing at the sign above the entrance, labeled: Marsaili's Shop.
Nora sniffed loudly and shot her eyes open. "I smell chocolate!"
"It's inside the shop, in a separate room." She told her.
"Ehehe… Can we go in now? Can we? Can we?! Can we?!"
"Calm down, Ms. Valkyrie." Schnell chuckled and gave her four hundred Xens. "Don't be a stranger."
"YAY!" Nora was about to dash on in, but was stopped when Ren held her arm. "Aww~…" She looked down in defeat.
"Lie Ren, here you are." Schnell gave the same amount of Xens that Nora had, to him.
"Thank you." He smiled and let go of his energetic lady friend.
"I'M COMING MY BABIES!" Nora dashed through the entrance, almost crashing into one of the employees.
"Nora! Wait up!" Ren chased after her.
Schnell giggled and walked next to the others. "Is she always like that?"
"Usually. Yes." Pyrrha chuckled.
"Oh, right." She opened her purse and took out more money, then handed over four hundred Xens to each of them. After giving them the money, they all began to examine it, since it was their first time to see what The Drahen Empire's currency looks like. Schnell couldn't help but giggle by their curiosity of the cash she gave them to buy Wyvern's gift.
Awaiashi rolled her eyes. "The Xens aren't going to spend themselves, you know." She smiled.
"Uh… right!" Jaune walked in, as Pyrrha followed him.
"Well, let's not waste any time finding a perfect present for Wyvern." Pyrrha said.
Jaune nodded. "Yeah. We wouldn't want him to find out we're not in his folly."
"I am sure his parents got it all covered. I mean, it's best to finish early and help out with setting up everything with Gyo."
"I guess so." He opened the door for Pyrrha to allow her to go first. "Ladies first."
"Thank you." She smiled.
"Yeah. Y-Your welcome." Jaune's face had a dash of red as she passed through the door. He then followed her in.
"Ooo~, such a gentleman." Schnell smiled and began to walk inside the store. "Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta find Wyvern a perfect mobile phone."
Awaiashi followed. "And I gotta find that fool a stupid plushie."
"Don't be such a tsundere." She patted her head.
"Shut up!"
Ruby and her team just awkwardly stood where they are for a few seconds, before they realized it. Blake began to make her way inside the store, and turned her head back at her team, still standing in the same spot.
"Let's get going." She told them.
"Er… right!" The three of them said and followed her lead.
Inside Marsaili's, the group was wide spread out throughout the store. It was surprisingly not as crowded than the center of the mall. Jaune and Blake were looking around in the clothing section for winter, Weiss and Pyrrha were looking around in the jewelry section, Schnell, Ruby and Yang were in the electronics corner, and Awaiashi was looking at a set of stuffed animals. Even though she loves them, she mainly focused on Wyvern's taste. Even though she doesn't know if he likes plushies or not, it's better than nothing. Or more than a gumball. As for Ren and Nora, they accompanied Jaune on selecting a jacket.
Poor Nora was being held in by Ren. She was crying in the inside that she didn't get to immediately go inside the chocolate shop. To try to pass the time, she began to daydream about being inside the shop. She was exaggerating, drooling by the thoughts in her head, eating the many types of chocolate. Ren had to keep a hanky with him to wipe her mouth clean. He felt like he was taking care of a little sister of his. Or… a girlfriend. An unstable one, that is.
Ren sighed and tapped Nora's head. "Nora? Reality just called, and they want you back."
She snapped out of it, but frowned by his interference. "Reny! You ruined my daydreamy!" She whined.
"You were drifting off into space. Didn't want you to suffocate."
"Come to think of it, I've always wanted to be an astronaut. Look a Remnant from space, possible mine dust on the moon, even though that is a little suicidal, but it would've been so much fu-"
"Guys?" Jaune interrupted. "I hate to interrupt, but don't you think this will be good for him?" He showed both of them a jacket with a whacky combination.
Nora raised an eyebrow. "Did a five year old make that jacket?"
"He won't like it, won't he?" He sighed in disappointment.
"Don't worry. I'm sure he'll like it." Ren smiled.
"Really?"
"We don't know." Nora blurted, before getting lightly chopped on her head by Ren.
"Owie…"
"Come now, it wasn't that hard."
"It didn't hurt my head, it hurt my heart." Nora pouted.
He smiled and patted her shoulder. "Always making that cute face. Very convincing."
Jaune put the jacket back in the rack. "Meh. I'll look for another one." He looked back at Ren. "By the way, shouldn't you be looking for some Watch for Wyvern? You don't need to accompany me."
"Oh, right. Come on Nora." He made his way to the section where the watches were.
"B-But… the chocolates…"
"Later. After I find a gift."
"Waaah~!" Nora whined.
In the electronics corner, Ruby was testing out the beats she picked up, just to be sure they're giving good quality, and feel comfortable to wear. Yang was keeping an eye out for the stereo systems on sale. Tuning up the volume on one of them, she began to dance a bit, as her little sister just stared at her. Ruby sighed and focused back on listening to the beats. Yang looked back at Ruby, and saw she was still paying attention to her own business. She tuned it up even louder, and began to dance like she was into it. Not much improvement to get Ruby's attention. She began to sing along with it, but nothing… again.
"Come on, sis! Dance with me!" Yang yelled impatiently.
Ruby finally looked up at her and gave a suppressed sigh. "Why would I want to do that?"
She pouted. "You're no fun, at all."
"I don't want to dance like I'm some psycho going through a seizure."
"It's called, 'Dancing'. Have you heard of it?" She ruffled her hair. "Get some fun into you."
"Hey. I can be fun too, you know." Ruby crossed her arms.
"Prove it, when we get back for Wyvern's surprise party."
"You bet your butt, I will." She gave an evil smirk.
"Now then, let's dance!"
"Fweh?!" Ruby felt her arm get forcefully pulled by Yang, and began move her around. "Quit it!"
"Loosen up, Ruby."
"Stop!"
"What are you two doing?" A familiar voice asked them. It was Weiss, holding onto the necklace she just bought for Wyvern.
"Weiss! Just run! Save yourself!" Ruby squirmed.
Weiss sighed and gave a serious look at Yang. "Look, we don't got all day. Find your present for Wyvern, or you'll be coming back empty handed."
"Okay, okay." Yang let go Ruby and began to find a stereo system again.
"Thanks, Weiss."
"Don't mention it."
After ten minutes have passed, most of everybody already has paid for their gifts. That just leaves Nora; with Ren watching over her, Pyrrha, and Yang. The rest just waited outside the shop, sitting on a bench. Schnell was taking pictures of herself, and the others with her, using the mobile phone she bought for Wyvern's gift. Ruby was listening to her music, while using the headphone beats she recently bought. Weiss was still hanging on to the necklace, while staring blankly at it. Blake was sitting calmly, with the scarf she bought on her lap, while reading a book, just like Awaiashi. Jaune was asleep, laying his head on his hand.
Inside, Yang was already finished, along with Pyrrha. They went to the cashier and paid by the Xens that Schnell gave them. Ren was done as well, but had to watch over Nora, just in case she goes cocoa for chocolate. No pun intended.
"There it is!" Nora pointed her hand at the entrance of a chocolate shop. It was named 'Sweet Palace'.
"No running. Just walk." Ren told her.
Nora frowned and crossed her arms. "I'm not a child."
"Considering you act like one." Ren mumbled.
"Did you say something?"
"N-Nothing."
"Okey dokey! Let's go!" She skipped her way to the entrance.
Ren sighed and followed his energetic teammate. She stopped when there was a lady in the entrance, giving out free samples.
"Ma'am? Would you like a free sample?" The lady asked.
"Do I ever!" Nora snatched the small piece of chocolate from her hand.
She chuckled lightly. "Some girl is such a sweet tooth."
"She loves sweets more than anything." Ren pointed his thumb at her.
"Time to give it a try." Nora opened her mouth and put the piece in her mouth, and began to chew it. Her eyes widened, then her pupils just shrunk, with a drunken smile on her face. Staying silent and still for a few seconds, Ren shook her shoulder to an attempt to snap her out of it.
He shook her again. "Nora? You feeling okay?"
"Ehehehehe…" Was all that came out of her.
"Come on. We need to buy one for Wyvern too, you know."
"… tasting it… with my tongue…" She spoke. "… is almost… orgasmic."
"Let's move." Ren dragged her in. "Sorry about that." He apologized to the lady.
"It's fine." She smiled.
As soon as they were inside the chocolate shop, Ren shook Nora yet again. With a little flick on her forehead, she snapped back into reality.
"Huh? What happened?" Her eyes were in half-moon.
"You were in La La Land, again." Ren answered.
"Oh…" She looked down in embarrassment. "… sorry. I hope I'm not giving you any trouble."
He gave a small smile and patted her head. "Don't worry about it. Just find a pack of chocolate for Wyvern, and let's go."
"Mmm…" She frowned and placed her hand into her pocket, taking out the Xens she had. "I wonder if I can buy one for myself too."
"Find Wyvern's first, and then pick your own. If you don't have enough, I have some left over Xens." Ren said.
Nora pinched his cheek and grinned. "You're so sweet! Like this shop." She giggled.
"Thanks for the compliment." He looked away with a small smile.
After another ten minutes have passed, the group finally regrouped outside the entrance of Marsaili's. Now holding their gifts for Wyvern, they made sure not to mess it all up. Especially Yang's, which was a decent stereo system in a box. Nora, she was hoping the chocolates wouldn't melt, or perhaps eat them. Fortunately for her, it was not a hot day.
"Alrighty now! Is everyone here?" Schnell asked.
"Here." Everyone said, while raising their hands.
"Got your presents?"
"Yes."
"Sweet! And remember, be sure not to lose them."
"Yeah. Like I would forget this box I'm carrying." Yang said.
"And I'll be sure not to let Nora lose her chocolates." Ren nudged her.
"… In her stomach." Pyrrha added, with a teasing smirk.
"Hey, now. I would never do something like that." Nora crossed her arms.
"Sometimes." Ren whispered to Pyrrha.
"Wait, what was that?"
"Nothing. Nothing…"
"C'mon! That's what you always say."
"How can I say nothing when I'm literally saying nothing?"
"Eh?"
He patted her head. "Relax. I'm just pulling your leg."
A sound of vibration came from Schnell's pocket, as she put her hand inside and took out her phone. She looked at it and saw it was a text message from Gyo. She titled him on her phone: 'Red Blaze Gyo'. He told her that he was in Wyvern's folly, preparing the food and everything. She texted back that they're on their way, and looked at everybody.
"Well guys," She began. "Gyo is already setting the place up. So how about we head our way back and give him a hand."
"I'm game." Ruby nodded.
"Ready when you are, Ms. Gozen." Pyrrha smiled.
"Let's go!" Schnell winked. "Hey, Awaiashi. You need a piggyback ride?"
"I'm fine. I have two legs." She replied.
"… to open, soon."
"Not funny!"
*20 Minutes Later, Kumawaka Residence*
At the front of Wyvern's folly, Schnell, with the rest of the others were waiting outside. Xavior, Wyvern's father, told them that the coast was all clear. Wyvern was told to make a delivery to the residence of Schnell's parents. With him out of the picture, they all didn't need to say it out loud without worrying about him hearing it. Schnell knocked on the door and waited for a response from either Gyo, Xavior, or Charlotte. The door clicked, and creaked open to reveal who was behind the closed door.
It was a young man in a red and black light armor, with two tomahawks on his sides. His hair was red, and had yellow eyes; which displayed a bit of a zhulong's pupil. His appearance and aura made everybody but Schnell feel uneasy. But he gave a friendly smile, even when his eyes still displayed an indifferent state, almost like Blake's.
"Gyo!" Schnell hugged the young man tightly. "How's life?"
"Tiring. But it's always like this in reality." He shrugged and gave a small chuckle. Gyo's eyes laid onto the group of hunters-to-be. "I'm assuming these are Wyvern's allies."
"I got chills down my spine, just because of him." Jaune whispered.
"My name is Gyo Reddo Naoshige. I am a Fire Zhulong, son of Yuki and Amelia Naoshige; who happens to be the leaders of Chishi Industries, a branch for the production of the Drahen Empire's military weapons, technology, and war machines used for defense purposes."
"Quite a mouthful, don't you think?" Schnell nudged.
"Well, for the sake of their curiosity on what I do. Even though my little brother and sister are the ones mostly working with Chishi Industries."
She glared at him. "Slave work is illegal, you know?"
"What the-?! They weren't forced to work! They wanted to help out with my parents just like what I do."
"Easy now. I was just messing with you." Schnell laughed. "Sorry I interrupted everyone one of your 'introductions', go ahead and introduce yourselves to Gyo. He may look dangerous, but he doesn't bite."
As everyone introduced themselves individually, Schnell headed inside to finish setting up the place. She saw that Xavior and Charlotte were already inside, working on the decorations and everything. Both of them were already half-way done. After the others finish talking to Gyo, they went inside were given orders on what to do. Jaune and his team were told to help Charlotte with the decorations and presents upstairs. And Ruby, with her team, were told to help Xavior or Gyo with the downstairs decorations, and food set up.
"Thank you so much for helping us with my son's birthday." Charlotte thanked Jaune and his team.
He smiled. "Anything we can do, we would be glad to help."
"We would like to show you our gratitude as well. I would never say 'No' to such a higher class family. Especially if they're the rulers of Doragon, and The Drahen Empire." Pyrrha said.
"Please. I should be the one thanking not only you, but Ruby and her friends as well. You all did the right thing to support my Wyvern, as he supports you all back." She bowed her head.
Ruby smiled, after hearing Charlotte's thanks to all of them. Xavior chuckled while he was working on the table.
"My wife seems to be very happy for you eight. I, myself, am glad that my son met you all. He sees you all like your very important to him in this lifetime." Xavior bowed his head.
"I think you and your wife are more important to Wyvern. You both are his parents, after all. And without you falling for each other, he wouldn't be here with us. As well as Ruby, Jaune, and myself, with the rest." Weiss smiled.
In the kitchen, Ruby and Gyo were working on decorating the cake. Since it was an elaborate cake, Gyo needed some help. Ruby was the only one available for now, while the others were working on the decorations around the interior of the folly. While working, they just had a friendly conversation without screwing anything up on the piece of art.
"Really? Aren't the Bolt and Immoral Dragon not supposed to bear a child/hatchling?" Ruby asked.
Gyo chuckled. "Where did that outlandish fact come from?"
"Wait, what? Can't they?"
"Is that what Wyvern told you? Meh. Probably just trying to hide some facts about his race."
Ruby was confused, and decided to ask a question to clear it up. "So… they could have a baby?"
"Yes. In truth to Wyvern's story, he was born when Ostanes did a ritual on him to let him live. He was very sick when he was born. That ritual was taboo, because it requires a human life to heal and recover somebody. Instead, Ostanes used the ingredients of a human body instead of a live human being." Gyo explained.
"Ooo… smart." She commented.
"Even though they didn't use the horrendous way, Wyvern still thinks its a sin. As well as himself. Hope that covers it up."
"I feel… betrayed." Ruby laughed.
"When did he tell you that?"
"The second day I met him."
"That explains why. He probably hid it from you just to make sure."
"Guys? The cake all set?" Schnell asked from above them in the ledge of the deck.
"All set." Gyo gave a thumbs up.
"Ruby, get up here and wrap the presents with Jaune. He can't really accomplish it by himself." She looked back at him, struggling to finish his task.
She headed her way up. "I'm on it."
After using the stairs to get up, Ruby sat next to Jaune and began to help him out on the wrapping of the gifts they bought in the Zhulong's Nest Mall. She wrapped up her gift first, before starting with the others. At one point, she blankly stared at Nora's present; that contained a box of Megami Chocolate. The picture was what caused her to drool a bit, but she went back to work when Jaune was staring at her, confused on what she was doing.
She stopped when she came across Yang's present for Wyvern. She looked down the ledge, and saw her sister helping Blake and Xavior with the table of food. Ruby made her way to Yang's guest bed, and took out something from her bag. Walking back to Jaune, who was still busy wrapping the presents, she still had the unknown object behind her back. She slowly and carefully opened the box, and placed something inside. With a mischievous smirk across her face, she quietly laughed evilly.
Jaune took notice upon this. "What is it?" He asked.
"Huh? Nothing. Just excited for the party." She gave an innocent smile.
"Well, glad to hear. I am too." He smiled and got back to work.
"Yo, Ruby?" Yang called her little sister.
"Need something?" She asks.
"When you're finished, can you help me with the balloons and stuff?"
"Anything for you, Yang." Ruby nodded.
While having a little break, Weiss sat down on her guest bed and looked around the entire folly, covered in all kinds of decorations for Wyvern's surprise party. This made her rme, ener the time Wyvern showed her about what happened around ten years ago, when he was setting up a birthday party for… Naveen. After witnessing that, she would often times feel grim about thinking of his past, or even Ammit. When she looked down at the table, where the gifts and foods were placed, her heart felt like was struck by a dagger. It was reminding her about his past again.
She shook it off and headed downstairs to get back to work. Weiss went next to Blake, who was working on setting up the drinks on a separate table. Blake noticed she was looking grim, and decided to ask what was wrong.
"Weiss? Are you okay?" She asked.
"Huh? Oh. I'm fine. Thank you for your concern." Weiss gave an innocent smile.
Blake frowned, and her cat ears went down a bit. "You don't have to hide anything. Just say it."
Weiss sighed and gave her a serious look. "It was about Wyvern and his deceased friends. One of them, named Naveen."
"Yes. I've heard of her."
"This party is reminding me of what Wyvern told me. She died on the day of her birthday, while Wyvern was setting it up a party for her, in this very folly." She told her.
"Oh…" Blake looked down.
"But how about this. We will make this party for Wyvern, the best one he has ever had. I know what he has been through, and I want to make sure he will forget about the horrible things that has happened to him." Weiss smiled.
Blake nodded. "Yeah. Let's make it happen."
As time comes by, everyone was working hard and fast to finish everything up before Wyvern's arrival. They wanted to make this party the one that he would never forget. It was a good time, since he is turning 18 years old, now approaching adulthood. Xavior and Charlotte were the ones who were more proud than everybody. Watching their son grow, it was the best thing they could ever see since the beginning. Ruby made a promise to herself to never abandon Wyvern as a friend. She would always give him support, along with her team. Jaune made this promise as well. Like how his team depends on him, while he himself didn't think he was good enough to be heir leader.
It was almost time to show Wyvern how much they care about him.
*35 minutes later. Outside Wyvern's Folly*
(Wyvern's POV)
Damn.
Finally finished all of the errands I had to do today.
I sat down on one of the garden's benches, and yawned out of relief. My parents really gave me a lot of work today. It may be my birthday, but that doesn't mean I want to take a day off. No matter what, I just like to get things done for my family. I sit here as I enjoy the fresh air, just thinking about my new age of 18. Nothing really special about being 18 years old. My height was probably going to stay the same as well. I'm just a few centimeters shorter than Yang, and Blake. Standing on my feet, it felt the same. I sighed in disappointment.
Having enough of the outside, I knocked on my own door just in case. Some footsteps were heard from behind the door, but the door itself didn't open yet. Knocking again, still nobody would answer it. I knocked louder, and still nothing.
"Guys? Everything okay?" I asked, a bit worryingly.
Silence. They were probably in the main palace or something. Before I made my way to the palace behind me, a faint voice was heard on the door I knocked. It was muffled, but understandable enough.
"..door is open.." It told me.
"Coming in!" I warned.
I opened the door and got a good look inside. It was dark. Really dark. Just pitch black like the Grimm. I would just remove the word 'good', because it's impossible to look inside except for the coming light from the front door.
"Ruby? Jaune? Schnell? Why the heck are the lights off?" I asked, and flipped the light switch.
BOOM!
As soon as I heard that, I reached for one of my swords, but was stopped when I realized it was just… confetti?
"SURPRISE~!" Many voices yelled out and rang my ears. I noticed everybody popped out from behind some furniture, or jumped down from the second floor deck.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" I heard Schnell's voice from behind me, and felt her arms wrap around me, tightly.
"CONGRATS!" Nora went up to me and blew a party horn at my face.
Looking at everybody, as my folly was completely decorated, I couldn't help but smile. Did they do all of this while I was gone? Well, who else would've done it? Schnell's arms let go of me, as she stepped in front of me.
"Just thought we'd do something special for you. It is your 18th Birthday, after all." She smiled.
"And don't say this wasn't necessary." Nora said. "You're probably the first guy to say that about his own birthday."
Charlotte, my mother, ran up to me and gave me a hug, that was more powerful than Schnell's.
"My little Wyvern is finally a big boy!" She patted my head.
"You're saying that like I just turned eight or ten." I looked away, then at Awaiashi. "Like her."
"Muu-" Awaiashi gave me a deathly glare.
"I'm just kidding!" I laughed.
Xavior, my father, joined in with my mother's hug. "I'm proud of you, son. I may be the happiest Zhulong today. You'll feel this way when you have your own child."
"True." I shrugged.
Ruby gave a small teasing smirk. "Who do you think the mother will be?"
"Now's not the time to think about it, yet." I rolled my eyes.
"Well, Happy Birthday then!" She gave a thumbs up.
Each of everyone said the same thing Ruby says. Just either a Happy Birthday or Congratulations for being 18. I thanked them, and bowed as my parents did the same thing as well. My parents also thanked my friends for helping them set up the entire party.
Gyo stepped up and patted my shoulder. "Now would be a good time to see your cake, and blow that candle."
"You made me a cake?"
"It's your birthday. What do you think?" He chuckled.
As all of us walked to the dining room table, it all displayed many types of food around this huge elaborate birthday cake. My eyes laid mostly on the cake.
Gyo made all that?!
Like what was said, my birthday cake was a huge elaborate one of The Zhulongs. It had each of the family symbols on the sides, the order's emblem in one, and a realistic and detailed sculpture of a Zhulong on the top. It held a candle that was molded the number 18. Vanilla frosting, chocolate chips, and everything else to make you not say 'No' to this cake.
"I can just eat all of that right now." Nora drooled.
"No. You already had your chocolate." Ren reminded her.
"Can I at least have some?"
"Some. Not too much."
"We all can have some. After Wyvern blows the candle." Pyrrha said.
Blake cleared my way and gave a smile. "Alright, Wyvern. Time to make a wish."
I nodded and stepped closer to the table. As everybody began to sing 'Happy Birthday' to me, I put my hands together, like it was a prayer, gave a small lick to both of my thumbs, and bowed while facing the candle. This is what Zhulongs usually do when they're about to blow their birthday candles. The fire represents the energy we all have in our hearts. Why I licked my thumbs was because I am offering part of my power to the fire by blowing it towards it. When the flame is extinguished, the smoke rises up to the Gods to confirm I have matured, or 'ripened'.
After blowing the candle, they all clapped their hands and was each handed out a plate from Gyo. It was time to eat. My parents, Schnell, Gyo, and I made prayer hands, while Ruby and the rest decided to do the same thing. As soon as we bowed, they followed along as well. Then, we began to fill our plates up with food, and started to eat.
I was enjoying my party, but deep inside, I felt… heartsore. Having a party in my folly reminded me on what I was doing when I was seven. I was preparing Naveen's 7th Birthday at that day. Having a huge crush on her when I was young, my soul has left me when I heard she was killed… on her birthday. Weiss already knows about this, because I showed her by using my red eye just around two weeks ago. I felt remorseful for showing her that. It wasn't necessary to show her what it was like to be me.
"Wyvern?" I heard a voice call right next to me. It was Weiss. "You feeling okay?"
"Uh… yeah. Just worked too much today." I chuckled.
"Well," She placed her hand on my shoulder. "right now, you can just have fun and enjoy the party."
"Mm. You're right." I smiled.
"After you finish your meal, you should start opening your presents." Weiss pointed her thumb at the table full of gifts.
"You guys bought me presents?" I asked in surprise.
"Like I said, it's your birthday, after all." Gyo said.
Yang shrugged. "We kinda were in Diayamondo City's Zhulong's Nest Mall, buying you the gifts, while you were busy today."
"How surreptitious." I chuckled and placed my empty plate on the table. "As much as it wasn't nece-"
"AH!" Nora interrupted me.
"Fine. It was very nice of all of you to get me a gift from each of you all." I smiled and bowed my head.
Gyo nodded. "Start off with your parent's presents for you. Then go to mine, Schnell's, and the rest."
"The best for last, it seems?" Awaiashi looked at him.
"You can put it like that."
I sat down on the couch, and began to unwrap the one from my dad. It was a bit flat, but pretty big in length and width. As I took out the present wrap, I realized it was a portrait of… me. My dad's signature was on the bottom right, with the title of the painting as well. It was my full name: 'Wyvern Akua Kumawaka'. The painting itself was done accurately and flawlessly well done.
"I love it! Thanks, dad!" I smiled.
"That took me two weeks to finish! Wasn't really that hard, but it took awhile." He laughed.
"Open mine next!" My mom suggested.
"I was getting to yours." I chuckled and placed my dad's painting next to me.
Holding onto my mom's present for me, it was a tiny bit smaller than my dad's. I began to unwrap it, and say it was a new laptop.
"Whoa-!" Nora and Ruby commented.
"Wow. Thank you so much! This will make things more easier in Beacon." I said to my mom.
"Your son is going to look at some inappropriate material on that thing." Schnell giggled.
"Let him. He's all grown up."
"MOM!" I blushed wildly. "I would never!"
"Nevermind them. Open mine." Gyo smiled.
Opening the present Gyo got me, it was a lava lamp that was able to turn into six different colors.
"Sweet! Thanks, Gyo."
"Don't mention it." He gave a thumbs up.
As I set his down, I picked up one from Awaiashi. I grinned at her as she just glared back at me.
"You really do care." I teased.
"Hmph." She pouted.
Schnell grabbed a hold of her and snuggled her face into her chest. "Awaiashi! Why are you so kawaii~!"
"Stop it~!" She resisted.
I opened her present and saw it was just a plushie in a box. It also came with a note inside, saying: 'Happy Birthday, Wyvern. I still couldn't thank you enough for saving me back in Diayamondo City two weeks ago. I owe you a lot. But don't think that'll be infinite!'.
I smiled at Awaiahi after reading that note. "You're welcome."
She eased up with a smile.
Next up, was Schnell's present. I was getting nervous about this. Who knows what kind of gift does she have in mind for me.
"If this is another boob shot, I swear." I gave a sharp glare.
"Don't worry. It's not. Otherwise, one of the girls would know about it." She pointed at Yang, who's face was bright red, showing the 'Leave me alone' face.
I cautiously unwrapped and opened the small box. It was a new mobile phone I have always needed. Showing a smile at her, I bowed my head.
"Thank you so much!"
"You want a bonus with that?" I saw her tug her shirt and took out her phone.
"No!"
"I'm just kidding." She laughed.
"Now, let's see what your friends from Beacon has gotten you." My dad said.
I took one from my left and saw it was from Jaune. His face was showing he was a bit nervous to see if I like it or not. I opened the box and saw a unique looking sweater. It was styled with a white Zhulong in the center with its scales in black flames. I took it out and checked the size. It looks like it fits perfectly.
"Thank you, Jaune! I appreciate this." I smiled.
"Whew. Thank goodness it's okay with you." He sighed in relief.
Moving on to the next present, it was a medium sized box that was from Nora. I unwrapped it and saw it was one of my most favorite chocolate brands.
"Sweet! Thanks, Nora!" I grinned.
"Yay!" She cheered.
"Sorry." Ren said.
"About what?" I asked.
"Just in case she ate all of it in secrecy."
"Hey! I would never do that to someone's present."
After that, I moved onto a the present. It was from Ren this time. Upon opening it, I saw it was new watch. I actually loved the style of this one.
"Thanks for the Watch! Really nice."
"You're welcome." He nodded.
After Ren's, I was now holding Pyrrha's. I unwrapped it easily, because it was a pretty small box. Inside was a black box with a glass cover, showing the inside of it. It was a miniature green jadeite shield that has a small rope to wrap around like a bracelet.
"Ooo… This looks pretty cool. Thanks!"
"That was almost the same exact talisman that my grandfather, Leon Nikos II had when he was fighting against the Grimm." Pyrrha told me.
"Well, I'm glad to have this talisman, similar to your grandfather's."
Now all that's left is Ruby and her team's gifts. I picked Ruby's first and unwrapped it, noticing the label was already exposed. It was the M4X Beats that I've been looking forward to getting. I smiled and gave Ruby a thumbs up.
"Thank you, Ruby!"
"No need to thank me." She smiled back.
Picking up the next one, was Weiss'. Opening it, it was a silver necklace with a black gem pendant.
"I like it." I said while putting it on my neck.
"Does it fit okay?" She asked me.
"It's good. Thank you!"
"Mm hmm." She bowed.
Second to last was Blake's. Opening it, it was a white box that contained a black and red scarf, with aqua strands in the sides. I put it on and asked the others on their thoughts.
"I could use this a lot, since the cold season is coming. How does it look?"
"Looks comfy." Blake said.
Ruby nodded. "Yeah. It does."
"Thank you, Blake."
"Of course." She nodded.
Last but not least, Yang. I unwrapped the present and saw it was a sweet stereo system.
"Cool! Thank you, Yang!"
"Anytime." She winked.
"The box is open already." Awaiashi pointed out.
"Really?" I opened the box, but immediately shut it. My cheeks were turning warm as I awkwardly sat on the couch.
Schnell raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong?"
"Uh… I… er…" I stammered.
"Let us see it."
I could tell Yang was confused about what was wrong with me. As well as everybody, except Ruby, who was suspiciously turning her head the opposite direction. Yang walked towards where I sat and placed her hands on the box.
"It's just a stereo system, right?" She asked.
I sighed and shuttered. "Thank you for that. But why is this in here?" I took out…
… a pair of yellow panties.
Yang's eyes shot open in an instant and snatched it away from my hands. Her face was now turning red from embarrassment. Wait, so was that Yang's… DEAR GOD! I covered my face with my hood and balaclava in complete humiliation and shame for holding her… I don't even want to think about it!
"Where did you get that?!" Yang asked while covering her face.
"It was in the box! I swear! How would've I known that it was in there?!"
Nora's face was red as well. "Things just got… awkward." She commented.
"Ooo~. Yang, nice bonus present." Schnell teased.
"You misunderstand! I would never do that!" Yang responded.
"Don't worry, sis." Ruby smiled innocently. "I'm sure Wyvern was okay with it."
"You got it all wrong! Both literally and figuratively!" I said.
"Wait a second," Jaune stared at Ruby in shock. "Didn't I see you put something in Yang's present for Wyvern?"
"WHAT?!" I felt Yang's aura turn hotter, and hotter.
"What? No. Of course not." Ruby shook her head.
Yang cracked her knuckles and gave a fake friendly smile. "Ruby?" She remained calm. "Tell me the truth. I'm not mad or anything, but just tell me if you did this. Were you the one who placed my panties in there?"
"She's angry." Ren whispered.
"No. She's pissed." Blake corrected.
"Why would I do something like that? You know I would never mess around with you." Ruby frowned.
"About what happened in Vale City, two weeks ago." Weiss crossed her arms.
"Ehehehe…" Ruby laughed nervously.
Yang's hair looked like it was catching flames. I got off my couch and stepped back, as everybody did as well. Ruby just stood there, like she already knew how this would go.
"So it was you, wasn't it?" Yang gave a smile that I wouldn't even DARE look at.
"Uh… Yang? Do you need a glass of water?" I asked cautiously.
She looked back at me with her eyes, that were no longer lilac. But flaming rage red! I had chills down my spine upon seeing her glare at me like that. Her flames were getting even bigger, which was legitimately scaring me. More than what happened to me at the second day of Beacon, when she punched me with her active gloves.
"With ice…?" I added, with a choked voice.
"Uh, Yang?" Ruby called. "Look, I'm sorry for doing that. Please forgive me." She attempted her puppy eyes to convince her.
Yang sighed loudly, as I saw the flames on her hair eased up. Her eyes were back to their original color, and she put her hands on her hips.
"After this party, I'm gonna have to talk to you outside in private."
Normally Schnell would make a joke about what she said, but she knew it wasn't a good time.
"Okay. Sorry, Yang." Ruby frowned.
"It's fine." Yang gave a small smile, and faced at me. "Oh, and Wyvern?"
"Yes?"
"ERASE WHAT YOU JUST SAW!" Yang glared.
"I won't hesitate!" I responded, in fear.
Silence.
Oh my god…. That was just terrifying.
"Oh, right!" I realized something and looked at my friends from Beacon. "I know it's not any of your birthdays, but… I would like to offer the eight of you something."
Ruby raised an eyebrow. "Offer what?"
"You really don't have to give us anything." Weiss insisted.
"Please." I said. My mom and dad came out with eight boxes on the ground. "Just accept these for the token of my gratitude. For how much good you all have given to me." My mom gave one of each boxes to Ruby and her team, while my dad did the same with Jaune and his team.
Each box displayed their name. All of them had no idea what was inside these boxes. Nor do they know why they received this. I told them this was my thanks to all of them. For standing by my side, and becoming my friends after we had a bad start. Professor Ozpin said it himself, that he trusts Team RWBY and JNPR about my secrets.
Ruby opened her gift, and took out something that made her eyes widened in amazement. It was a red scarf, with actual finely mined rubies. Her full name was sewn on it, presenting who it belongs to.
Weiss had the same reaction with hers. She opened her box, and saw a Purachina Class Dress. One if the most expensive dresses in all of Doragon. It was beautiful, by its white and ice blue colors while it shined its glitters by the light inside the folly.
Blake gave a wide smile by hers. Her gift was a six string guitar with some kitten patterns and such. It came with some accessories and a training guide on how to use it. She strummed it with a pick, and hugged it. One if the first times to see her like this.
Yang loves her new motorcycle helmet. It had her same style as the Bumblebee motorbike, with flames around it. It was a special one. The visor on the helmet was like a heads-up display, showing any mobile vehicle's speed limits, and automatically identifies the type of vehicle.
Jaune got an instrument, just like Blake. It was a keyboard piano, still in the box. The box showed the picture of what it looked like. Shining black and silver.
Nora got a Zhulong Royalty Tea Set, which she was really excited about. Probably thinking about having a tea party with her team in the future.
Pyrrha found she received a gold vase with green and red jasper on the sides. It matched her colors a bit.
Ren got a K-Cup coffee maker. To make things a bit more easier to keep his team a little up in the morning. But the con for it is to keep cautious when Nora is near it.
"I would like to also give the each of you, these gifts." I got off my seat and was given eight small boxes from my father. As I gave each of them one box that had their names on it, I looked back at them and smiled. "Open them."
They did so and had a good look inside. What was in the boxes was an expensive cell phone, diamond bracelets with their names on it, and pocket watches with my family symbol. All eight of them were speechless on their other gifts. Their new phones even matched their style.
"We would like to thank you all, for befriending our son." My parents bowed their head.
"On how much Wyvern has been through, you guys did all you can to support him while in Beacon, when we weren't there. Please, keep doing this for our Prince." Schnell bowed her head, along with Gyo.
I smiled and bowed my head. "So, can we stay as friends?"
"Haven't we been friends ever since?" I felt Ruby pat my head.
"Of course we will!" Jaune smiled.
"I have no regrets for meeting you. I'm still very sorry about what I did to you on your second day of Beacon." Weiss gave a guilty expression, with a smile.
"No worries. That was just the past." I smiled back.
Blake gave a warm smile. "It was fun scaring you. Keep in mind I might do that in the future."
"I'll keep my eyes open." I smirked.
Yang ruffled my hair and gave a quick hug. "Hope I didn't hurt you too much back then. Sorry I was the one who mostly gave you the pain." She blushed.
"It's okay. Just remind me not to mess with you." I grinned nervously.
"Oh. We are still on that Cat vs Dog relationship." Yang smirked.
"Tsundere~…" Nora whispered.
"If you require any assistance from us, just say the word." Pyrrha told me.
"Don't be afraid to ask us if you need help." Nora said.
"Yeah. We got your back." Ren smiled.
"So do we, your parents, and The Zhulong order." Gyo said and bowed to me with Schnell.
"We love you, son. Ever since you were born in this world." My parents, Xavior and Charlotte smiled at me.
Awaiashi grabbed my hand and smiled as well. "I still can't thank you enough, Wyvern."
I smiled happily, knowing how much I was getting this amount of support from everyone. Master Ostanes made the right decision to place me in Beacon to continue my training. Although he didn't tell me why, I'm glad that I attended here. Where I met Ruby and the others.
"Everyone?" My mother called, and pulled out a camera. "Let us take a picture to remember this day!"
"Everybody next to the cake. After this, we'll eat it all up." My father said, as we did what he said.
"Yay!" Nora cheered, again.
As we all arranged ourselves in a perfect spot and position of the camera, my mom held the camera up and began to take pictures. There was a different set of pictures to be taken. Me, by myself; one with Schnell and Gyo, one with Team RWBY, etc. We all smiled for the camera on each photo. Even though the flash of light was too much. At one point, my parents set up the camera on a stand, and set a timer on it to take the picture. They quickly ran to us, and found a good spot next to me.
*Flash*
"Okay. Wyvern, Team RWBY and JNPR, stay right there. Let's take one with the hunters-to-be of Beacon." Xavior suggested.
"Alright, Dad." I smiled.
"No bunny ears this time, Nora." Ren told her.
"Oh c'mon! That's the best part about taking pictures!" She pouted.
"Smile!"
*Flash*
This day, was one of the best I have ever had in my life. My birthday party with some of my friends and family. It was all that I could ever hope for. Finally 18 years old, but it's hard to believe that it has been this long. But here I am, with everybody I care about. But, if only my fallen friends back in the past that I always look behind me, were here to enjoy my happiness. Sadly, it cannot become a reality now. All I can do is imagine them in my memories. They helped me on my feet, and even did it for me to ascend by my wings.
I look all around me, and see that I'm not alone anymore. I love this feeling. It makes me turn my back away from the past, and avoids the sadness and sorrowful events that has happened to me.
I can't thank them enough.
All I can say is…
Thank you…
…for all of you, being by my side.
