I woke to a mind numbing snoring coming from next to my bed.
"Ron?" I rubbed my eyes to see Lena sitting in the chair next to me, with her feet propped up on my bed. I didn't feel any more of the sharp pains that I did before, but I was very tired.
"I knew that child would be useless" Nessa chuckled as she entered, tray full of potions before her. "Good thing I placed a detector charm on the bed."
"What happened?" I yawned.
"My niece here said she would let me know when you woke, but here she is snoring away." She unloaded the tray on to my bedside table.
"Before that." I rolled my eyes.
"Oh, yes." She sat the tray to the side. "Your body tried to go into preterm labor. She would have been okay, but she's just not ready. So now you have to stay off your feet until your ninth month. So that your labor can start naturally then, and not now. Also, no magic."
"That's almost a whole month!" I gasped.
Lena snorted and sat up suddenly "Aunt Nessa! Ginny is awake." She rubbed her eyes and upon opening them saw Nessa and I giving her a curious look. "Oh, I guess you already- uh, yeah. I'll shut up now" she sat back and looked embarrassed.
"If you want your daughter to be healthy and strong you will stay in that bed. Now drink this." She passed me several potions. "We are keeping you in the main house, we have a wheelchair so we can wheel you around upstairs, but other than that you stay in this bed until instructed otherwise."
I swallowed three potions and heard my stomach growl.
"Sally! She is hungry!" Nessa shouted.
I had them in and out of my room all day, Cassandra came up to tell me that everything went well at the huge meeting, and they had chosen Tony as well as her to help with the take down of Tom. Nessa voiced her displeasure. Loudly.
For the rest of the month I grew rounder and rounder, Elizabeth tried her hardest to keep me entertained, bringing books, or crafts to me every day. Lena stayed with me most of the time, and would wheel me about the second floor every day.
On this particular day I was sitting in bed making jewelry with Elizabeth. I heard a snap from the door. Lena leaned against the door jam, camera in hand.
"Must you?" My voice dripped with annoyance.
"Look, I am not going to be on Harry Potter's bad side after has had defeated the most evil wizard in the world." She chuckled, walking over to the bed. "Guess what my lovely aunt told me to give you?"
She held out my wand.
"Finally!" I shouted, yanking it out of her hand. I swished it around in the air, feeling the warmth in my fingers.
"Along with being strong enough for magic, you are also able to use the shower." She smiled.
"Now?" I was so excited. I was only
allowed baths for the past month, which was okay at first, but now my belly was protruding out of the water even in Sally's huge claw-footed bathtub.
"Her only stipulation was that someone has to stay in the bathroom with you. To make sure you don't get caught up in the shower curtain and die or anything" She informed, but I was too excited to listen. I clapped my hands and began my trek to getting off my bed. Elizabeth got up and helped me scoot to the edge and Lena held my hands while I slid off the side. I waddled to my bathroom, holding my now very heavy belly.
My modesty had gone out the window. I completely stripped in front of my best friend, and she helped my step into the shower, shutting the curtain behind me.
"Don't pretend to be shy or anything." She laughed from the other side of the curtain.
"I'm one huge stretch mark, so what does it matter?" I let the hot water wash over me.
"Don't be like that Ginny. Your beautiful!" She gasped at me.
I scrubbed shampoo in to my scalp. "No offense Lena, but you aren't exactly my target audience anyway." I laughed.
"Too bad." I heard her snap her fingers in mock defeat.
"I'm sorry about all this, I know there haven't been many dating opportunities since we left. The only men around are related to you." I continued to scrub my hair.
"Men?" She sounded confused.
"Yes Lena. Men to date."
"Ginny. I thought you knew." She cleared her throat awkwardly.
"Knew what?" I began to rinse my hair.
"Ginny. I'm gay." She almost whispered.
I jerked the curtain back and looked at her, suds still dripping out of my hair "What? Why didn't you say?"
"It never came up." She shrugged.
"Wow. In the almost nine months that I have known you, sexual orientation never came up." I closed the curtain back when I saw how much water I was getting on the floor.
"Is that, okay?" I could hear her moving around.
"Why does it matter if it's okay with me? If you're gay, you're gay. You don't need anyone's approval." I started putting a metric ton of cream rinse in my hair.
"Well, some people get offended. And I never had any siblings, you're like my sister, and I don't want you to be upset."
"Awww, Lena. I don't care if you fall in love with a giant purple alien, as long as they treat you well." I rinsed my self off and opened the curtain, stepping out starkers.
"And your still naked. Get yourself together woman." She tossed me a towel.
"What? You expected me to not be naked just cause you announced that you are a lesbian? Wrong. I don't care." I dried myself off and slipped a flowy dress and some underwear on.
"I'm glad nothing changed."she laughed as I tossed my wet towel at her.
"But you went on about that guy at work. Why didn't you say?" I asked.
"Just because he was almost stalking me doesn't mean I like him back!" She hung my towel on the door. "My family isn't exactly accepting, so I don't talk about it much."
"Sally?" I charmed my hair dry.
"No, never Sally and Nessa. My mom and dad mostly. They got very upset and told me that all they ever wanted was grandchildren, and I was denying them that. Didn't let me talk about other options." She picked at my quilt uncomfortably.
"I'm sorry. Is that why they were so upset about us spending Christmas together?" I stood and stretched, happy to be free of the bed for a moment.
"That's exactly why they were so upset. I tried to explain that you were married, pregnant, and like a sister to me. But all they heard was that there was a woman living with me." She rolled over on her stomach at the foot of my bed.
"Odds are, out of the seven of us kids, one of us would be gay. So far that's a big negative, but I guess mum and dad knew their chances because every time Charlie comes home they always go into how they love him for who he is. Little do they know Charlie has a unrivaled love for women. Battle scars from dragons tend to attract loads of girls, and he will all to quickly invite them to his place." I bent forward to touch my toes, but my belly blocked me.
"Your family just sounds perfect." Lena sighed.
"They are a very loving and accepting bunch. No one can fight like us though. Physical violence is common among my brothers and I, but anyone else tries to get in on one of us that isn't family, we stand together, a force to be reckoned with. And talk about grudge holding, my mother can hold a grudge for years if you don't come clean to her. Most people are down right frightened of her. Even my oldest brothers will bow to her will, even though she's only about five foot tall and both Charlie and Bill are over six foot. Along with being the authoritarian, she is also the most loving person I have ever met. No one can love like Molly Weasley, I hope I am half the mum she is." I finally settled myself back into the chair with my feet propped up.
"I wish I had that. My cousins and I were close enough, but my parents. Never." She yawned.
"When I go back home you should come with me. My family would love you and you would fit right in!" I sat up in my chair, very excited.
"I dunno Ginny." She sighed.
"Come on. Maybe I could find you a good witch the settle down with" I chuckled.
"I think I have had just about enough of you magical folk," she teased "I need to find another muggle like me"
I tossed a pillow at her face. "Whatever, once you have been around magic, there is no going back I heard. At least that's what Tony says."
I woke a few hours later, still in the chair. Being so close to delivery, my hips were wider, and bed rest had helped me gain weight mostly in my butt and thighs. So I felt squeezed in to the chair and couldn't get myself out of it.
"Lena!" I whispered in the dark.
"Hu?" I heard her snort out of her sleep.
"Help me out. I have to pee."
I could see her shadowy form get up and help me out of the chair before she plopped back on to the mattress.
After visiting the facilities I wrapped my robe around myself and carefully walked about the house in the dark. My rumbling belly lead me to the kitchen and I set to making myself a peanut butter sandwich. When I opened the refrigerator for a glass of milk I heard a slight noise behind me.
My pulse quickened and I took to deep breaths before I spun on my heel, pulling my wand out and facing my foe head on.
"Glad to know you can protect your self girl, but please point your wand elsewhere." Nessa looked at me over the cup of coffee she was sipping at the table.
"How do you always know when I get up?" I put my wand away and went back to pouring myself a glass.
"I don't think it is recommended for you to be walking the house at the dead of night." She countered.
"I do want to talk to you." I sat down with my plate.
"Hm?" She hummed.
"About the prophecy." I took a bite "Born of another family. What can that even mean?"
"Finally. You ask." She smiled. "I told you the story of Fauna."
I nodded.
"Well that protection of the shed obviously didn't cover you and Lena. But we can include your daughter." Nessa informed.
"How? Why?"
"Think of this Ginevra. That prophecy says Voldemort will die three after her birth. Three days, three weeks, three years, three decades. It is not specific. All of that time she could be protected." She sipped her cup again.
"Makes sense." I said mouth full.
"She just needs to be born by my hand and carry the Luchane name."
"But her last name will be Potter." I swallowed down some milk.
"Luchane Potter." She corrected.
"It will keep her safe though right?"
"As safe as the rest of my grandchildren.
