Clary and Jonathan paused after a while in front of a small cinema.
"What do you want to see?", he asked her, handing her a leaflet.
Clary glanced through the pages, and undecided she handed it back.
"Anything you want.", she said.
"No, I insist you pick.", Jonathan smiled too merrily for Clary's liking.
As if he is actually enjoying a dull movie night instead of conquering the world, Clary thought.
"Fine.", she snapped annoyed.
"Since you INSIST… I want to see -Barbie in the Fairy Academy-".
Jonathan eyed her furiously and Clary smiled.
"You aren't even funny.", he said angrily and shred the movie leaflet in pieces.
He grabbed her by the arm and dragged her on the first random entrance to a movie room. After paying on the spot, they sat on the back of the room.
"Where do you find the money everytime?", Clary asked while they waited for the movie to start.
"I dance at strip clubs, they give good tips.", he replied.
Clary choked.
"I'm kidding.", he said again casually, avoiding to reply.
"Suit yourself.", Clary said drily and stared at the black screen. The room was almost empty except for a couple families carrying pop corn and colas.
"We didn't get popcorn.", she said after a while, sounding lame to her own ears.
Jonathan grinned and snapped his fingers. A box of popcorn appeared on his lap.
"How…", Clary asked incredoulously.
"I picked some tricks.", he said casually.
"But shadowhunters aren't allowed to use magic! This is a demon trait, like warlocks…", Clary trailed off into silence, realising he was after all half demon. Also he was hardly the one that abides to the rules of the Clave.
Jonathan just grinned at her and handed her the popcorn.
The lights dimmed even further as more people got their seats. "If it turns out to be a romance movie, I'm out.", Clary said.
"It might be a shark movie.", Jonathan replied.
Before Clary could say anything more, bright letters and vivid music appeared on the screen.
Both Clary and Jonathan watched in horror as -Barbie in Fairy Academy- started.
"It is what you wanted to see after all.", he said after cursing their bad luck.
"I did not wanted to see that! Can we go to another movie?", Clary begged.
"No. Fate wanted us to see this.", Jonathan seemed to enjoy her dismay, although he didn't seem particularly happy either.
"Shhhh!", came a voice from ahead of them.
Jonathan's jaw clenched at that, but he remained still glaring at the screen. Five minutes later he grabbed a handful of popcorn and threw it at whomever had shooshed him.
Clary held back from laughing as they both faked ignorance.
Several crying children asking for bathroom and many dancing fairy barbies afterwards, the movie was finally over.
Clary breathed in relief when the lights were on again. She could swear Jonathan was staring at her the entire movie. She pretend to watch the screen, since all her annoyed glances at him just made him smirk.
"That movie was awful. Mundane kids are so protected in their bubble that they make the easiest targets for demons.", Jonathan commented as they exited the building.
"As if you care. Your plan, whatever it is, will probably eradicate the entire planet.", said Clary.
"Sometimes cleansing is necessary.", he replied.
"Your little world has very little to do with what I will accomplish. You can choose to stand by me, your brother and blood, or against me. You should be honoured.".
"I don't stand by murderers.", Clary replied angrily.
"You don't have a choise. Last time you took matters in your own hands, your friend almost died. Was it worth it?", he said again.
"Your place is on my side, and I will do whatever it takes to make you learn this lesson. Or are you too self-centered in your own justice that you would do anything to get your way, no matter who dies? I should have killed your friend, Clarissa. But turns out you are more ruthless and uncaring than I thought.", he finished.
"So now are you blaming me for your almost-murder of my friend?", asked Clary incredulously.
"You are not a child anymore Clary! When will you grow up? The world is not black and white, and it does not revolve around your own unease or your own beliefs. When you take a decision, you have to go through with it no matter the consequences. You can leave me and face my anger or you can stay and deal with me. You can't have both. You act out on your emotions too much. You are your own misery, not me.", Jonathan replied angrily.
Clary stared at him for too long. His words meant nothing to her. He made her suffer, he took advantage of her, he used her and she did care too much about her friends to let anything like it happen again. She will have to find a way to protect them. And she will kill Jonathan.
Note: Sorry this is short.
