It was on the Friday, two days before Sirius' birthday on the 18th of June, 1978, when Katherine had asked him, well actually more like told him that they were going to his house for the weekend, just the two of them. She had come into his dorm room like a storm, dismissing his roommates to leave for breakfast. She had started by packing a bunch of her favourites of Sirius' shirts into a duffel bag, along with some trousers and other necessities for a weekend away, all the while Sirius stared at her wide-eyed.
"What are you doing?" He asked incredulously, following her around the room as she picked things up and stuffed them in the bag, his hands waving in frustration at her outbursts.
"I am packing your bag, can't you see?" She did not turn to face him but only continued around the room.
Sirius stalked up to her and grabbed the bag from her hands settled it on the bed against her protests and grabbed her wrists in his hands jerking her from her tantrum. He bent his head to look her in the eye. "What are you doing?" he asked calmly, smiling at her impatient face.
"I was trying to pack your stuff for our weekend away, before you stopped me that is."
"And why are we going to my house for the whole weekend anyway? Might I ask?" He teased.
"It's your birthday on Sunday! The first of your birthdays with me! And I want to make your day special." She exclaimed.
"Then why are we spending the whole weekend together when my birthday is only on Sunday?" He knew the answer but he wanted to hear her say it.
She hesitated but said, "I want to spend the whole weekend with you. I want to spend every moment of it together and every moment of your birthday to be with me." She tried to hide the rising blush in her cheeks but he just kissed each cheek and helped her pack the rest of the stuff.
It had been exactly a week since they had gotten back together after months of being apart, of holding back everything they felt for each other. Now, it was coming back full force, maybe even stronger than before. They had both relished in the moments together in the past week but they were short with the last minute cramming for finals and the finals themselves. They had had barely any time together and so once finals had finished on that Friday, Katherine wanted to escape with her wonderful boyfriend to his giant mansion by the lake for a weekend of relaxation she'd been hoping for.
Katherine had been fantasizing having all that time to them to spend in each other's company. She had as well prepared a surprise for Sirius' 18th birthday, as the muggles called it the birthday that you became a legal adult, though in the wizarding world 17 was legal age.
Katherine just hoped she could make his birthday a day for him to remember.
It was bright in the morning on the Saturday, the day before Sirius' birthday, when they arrived at his house and when Katherine gave Sirius the most peculiar of gifts.
"I'm giving you 3 wishes. Tell me what you want and I will grant your wish to the best of my abilities, but you can only use them today and tomorrow." Katherine had declared, quite proud of her brilliant idea to spend part of their two days together.
"Only three?" he teased.
"Only three? What do you mean only three? You should be glad you got even three, I was planning on only giving you one wish!" Katherine crossed her arms across her chest and glared at him.
He only laughed because she looked that much more beautiful when she was angry. "Alright, alright. I'll take the three that you give me. But what should my first wish be?"
"It can be anything at all. Something I can buy or make for you, or something you want me to do for you, or something you've always wanted from me but never bothered to ask for." A curious light lit her face as she anticipated his first of three wishes.
After a thoughtful look he said simply, "Cook for me."
"Cook for you? Out of anything in the world that you could ask for, you want me to cook for you? You do realize that I'm a horrible cook, right?" she stated amazed.
"Ha, I don't believe that you're a horrible cook. But no to be more specific, I want you to bake cookies for me. Chocolate chip cookies." He smiled one of his rare true smiles, the ones that reached his eyes, the ones he reserved only for her.
Katherine realized then what he meant before he even explained. "Remember when I said, that I'd marry you in an instant, if you could bake cookies like Mrs. Potter can? Well, I want you to bake cookies for me."
Katherine laughed, "Alright, but it's your funeral. Anything that I bake will probably send you to the hospital." She walked over to the kitchen, which was quite modern to be in this Gothic mansion, with its marble counter and white cabinets, and she began pulling ingredients out for her first ever chocolate chip cookies.
"I concede that you were right. You are a horrible cook. These taste like rocks." Sirius declared throwing down one of the brick like cookies back onto the plate after almost breaking a tooth on it. Katherine had almost set the house on fire baking those cookies and Sirius had to bring in the fire extinguisher out.
"See? I told you. I'm a horrible cook. I would make the worst wife in the world and an even worse mother." Katherine stared dejectedly at the cookies. "What kind of mom can't bake her kids some good chocolate chip cookies?"
"Hey. You may not be able to cook, but I can. I don't need a wife who can cook, because I don't mind doing the cooking for you. I don't need you to make our kids cookies because they will learn to love your stories instead, the ones you'll tell them about you and me, of the days when we fell in love." Sirius took her hand in his over the counter and pulled her around it to sit next to him. "So, why don't you let me do the cooking today and you just sit back and relax."
Within the hour, Sirius had cooked up a feast for dinner, complete with pasta and salad, and a wonderful chocolate mousse for desert.
Katherine had stood next to him, watching as he beat the chocolate mousse in a bowl. "Stand back a bit would you? It looks as if you're going to fall into all the chocolate." Sirius teased.
"I am not. I was just watching how you were making it." Katherine replied stubbornly.
Sirius dug a couple fingers in the mousse when she was not looking and pasted it on her nose when she turned.
"Hey!" She grabbed some herself in both hands and wiped it on the stubble on his chin and cheeks. She took the rest on her hands and licked it off relishing in the chocolaty goodness.
"You're getting chocolate all over your face." Sirius said watching her.
"Hmm?" Katherine mumbled right before Sirius decided to clean the chocolate off her face with his lips, tracing kisses along her jaw, and licking the chocolate off her lips.
"There that's better now." Sirius laughed lifting her in the air by the waist, carrying her to the couch so that he could 'clean' some more chocolate off her.
