Leaf was waiting in the restoration lab for her newly re animated fossil pokemon.
"Well Ms. Green may I present to you a three hundred million year old Kabuto." the doctor said handing her a pokeball.
Leaf thanked the man before she sprinted out of the building and ran all the way back to the pokemon centre to show Lucas and Dawn her new pokemon.
She found them and pulled them to behind the pokemon centre and said "alright Kabuto come on out!"
Out of the pokeball was what looked like a rock with glowing red eyes.
Leaf crouched down "hello." she said with a big smile.
"Buto." it rumbled.
Leaf reached out to pet it's shell but Kabuto leapt back from her.
"There's no need to be scared." Leaf said.
"Kabuto." it rumbled again.
Leaf slowly grabbed some pokemon food from her pocket and slowly held out her hand and said "I bet you must be hungry." she said as she shook her hand a little and made the food move a little.
"Buto?" it rumbled.
"I know Bulbasaur come on out!" Leaf said.
The small grass starter came out and looked at the new pokemon with interest.
"Bulbasaur could you show Kabuto that this food is really yummy?" Leaf asked.
"Saur." Bulbasaur nodded and grabbed one piece of food with her vine and ate it.
"Buto?" Kabuto asked Bulbasaur.
"Saur." Bulbasaur answered with a nod.
Kabuto slowly shuffled forward and used one of its legs to stab the pokemon food and pulled it under its shell.
"Kabuto." it rumbled sounding happy before it stabbed another piece of pokemon food and ate it.
Leaf slowly reached out with her other hand and started to pet Kabuto's shell.
"So Kabuto you want to meet some friends of mine?" Leaf asked.
Kabuto looked a little hesitant so Bulbasaur patted it's shell with one of her vines.
Leaf smiled at Bulbasaur and then grabbed her other pokeballs and threw them. All of her other pokemon said their names upon being released.
Gible, upon being released leapt up and started to gnaw on her head like he usually did.
Her other pokemon moved over to the new pokemon and said their name in greeting.
"Buto." it rumbled to the other pokemon.
Gible walked over and right away started to gnaw on Kabuto's shell.
"Buto!" the fossil pokemon cried in alarm before spinning around quickly in an attempt to dislodge Gible.
"Ah! No Gible let go of Kabuto!" Leaf cried out.
Gible let go of Kabuto, who's red eyes seemed to glow with anger and launched a multicolored beam that froze Gible solid.
"Gible." the dragon type muttered from his icy prison.
"Oh man." Leaf said as she hit her head with her palm and looked over at Lucas and Dawn who were laughing their heads off.
"Stop laughing and give me a hand." Leaf grumbled.
They finally stopped laughing and Lucas sent out a pokemon that Leaf didn't recognize but it looked like an orange stove.
"Rotom melt that ice please." Lucas said.
"Tom." it boomed before floating over to Gible, opening it's door and launching a powerful flame that melted the ice in seconds.
"Ok now Gible that wasn't very nice. Bitting Kabuto like that. Say your sorry." Leaf said.
"Gible." he muttered to Kabuto.
"Good. And Kabuto that wasn't very nice freezing Gible like that. Believe it or not that's just how he says hello. Now apologize to Gible for freezing him." Leaf said.
"Buto." it rumbled.
"Good. Now I think it's time to find out about you." Leaf said as she pulled out her pokedex and scanned her newest pokemon.
"This Kabuto is a male and knows the following moves.
Aurora beam.
Water gun.
Absorb.
Scratch.
"So you know absorb? Great maybe Bulbasaur or Torterra can help you learn mega drain." Leaf said.
"Saur." Bulbasaur said with a nod.
Leaf went over to Lucas and Dawn "thanks for the help Lucas." she said.
"No problem." he replied.
"So Leaf, where to now?" Dawn asked.
"I'm not sure." Leaf said before pulling out a map "yesterday when I found Gible I ran into someone who said that somewhere along route eleven there's some kind of obstruction so the only other way we have is going back to Cerulean City and going down route nine and heading to the dark cave.
"Dark, dark cave?" Dawn asked while shivering in fear.
"You going to get Magmortar or Luxray?" Lucas asked.
"I'm getting one of them that's for sure." Dawn said.
"So what are you going to do Lucas?" Leaf asked.
"Unfortunately I have to go catch a boat back to Sinnoh." Lucas said.
"What? You can't leave! You just got here!" Dawn said.
Lucas wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her into a hug.
Leaf seeing that this was a private moment walked back over to her pokemon.
"So Kabuto do you feel like having a small battle? To see what you can do?" Leaf asked.
"Buto!" Kabuto said looking happy.
"Great!" Leaf said before noticing Nidorino laying down and remembering what she'd said about talking to him "just give me a minuet." she said.
Leaf walked over and knelt down next to Nidorino and said "Nidorino we have to talk."
Nidorino turned his head to look at Leaf and said "Nido?"
"Nidorino I want to start using you in battles again, I really do, it's thanks to you that I was able to win some of the battles before." Leaf said.
"Rino." Nidorino said.
"But if I'm going to start using you I have to be sure that you won't lose control like before." Leaf said.
"Nidorino." he said looking ashamed.
"Can you promise me you won't lose control?" Leaf asked.
Nidorino was silent for quite a while before he looked her straight in the eyes and nodded.
Leaf smiled and hugged the pokemon and said "great!"
Walking back she said to Kabuto "ok Kabuto I'm going to have you face Nidorino ok?"
"Buto." Kabuto said.
"Uh Leaf? Are you sure using Kabuto is a great idea?" Dawn asked.
"I've talked to him and he said he'll be ok. And besides if I see the slightest hint of him going crazy I'll just return him." Leaf said.
"Ok Nidorino can you come here please?" Leaf asked.
Nidorino ran over and Leaf explained what was going to happen.
Both pokemon stood opposite of each other and Leaf said "ok Nidorino let's start with horn attack! Kabuto dodge it!"
Nidorino quickly sprinted at Kabuto with its head down ready to jab Kabuto who didn't dodge like Leaf wanted.
Nidorino ran right into Kabuto who was pushed back but gave no indication that he felt anything.
"Kabuto why didn't you dodge? Let's try this again and this time I want you to dodge. Nidorino again." Leaf said.
Nidorino ran forward again and jabbed Kabuto with his horn and just like before he gave no indication of feeling anything.
"Why isn't he dodging?" Leaf asked.
"Maybe try some attacking moves." Dawn suggested.
"I guess. Ok Kabuto use water gun!" Leaf said.
A jet of water shot from underneath Kabuto's shell and hit Nidorino.
The poison type shook his head and glared at Kabuto.
"That's good power. Now use aurora beam and Nidorino you dodge it!" Leaf said.
Kabuto launched another multicolored beam from beneath it's shell that froze the ground where Nidorino had just been standing.
"Great. Now let's go back to dodging. Nidorino!" Leaf said.
Nidorino charged Kabuto again and jabbed him with his horn.
"Ok hold on." Leaf said as she walked to Kabuto
Dawn however said "Leaf wait I think I know what's going on!"
Leaf looked over at her friend "what do you mean?"
"Your Kabuto is like my Torterra." Dawn said.
"Again I ask; what do you mean?"
"Look Torterra's big, huge actually and he obviously can't dodge well. After he evolved from a small and speedy Turtwig he lost much of his speed but his defense grew to compensate. So I think Kabuto would rather stand his ground and take the hits instead of trying to dodge." Dawn explained.
Leaf looked at Kabuto "is that true Kabuto?" Leaf asked.
"Buto." he said with a nod.
"Well this is going to be different. All of my other pokemon are fast and can dodge attacks." Leaf said.
"Learning how to train different types of pokemon is crucial if you want to be a good trainer." Lucas chimed in.
A/N well now Leaf has six pokemon. And now it's time for Dawn to catch some.
That's pretty much all I have to say really.
