A few years before takao's first child, around thirteen years prior to the present, a fate turning incident occurred. During this time Akashi was the alpha and kuroko was beta, kagami and aomine had yet to meet. Kuroko and Akashi were living peacefully in a hut by a small river, with a young weyr that they had taken in for a short amount of time. The couple's names were Conan and Ubel. The weyr was hopelessly in love, always running off somewhere to find new ways of expressing their love for each other. Always giggling, laughing, holding hands, and always, always…smiling. Conan was Ubel's safety line, always keeping the dragon from harm, always watching closely by Ubel's side. Conan would do absolutely anything for Ubel, including sacrificing his own life. Conan's stubbornness to protect his mate, you might say, is the reason this incident occurred.

Evening was setting fondly onto the river as Conan left the small hut alone and headed towards his meeting place with Ubel. Conan could clearly remember how beautiful the sunset was on this day, how the baby blue sky mixed into a swirl of fiery red and set the background for a large orange sun melting into the horizon. He wished he could sit and watch the sun disappear into the river, however he had to meet Ubel before the sun completely set. Today was the day his lover would become alpha.

Conan ran through the woods dodging tree roots and rocks, making his way to the meadow in which he first met Ubel. Conan thought it was romantic how Ubel was going to use this meadow as the battle ground to defeat the alpha and become leader. It made Conan smile when he thought of Ubel in such a position. Conan burst out of the woods and into the clearing only to stop half way. His smile disappeared and his eyes widened.

Blood.

Blood was the first thing Conan saw. Ubel's blood, Akashi's blood, both were dripping in it. before Conan could rush to Ubel's side, both pigmas flew back up into the air.

"I have to stop them!"

Conan rushed onto the battlefield with his mind set on stopping the two from killing each other. Conan looked up just in time to see Ubel build up fire in his chest. Conans eyes widened.

I have to stop him…!

"UBEL!"

Conans voice didn't reach Ubel on time. Ubel blew his fire at Akashi and the redhead easily dodged the attack, not realizing that an innocent bystander was now directly in the fireballs path. Conans vision was now filled with the fire that would lead to his death, and in that moment as he looked into those glorious flames and thought to himself, just like the sunset…

The ground was engulfed in flame, and ubel had realized what he had done. Tears broke free from there dam and streamed steadily down his face. His eyes were wide and his jaw was slack.

"CONAN!" he shouted and rushed down to were conan would be. He was going to rush into the flames but was stopped by akashi who placed a hand fermly on the pigmas shoulder.

"DON'T STOP ME! HES DyING!"

"THERES NOTHING YOU CAN DO UBEL!" ubels eyes widened and his tears stopped. He balled his hands into fists and a dark shadow covered his eyes.

"you did this…"

"what?"

"YOU KILLED CONAN!"

"I-"

"if you didn't dodge this wouldn't have happened!"

"Ubel…"

With Ubel's mental strength weakened, dark thoughts began to plague him. Without another word Ubel flew off leaving Akashi starring into the flames. Tears rolled down Akashi's eyes silently, as he turned away and walked back to his small hut, were his own precious mate was waiting. That night he told kuroko what had happened and both of them mourned for their lost friend. The sun had set and a friend had been lost. But everyone knows that the sun will always rise again, no matter how long we think the darkness will last.

After that moment in time, Ubel had lost his Bearings on reality. He had lost himself in guilt and revenge, and had made it his goal to ruin Akashi's life.

Conan watched over Ubel during this time. Half his face and his entire left arm were covered in bandages that hid melted and burnt skin. He had lost sight in one eye but he could still quietly watch over Ubel with the other. He could not feel anything with his left arm but he could still gently touch Ubel when he was asleep. Conan refused to let Ubel see him in his horrid state. He feared that Ubel would lose all of his reason if he saw him like this, so he stayed out of sight and watched over the pigma closely, keeping him from harm. Conan watched as Ubel planned to harm Akashi. He watched each attempt to do so. He witnessed Ubel getting exiled, and watched Ubel get sealed away. Conan had stayed out of sight for thirteen years, waiting for the seal to break. To pass time during the years he would watch the flights growth. He witnessed the birth of kami, and the arrival of kagami and aomine. By chance He witnessed the weyrs mating ritual and later, the fight between akashi and aomine and was rather surprised that aomine had won.

In the blink of an eye a decade passed and the seal on Ubel had been broken. When Conan finally saw his beloved mate, he found that Ubel's magic power had been drained so much that he was suffering from magic deficiency. Ubel was unconscious and his breathing was shallow. The magic that kept dragons alive was almost gone in Ubel. Ubel was dying. Conan had to do something, he had to keep his mate safe, and he had to keep him from dying. It was during his panic that he remembered seeing kuroko and Akashi come into aomine's cave. He remembered the conversation between kagami and the others about a dark dragon fetus. Conan didn't want to steal, but he had to. Conan carried Ubel to a hollowed out tree and laid him inside, putting a blanket over his sleeping form. He smiled and kissed Ubel on the forehead. He then through his black hood over his head and headed towards the cave. Conan is a skilled dragon. He has the ability to conceal his presence by holding his breath. This ability came in handy when faced with situations like these, and made it quite easy to watch over Ubel. Conan walked to the front entrance and peaked in. he saw kagami observing the fetus and mentally sighed.

Looks like I'm going to have to make a distraction…

Conan held his breath and walked into the cave. He walked to the place in which kagami's child resided and let out his breath. The Sian smiled at the child before apologizing and bringing his fist down fast to the baby's face making it seem as though he was going to punch him. This action succeeded in scaring the child making him cry. He then heard the child's mother come rushing, and he held his breath once more. He slipped passed kagami and rushed to the outside of the front entrance and peeked in again to make sure kuroko wasn't awake. When he figured it was safe he concealed his presence and picked up the fetus. He looked at it for a moment then pocketed it. He heard the footsteps of kagami coming his way and decided to get out of there while he still could. He walked slowly out of the cave and sighed. He had no idea that kuroko had caught a glimpse of him.

When Conan got back to Ubel he began to make sphere of magic around the fetus. It took a few hours but when the sphere hardened, he placed it in Ubel's hands and watched as a soft green glow began to surround Ubel. Conan sighed in relief but soon stiffened when he heard footsteps nearby. He followed the sound and found that it belonged to two pigmas, one of which he knew very well. He followed them and watched as they hunted boars and deer with ease. He followed them until Akashi suddenly stopped and looked in Conan's general direction. Conan's heart pounded in his chest.

Did he notice me?

Aomine looked to were Akashi was looking and Conan stiffened yet again. He knew there was no way he could take on two pigmas by himself. He squeezed his eyes shut and held his breath as hard as he could. Then he heard aomine's voice.

"Oi, what is he doing there? He'll never attract a pigma this low on the ground!" Conan looked behind him and found a black haired Sian trying to attract a mate. Conan smiled, and used the distraction to get out of there line of sight.

He waited for them to start walking again, and watched them exit the woods. He then got a glorious idea. He would use the weyr to do his bidding, and to help Ubel when he couldn't. He knew that when Ubel wakes up, he's going to want to kill Akashi. So Conan figured it would be nice if Ubel could have some help in doing that. It's not that Conan hated Akashi; it was just that he would do anything for his mate. He met up with the two, making sure not to give his name, or let them see his face. He convinced them that Ubel was the perfect leader, and that Ubel needed help taking back his territory. He told them that the flight that had taken over had a leader who would not fight Ubel unless someone was taken hostage. Conan made a deal with the weyr, stating that if Conan made a good excuse for them to become friends with the flight leader, and take someone hostage, then they could have a bit of the land that Ubel owned. Conan smiled when the weyr agreed.

Conan later found that the three great knights had come to destroy a certain magical creature that had been destroying villages and was headed for the village near the dragons. He was sure that this was the perfect opportunity. He waited a few minutes for the dragons to since the three great powers, and when he finally heard the cry's and roars in the distance, he snuck up on the three unknowing knights and froze them in stone. A trick he learned from Ubel when he first met him. With his distraction done, he gave his plan to the weyr. He told shouichi that a red haired dragon would be near shortly, and his job to get on his good side. Conan told them that they would know when they succeeded when the red head allowed hanamiya to be enter the protective zone in which the rest of the flights sians resided. He reminded them that their job was to take a hostage and to give the flight the location of the fight. The two nodded and ran off to fulfill their duty.

Conan sighed and went back to ubel. When he got there ubel was getting dressed in the clothes Conan had put out for him. Conan starred at Ubel's bare, broad chest and blushed. Oh how he wished to be held to that chest, feeling Ubel's heat again. But he knew now was not the time to reveal himself yet. So still he watched, like he had all this time. He followed Ubel as he walked through the forest and to the grave in which Ubel had made for Conan. Conan's heart broke into little pieces when he watched his love cry at his grave. He ignored the crazy laughter that came next, and smiled when his love stated that he was coming for Akashi. Ubel began walking towards the caves and after maybe an hour of walking he met up with the weyr and takao. The two spoke of the plan for a fight with Akashi as if they had been the ones to plan it. When Ubel took out the orb and asked who had given him such a powerful gift, shouichi glanced up to Conan and Conan gave him a signal basically saying it was your idea. Shouichi told Ubel that he had made that for him as a gift, to allow then into his flight. Ubel took to the lie and said that he accepted them. Later he would meet the flight for the first time in thirteen years and the battle between them would begin, and Conan would watch, just he did all this time, however when the battle turned against Ubel and Ubel was about to be killed by a terribly angry sian, Conan had no choice but to intervene.
