"Naruto." Disappointment curled in Sasuke's chest when the blonde jerked backwards, arms flailing slightly as he nearly fell off the desk. His own arms had moved from his chest to reach out to his friend, but then fell to his sides when Iruka-sensei righted the other boy instead. "Could you please take a seat on the bench? The desks weren't made for standing on."
"Of-Of course, I-Iruka-sensei. S-Sorry." Amusement made the corners of Sasuke's mouth twitch upwards at Naruto's flustered look and the deep blush painting his whiskered cheeks. His stuttering just added to how cute he was.
Wait, cute? Where did that come from?
The smirk fell from his face. He's only known the blonde since Saturday, but it feels like he's known the shorter boy since they were very little. Or at least long enough for his brain to mistakenly call him cute. Now that he thought about it, maybe it's because Naruto looks so much like a girl. His length of his hair is probably much longer than the braid it's in, and the blonde's eyes seem bigger, and way prettier, than most of the girls'. Not to mention he's shorter than Sasuke and those marks on his cheeks make him look like a baby fox or something.
Yeah, that's probably it.
(Maybe that's why you don't mind that he kissed you, either?) A voice, that sounded a great deal like his older brother, queried from the back of his mind.
Did he mind?
If it had been one of the members of his fan-club, ~insert over-exaggerated shudder here~, then he probably would've shoved them away instantly. If it had been any of the other boys, like Kiba or something, then he probably would've spluttered and gagged in disgust. But, he hadn't done either to Naruto. He had sat there, frozen, and stared into the wide, too-blue eyes of the blonde. He hadn't pulled away, and neither had Naruto, until Iruka-sensei had interru… knocked them out of their shock. Did that mean he didn't mind kissing him?
No. It was an accident. Naruto hadn't kissed him, he'd been pushed and just happened to crash into Sasuke, which resulted in their lips touching. That's why he hadn't felt disgusted or even uncomfortable about the whole incident. He knew it was an accident, because that's all it was. Nothing more.
(If that's what you want to tell yourself, Otōto.) Yep, definitely Itachi's voice.
Sasuke inwardly sighed and shook his head clear of his thoughts as he unrolled a blank scroll for notes, letting Iruka-sensei's lessons further distract him from the accidental kiss and the tingle in his lips that he was expertly ignoring. But, no matter what, the lesson couldn't keep his full attention for long. Unconsciously, his eyes will wander from his notes, over Sun-Dance's head, to stare at Naruto's hair, or he'll catch himself leaning forward to stare at the blonde's face.
He couldn't help it. Naruto's nose kept crinkling in such a way, that it pulled his cheeks just slightly and made it seem as if he really did have whiskers that twitched every so often in his concentration. Not to mention that, once in a while, the other boy would frown, his tongue peeking out of his mouth, as he tried to write as fast as Iruka-sensei was speaking, and failing at it. Which was cuter than it should be, especially when his face lifted into a bright smile when Sun-Dance would recite what he missed and-
Sasuke was letting himself become distracted again.
He'd barely written anything in his own scroll, and at this rate, he'd have to ask to copy someone's notes, lest he fall behind and that wouldn't be good.
(Naruto would probably let you borrow his, or better yet, why not ask him over after school so you can both study? I bet he'd be happy to spend some more time with Sasuke.) Itachi's voice was starting to get annoying, but it did have a point.
He'll ask the blonde after the final lesson of the day, not wanting to chance asking at lunch where his fan-club, ~insert another over-exaggerated shudder here~, could overhear him and get ideas put into their heads that he needed 'their' help. He already had enough trouble keeping them away as it is.
And speaking of which, lunchtime seemed to roll around quicker than usual, which was nice. Sasuke hastily grabbed his things and made sure to be the first one out of the room, though many of the other students tended to stay in the classroom to eat where it was cooler anyways. Though, that didn't stop many of the girls to quickly follow him, and to make sure they didn't catch up, he went down nearly every hallway and corridor, twice, before finally making his way to the roof to eat. He made sure he hadn't been followed up, before settling against one of the railings with a relieved sigh.
It was only after he had his lunch opened, when the disappointment of not being able to eat lunch with his blonde friend, settled in. He'd been in such a rush to get away from the classroom, and subsequently the girls within, that he hadn't thought to tell Naruto where he was going or ask his friend to join him for lunch.
"I'll ask him later when I ask to copy his notes." He reasoned aloud, nodding to himself as he began eating his lunch.
From his spot, Sasuke could see the entire courtyard, including the large tree with the wood-plank swing, and he idly stared at it while he ate. He lifted a brow in curiosity when he spotted a rather large group of students make their way to the tree, and then form a sort of half-circle around one side of it. He was to high up to clearly see the entirety of what was under the thick branches and leaf cover, but if he really looked, he could just see the feet of someone on the swing and the crossed legs of someone sleeping on the other side of the trunk.
Usually, he didn't care what the other students did during lunch, and usually he'd be going over his notes while he ate, but seeing as how he'd barely taken any, he had nothing to do, but watch the group. They seemed to be confronting whoever was on the swing, and he rolled his eyes when he spotted pink hair, closely followed by blonde.
Sakura and Ino had to be the worst and most annoying of his fan-club, not because they constantly fought over him, but because they were the founders, which made them even worse.
Ino pointed towards the swing and then the two of them were fighting, pulling on each other's hair, as if that was the most effective way to cause pain, and this just prompted all the others in the group to start doing the same.
Girls.
They eventually stopped when one of the ones in the back seemed to gain the attention of the rest and pointed back towards the swing, thus diverting their attention back to the poor student still sitting there. Sakura moved closer to the swing a step or two and then she and Ino immediately jumped back, clutching at each other, when something seemed to jump down from the tree and land in front of them. It was pretty amusing to watch as the girls scrambled over and into each other as they ran towards the academy in sheer panic. When they had moved far enough from the tree, he could clearly see it was Sun-Dance and Moon-Fang who were chasing the group. His curiosity peeked further at that, wondering what those girls had done to the two canines to make them give chase.
He then watched as the two ran back towards the tree and settled down on either side of the student still on the swing, which he mentally kicked himself for not realizing the student was Naruto when he first saw his friend's dogs.
And that's when red-hot anger flared in chest.
Those girls hadn't done anything to Sun-Dance or Moon-Fang. They were bullying Naruto, and they must've said something pretty nasty to make the two canines angry enough that they needed to chase them off. And this made him angry at himself for not asking his friend to eat lunch with him. He should've known those banshees would act like this, and if Naruto had been up on the roof with him, he would've been safe from their screeching.
Sasuke shook his head at himself irritably and quickly picked up his lunch. He made his way back to the classroom, determined to make it up to his friend after lessons and swearing that if those girls had made Naruto tear up even a little, he was going to return the favor. No one was going to make the blonde cry and get away with it.
With that promise set determinedly in his mind, Sasuke calmed down enough for his features to return to blank before he entered the classroom. He almost burst out laughing, straining to keep his face neutral, when he caught the fearful looks every girl was wearing and the way they all seemed to be huddled as far away from his spot, and Naruto, Sun-Dance, and Moon-Fang, as they could. Sakura and Ino were even huddled together, and that was down-right amusing on so many levels.
Sasuke just barely contained his laughter as he made his way towards his spot. Kiba kept sending Moon-Fang confused glances, but the grey dog merely shrugged a shoulder and then went back to napping. He even whined until Kiba started scratching his ears. Sun-Dance was laying more in Naruto's lap than on the bench, as if she needed to comfort him, and Sasuke's mouth twitched downwards when he noticed the blonde wouldn't look his way.
He decided to wait until later to ask him about it and got his, nearly non-existent, notes back out as Iruka-sensei continued his lesson from before lunch.
Author's Note
First off, Sasuke refers to Sun and Moon as Naruto's 'dogs' not because he's being mean, but because he doesn't know they're his siblings, or that they're wolves.
Next, sorry this chapter is a little shorter than the 2,000 words I've been striving for. I didn't want to go too much into what happens next in this chapter, seeing as how it's pretty much just Sasuke's reaction to the accidental kiss and all. I hope I didn't make him sound too OOC, but he is only about 8, so I think that gives at least a little bit of leeway.
A big thanks to KaixDecayx, yukihimi88, and the Guest reviewer, for your reviews and for asking for this chapter. I hope you enjoyed it! :D
If anyone else was wondering, the Uchiha massacre has happened, which is why Sasuke is being all broody, but I think I'm going to change up the circumstances a bit to where it wasn't Itachi behind it. I don't have the full idea of who actually did it, or why, just yet, but I can say that Sasuke knows his brother didn't do it. Though, I'm not sure if he saw who really did it or if he can't explain it, but just knows it wasn't Itachi; I'll decide that as I go. This is also why Sasuke is annoyed by the Itachi-like voice in his head and not full-out angry at it.
So, until next time!
