Sorry. Busy busy me.
The woman that hit him is going to be okay. At impact she flew through the window and the glass from the windshield cut into her side. Luckily it missed any major organs or arteries in that location and the doctors just had to stop the bleeding. Thank God she didn't have any head injuries. The doctors say she should be out of the hospital in maybe a week and a half. She was still asleep from the anesthesia from surgery when he left so he made a note to come back tomorrow.
Right now he's focused on whether Kate waited for him or not. If she didn't he wouldn't know how to handle it. The doctors cleared him to drive (It took some persuasion, but it's just a sprain. It doesn't even hurt) so he's on his way back to Johanna's now. He really hopes to see Kate's face when he walks through the door. If she's there it says a lot about where they stand in their relationship. He has no idea what it'll mean exactly but he knows it'll be a good thing.
When he pulled up and walked to the front door he could hear people talking inside. But Kate's voice wasn't amongst them.
Castle let himself in and proceeded to where he heard the voices coming from. He heard Deborah's and her fiancé's voices along with Ryan and Esposito's but he didn't hear anyone else's.
"Hey guys," he said announcing himself.
"Rick! We're all so glad you're okay," said Ryan.
"Thanks I appreciate it. Where's Johanna and Kate?"
"In the other room. They're talking."
He never expected to find them together nevermind engrossed in conversation. If they could find a way to get past everything that's happened between them maybe Kate could move back in. That way he'd get to see her all the time. Other than at work.
He stood directly in the opposite room listening in to Kate and her mother talking. He doesn't care how wrong it is he just needs to know if they're all right.
"No I...give me." He heard Johanna say.
"Well maybe...than I...and...more often."
He can only make out certain words but overall he thinks he understands what's going on. Johanna just wants forgiveness and Kate keeps placing blame. Clearly she isn't ready to forgive her mother yet.
"No I'm waiting for Rick! That's the only reason why I'm here."
"Okay...sorry," Johanna said sounding defeated. That's when Kate walked around the corner and bumped into him.
"Hey," he said still thinking about what happened the last time they seen each other.
"Hi." She didn't back away. "Are you okay? Is there something I can get you?"
"No no I'm fine. I was just worried I wouldn't find you here," he said through a smile.
"Of course I'm here. But now I'd really like to go. I've had enough of my mother for today."
"Yeah yeah. I can take you anywhere you need to go." He needs her to know that he'll do and be anything she needs. And right now she needs him to take her somewhere she's comfortable.
"Anywhere but here would be perfect."
They walked out the house together in silence. It wasn't until Kate climbed into the passengers seat that she spoke up.
"Should you be driving?"
Castle sighed. "I am perfectly capable of driving my car. Everyone is so worried. Need I remind you I didn't cause the crash."
"I am worried about you. It could've been you in that hospital," she murmured softly.
He turned to face her and the look she had in her eyes was pure concern for his well being. She was genuinely scared for his life and he wishes he could comfort her, let her know that he isn't going anywhere. He'll be here as long as she needs.
"I'm okay. If I'm not I'll let you know. Promise." He took a chance and grabbed her hand for reassurance and she laced their fingers together.
Best day ever. Minus the woman in the hospital.
She asked Rick to drop her off at her "hotel" and she went in again acting like she really had a room there. Maybe in a few weeks when she gets paid but not now. She only has enough for a few days here if she were to stay.
She waits a few moments before leaving the hotel and began her walk back to her place. Unaware of the pickup truck following her.
