Chapter 23: Awake

(A/N: Hey guyz~! So I got my friend to read this story! He said he was terrified! Scarred for life even! XD I love terrifying my friends~ So anyways~ I'm grounded. Two F's on a report card apparently takes phone and internet away for a week... But hey! I could at least make a new chapter and listen to music {Officially the only use for my phone other than texting}. So as usual, I have no plans for this chapter other than Allen being awake and maybe explaining how long he was awake. Hopefully it won't be shit {even though I know it will be}! On to the crap! {Man I miss saying that} )

Last chapter:

The gold ball hit Allen's face one more time. Everyone in the room had wide eyes when they saw what had happened. It wasn't the fact that the Golden Snitch look alike was smacking Allen that shocked them. It was the fact that Allen had sat up and used his new left arm to smack the golden ball back.

"I said stop hitting me..!" Allen said with a harsh voice.

"Allen!" the five brothers and two Noah shouted as they ran to their awakened brother and friend.

Allen looked in the direction of all the voices and saw his brothers and Tyki running to him but only for a split second. All of a sudden he felt someone hugging him and saw nothing but dark purple and the edge of a light above him.

"I'm so happy you're alright..." a soft, gently, and watery voice whispered into his ear immediately followed by, what felt like, tear drops landing on Allen's shoulder.

"Road..?" Allen questioned quietly before the small Noah showed her face to Allen, revealing her sad and worried, yet happy, smile. "I missed you..."

"I missed you too... Allen what happened to you..? Last I saw you you were stabbed through the stomach by the grumpy samurai and bleeding badly. Then I see you unconscious in the Black Order's Infirmary with a missing arm. After that there's every alter ego you've ever had separated from you. What did you do while I was gone?" Road questioned with worry lacing almost every word.

"It's a long story... I'll tell you later after you calm down a bit... You'll murder me and many others otherwise..." Allen muttered the last part to himself.

Road pouted. "Fine."

"So how does the new arm feel?" Maylu asked stepping forward.

"What new arm?" Allen asked.

"Quit joking, man. How does your left arm feel?" Jack asked.

"It's fine. No pain at all. Why?" Allen asked, still not knowing the arm was a false copy.

"Allen! Watch out!" Jerediah shouted as he came up with an idea and pointed to Allen's left.

Allen raised his left arm as an attempt to block whatever Jerediah was screaming about. But it didn't feel right... Allen looked at his left arm and his eyes widened.

"Y-you really did it... You really cut it off..." Allen said with shock as he continued to stare at the prosthetic.

"You really couldn't tell?" Dante asked. "Road even said she saw you missing an arm."

"I thought she was just messing with me... It feels like my real arm... How did you even do this..?" Allen asked as he looked at his brothers.

"The Science Department here made the arm and I did the finishing touch ups and connected it. Do you mind moving it a bit? I want to see how well it cooperates with a mind like yours." Maylu said.

"What? I'm a guinea pig now? Thanks May. I thought I was only 'loved' by Jack and Jerediah." Allen said as he rolled his eyes.

"He's fine." Jack said almost annoyed.

"Aw~ What's wrong Jacky? Not feeling well~?" Allen teased.

"Dumb ass! You almost died on multiple occasions in this past month and now you're joking and acting like it never happened!? THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU!?" Jack shouted. He was furious, annoyed, shocked, and above all, worried for his brothers well being.

"Jack... You shouldn't yell at him like that... Allen was just-" Allen lifted his hand causing Dante to stop talking.

Allen turned to Jack and smiled one of his famous masks. "I understand you're upset and worried. If yelling is how you can get it all out then go ahead. Scream, shout, and yell to your hearts content." Allen said calmly, never letting the mask fall.

Jack watched his brother. He just stood there. Staring at Allen. He didn't know what to say. So instead he used actions. Jack walked over to Allen and punched him in the face.

Allen just sat there, perfectly still, and took it without a wince, without a slip of his mask, without showing his horrid pain. He just kept his smile hoping it would calm down his brother some amount.

Another. Jack punched Allen again in the face. Their brothers winced each time they heard Jack punch his twin, but didn't do a single thing. They understood. They knew what Allen wanted. They knew if they tried to stop this then Jack would be even angrier. So they watched. They watched Allen take every blow. Blows to the face, punches to the stomach, kicks to the waist, hits to the chest. Even after almost dying multiple times and taking so many attacks by his brother, Allen's mask never fell. That is... Until Jack hit Allen in a spot that should not have been even touched.

Jack had thrown a full strength punch at Allen's left shoulder.

A scream. A blood curdling scream ran throughout the halls of the Black Order from the Infirmary.

Allen's mask had fallen. And it hadn't just slipped, fell, or even been taken off. It had been completely destroyed.

Allen was shaking in absolute pain. He had fallen over on the bed with his face down. He was holding his left arm loosely and biting his bottom lip hard enough for a few drops of blood to drip out.

"Allen!" Everyone in the room shouted in panic over Allen's muffled screams.

Tyki and Dante had grabbed both off Jack's arms and started dragging him out of the room.

He couldn't believe it. He made a promise. A promise to Allen. Jack was frozen in fear and shock due to what he had just done. His heart hurt more than anything. If you asked him, Jack's heart hurt just as bad as Allen's shoulder.

Without noticing, Jack had spaced out. When he returned to reality he knew where he was. It was the same training room him and his brothers hid in before knowing Allen could be saved from the Innocence that was in his arm.

"Are you a dumb ass!?" Dante shouted, losing his calm persona and cursing for what seemed like the first time. "What the hell is wrong with you!? Why the hell did you actually go all out on him!? You knew he was already half dead and yet you wouldn't stop attacking him! WHY JACK!?"

"I-I didn't mean to... I-I couldn't stop... I knew he was hurt bad. I knew that smile was just a mask! I knew he just wanted us to think of the happy things and not be depressed! I wanted to stop so bad but couldn't! I don't know what's wrong with me!" Jack shouted as he stared at his hands while shaking in fear.

"Jack..." Dante said, shocked.

All of a sudden, Jack stopped shaking and lowered his head, hiding his face. "I broke our promise..." he muttered under his breath.

"What..?" Tyki questioned quietly as he kneeled down next to Jack.

"We made a promise... Shortly after Mana died Allen couldn't focus on anything. I think I was the only one who noticed. When everyone was sleeping, I would hear him cry at night. He liked having someone to love and care for him. He wanted Mana back with all his heart. One night I walked up to him and sat next to him while he was crying. I put my arm around him and gave him a hug. He tried to stop crying but I told him it was okay to cry sometimes and that he should just let it all out... He hugged me back and just cried harder than before.

"That night I promised to protect him. To never let anything harm him. I was trying to be like Mana... Even though I gave him someone to talk to, complain to, joke with, mess around with, and protect... We both knew I wasn't Mana. But I guess it was enough... And now I just threw all that away! Ten years of trust all down the drain! And in less than a month alone I let him get so close to dying! I couldn't even keep a promise! I may as well have just promised to kill him!" Jack shouted through tears he didn't even know were falling.

Jack's froze when he felt someone wrap their right arm around him and gently hug him, whispering, "Don't cry. You'll make me cry again."

Jack looked up enough to see the face of the one trying to comfort him. "Allen..."

Allen smiled slightly. "Our positions really turned over the years haven't they?"

"Allen I'm so sorry..! I'll do anything to make it up to you... I promised to protect you and I could even protect you from myself..." Jack said as he lowered his head again.

Allen stood up and leaned over, holding is hand out in front of Jack's face and smiled a little more. "Come on. You don't look right down there. Where's the famous, brutal, and tough Jack the Ripper?" Allen questioned jokingly.

Jack looked up a little and smirked. "His little brother knows how to weaken him."

Allen chuckled, "Ain't that the truth."

"Some truth's you just gotta hate." Jack chuckled as he stood up next to his brother.

"Here's a truth that's both good and bad." Allen said with a smirk.

"Oh yeah? What would that be?" Jack asked his younger twin.

"I'm hungry." Allen said just before his stomach growled causing both boys to laugh.

"How about we both go get something to eat then?" Jack asked.

"Yes!" Allen celebrated making Jack laugh even more.

"They make up way too fast..." Tyki stated after both boys left the room.

"That's just how they are. They're the most in-sync out of all of us." Dante said with a smile. "They really do act like twins."

(A/N: That's it! Sorry. Felt like being dramatic. A little more back-story between your two favorite murderous twins explaining why they don't fight like the others. Thought some people would like to know about that. So I wanted to make an omake but... I'm out of time... I felt like giving you guys a treat seeing as how none of my favorite Fanfics have been updated for almost a month... I KNOW YOU'RE READING THIS! UPDATE ALREADY! My apologies. Anyway keep reading, reviewing, following, and favoriting. See ya~! c(X )
