Jace's pov:
Jace placed his items at the check out area. Aline was waiting in the car, and he was internally relieved.
No matter how much it helped get his mind off of Clary he still thought she was the most annoying creature ever.
He placed the last of the groceries on the thing before he put his cart up. Once he looked up from putting his cart up he immediately regretted it.
Clary.
He didn't want to see her. He knew he would've. But he didn't realize how much the blow would hurt when he did.
She was three checkout areas away and he couldn't help but notice the look on her face as she rummaged through her wallet.
She wasn't crying anymore and she wasn't frowning. She didn't look sad just normal. And thats what scared him.
To anyone else she looked like another normal shopper. But Jace knew better. She never looked just normal.
And when she looked up hand the cashier the pile of money from her wallet he noticed something. The light from her eyes were gone. The light that was brighter tahn the sun that was always in her eyes was gone.
She grabbed the bag and walked to the exit. Jace walked after her, about eleven feet behind. She couldn't tell he was watching her.
He watched from the door of the exit as she walked, head down, to her car.
Jace wanted to go over and help her or see if she was all right. But he knew she wasn't. After waht she saw of course she wouldn't be okay.
He imagined what it was like. It must be terrible to see him with Aline. Not because she loved him. Because after the accident he was the first one there. He was the one who was there for her and she knew he was gone, but he basically threw that in her face.
He wanted to take it back but he couldn't because she was his first. His first love. This first one he ever cared deeply for. So as much as he wanted to move and help her, the hurt planted him to the ground.
A/N: I'm sorry i haven't updated in awhile ive been so busy. School just keeps getting harder and harder and im having to practice my trombone 24/7 because of a band concert soon but Ill try ro update sometime this week... and sorry for the length.
