I do not own Ouran and never will.
Chapter 25
(Leo's Perspective)
"Luna!" I yell as I run to her room, my tie loose and shoes untied as I pull her door open. She's still in bed, but jolts up when she hears me, her brown hair a tangled mess as her wide blue eyes meet mine with alarm, "What?!" she exclaims.
"I slept in, we're going to be late if you don't hurry!" I tell her before taking off down the steps, hopping my way down as I tie one shoe at a time.
"Careful, Leo!" my dad says as I struggle to stay balanced and feel his hand on my shoulder. I lean on him for support as I finish tying my shoes, looking up at him after and giving him a smile, "Thanks Dad," I say before going to the kitchen and grabbing an apple out of the fruit basket mom has on the kitchen counter.
"Don't leave without me!" Luna yells and I roll my eyes, "Leo, stay and wait for you sister," mom scolds me and I sigh, "Sorry mom," I say in defeat and she shakes her head at me as she walks down the stairs calmly in her white and black stripped sun dress. Her long blonde hair cascading down her back as she makes her way towards me and leans down to smooth out my unruly strawberry blonde hair.
"You should be nicer to her, she loves you, you know," she says and I chuckle, "I know, I know,"
"What have you done to your tie?" dad says as he kneels down in front of me, rolling up the sleeves on his black button up shirt before redoing my tie for me.
"I tried my best," I say as I pout to myself and my mother laughs at me, "Sweetie, if you need help just ask your dad to show you,"
I huff, she doesn't understand, I'm in high school now, I have to be more independent and show that I can take care of myself.
"I want to learn on my own," I say, more to myself than to my parents, and my dad was about to say something, but then my sister screams, "I'm ready!"
Before I could react, I see a blur of light brown hair coming my way down the railing and then weight hitting my chest like a ton of bricks.
I fall to the floor immediately and groan as I feel the wind get knocked out of me, "Luna, please," I say, choking on my words as I continue, "Get off of me,"
Thankfully she does and then holds her hand out to me. I glare up at her, but all she does it smile kindly at me and I sigh as I know that deep down, I could never stay mad at her.
I take her hand and she pulls me up before taking my hand. Although a lot of siblings would be annoyed by this, I just let her do it since everyone knows that she's just my sister. It's not weird when it comes to us and our friends aren't surprised when they see us walking home together like this.
My mother pats my head as my dad rubs my sisters' shoulder, "Have a great day at school," mom says before leaning down to give me and Luna a kiss on the cheek and dad follows in suit.
We wave goodbye to them as we get into the car and drive to Ouran middle school for Luna and Ouran high for me. It's my freshman year, but school has been in session for a little over a month now.
I look out the window to see my school and smile as I think about how I can make my stamp on this school when I graduate. One things for sure, I'll need help from my uncles Hikaru and Kaoru, they always know the best senior pranks to pull.
The car stops after a few minutes and I get out, giving a wave goodbye to my sister as she makes her way towards Ouran Middle School. I tell her to say hi to Sato, My Uncle Karou's son, as I walk in, book bag slung over my shoulder, to the giant pink building to be greeted at the gates by a small blonde with purple eyes.
"Leo-kun!" I hear Renee scream to the top of her lungs and I open my free arm then feel her crash into me. I chuckle to myself as I hug her tight, "It's good to have you back, Renee," I say as she pulls away and smiles up at me. I walk a little bit behind her as she bounces in the school, "I missed you and Hiro in France, I asked you guys to come with me," she complains and I shrug, "I hate to break it to you, but your dad is….hard to deal with,"
She rolls her eyes, "I know, I know…" she pauses as she looks down at her thumbs before asking, "So, how has he been?"
I smile at her reaction, for years Renee has been in love with Hiro, who is my Uncle Mori's son. His full name is Hiroshi Morinozuka, but it's easier to call him Hiro, and almost from the very beginning Hiro has been crushing on her, but neither have confessed their feelings to each other. Fingers crossed for this year to be the one for these star crossed lovers.
"He's good, he misses you," I say and her eyes light up when I say that, "Really?!" she says in ecstatic and I laugh which makes her pout at me, "You know, when you start liking someone, I'm gonna be really mean about it and pick on you whenever you're around her!"
"At least I won't be afraid to tell them how I feel," I dish back and she places her hand over her heart, an imaginary arrow piercing her in the chest. She dramatically falls to the ground, free hand over her eyes, "My heart, Leo, how could you?!"
I roll my eyes as I turn my head and see Hiro walking in through the door. I grin before whistling for a few minutes and when his tall figure gets closer, I dramatically yell, "Oh man! Hiro, it's been so long!"
Renee immediately shoots up and smiles widely, "Hiro! I missed you this summer!" she says before going up and hugging him tightly. They looked good together, she's much shorter than him, but every time that Renee was around, Hiro's face would break out into a kind smile. It was a smile that he only gave to her, and he would return her hugs every time she offered them. She leaned up on her tip toes to ruffle some of his short black hair and he leaned down to give her a kiss on the cheek.
My jaw drops as I watch that and almost feel the need to turn around and give them space. This was…bold on Hiro's part to say the least, and I could tell that it was affecting Renee because the blush was evident on her cheeks.
Hiro shrugs and says, "What? You just got back from France, right? It's natural to greet someone that way,"
I grin at his response, knowing that he just wanted an excuse to kiss her on the cheek.
But, as gullible as her father, Renee smiles and nods at his response before leaning up and giving him one in return. A faint blush ghosts his cheeks and I was about to start a conversation so that the romantic tensions dissipates, but then I hear an unfortunately familiar voice around the corner, "LEO-KUN!"
Renee turns her head and grins at me, "Ugh-oh, looks like your girlfriend is here," she says and I glare at her, "She is NOT my-"
I'm cut off by a red head crashing into me and making me fall to the ground with her on top of me. I groan as I push her off of me and get to my feet, brushing the dust off of me as I say, "Hello, Mimi,"
She jumps to her feet as she smiles up at me, hearts practically in her eyes as she says, "I missed you so much, Leo-kun!"
Just as she was about to reach for me again, I dodged her and say, "Mimi, you've spent almost every weekend with me this summer,"
She pouts, her short red hair cupping her face to make her appear cuter, but it only annoyed me more, "You know, you're so nice to my cousin, Sato, I don't know why you have to be so catty towards me,"
I stifle a chuckle as I say to myself, "Oh, you haven't even seen catty yet,"
If you can't tell, Mimi has had a crush on me since we were kids, but no matter how many times I deny her feelings and flat out shut her down, she never seems to stop. I guess that's the persistent side of my Uncle Hikaru that's coming out of her. She goes to wrap her arms around my neck again, but I side step her attack and end up bumping into someone.
"Oh shit, my bad!" I exclaim as I turn around to see who it was, but see a girl kneeling down to grab her stuff that I knocked out of her hands. I sigh, annoyed that Mimi made me bump into this girl when all she probably wanted to do was go to class.
"Let me help you," I say as I kneel down myself, but she waves me off, "It's fine, you don't need to," she says as she looks up at me and my breath gets caught in my throat.
A pair of bright blue eyes stare back into mine and I watch us both freeze in place. Her blonde hair was a bit longer than Mimi's and curls towards her neck. Her skin is on the pale side, but it makes her eyes stand out more. We don't move for what feels like a century, that there was only me and this girl in the hallway, but that dream was crushed when Mimi leans on my back and says, "Leo-kun! Pay attention to me!"
I blink a few times as I'm brought back to reality and clear my throat as I gather her books and papers. She follows my lead, tucking a lock of her hair behind her ear as she picks up a few books herself. I hand her the remaining textbooks and she gives me a shy smile before taking them to pull close to her chest.
"Thank you so much," she says before giving me a bow, a charm on her phone jingles and I see a small round item hanging from it. I point to it and ask, "What's that charm on your phone?"
She straightens up and glances down at the charm before rolling her eyes as she giggles, "Oh that, my dad is weird about things like dark magic and thinks that this charm will keep evil people away from me, it's called a Beelzenef. As weird as this is probably going to sound, I think it's really cute," she explains and I nod, "It is cute, and it makes sense why your dad would give it to you," I say and she shifts her gaze to me, clearly confused, "Huh? Why does it make sense?"
I smile as I say, "A cute girl like you deserves cute gifts like that charm,"
Her eyes get wide as she looks at me, a blush coating her cheeks and my smile grows wider, pleased that I got a good reaction out of her. Right when I was going to say something, the bell rings and Mimi pulls on my arm, "Come on, Leo-kun! We're going to be late to homeroom!" she exclaims and I nod, "Okay, okay, we'll go," I say as I pull out of her grasp, shrugging my arm a few times to try and get some feeling back in my arm.
I swear, that woman somehow gets a vice grip on me every single time. I give the girl a small wave before saying, "Well, I guess I will see you later, stranger,"
She shifts her weight on her feet a couple of times before she says shyly, "Nikomi, my name is Nikomi,"
I smile kindly at her and say, "I hope to see you soon, Niko-chan,"
Her cheeks get red and she nods, her arms wrapping a little more tightly around her books, "You too, Leo,"
Before I knew it, she was darting off down a hall and I chuckle a bit to myself. What a cute girl, I would love to know more about her. As everyone talks, Renee about her trip to France for the summer, Mimi about how she wants to go to the arcade after school, and Hiro not saying much of anything, I bite my lip in excitement as I think about how much fun this school year is going to be.
