Chapter Twenty-Five: New Plans
*Katniss POV*
I look at myself in the mirror. All I see is a lost girl, dressed in white. All I see is a girl who has no place in the world that everyone controls around her. She does what she is told, but at what cost? More lives? More deaths in a pointless war? More violence only to show nothing will change?
Tris decided the best way to take the Nut without major casualties is by infiltrating it on the inside. We have a major computer virus, created by Beetee, that can overcome their whole system, and we can stage a military presence after that. First, before we can activate the virus, we need to secure the Weapons Vault and the Conference Room.
We entered the facility without problems because we used some Peacekeeper uniforms picked up from the now secure District Eight. Well, except for me. I am currently in the bathroom getting my face camoflaged by Tris since I almost got caught when we passed the checkpoint to enter the facility.
"The horrors of being famous," she says. I swear, she is the biggest smartass I have ever met. As per usual, I punch her in the arm. She just smirks.
"More like infamous," I snort.
Once we're done, we walk down a quiet hallway until we see "Peacekeeper" Boggs.
"So, what's the plan?" I ask.
"Tobias and I are going to secure the Conference Room," Boggs begins. "Lyme and Soldier Hawthorne are going to secure the Weapons Vault. You and Tris will be accompanying Beetee to the server, which is located in the Panem Online Server Room, aka the POS Room."
Tris snorts. "Really, we're just bodyguards? Isn't there anything else we can do to help?"
"No," Boggs says. "There is only six of us and we have three tasks. I am a Commander, so I am comfortable with military procedure. Tobias is phenomenal in many situations, so I believe he will be a perfect fit for this task."
"Well, he was forced into the Hunger Games," she says in semi-agreement.
"We all were!" I retort.
She apparently does not have a reply to that.
"Anyways," Boggs continues. "Also, Lyme and Hawthorne are excellent in emergency situations, which could result after the system is overcome. That way, the soldiers in the Nut won't have the possibility of taking their weapons."
"They're soldiers," I say. "Wouldn't they be armed for the chance of emergency?"
"According to our intel, no," he answers. "A political order went out that only high ranking officers could carry concealed weapons, probably due to fear of an internal uprising. Little do they know that our spies that were already in here are armed. A few officers versus nearly a whole platoon, you tell me how this would end."
I laugh. I still think its odd that Snow doesn't want his own soldiers armed, since most of them are loyalists anyways. Oh well.
"Anyways," he says, looking at Tris. "Can you handle it?"
"We can," I answer for her. She sighs and I give her a mean look. Sometimes you got to go simple, Tris.
How this plan formed was interesting. As I said, it was Tris's idea. Let's just say she had some backlash.
Gale came up with a plan of his own. "We should blow up the sides of the mountain," he said. "Create an avalanche that will trap everybody in there."
Boggs was not a fan of the idea. He argued back, "The ventilation goes into the side of the mountain. There will be too many causalties."
"It's a simple sacrifice, of some life, in order to stop our enemy," Gale replied.
"It's not like we are fighting an alien race," Tris retorted. "We are fighting humans. Some people are probably being held there, against their will." I know she was thinking of our recent imprisonment from Spriggs when she said that. "Some of the people are spies for the rebels."
"If I was a spy, I'd say 'Bring on the explosions!'," Gale shooted back. I know he would, too.
"No," Tris stated. "I have a better idea. This involves the least amount of casualties, and we can still succeed in taking the Nut. We infiltrate it and overrun their computer system." She wants to be calculating, like a true Dauntless.
"How can we overrun their system? And, how can we even get in there?" Gale asked her. "Lyme already said all attempts to enter the facility have ended in disaster."
"Don't we have Eight secured?" she asked him back. "They make clothing. What about Peacekeeper uniforms?"
I answered, "They do make those." I remember meeting Bonnie and Twill from Eight, when they were running from the Capitol.
"Still, what good would saving all those traitors do?" Gale asked.
"The equipment/information in there could be salvaged!" Tris stated. "We can imprison traitors, but we may be able to prevent future attacks from the Capitol and maybe even get information on how they are protecting the city, to give us an upper hand when we invade. There are more positive attributes than negative attributes towards this style of mission. Plus, less casualties. More people to help rebuild after the war is over. Think about it Gale, it is just a smarter and safer alternative to your plan."
She did test into Erudite too, right?
"She's right," Boggs stated. Gale snorted. "But, we will have to run it by Coin before we have the green light to do anything."
"She'll support me, I know it," Gale said. Unless you have a secret pact with her to get what you want, because you're blackmailing her, the President.
Boggs left to call Coin in Thirteen. When he returned, he stated that she liked Gale's idea but Tris's is more realistic because of the current setting of the war.
That's how we got here.
Note: I'm back. Short chapter but I have had writers block for a while and had pre-college preparations to get done, but now all is better and I can finish. Now, my biggest problem with writers block was figuring out what to do about taking the Nut. I haven't personally seen this, but what do you think? Please Review.
