Today My Life Begins
Chapter 25
It's been eight weeks since Jasper and I's getaway and we've both been working nonstop. I was supposed to see Jasper last weekend, but an emergency at the hospital pharmacy had prevented that and with everything going on here in Port Angeles, there's no way for me to get away I'm close to starting production and refuse to leave, even if it's for the weekend and not to mention I'm coming down with something.
"Bella I told you – you're working too hard. You should've came up here last weekend and relaxed and let me take care of you, I could've given you something and you wouldn't be so bad now." Jasper complained over the phone.
"I'm sorry. I'm just too close to actually getting my workers in here to stop now. I'm actually ahead of schedule, which means we'd be able to move up our wedding date." I tried to pacify him.
"Babe, I don't care about that. I just want you healthy. And now I can't come this weekend because you're sick. I can't catch it." He sighed.
"Seriously?" I shouted.
"I'm sorry babe. I can't." he sighed in frustration.
"Great, I'll have to make the trip home to Forks then to my doctor." I sighed.
"I'm sure your dad won't have any complaints." He chuckled. "He lives to dote on you." He pointed out.
"You've got that right." I sighed.
"I'll call you later. Go get some rest. I love you." He told me before disconnecting.
I packed a small bag and headed for Forks.
"Bells!" My dad picked me up and hugged me.
"Hey dad. I'm not feeling very well, I came here to have Carlisle check me out." I sighed.
"Jasper called and gave me a heads up." He chuckled.
"Of course he did." I shook my head.
"Come on, let's put your bags up and then go see Carlisle. He's expecting us." My dad smiled.
"Bella!" Esme was there with Carlisle and gave me hug. "It's so nice to see you, it's been too long." She kissed my cheek. "You look flushed, are you OK?" she asked.
"Yeah, just not feeling well. I'm here to have Carlisle check me out." I sighed. "I'm just a couple weeks from opening my first major production plant, I've been working too much." I shrugged.
"I think he needs to do a pregnancy test dear." She whispered.
"No, no…" I shook my head and tears were streaming down my face. "Not after…"
"Bella just because you had a miscarriage with Storm, doesn't mean it will happen again. Let's go into Carlisle's office and talk for a minute." She nodded to Carlisle and Charlie and they looked at her quizzically, but she shook her head. Once inside she pulled us to the couch "Bella, before I had Edward I had a miscarriage, everything was fine we were five months pregnant and then out of nowhere I started spotting one night and by the time I woke up in the morning I was covered in blood. I called Carlisle who was still in med school and he rushed to the hospital, we'd lost our little girl. I'd caught some kind of infection. They don't know how it happened. Three years later we had Edward." Esme smiled.
"Thank you for sharing. That helps with some of my fears. But what if Jasper doesn't want to be a father again?" I sighed.
"Doesn't he want custody of his daughter?" Esme asked.
"Yes more than anything! That's why he's working so hard. He's trying to show that he's stable and has a solid work history." I smiled.
"Then he'll be delighted that you're having one as well, it'll give him more family to raise." She nodded her head.
"I hope you're right." I laid my head on her shoulder.
Carlisle and my dad walked in then and I wiped my tears.
"You ready to go get some blood work?" Carlisle asked.
"Yes." I nodded with a smile and Esme winked at him.
"Let's all do lunch after this." Esme clapped.
"Sounds good. Bella looks a little thin." My dad replied.
Esme giggled and Carlisle lead me out of the room.
Thirty minutes later I was crying on Carlisle's shoulder in the exam room as he officially told me I was pregnant and did the ultrasound on me.
"Bella, you're about 8 weeks pregnant." Carlisle smiled. "That puts you about the time of your trip, right?" he asked.
"Yes, is that a problem?" I asked.
"No. Just make sure that you cut out the drinking and coffee and start taking the prenatal vitamins." He smiled.
"I never stopped the vitamins, they had the extra calcium and since I don't like milk…" I shrugged.
"Oh, great! So you're taking the calcium supplement and the prenatal already?" he asked.
"Yeah, I just kept taking them. They were the one vitamin I remembered to take, so I just kept taking them instead of messing up my routine." I shrugged.
"OK. Well, you should be good on that end of things then. But you need to get a doctor in Port Angeles and watch your stress, get plenty of rest!" he warned.
"I will, I promise." I smiled, hugging him.
We walked back into his office and told Esme and dad we were ready for lunch.
At the restaurant I told my dad and Esme officially about being pregnant.
My dad came around and gave me a huge hug as did Esme.
I enjoyed my weekend of relaxation with my dad and Carlisle prescribed medicine to help with the nausea and gave me the name of a good doctor to see.
On my back to Port Angeles I dialed the doctor and she said that Carlisle had sent all my charts and she had an appointment set up for Friday morning for me, I thanked her and drove the rest of the way home with a smile on my face.
I stopped by the store to get crackers and ginger ale and a card for Jasper.
I was feeling corny and decided to write on the inside.
ROSES ARE RED
VIOLETS ARE BLUE
I LOVE YOU,
YOU'RE GOING TO BE
A DADDY TO #2!
Like I said, I was feeling corny… I was a baker, not a writer.
All I know was I wanted it to be something to make him smile when he read it.
I was nervous when I first found out, now I couldn't wait to share the news with the man I loved.
AN: Hope you all enjoy this update…
I'm getting a little more used to my schedule…
So hopefully I'll be updating more…
