Chapter 24

Story Start:
Not much followed in the week or so after the pups' birth, with the exception of Kagome and InuYasha's lazy little bundle finally deciding to arrive. While Kiyoshi wanted to go and see her friend and her new pup, both Inu no Taisho and Sesshomaru insisted that she wait a few weeks. Their reasoning was that they wanted to be sure that their pups and InuYasha's pup wouldn't be confused over their parents should they be separated for any reason- Not that Kiyoshi was about to let that happen.
After so much time being isolated while living with her grandfather, she never imagined that she would be a mother so soon. Of course, then came the worry that she would not be a good mother- her children were demons after all. For all the knowledge in her spell books, there wasn't one that granted knowledge of childcare, so she was stuck using her own instincts and thankfully Sesshomaru's and Taisho's as well.
The two of them were so much more in tune with their instincts that she envied them a little.
It was nearly two weeks before Taisho would even allow her to touch her spell book so that she could ensure that she was fully healed from giving birth, and even then he was hesitant.
"Kitten, I don't see why you won't just let Sesshomaru and I tend you." He grumbled as he handed over her original spell book. There was no chance of him giving her the newer one, the one with the darker spells despite the fact that her wounds no longer spread when she used her magic.
"I have to get better soon." She explained "I made a promise to the children that if they kept up the servant's quarters then I would take them out for another day of magic."
He arrowed his eyes at that explanation, showing that it obviously wasn't good enough for him, but he wasn't willing to risk a turn in her emotions. Kiyoshi's hormones were still raging, perhaps even more than when she was pregnant. Poor Sesshomaru had been the one stuck with her while his father left to do a quick survey of the land, and his little mate was a wreck.
Luckily there wasn't much for anger, but then perhaps it was worse that she was depressed and in tears. He couldn't understand why she was crying when she was holding the pups; why she "missed them" even though they were in her arms. Then she was panicked when she found out that Inu no Taisho had left to survey the land, beyond terrified that he wouldn't come back. His constant reassurances and words to comfort her, were quite possibly more than all the words he had ever said to her.
Looking back, it made her laugh. Confident strong, and silent Sesshomaru in a tizzy over his little human mate.
As for Kiyoshi she was mostly confined to her furs, only allowed to get up to walk a little bit here and there. It nearly caused her physical pain to leave her pups curled up on the furs alone, despite that she was still in the same cavern as them, and Sesshomaru or his father were constantly with her.
"Their eyes should open any time now" she commented to Inu no Taisho as she paced. It was Sesshomaru's turn to go out and survey the land this time and Kiyoshi was just as worried. Inu no Taisho nodded as he stroked one of the pups who had started to whimper, beginning to miss it's mother's warm presence.
"Do you think he's alright? He should be back tonight, right? What time of day is it?"
"Kitten" he spoke to her in a firm voice, pulling her attention to him. "He can feel your worry through our bond. The more upset you are the more likely he will be distracted and something could happen."
"And that is supposed to make me feel better?!" she demanded.
For the past year or so, she had been used to having them wrapped around her finger, but not this time. It was in a single look, that Inu no Taisho reminded her why he was her alpha. Not that he would hurt her, but she got the feeling she didn't want to press her luck. Feeling a bit sheepish for being scolded she tried to calm down.
Grabbing her spell book she flipped through the pages until she found a spell for complete healing and cast it. It was a good thing she waited to cast the spell for as long as she did, because as soon as it was done, she definitely felt a little fatigued. At least the soreness between her legs and her aching back and legs weren't hunting anymore.
"That hasn't happened before" Taisho told her from right behind her. She jumped to find him suddenly so close to her.
"What happened?" she asked, her eyes instantly looking to her pups who were still bundled up sleeping on the furs.
Her mate traced one of the scars along her arms. "When you cast the spell, your scars seemed to glow. It was very faint, but I could see it."
She looked at her arms, "Maybe it's just because it's so dark in here"
If he disagreed with her, he didn't argue and just let it drop… verbally at least. Kiyoshi could tell he was still brooding over what he may or may or may not have seen. She even thought about casting another spell but that last one had really taken it out of her, but then again it was probably nightfall for all she knew and it was time to sleep.
She needed to feed the pups before she did make the effort to sleep, or else they would begin to whimper as soon as she drifted off- or so she thought.
"Kitten…" her mate warned her as she moved to wake them. "Let them sleep"
"I was just going to feed them before I went to sleep." She explained but didn't move to wake them.
"Then sleep. I will move them to you should they wake."
"But-" she went to argue and she got another stern look from him. Were it not for how heavy her eyelids already felt she would have probably thrown a fit. "Can I at least hold them?" she asked as she settled down onto her sleeping furs.
"Kitten," Taisho finally sighed as he draped his fur around her. "I'm not trying to be cruel to you, but they have to bond with one another as well as us. They won't do that if you keep them in your arms all the time."
It was then her hormones kicked in and she felt her eyes brimming with tears and she tried to hold them back…
It didn't work.
To her credit, she didn't complain as she curled up on her sleeping furs away from her pups. She knew her tears were irrational and that Inu no Taisho had a valid point, but post pregnancy hormones made the slightest incident cause for tears.
Another stretch mark found? Tears.
Not knowing what time of day it was? Tears.
Forgetting what she had been crying about five minutes ago? More Tears.
Now Kiyoshi was starting to become embarrassed for being such a cry baby, which in turn only made her want to cry even more… if that had been possible. To their credit though, both Sesshomaru and Inu no Taisho had been very understanding, but that still didn't stop her tears.
"I'm sorry" she told him, feeling him move behind her, between her and the little furry pile.
"It's alright, Kitten." He told her, running his claws through her hair as he attempted to soothe her tears. "Nothing will happen to them, I give you my word."
"It's not that" she confessed, "I just…" Kiyoshi struggled to find the words to explain what was going on in her mind. "I'm scared"
He pulled her until her back was pressed back into his hard body, tucking her head under his chin and waited for her to continue.
"I didn't grow up in a regular family with parents or siblings, nieces or nephews, or even cousins. I don't know anything about being a mother and now I have not one, but two children to care for and they aren't even what I'm used to as far as what little I do know about children. Now everything that I thought I knew is… almost irrelevant and I am terrified that I will be a bad mother, that I won't be able to care for them properly, or that I won't even understand them as they grow. And I know it seems silly to say after all that but I think the reason I'm so scared is because I just love them so much."
She felt his chest vibrate and a deep rumble emitted from him in a soft growl. "Hush, Kiyoshi, you will be a wonderful mother for them."
"But what if I mess up?" she fretted.
"Do you think I will be a good father to them?" he asked.
"Of course I do. You already have two sons after all." She answered with no hesitation.
"Yes, but of the two of them Sesshomaru is… Well, Sesshomaru…" she laughed a little at that. Sesshomaru was something else entirely- a cold, emotionless killer to nearly everyone but her and a few others. "And then I never would have known InuYasha were it not for his mother and your ancestor saving my life."
He had a point.
"So what you're saying is that while you're very good at the act of making children, raising them is a different matter." She giggled.
"Am I good at making them?" he chuckled as he kissed the top of her head.
"You are" she yawned as she finally calmed down from her crying fit, pulling one of them up to cover her from the coolness of the den's air. "Maybe you can remind me after my nap. You know, to make sure I'm healed up nicely down there."
He ran his hand up and down her waist. "I look forward to it, Kitten"
"To what? Me taking a nap or sex?" she asked with a smile as she drifted off to sleep.
"Both, Kitten. Both"
Sesshomaru was relieved when he finally felt Kiyoshi settle. He had never understood why humans were so easily distracted when it came to their emotions, but now, thanks to his human mate, he was a little more understanding. While it was true that hers were all over the place as of late that made things even more distracting, which resulted in one of the cats he was fighting to break through a portion of his armor.
Now that he had finally managed to lower the number of his opponents to where they couldn't surround him, it was the perfect time to use Bakusaiga and finish them at once. With a few final cries, his enemies were vanquished leaving the far edge of their boarders secure.
It seemed that not many of the cats were brave enough to venture into their lands after their previous defeat, only small groups of them at a time curiously enough. It didn't make sense and that left Sesshomaru suspicious, but not enough to leave his lands unprotected- not to mention Kiyoshi and his son.
The thought of his son filled him with pride. Not only was the first of his offspring male, but he was able to take on a demon form, despite his mother being human, powerful though she was in her own right. His chest swelled even more with pride at the thought of his little mate. He had been unsure how she would react to tending to pups as opposed to an infant that appeared to be somewhat human, but she did not disappoint him or his father. She nursed the pups at her breasts as if it were the most natural thing to her.
He could also tell she was becoming more and more restless. While they tried to keep most of the concerns about attacks from her, he and his father refused to lie to her should she inquire, but as of yet, there had been no need for worry about any of the attacks being too close to the castle. Sesshomaru didn't know what Kiyoshi's ancestor had meant by there being another enemy, but it would be a cold day in hell before he allowed anyone or anything to take his mate or pup from him.
Kiyoshi knew she was dreaming, and yet she knew she was having a vision at the same time. She couldn't see where she was due to it being dark and foggy all around her, but she could see an open screen door on the house that stood before her and eerily familiar voices speaking inside.
"Rumor has it that your son and his father have impregnated the little human" one voice, male Kiyoshi could tell, chuckled.
"So I have heard" a voice replied and she knew it instantly to belong to Sesshomaru's mother.
"What are you going to do about it?" the first voice questioned her and a long silence followed.
"I admit, I may have underestimated her, but I will kill the little witch and her half-breed spawn once I figure out what she is." She growled.
"You don't think she's simply a human witch?"
Another pause.
Kiyoshi moved closer to listen to what was said next. "She's too strong to simply be human, and too weak physically to be a demon or a divine being. However, there is something familiar about her. I just can't place how."
"Kill her and the pups and Sesshomaru and Inu no Taisho will begin fighting amongst each other. Each one will blame the other for her death."
Kiyoshi shivered in fear and trembled in anger at the same time. She'd be damned if she let that demon bitch lay a claw on her pups! She was going to kill the she demon the next chance she got, no matter what her mates said.
"How do you expect to get to her?" the male voice questioned. "I've heard they have already moved her to den"
The conniving she demon chuckled. "I know another way into the den, but I will need you to draw out my son and his father first. It's time for you to finally get your hands dirty."
"So it seems." The voice agreed "How much longer until she births the half breeds?"
"They say human's take at least 9-10 moon cycles. If rumors are true, she has at least 3 more to go." The she demon answered and with that Kiyoshi felt the vision fading as her dream was ending.
She woke to one of the pups rooting at her breast for his meal. Doing her best to forget the worry of her dream, Kiyoshi smiled down at her pups. Inu no Taisho must have moved them to her once she fell asleep probably to keep them from getting too cold. "You slept for quite a while this time, Kitten." He chuckled from behind her where he still held her. "I was concerned that you may have used your spell too soon."
"I don't think so." She yawned, stretching her stiff body. "I feel much better after that nap"
As she went to disrobe to feed her pups, Inu no Taisho instructed her to wait and rearranged her, the furs and the pups until she was on her back and slightly propped up and the pups were level with her waist on her left. "Now then," he said as he settled down to her right "They have been spoiled long enough. They will have to find their meal." With that he reached down and untied the knot to her sleeping yukata and opened it, exposing her bare flesh to the coolness of the cavern.
Kiyoshi shivered a little at it, but did as he said and watched the pups and waited. "You think they can?" she asked him as the little furry white bundles whimpered, grunted, and shook as they attempted to scoot around with their wobbly little legs to her.
"I do" he chuckled as Sesshomaru's pup turned the wrong way and began whimpering louder once he realized he was getting further away from his mother's body heat and consequently his meal. It didn't take long for his brother to reach him and set him in the right direction. A few minutes later they had both managed to clamber up her body and latch on to eat after getting a growl from their father when they started fighting over the same breast.
She couldn't resist stroking their furry little bodies as they nursed. "Have you or Sesshomaru thought anymore on what their names should be?" she asked caressing the little crescent moon on her youngest pups head.
"We thought we would let you name them, Kitten" he told her as he also stroked the pups, his offspring letting out the tiniest growl as he did. Inu no Taisho growled back at the pup who quieted down after its scolding and went back to nursing. "What was that all about?" she giggled.
"He thought I was going to take his mother and his meal away." He chuckled, stroking his grumpy pup again. "Which I will do if I please."
She smacked his arm away and gave him a hard look. "You will not" and she wrapped her arms over the nursing pups. "You big bully"
He laughed at that before leaning down to kiss her forehead. "Very well, my fierce little kitten." And allowed the pups to finish their meal, this time giving their mother a few minutes to cuddle with them, lavishing them with affection and attention that his spoiled pups ate up like they had their meal. Once satisfied they curled up in a little furry pile and went back to sleep.
"They sure do sleep a lot." Kiyoshi noted as she gazed at them affectionately before she stood up from the furs and stretched. Her nap had worked wonders for her, it seemed as she finally got her first full and fulfilling sleep in weeks. No more kicking and stretching from the inside, no more pain and soreness on the outside, minus the fullness of her breasts when it came time to feed the pups. All in all, she felt like a new woman… a new frisky woman. She eyed her family's precious heirloom with a devious gaze where he sat and sauntered over to him.
