That week they took her mother's body to Ohio. They laid her mother to rest next to her father. That night after the funeral she sat in her mother's home going through old photos sitting on the floor by her bed. Hunter stood in the doorway watching as she fumbled through trying to organize things. She knew he was watching but, couldn't bring her eyes to come up to meet his.
"You know. She wanted me to marry you. She always knew I loved you. I don't know how. One day we were watching RAW and you came on in a segment with Shawn and Kevin. I was trying not to cry. I always hated seeing you in feuds with Shawn. Even though I knew it was scripted. I just hated seeing you two fight. She told me she knew for a long time that I was in love with you. I wouldn't admit it. But, I don't know how she knew. Until now. She loved my dad. She knew love when she saw it and she was right all along."
He sat on the floor next to her picking up the photo from her hand that she was looking at. A photo of her mother and father when they were married. "I know what you mean. First time I talked to her after I found out she was sick, she saw right through me. She knew I was really calling cause I was falling for you. She asked me that night if I was in love with you. I told her no. That I was calling to check on her and to know more about you for my girl's sake. She didn't believe a word of it. She was special. I see a lot of her in you. You're a fighter and so was she. Sam, honey, you can't be with me ringside Sunday. I asked Vince to ban you from being down there."
"What? Why would you do that?" She turned to him saddened.
"Because I know if Brock hurts me you will rush in. I can't let you be hurt. I have been through worse. I can handle it. Brock has an ax to grind with me. But, I do with him too. I need to do this on my own. Knowing your safe is what is going to get me through this match. Steph is coming to the show and will stay with you. She's been there before. I don't want the girls to watch the match either." He pulled her to his side.
"You can't ask me to not watch. We can keep the girls occupied. I need to see your ok. Please. Don't ask me that. Just promise me you'll be okay."
"Promise. After RAW Monday night you and I will take a long needed honeymoon."
"I'd like that." She smiled. "Hunter. I really do care about you. I always have. I know what people say. They think I'm a gold digger. But, I hope you don't ever feel that way. If you walked away from all this tomorrow, I'd still love you."
"Sam, for the first time in my life I found someone that I believe that is true. I know that's not who you are. The only thing that matters is us. Not what people backstage stay, the media, the internet. As long as we have each other that's what matters."
