"No... No! Leave her alone!" Eddie lunged toward the man, reaching out to grab her from his clutches. He kept pulling her further back. "Bring her back! Leave her alone!" The more Eddie fought, the farther she seemed to be drawn back. Her mouth was clamped shut by the elder man's hand, though she was kicking and screaming for Eddie to save her. Eddie started running to them, figuring maybe he could catch up this way. Suddenly, he felt his body slowing down until he eventually couldn't move. He was frozen. "No.. No! Let me go, and put her down!"
No matter how hard he screamed, begged, or pleaded, the man only laughed. Eddie looked up, fear lighting up his eyes. "No!" He screamed as loud as he could, but the man dragged her away, through the ground, and into the underworld.
"Chloe!"
"Eddie, Eddie wake up, wake up!" James was gently shaking him. The blonde sprung up, gasping for air. According to James, Eddie had been thrashing around in his bed, screaming in his sleep. The boy rubbed his face with his hands. His hair and forehead were covered in sweat, as was his shirt. His breath was out of control, and his heart beat was racing, as if his heart were about to burst through his shirt.
"Where's... Chloe.." he gasped. James ran upstairs real quick, careful not to wake anyone up that was unnecessary. He knocked on Chloe and Lily's door, and within a second or two it flung open, and Chloe was standing behind it.
"I heard," she frowns. They both raced back downstairs to Eddie and James' room. Chloe practically flung herself onto Eddie. Normally she wouldn't have, considering he was all sweaty, but right now, she couldn't care less.
"Chloe..." he breathed into her hair, wrapping his arms around her. She was crying; he could feel her tears against his neck. "Why are you crying?"
"I can't help it..." she whispered. "Are you okay?" Chloe rubbed his back gently with her fingernails and ran a hand through his hair, climbing into his lap and hooking her legs around his waist while he held her. She looked into his eyes, trying to calm him down.
"Yeah... Well no, but I am for now. I thought I almost lost you.." he admits to her. She seems confused.
"What happened?" James was listening to the two from his bed.
"It was that Cortez guy. He had you tied up, and..." he almost doesn't finish. "He took you to the underworld. I don't even know how I knew that's where it was, but I just knew." Chloe gasped.
"It's an Osirian thing," James explains.
"And, something was off. I mean, he wasn't himself. It was like he was possessed or something, I don't know." Chloe and James exchanged looks.
"What do you think it means?" Chloe asked.
"I think it means we need to watch out for this guy, especially if his first motive is to invade Anubis," Eddie decided. His breathing finally decreased to normal.
"We'll talk about it in the morning," Chloe followed up, getting up to leave.
"Wait," Eddie called, grabbing her arm. "Will you stay? I'm afraid it'll come back," he explains, referring to the nightmare. Chloe was secretly hoping he would ask.
"You're lucky I don't have the baby tonight," she teased, climbing into the bed with him. It was a bit small, but with Chloe snuggled up against Eddie anyways, they both fit comfortably. James smiled at them.
"Good night," he bid them, them returning the gesture.
"Good night," Eddie spoke into Chloe's ear, which she repeated. Eddie was already falling back asleep. "I love you..." His words were mumbled and almost lost in transition, barely loud enough for Chloe to hear, yet it still made her blush, her hands layering Eddie's that are wrapped around her on her stomach.
When the morning came around, Chloe shifted while waking up, causing Eddie to wake up. He yawned sleepily, kissing Chloe's ear. "Good morning," he smirked. Chloe sighed happily.
"Morning." Suddenly she realized that she was in bed with Eddie, but she hadn't remembered that she had taken her makeup off last night. Eddie has never seen her without her makeup, and there was a reason she hasn't let him. Last night it was dark, the lights weren't on, and he couldn't see her really. Now it was bright, or at least brighter, and he could see her. "Ah!" she squealed, rolling over so her face was buried in the sheets. Eddie frowned.
"What is it? What's wrong?" He tried to roll her over, but to no avail. She mumbled something into the pillow that just made Eddie chuckle. "I can't understand you."
"I said," she rolls just enough to the side so that her mouth is exposed, covering her eyes and nose with a pillow. "I don't have my makeup done today." Eddie just burst into laughter and ran a hand through his hair.
"You honestly believe that I would care?" he asks her.
"I would," she defends. Eddie pouted, dragging her closer to him.
"Well it's too late now. You're not getting rid of me anytime soon, so it's only a matter of time until I see you without it on. Besides, I saw you in that picture with Lily," he reminds her.
"That's different. I didn't just wake up and I look better in photos," the girl groaned.
"Come on, please?" Chloe finally gave in to his pleas after a few minutes.
"Fine," she grumbled as she sat up, brushing away her unruly hair. Eddie was actually surprised. "I know; I look hideous." He shook his head.
"No, you don't. You look beautiful, with or without it. Only now you actually look human," he joked. She playfully swatted his arm, laughing. "And I'm not just saying that because your my girlfriend," he added. Chloe smiled sweetly. Did he remember what he said last night? That he loved her? It was such a strange time to say it, Chloe thought. Should she bring it up? No, what if he doesn't remember saying it? Deciding not to risk freaking him out, Chloe dropped it.
"Lily tells me the same thing, but I usually roll my eyes," Chloe confesses with a small chuckle. "I'm too tired to walk to breakfast..." Eddie got up out of bed, scooping her up into his arms unexpectedly. "Ah!" she squealed as he held her and carried her out into the kitchen. She giggles as he carries her out, ignoring the stares from everyone else who were all pretty much out there already.
"Morning," Scarlett strolls past them, smirking. Chloe had to roll her eyes not to blush.
"Gasp, is it true? The great beauty guru isn't wearing her makeup today?" Isaac overreacted. Chloe stuck her tongue out at him, making some of the others laugh.
"Hey Eddie, is this afternoon okay to set up a playdate for Smith? I've been working out details with Scarlett."
"Yeah, we were wondering if that would be okay," Eddie's sister repeated.
"Yeah sure, sounds cool," he smiled. Chloe took a bite of her food before remembering.
"Mm, Tree!" she called, mid swallow. "I think this afternoon would be a good family bonding time. Are you free?" Tree actually looked sort of surprised.
"Yeah, sure. Yeah I'm free, that sounds fun." Chloe smiled and clapped her hands in excitement as the others ate. This baby project was a lot of work, especially considering they have their family trees to do as well. It was all just... overwhelming.
Another day of classes came an went, then sat Chloe and Tree in the living room with their daughter Paige. Chloe was feeding her while Tree was reading her a story. When the story finished, Chloe smiled.
"That was a cute story," she told him. He beamed with pride.
"Thanks, it was my favorite when i was little." The two shared a laugh, Chloe passing the baby to Tree to burp her. "So, you and Eddie?" he teased. Everyone knew Chloe slept in the same bed with him last night.
"Nothing happened, my gosh," Chloe flushed. "There's something more likely to happen with... Never mind," she stopped. "Can I ask you a hypothetical question?" Tree nodded. "Say two people were friends, and then one day, they figured out that the get electrocuted when their hands touch. Palms, sorry, when the palms of their hands touch. What would that mean? Hypothetically." Tree thought for a minute.
"Well, I'm no hypothetical guru, but it sounds to me like these two people might have a connection." Chloe tips her head to the side.
"Connection?" Tree goes into further detail for her.
"Yeah, like a spiritual connection, emotional connection, physical.. you know?" She nods in understanding. "It sounds like this is a physical connection, but it could be deeper than that. Hypothetically, what else happens in this situation?" Chloe shrugs.
"I don't know.. Well, say one of them was.. special," she phrases. "And they could see things that other people couldn't, but the needed someone else, -their other half- in order to fully see... If that makes sense. Like, it's a gift, and the gift is made stronger when both halves are there." Tree nods, remaining silent.
"Have these two hypothetical characters ever considered that they are each others halves?" Tree asked. Of course! Chloe's face lit up, but she had to play it cool when Tree looked at her.
"I'm not sure. I don't even think the second one knows that they have the gift," she informs.
"Then I would advise them to test the theory," he suggests. "It sounds like a physical spiritual connection now, so they would have to learn to channel the energy being released through the electrical shock, redirect it, and use it for something else." Chloe smiles, knowing she has just made a big break through.
"Any ideas on how exactly to do that?" Tree laughs.
"I'm starting to think this isn't exactly hypothetical anymore."
"No, of course it is!" she lies.
"Well, it would really depend on them; they would have to figure it out based on a lot of things. I'm afraid that's as far as I can get you."
"That's perfect, thank you for your help!" She hugs him to say thanks, and takes Paige from him. "Come on," she smiles. "To the land of Milk and Trudy's homemade cookies!" Tree laughed, following behind the blonde.
In the hall, Isaac waited for his younger sister to come downstairs, as they were both going to Isis house today to meet with their partners for the baby project. She was taking forever, the blonde starting to get impatient. "Hurry up or I'm leaving without you!" Sophia scurried down the stairs in her winter jacket and smiled. "Finally. Come on, let's go." The short walk to Isis is filled with chit-chat between brother and sister, talking about mainly Lily and James, since they both Isaac and Sophia were dating the siblings. "And Lily does this thing where she taps her nose when she can't think of something," Isaac tells.
"James does that too! Especially when he's writing," she giggles. She meant writing music, but chose not to add that part. No reason really. Isaac laughed along with her, looking over at her and smiling. "What?" she asked curiously, thrown off by him smiling at her. "Do I have something in my teeth or something?"
"No," he replied with a chuckle. "I just kinda missed hanging out with you." Sophia felt his forehead.
"No fever... Maybe something else is wrong. You must be sick, because the Isaac I know would never confess that." He rolled his eyes at her.
"Ha-ha," he mocked. "I was serious. I feel like I never see you anymore. I know obviously I do see you and it sounds alien of me to say something like that, but it's true. Even though you can be annoying," he dragged out the word, "you're still my sister, and I love you."
"Okay, something's seriously wrong," she teased. "Only kidding. Aww, that's actually sweet. I love you too." Sophia hugged him as they approached the front steps of Isis. Knocking, it only took a moment or so for Melody to answer the door with a smile.
"Hey! Come on in." The siblings stepped inside, de-coating themselves and adjusting to the warm interior. "Ben's in the shower, Sophia, but I told him you guys were coming at this time, so you can wait for him in his room if you want. He should be out shortly." Sophia nodded, smiling.
"Thanks, Melody." She dismissed herself and headed to Ben's room. No one else was in there, so she proceeded in. Looking around, she noticed that Ben had a lot more art work around his side of the room than he did when he brought her to that Isis house party. The brunette took it upon herself to look around at them. They all had a sort of similarity behind them that she couldn't quite put her finger on. As she was observing one of them, lost in admiration, she didn't notice someone else come in the room until the door creaked. Sophia jumped, spinning around.
"Ben, what are you doing here?" she asked. That's when she remembered; Melody had said he was in the shower before. Ben stood before her in only his jeans, his boxers rising above the hem of them just a tad. His light brown hair was darkened from the shower, his beautiful blue-green eyes seemed to be glistening. He wasn't wearing a shirt, but to be honest she was lucky he was even half clothed. That would have been awkward on a new level. She tilted her head to the side unknowingly, admiring his chest and abdomen. She hadn't noticed how long his torso was before, or how incredible he looked after a shower. Though, she wouldn't have known that anyways. His laughter breaks her trans.
"Um, I live here?" he says playfully. "Remember, you're in my room." Ben walks further into the room, going over to his closet and grabbing a t-shirt, pulling it over his head. Sophia frowned, but smiled when Ben faced her once more. "Bri is over there, if you want to get her while I put socks on," he lets her know. Sophia nods, grabbing the baby and sitting on Ben's bed, joining him. "So, what were you doing before I came in? You jumped like you just got caught committing a crime." Sophia knew he was only kidding, but she couldn't help how forced her laugh sounded.
"Um, I was looking at some of your paintings," the confession rolls off of her lips like a sin, her guilty conscious threatening to take over. She still had no idea if she had feelings for Ben, and she hated herself for leading him on before.
"Well, that's understandable, but I'm sorry Ma'am, we'll have to take you in." Ben stood, picking Sophia up and throwing her over his shoulder.
"Ah!" she screamed at first, but couldn't control the laughter that came out. Ben spun her around once or twice before putting her back on her feet. They both laughed, smiling at one another. Ben was strong... the way he flung her over his shoulder like she was weightless, but was so careful and delicate with her at the same time. "Don't scare me like that," she told him.
"Sorry," he smirked. She swatted him on the arm, unsuccessfully hiding a smirk. Maybe she did have feelings for Ben, but her feelings for James were stronger.
At Anubis, Chloe and Tree had just finished family bonding, and now it was time to get some work done; and for Chloe, that meant Sibuna work. "Guys!" she called to the others when Alfina wasn't in the room. Their play date was over, and now it was Sibuna time. "You'll never guess what I found out from Tree," she squeals as she spills everything.
"Oh my god... So, you think I have this power too?" Scarlett asks. Chloe nods.
"That does seem to explain the electricity," James agrees. "Now we just have to figure out how to control and channel it."
"First, I want to know if Scarlett actually can see behind the door," Chloe interrupted. "Come on, we'll go down to the basement." Sibuna crept down to the basement and over to where the door was. Scarlett knelt before it, having a look. "What do you see?"
"I see... Nothing, yet," Scarlett frowns. "Wait.. I see... People!" The others are taken aback. "There are people in there! And I don't think they're human..." James went to look, but all he saw was what he had seen before.
"I can't see it, just the jewels." Eddie looked back and forth between the two.
"You can't see the people, and Scarlett can't see the riches... Maybe you two are each others halves. Show me what happens when you touch again?" Scarlett and James braced themselves for the nasty shock they faced.
"Ah!" They both winced in pain. "How are we supposed to channel anything when we can barely touch?" Scarlett scowled.
"I don't know... Let me sleep on it; think about it as the Osirian," the blonde male instructed. "In the meantime, anyone know how we're going to get this door opened?" A sudden light bulb went off in Chloe's head.
"Actually, I think I might know where to start. My mom sent me a text this morning. She said that the crown was special, and it could "open doors for us"," she explained. The faces on the others lit up.
"Well where is it?" Eddie exclaimed.
"Luckily, I brought it with me." Chloe pulled the crown out from a bag she had brought down, showing them. They encouraged her to put it on. Taking a deep breath, Chloe brought the crown up and placed it on her head. Taking her hands away slowly, she half expected something to happen. When nothing did, she frowned. Eddie furrowed his eyebrows, and suddenly noticed.
"Hang on," he said, taking Chloe's Eye of Horus locket from her chest, and snapping it off of the chain. Chloe gasped, eyes widening. He gave her a "do you trust me?" look, and she nodded. He then took the charm, and pressed it into place on the tiara. Suddenly the shiny headpiece began to glow, Chloe's hair appearing golden. She felt a flow of energy running through her veins. Smiling widely, she motioned for her friends to stand aside. After doing so, she faced her palm to the tiny door, and a beam of light shone from it, hitting the door, and unlocking it. "That's my girl," Eddie beamed.
"Way to go!" Scarlett cheered. "But, it's still to small," she reminded them.
"That's something we'll have to do," James announced. "I can feel it. We were meant to go inside, because no one else is supposed to know about it, remember? We'll have to figure out these powers first, of course."
"Well, look inside now, what do you see?" Chloe asked, the light fading. Scarlett looked first.
"Still people."
"Still riches."
"Well, that's step one complete; now what?" Chloe asked, removing her tiara.
"Now," Eddie answered. "We do more research. For me, starting with Cortez." Chloe rested a hand on his shoulder to calm his nerves.
"Scarlett and I will figure out this channeling energy stuff, I hope," James says.
"Maybe we could get Tree to help?" Scarlett suggests.
"Yeah! You guys should talk to him. He seems to know a lot about this stuff, especially considering what he told me."
"Well we better get out of here," the Osirian stated. They all agreed, returning to the main floor. Chloe found Tree and asked him to elaborate on their topic of discussion from earlier to Scarlett and James. He seemed happy to. Though, when Chloe left, the truth came out.
"Okay, I'll help you guys, but tell me honestly; this isn't hypothetical, is it?" The others exchanged a look before sighing.
"Not exactly..." Tree smirked.
"I knew it. Give me your hands, both of you, one in each," he instructed, holding his out. As soon as their hands touched his, Tree's eyes closed as he began to meditate, looking for the energy running through them. After a moment, he took in a sharp breath of air, opening his eyes. "Okay, I think I know what you two need to do. You have amazing energy, but it doesn't like to be handled the wrong way. You need to find a way to connect your energy, and become one with each other."
"Okay," James nodded. Scarlett was still slightly confused, but she went along with it.
"You want to be able to visualize it before you make contact, know where it's going and the flow that it runs to. I could feel the energy, see where it was going; it was headed straight to your minds, and that's all I can tell you. The rest you have to figure out on your own," he told them.
"Wait, Tree, how did you learn to do this?" Scarlett asked. Tree laughed.
"My mother taught me. She had a gift," he answers. "See you guys later, and call me if you need anymore help." The trio said their farewells, leaving the brunette and redhead to ponder. James opened his mouth to say something but stopped.
"What? Tell me," the red-haired girl spoke intimidatingly.
"I just... I wanna try something," he confessed. "Do you trust me?" Scarlett did, in a heartbeat. "Okay, stay still, and don't move." Scarlett played statue while James leaned closer to her, almost as if they were about to kiss. She trusted James, but there was a small part of her screaming to back away. The more loyal, trusting, dominant part of her however, told it to take a hike. She remained still as James pushed his forehead against hers, their noses touching, and the energy shot through them, not shocking them this time. From a distance, it looked like they were kissing, and that's exactly what Alfina thought she had seen; her jaw dropped open, eyes seemingly wider than the span of an eagle's wings. She had to tell Sophia and Oscar; she had to.
