Chapter 25
Katniss goes into the room and sees her mom tossing and turning. The blanket is twisted around her and she is trying desperately to get free. "Maximus help me" she cries in her sleep. "No please don't hurt my baby girl" she says tears falling down her face. Katniss goes over to her and takes her into her arms.
"Momma wake up, I want to see your beautiful blue eyes.
"Katniss says in a whisper as she begins to rub her mom's back. Five-minutes later Sarah finally opens her eyes as tears fall. She looks around the room her eyes darting around the room. Going from the door to the windows and then stopping at on Katniss who smiles at her. Her eyes go wide.
"Katniss?" she whispers.
"I'm here momma, its ok your safe. Go back to sleep" Katniss says as she strokes her mom's blonde hair. Sarah is shaking as Katniss holds her.
"Katniss, could we stay up and talk for a bit and then go to sleep?" Sarah asks.
"Oh of course, Momma" Katniss say as she and her mom sit up.
"What do you want to talk about momma?"Katniss asks as she curls into her mom.
"I want to know everything that's happened to you after I supposedly died" Sarah says.
"Well daddy and I moved to Redding Montana and"Katniss stop as Sarah puts her hand up .
"I think you can speed up darling,"Sarah says smiling.
"Ok momma, well two months ago I was hunting in the woods and met up with Peeta and we've been together ever since, then we performed a toasting a month later and now we are married" Katniss says as she holds up her ring to show Sarah.
"Beautiful" Sarah whispers as she pulls out a silver ring from her nightstand. Its the identical ring that Katniss found with the note in the burned up store.
"Momma is that your wedding ring?" Katniss asks looking at the ring in her mothers hand.
"That it is. My darling" Sarah says. "You're father should have the identical one."by the way how is your dad?" she asks looking at Katniss.
"He was fine until Cranes men came and took him away" Katniss says.
"You're kidding"Sarah says
"What happened to you momma?' Katniss asks as she curls up next to her mom.
"My father Seneca,Your grandfather had me fake my death so he could take me away." Sarah says as she begins to stroke her daughters face. "I did everything I could to get back to you, but then Seneca had me guarded with bodyguards. I tried to escape several times but I was always found and taken back. Then last week he left for a business leaving me alone taking my guard with with him. I was able to escape, I've been living in the woods using the information you dad taught me the years before I 'died'" Sarah says look at her daughter.
"Momma, Haymitch said something about dad being arranged to married to someone else but then he found you, can you tell me about that? Katniss asks. Sarah considers this and is silent for a bit Katniss worries she upset her mother.
"Its okay if you don't want to talk about it I was just wondering" Katniss says.
"Oh it's okay darling, I don't mind." Sarah says. Katniss puts her head in her moms lap as Sarah starts to tell her story.
"I first met your dad when we were in school during our senior year. He was in my English class and we became fast friends. He would often partner with me when the teacher would assign us class work"Sarah says as she sees her daughter smile.
"That is so romantic momma" Katniss says,.
"Then when we were graduating I noticed him hanging out with another women. She was one off my dads business partners daughter.
"I cant remember her name but she look like the biggest dimwit in panem. Katniss raises her head
"it couldn't possibly be" Katniss says. "What was her name momma?" Katniss asks practically begging Sarah to remember.
"Effie Trinket" Sarah says after five-minutes of thinking.
"You're kidding"
"No darling i'm not" Sarah says looking at her daughter. "How do you know her? She adds
"She owns the local bar in redding and dad was dating her" Katniss mumbles
"What did you say darling?" Sarah asks
"I said I know Effie trinket" Katniss says as she starts to yawn. Sarah smiles and holds her daughter close to her.
"I am so happy I'm with you mama" Katniss says but it comes out in a whisper.
"Me too Darling me too" Sarah says as she and her daughter both yawn. "Come on darling lets to sleep and I promise I'll be here when you wake up" Sarah says.
"Ok, Momma" Katniss says snuggling into her mom. "I love you momma" she says
"Love you too darling" Fifteen-minutes later Sarah Everdeen and Katniss Mellark, are snuggled into each other. Sarah has her arms around her daughter and Katniss has her head on her moms shoulder, both are feeling safe and content.
