Dylan Marvil
When potion class was over on Friday Dylan headed straight for the library. The library was always pretty much empty on Fridays so Dylan knew she could do her research without being disturbed. She didn't tell Josh about the book from Hermione. She didn't want to unless she actually found something worth anything which none of the books she has read have had anything worth anything. Some of the legends were outlandish, like something you would read about in the Quibbler and there were a few legends that came up that she already knew about like Harry Potter's twin still being alive. She has heard that particular one many times, but her mother assures her that there is no way that his twin survived. Dylan actually feels bad for Harry. She knows what it is like to feel like something is missing from her life and the fact that he had a twin that was ripped away from him must be tough. To make matters worse nobody seems to even know her name. She is just referred to as "Harry Potter's twin" or "daughter of James and Lilly Potter". It is like she never even existed.
Dylan started to flip through the book. The first chapter was legends about vampires. The next was about ghosts and poltergeists. As Dylan went through it she noticed that all these legends were about supernatural beings. They had nothing to do with her. Dylan sighed. This book was just about as useless as the next one.
Dylan started to aimlessly flip through it and was about to give up when she saw a chapter that stuck out to her.
Chapter 13
Legends of the Dark Lord
Dylan noticed a crease on the top corner of this page which means that Hermione marked it at some point. What does she care about the Dark Lord? She is a muggle born for heaven's sake. What did she know about dark magic? Dylan didn't know they annoyingly know-it-all girl, but she did not take her to be the type to be into dark magic. Though her mother always did say that muggle borns could not be trusted. Even though Dylan had more important things to worry about, like the part of her history that put her into Gryffindor instead of Slytherin with her sisters, but she had to admit that she was a little curious.
The legends started with the theory that the Dark Lord was a half-blood and there was a theory that he wanted to be a Defense Against the Dark Art's Teacher growing up. She had heard these rumors before so it was nothing new. It was the third legend that was circled in black ink and surrounded by question marks that made Dylan curious.
"The Dark Lord was never known to have a special person in his life. There is nobody, male or female, that is on record to have had any sort of romantic relationship with him, but some say that there is more to the story.
It is true that the Dark Lord kept many prisoners during the Wizarding World War, but it is quite curious that a few of the female prisoners were with child during their imprisonment. There are people who believe that the Dark Lord wanted to spread his seed so he impregnated some of the prisoners so that he would have an heir. There are many skeptics however since it is to be believed that the Dark Lord was looking for a way to have eternal life which would mean that he would need no heir. In fact an heir could be dangerous if he were still alive. On the other hand an heir could also be insurance so that if he was defeated, which in the end he was by Mr. Harry Potter, he would have someone to continue his legacy. There is no proof that this did occur, but like with most legends there is always a chance there is some truth to it."
Dylan kept rereading the part where it said "impregnated some of the prisoners". She thought of her mother who is a known prisoner of the Dark Lord. She thought about how she was born while her mother was imprisoned.
Dylan shook her head. This couldn't be. She couldn't be the daughter of the Dark Lord. It just didn't make sense. Her mother would have told her wouldn't she? Dylan thought about how although she had red hair, she didn't really look like either of her sisters. But wasn't the Dark Lord in Slytherin during his days at Hogwarts? Dylan wasn't entirely sure, but she feels like she heard that somewhere. Dylan quickly shut the book and put it in her bag. She began to rush back to her dorm.
Dylan kept telling herself that this was all some kind of joke and that stupid mudblood Granger was just trying to play mind games with her. She must somehow know what Dylan is doing and she wanted to trick her into thinking she was the child of the Dark Lord. That had to be it.
Dylan tried to convince herself that this was nothing more, but a mere mind game. However judging by the tears that began to run down her face when she reached her empty dorm was proof that Dylan did not believe what she was telling herself. As she cried into her pillow she knew that she had to get to the bottom of this. She couldn't tell Josh this. Even though he has helped her so far there is no way he would be able to keep this to himself.
Dylan looked in the mirror and saw her splotchy face. She took a deep shaky breath and began to clean herself up before the others got back to the dorm. She had Quidditch practice with Oliver Wood today and she had to go and act as if everything was normal. She could not let anyone know until she knows for sure.
Dylan was now more determined than ever to get to the bottom of this.
So is Dylan really the daughter of the Dark Lord or is the whole thing really just a myth? I know this chapter was really short, but it is actually pretty important later on.
In the next chapter we will check in with Derrick to see how he is doing and follow him during some of his classes on Halloween. Then after that Dylan will confront Hermione in the girl's bathroom before the Troll gets loose. Stay tuned!
